Update Xorg 7 and arch-system, this is my contribution

This works for me, this is my contribution, I hope can help someone in troubles:
pacman -Sy
pacman -Rd xorg-server xorg-clients (if installed)
pacman -Sf xorg-xdm
pacman -S xorg-clients xorg-server
pacman -Sf xorg
pacman -Syu (upgrade all system, almost 200mb)
pacman -S xorg-fonts-75dpi
pacman -S xorg-fonts-100dpi
pacman -S libxcomposite libxss
Enter in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and reconfigure the paths so:
Section "Files"
RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/CID/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/local/"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection
Write startx, if it doesn't works kdm or gdm, write:
mkdir -p /usr/X11R6/bin/
ln -s /usr/bin/X /usr/X11R6/bin/X
If doesn't works, control the errors, maybe it misses a file, install it with pacman.
Moreover, I've a ricompiled kernel with drivers nvidia, so I'm entered on my kernel source and I've written:
make all && make modules_install
generate-modprobe.conf
cp -f System.map /boot
cd arch/i386/boot
cp -f bzImage /boot
At this point I've rebooted and I've reinstalled Nvidia drivers:
./NVidia.xxxxxx.run (WITHOUT OVERWRITE FILE /etc/X11/xorg.conf)

You may have to force your iPad into recovery mode in order to restore the device since the update did not complete. This article explains how to do that.

  • I have two screens on my Apple Mac and could extend work across both. Now updated to Mavericks and cannot do this. What can be done to restore my original functionality?

I have two screens on my Apple Mac and could extend work across both. Now updated to Mavericks and this no longer works. How could I restore the previous functionality? Is somethong wrong?

    Hi Eustace.
Thanks for replying to my problem. After posting I noted the "More Like This" box on the right of the screen. The top topic was "Restore old dual screen functionality" and turned out to be the the same question with a surprising answer - in the "Mission Control" dialogue, NOT the "Displays" dialogue. There are five tick boxes at the top of the Mission Control screen and the last of them is "Displays have separate spaces" and this box was ticked through the loading of the Mavericks op. system (presumably). Unticking this box, as advised, restored the 'extended' mode and all is now well.

  • Mac OSX 10.6.7 update causes iTunes and entire system to be unresponsive?

    Hey all,
I updated to the latest OS X patch today and I've been having problems with iTunes crashing the system ever since.
iTunes would open and the entire system cease to be responsive: the mouse cursor does not respond to movements on the touchpad and the functions keys no longer do anything.
Is this a problem that anyone else is experiencing?

Sam problem here, all use of the latest iTunes freezes my whole computer, this has never happened to me with OS X before.
But I have friends who are not having this problem, so it is not affecting everybody. Could it be some other installed app that causes this?
Is there any simple way to downgrade to 10.6.6?

  • I am upgrading a old power mac g4 need update 9.1 and the system gives error message when i try to export it?

i am upgrading from 9.0.4 to 9.1.0 in the order that I am instructed when trying to get free update from the apple site i get error message..what gives with that am i supposed to just stay in os9?

9.1 is helpful for some application compatibility, but more so for running Mac OS 9 within Classic environment in Mac OS X.    Classic though is not as good as booting into 9 directly, as many drivers are not accessible to the Classic environment in X.   You can find the newer 9 updates if you follow this tip.

  • Install Adobe updates via WSUS and ignore UAC restrictions

    Hi
My company has currently set new UAC security settings but we have an issue where we are not able to update Adobe products because UAC stops it, UAC also does not prompt for elevation it just out right blocks updates.
We really need a way to either allow the updater to run/install past the UAC restrictions OR find a way to distribute adobe updates via WSUS if it's possible
    Thanks

I am not sure what you mean, I am able to install all updates from Microsoft through WSUS. I read something about being able to install an Adobe add-on or something like this to enable WSUS to download updates for Adobe and distribute them this way. This would save on network traffic and downloads, considering there are so many Adobe updates, it would be nicer to download them once and distribute. Otherwise how do big networks send out Adobe updates if they update it at all?
I am not sure where the updateshandler.log is stored as searching the entire drive did not display anything. Something that might help is that some PCs use Adobe acrobat 8 and some use acrobat 10.

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

    Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    This section in particular:
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access
To install iTunes or QuickTime software, you need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer. If you're not sure if you have administrator account access, you may find this Microsoft article helpful:
Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator?
Otherwise, refer to the Help documentation from Microsoft, contact your IT department, or visitsupport.microsoft.com for more information.
    All the best,
    Sterling

Software Update: Java for OS X 2013-002 1.0
This update, upon booting, has caused my disk space to fill up and my system freezes up. The same happens to my coworker's computer. We both watch the remaining disk space decrease and the "spinning rainbow appears" and we must restart. What do we do?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.
