Updating JRE distributed with application

Hi guys,
I have an application that I distribute with the JRE. I have created an update routine, so I can update my application over the internet. This works great... but all I update is my own application.
I would like to update the JRE if this has been updated as well. This is not updated by the Java Web Start service if this is installed on the computer either.
The application consists of two applications. First a launcher application, that will check my website for available updates and also validates user permissions. What this application does is that it downloads zip file containing all the necessary jar files etc, and unpacks them into the application directory to overwrite the existing installation, and after that executes the Java executable to run the application.
The launcher application would be running on the JRE installation that I want to upgrade. How would the application react to upgrading its own JRE?!? Can it be done?
The initial install is done using a Wise Installer.
/jp

I am pretty sure that wise itself can be configured/constructed to do updates. If java is involved at all it would only be to tell wise what version is currently installed.

  • Java ME - JRE distributed with SDK 3.0

    Hi,
What I want to do is to develop a program which is based on CDC 1.1 with PBP 1.1 and AGUI optional package.
I just downloaded the new Java ME platform SDK 3.0 EA. Its specification is saying that the SDK is coming with a runtime environment for windows mobile devices. After checking the manuals corresponding to Java ME, I found out that the Java CDC Hotspot Implementation (cdc-hi) is the JVM which I have to use. Checking the folder structure in the new SDK there is a folder "runtimes", containing the subfolders "cdc-hi" and "cldc-hi". By now the problem I have is that I absolutely don't know how to install the runtime environment (which is actually distributed with the new SDK) on a mobile device. Furthermore, I'm not sure if it is only a runtime environment or emulator for CLDC configurations.
I hope you can help me out!

I don't know if this is what you are asking for, but if you want to install the runtime, you have to copy the .cab file to your Windows Mobile device, and run it there... It will install... however, I still don't know how to install or copy your own program there... when you open the program, an empty screen appears and there is no menu to intall applications....
I hope this helps you a bit...

  • Kernel update of CI with application instance

We have JP ux with SAP 5.0 , oracle , we allready performed kernel update on DEV & QA , i want to know the procedure for CI with APP instance, do i need to update both saperately ?
    regards
    Sachin Sonawane

the OS for both instance is same but the /sapmnt/SID/exe is not shared because they are showing different sizes & files,
Then i need do it separately ?
If /sapmnt/SID/exe is not shared then you have to do it separately.
Is a standard practice (included on the installation guide) that application servers share following directories with the CI,
/sapmnt/SID/exe (This is not shared/mounted on heterogenous environments)
    /sapmnt/SID/global
    /sapmnt/SID/profile
    Read the guide for reference

  • Minimum files needed from JRE to distribute Java Application

    Hello,
We have developed a Java Desktop Application (A Viewer for projects created in Microsoft Project). The core application is around 4 MB. Now we want to distribute it thru our company website. With each distribution we have to supply JRE so that the user doesnt have to install JRE in his machine manually. Problem is the size of JRE which is around 13 MB. For an application of 4 MB its getting too much for the user to download additional 13 MB of files.
I need the list of files of JRE minimum needed to distribute the application.
    thanks
    --Ahmed

You are not allowed to distribute a partial set of the JRE, you can only distribute a complete JRE. See the LICENSE file included with any JRE installation.

  • I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail.  There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software.  I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. Help!

I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail.  There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software.  I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are.

    Hi Sam,
I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.
ps. And thanks for your nice comment about me. I'm happy to help, as are other folk in the forum.

  • App update with application loader: bundle is invalid - CFBundleShortVersionString error

    Hi,
A client of mine is trying to update their app. They created a new multi-issue viewer (using ver18).
When uploading this app with application loader they receive the following error:
"This bundle is invalid. The key CFBundleShortVersionString in the info.plist file must contain a higher version than that of the previously uploaded version".
    (see screenshot)
When checking, the update app indeed had a lower version (iTunes) number than the one already on the app store. So I figured that was the issue, but when selecting a higher version and trying again the error still persists.
I couldn't really find anyone on the forum who previously had this issue.
    Tips are always welcome
    Thanks

    Hi
I have the same problem, we built the first app for our client through WoodWing, now we want to update the app with the Adobe one. During the upload of the new app, created with the Adobe Viewer Builder we get this error code:
This bundle is invalid. The key CFBundleShortVersionString in the Info.plist file must contain a higher version than that of the previously uploaded version.
When we open the Info.plist we can see that the Adobe Viewer Builder creates 1.0.1 for the Bundle Version String short, while the older WoodWing app has 2.1.
Marketing version in Viewer Builder = Bundle Version String Short or ?
That means everybody who is changing from the WoodWing to the Adobe reader needs to go through Adobe?

  • If I upgrade from 10.5.8 (Leopard) to 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) will I have to reinstall all of my applications? Along with that, will it update all of my applications?

If I upgrade from 10.5.8 (Leopard) to 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) will I have to reinstall all of my applications? Along with that, will it update all of my applications?

You can upgrade 10.6 right over 10.5 with hardly any issues.
You will not have to resintall any applications, and the only applicaitons that get updates are the bundled one's Apple includes. Not your third party ones, those require your manual updates, but likely not paid updates for the most part.
10.6 is for Intel processors, offeres video card driver improvements, some new UI tweaks and strips out the PPC processor code your not using.
Your sort of already using Snow Leopard already under Leopard, as Leopard is for both Intel and PPC processors.
Now if your thinking of updating to 10.6 to get to 10.7, then yes, your older programs from Leopard and even some from Snow Leopard will not work in Lion 10.7
So 10.6 is as far as you go.

  • Recordset - updating 2 tables with 1 recordset using application object update record

I have a recordset that uses a field from 2 different tables
with a select statement where clause that joins a userid. I can
display the field’s data just fine. Now I want to use the
Application object “update record” so I can modify
either of the fields. The problem is the Application object
“update record” only allows you to update one table.
How does Dreamweaver mx 2004 allow me to update 2 tables with one
recordset and 1 submit button? Currently using php.
    Example of where:
    Where member.userid = member_detail.userid
I tried creating the one form with the field from the first
table and that works just fine. I added the other field from the
other table into the form but ofcourse there isn’t any code
that will update the second table so it won’t work.
My application requires me to update alot of fields between 2
    tables at the same time.
Does anyone know a way using Dreamweaver mx 2004 to do this?
I don’t have much php experience.

Not even CS3 has this built in, you will either have to code
    it yourself
or buy the extension you have found. Dreamweaver gives you
    basic
features to help you develop applications, but if you want to
    do
anything really clever you have to do it yourself.
One thing to consider is maybe creating an SQL view that is
    can be
updated. I am pretty sure it exists, then you use the view
    instead of
the table in the update behaviour. I have never done it
    myself, but I am
    sure it can be done.

  • Site list update not working with TED and Zenworks for Servers

Product: Zenworks for Desktops 7Sp1 and Zenworks For Server/TED 7Sp1HP5
Subject: Site list update not working with TED and Zenworks for Servers ,
    all on Linux
Description: We have an exiting environment with 6 ZfS Servers and now we
brought up a new Server for another location. I configured all same as on
the other Server and the new one created all NAL-Apps at the new location.
But in the Application Site list on the golden App is this Application
missing. So I clicked on the Link up site list on the Distribution Screen
in C1. On ApplicationSite list the App from the new location is missing.
So I removed all and added the new from the new location and now i see all
in the application site list. When I install an app on the client on the
new location NAL is connecting alway th the same (wrong location-server
and i get an msi error 1612 or id=53272 with path=\Wrong serverpath to

I looked on the other tab on C1 at the golden app an I see the backlinks
are going to all other servers without the new one. Software installation
    on other locations are ok

    Andreas,
I forgot to mention that you can also set the loging level on the Distributor and the Subscriber to 6. to do this at the Zenworks Server Management prompt type "setconsolelevel 6" if you want to capture this to the log file ted.log then use "setfilelevel 6"
Next delete the Distribution from the Subscriber and then re-push the channel.
What we are looking for here in the log is the creation of the object and the linking information about the gold object. it should look like this (not the failure part ;-))) )
In this excerpt you will see the entry
    Golden App =
This should be were the link is to
You can check this both ways in the Golden App and in the Distributed Application.
Here is a log from me that shows this info as an example of what you should be looking for.

  • CF 9.0.1 Update - Cannot Start CF Application Server

Running a dev box with W7 x64. i7 8GB ram.  Had CF 9.0.0 (x86) running.  Able to get to /CFIDE/Administrator.cfm and add DSNs, etc, but could not access CF websites due to 403 errors.
Installed 9.0.1 x64 update and now CF Application Server service will not start.  (Error Code 2) and the Win event log posts "The ColdFusion 9 Application Server service terminated with service-specific error The system cannot find the file specified."
Checking the service properties, it is looking for: "C:\ColdFusion9\runtime\bin\jrunsvc.exe" and I verified that it was there.
Looking at the forum I saw that it may be a JRE error, so I edited my JVM config to "java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre6"  (Copied the ../jre6 folder from C:/program files/java/ in case the config file was tripping over the space in "Program Files")
Tried toggling IIS6 compatability on/off - No joy.
I've spent a couple of days chasing this (Tried to load CF9 x64 and it was a bust.)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've tried both the x64 & x86 updaters without any success.  (The labling on the update package suggested that it related to the OS vs. the Server version.)  Same error either way with both the x86 and x64 CF9 servers
I looked at the logs and didn't see much...
(Note: This is back to a straight x86 9.0.0 install, so it won't have the 9.0.1 errors.  Doh!)

  • Problem with Application server

    Hi All,
I'm facing problem with Application Server. When I installed the appserver and started it.. It started with the message " server has been started and some services will run at back". But when I tried stopping it using the stop default server i got the message that there is no server running but when i saw in the task manager i cud see two process running 1) appserver.exe and 2) imqbroker(something).exe so eventually I had to kill it.
Now when I'm trying to start the application server again its giving me this message "CLI156 Could not start the domain domain1" and below is the log file attached if its of any help

The VERY FIRST message in the server log gives you a hint as to what the problem might be. The server thinks you have spaces in your PATH to the application server. Therefore, the solution is to kill the server however you need to (task manager, whatever) and then reinstall it in a path that doesn't contain spaces. That's the low-hanging fruit here; if that doesn't work, well, then we will have to find some other solution.

  • HT3606 I´m trying to update my MacBook with OS 10.5.4, to at least 10.6.6. But I can´t get past the "configuration installation". I´v let it run overnight, but no response.

Can anybody out there tell me how to update a MacBook with OS 10.5.4, to at least OS 10.6.6 ? When trying to update from the
Apple menu, it stops when configuring to install. I´v let it run overnight several times, no go. Help me !

Start by checking if your macBook can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).

  • How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"?

How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"? Or can I or should I....??
I am a brand new Cloud member.  I heard of the Retina update.  Assuming this was where the updates would logically appear I went to the "Adobe Application Manager" app first.  Without closing the "Adobe Application Manager" I opened Photoshop and went to the help menu and selected "Updates..."; a second window opened in the already open "Adobe Application Manager".
    I selected update all.
    The result is below:
    DW CS6 12.1 Creative Cloud

Now, I closed the "Adobe Application Manager" and opened "Photoshop" again and again selected "Updates..." from the help menu.  The "Adobe Application Manager" opened again with just one window this time and the updates happened correctly.
I was hoping one of the updates would be to the "Adobe Application Manager", I don't think so.
So, If I were you I wouldn't select "Updates..." from an Adobe app unless the "Adobe Application Manager" is closed until they fix it...
Current version: Adobe® Application Manager - Version 7.0.0.128 (7.0.0.128) Note the Two windows in the "Adobe Application Manager" in the attached image.

The updates are currently available by going to Help>Updates within the Application.  Once you invoke the Updater, which is a component of the Adobe Application Manager, it will locate and apply the updates.  It looks like most of your updates have failed to install.  I would recommend you begin by trying to apply the updates that are available on our product update page at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and seeing if you face the same difficulty.
If you continue to experience problems with applying the updates then please review your installation log to determine the cause of the failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.
