Updating configuration properties

          Hi
          I have a quick question regarding updating the config properties in a resource
          adapter.
          When I deploy a resource adapter, I see that a setXXXX method in the ManagedConnectionFactory
          implementation is invoked for each config-property defined in the ra.xml (where
          XXXX is the name of the property).
          However, when I change the value of a config property in a deployed resource adapter
          using the administration console - these setXXXX methods are not being invoked,
          even if I click on the persist changes button.
          Is this possible some other way, or do I have to undeploy and or re-deploy a resource
          adapter to change its configuration properties ?
          (For what its worth, I'm using WebLogic Server 6.1, SP2 - Windows 2000 & JDK 1.3)

I think you have to restart the server (or redeploy the adapter) for changes
          to take effect, which is been fixed in 7.0 version.
          Please confirm this though.

Hi,
We are using Environment / Tools : BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 ,Sun Soloris 10,Active Directory.
To Configure the LDAP, we have done from CMC - > Authentication -> LDAP.
The below steps we have followed.
1) Please enter the LDAP hosts you are using. => Here, we have entered our AD's hostname:port (Ex: 192.168.0.8:389) (Is it correct?)
2) We have passed all the required informations for all other tabs.
3) SSL - Basic(no SSL), Authentication - Basic(no SSO)
Finally its providing the error as " Error updating LDAP properties: An internal error has occurred in the secLdap plugin."
If any one have solution or faced same problem, Kindly help us to resolve it.

There are 3 things needed to get the LDAP plugin configured.
1) Host:port
2) Base DN, usually dc=domain, dc=com
3) LDAP Administrator DN (this is not a visible attribute in AD unless you use a tool like ADSIedit or ADExplorer). You probably have to enter the Base DN instead of the username.
There are other AD specific issues when using the LDAP plugin to AD such as picking custom attributes, rules for multi domains, etc

If you are using JSP as your mechanism for content display, you should use
the contentType parameter to specify the character and coding of the JSP
page any character encoding of the resulting stream. So far, we have not
done a good job of documenting how to produce localized content in JSP. I
have filed an issue for the documentation folks to work on it. For now,
take a look at section 2.7.4 of the JSP specification version 1.1.

Laptop keeps on rebooting after windows update configuration failure due to low disk space.

Dear all,
My laptop keeps on restarting it self due to it cannot configure the windows update. I had tried all the solutions online including boot into safe mode, however none of this works as it keeps on going back to the windows configuration screen. I had no windows
installation disc, i tried system repair and system restore, both also not working.
I know where my problems is, it is that I had turn on the quota management system in my c drive. Thus, it had limited my disk space. I suspect that the configuration failure is due to not enough disk space.
I am here to ask, anywhere i can start my windows without the update configuration step, or how did i turn off my quota management system without getting into the windows. I tried safe mode, it still goes to the windows configuration screen and reboots
again.

Hi,
You can access Advanced Boot Options by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.
Then choose system restore to go back to a previous status if you have a restore point.

Using CRMXIF_ORDER_SAVE to update configurations

Dear All,
We are using the function module CRMXIF_ORDER_SAVE from the XIF interface of CRM in order to update configurations in several Order Contracts in CRM. After run we see the configuration correctly in the IPC configuration screen when displaying the contract (Transaction CRMD_ORDER). However, when using the function module crm_config_read_ow to reread the configuration, it is missing most of the characteristics. This is corrected as soon as we open and just save the configuration from the crmd_order. This leads to the conclusion that the FM CRMXIF_ORDER_SAVE produces some instability in the database (CBASE, IPC etc?). Also, it was observed, but not always that some characteristics might disappear (lost) when we use FM CRMXIF_ORDER_SAVE even though we explicitly set values during the FM call. Does anybody had a similar situation or have try to update configuration using this FM? Please Help

System update configuration issue with local repository related to machine type

Hi,
Sorry if the issue has been posted earlier, i tried searching but cudnt find relevant post. Here is my issue:
My machine is Thinkpad R52. Type as printed on label is: 1858-CLG
While adding machine type in update retriever, I added machine type as 1858 (as it doesnt accept 1858CLG). After connecting to the support site, it downloaded all required updates onto a local(shared) repository.
I installed system update, configured it to pickup update from local (network) repository in the registry.
Now when I launch system update, it determines my machine type as 1858CLG & it connects to local repository only to display message as "No updates were found for this machine type"
Though I cud see updates if I directly connect to help center.
I think the problem is with machine type identification, not sure though.
Please advice on what I'm doing wrong. Is it with update retriever configuration or system update configuration.

Solution for me was to change status of packages from "Test" to "Active" using Update Retriever.
Since this is not documented in Best Practices (but is stated in chapter 5 - modify settings) I spent several hours figuring it out..

Is it possible to update a SharePoint user properties (like email, title, etc) using CSOM API? In the User class (Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.User) i saw properties like Email, Title are possible to get and set. I tried updating these properties through code
like below, but it is not getting updated in SharePoint. Is there any alternative way?

You are not calling the update on the user object. Here is an example:
String updateUser= "john alex";
User user1 = web.EnsureUser(updateUser);
user1.Email = "[email protected]";
user1.Update();
clientContext.Load(user1);
clientContext.ExecuteQuery();

Best Practices - Update Explorer Properties of BW Objects

What are some best practices of using the process chain type "Update Explorer Properties of BW Objects"?
We have the option of updating Conversion Indexes, Hierarchy Indexes, Authorization Indexes, and RKF/CKF Indexes.
When should we run each update process?
Here are some options we're considering:
Conversion Indexes - Run this within InfoCube load process chains that contain currency conversions within explorer objects.
Hierarchy Indexes - When would this need to be run? Does this need to be run for PartProviders and/or Snapshots? Do ACRs handle this update? Should this be run within InfoCube load chains, or after ACRs?
Authorization - We plan to run this a couple times a day for all explorer objects.
RKF/CKS - Does this need to run after InfoCube loads? With PartProvider and/or Snapshot indexes? After transports have completed?

Design suggestion for application-wide configuration properties

Hello all
I am seeking opinions on how to design an application in which multiple classes have access to a common set of configuration properties that may change at runtime.
Until now, I would create an abstract class dedicated to initializing the properties set and enabling access to them from anywhere in the application through appropriate get/set static methods (most probably using an internal java.util.Properties object). Lately, my confidence in that approach seems to diminish.
So, I thought I should ask... do you see any issues with the above approach? Would you suggest any alternatives?
What I am essentially looking for here is a best practice to stick with from now on.

all over the code reflects a wise design decision vs using a singleton property manager, references to a single property manager object (maybe even a java.util.Properties object) passed around through constructors, approaches involving dependency injection (not relying on any framework though), or else.Depends on the application. For example with a distributed system propogating the changes correctly so systems are not out of sync can be problematic.
Depends on the context in which your user makes changes. If it is an admin then it has the same context has if you were using a file. In that case I would use a singleton.
If it is a user changing part of the system, then you can't use a singleton. In that case you would need a context object from which other code derives the configuration values it uses. That is a one layer hierarchy and of course more levels require more complexity via a context object for each level.

CONFIGURATION PROPERTIES VIEW ON OWB

Hi people, we want to know if there is some view or table on OWB Repository where we can see the values of the Configuration Properties dialog for each mapping.
Otherwise we have to open OWB client, expand the mappings tree and open the Dialog for each mapping.
Our OWB version is 10g R1 10.1.0.1.

I'm not sure about a view or table but there are a useful set of experts for working with configuration values. Look in the Utilities, Tips & Tricks Exchange link on the OWB OTN page and search for Expert. It is listed for 10GR2 so I'm not sure if it works on your version. It uses OMB scripting though, so you could look at that to get the configuration properties.

Thanks for your direction. That link is vary useful to be familiar with the AM configuration setting.
Frankly, during last few months I was extremely busy to develop JSP pages. And didnt study much about AM But now that we are close to move the application to production I faced unacceptable problems. Recently I started to read your/and other folks treads to get more familiar with AM.
Here is some of the problem i faced, which i think are AM related:
1-The application speed goes down as soon as more than 2-3 browser(user) work with the same application(most probably I have memory leak).
2-Some times I received following error when tried to load a JSP page in the application:
Error Message: oracle.jbo.PCollException: JBO-28020: Passivation error on collection TXN, node id -1 void
3-I faced following error when I tried to work with two applications in one or even two browsers:
Error Message: JBO 30004: An application module that was not checked out was checked in...
So, please let me know your idea on those and/or any point that I have to check.
By the way, I am still on JDev9i-Beta and I accepted all default setting at the time I created AM . but the state of each page explicitly defined at the page level(mostly stateful, but on some of the pages i didn't mentioned the state which by default is stateless).

Pre-configured properties are overwritten

I am using SunOne 6.0 SP4 and have noticed a strange problem when configuring the rules.properties and servlet.properties files.
Here's what I do.
1) Create a web server
2) Copy pre-configured properties files to the config directory
3) Apply changes
However, the properties files are overwritten with default
ones. It appears to be tied to the date the files are modified because if I modify the files before copying them over, they are not over-written.
Is this a bug/feature?

I'm a little confused by your steps. Can you be more explicit in your description?
Based on what you've said I'd recommend you do this:
1) Create your instance
2) Configure what you need to through the GUI, then Apply
3) Copy your hand-tuned files in place
4) Re-enter the Admin Server interface from the beginning
5) Follow the warning screens that indicatemanual changes have occurred.
