Updating keywords

I have expanded my keywords over several years. There are bird images taken several years ago that lack keywords but when I bring them up now I also have the keywords from that time which are quite inadequate today. Is there a way in which I can apply my current keyword listings to older images, i.e., change the old keyword folder for my current one?

My problem is solved. When I brought up an older image thekeywords that were on my panel at the time were shown. I did not realize that they had simply been added to the bottom of my current keyword list. As a result the top portion of the panel is current, the bottom portion is the keyword list that was in place when the photo was taken and processed. If you check the panel below you will see the bottom portion of my current "avian" category (yardbirds lemont) ending just above "alligator" which is the beginning of my keyword list from 2004 when it was much different and less expansive than now. I don't know if these can be merged or not, i.e., I don't know if the gulls, for example, that I keyworded then are included in my current list or not but I will check it out later.

  • Batch Updating Keywords

    Could anyone tell me if there is an easier way to batch update a group of images to add an additional keyword? I know there is a batch update where I can select group of pictures and then update all the information at once, however, it doesn't pickup existing data from any of the pictures which means that I have to keep up with what was there before, write it on a piece of paper, then go in and re-enter all the data each time. This is taking too much time to warrant trying to keep things up to date.
    Hopefully someone can tell me an easier way.
    Thanks,
    glenn

    That is quite easy.
    Simply select all the images in the browser, make sure that 'Primary Only' is off (the button next to the 'Quick Preview' buton).
    Open the Keyword HUD, then drag the keyword you want to add from the HUD onto one of the selected images, it should then be added to all of them, multiple keywords can be dragged as well, just use Command to select more. (I'd advice to first turn on the lock in the keyword hud to prevent accidental moving of keywords)
    It should be possible to do it with the 'Batch Change' option, just make sure that you select 'Append' in the 'Add Metadata' area.

  • How to update keywords globally in Muse?

    Is there a way to update the keywords and have them apply to every page at once? If there is I haven't hit upon it.
    Thanks!

    Thanks so much for your advice. I had already entered the keywords through page properties. Should I remove those from the individual pages before implementing your directions?
    In the code you listed: <meta name="keywords" content="keyword1,keyword2,keyword3,keyword4"/>
    please don't laugh but by "keyword1, keyword 2" do you just mean that I enter my specific keywords? Was not sure if "keyword1" etc.is part of the needed code.

  • AUTO UPDATING KEYWORDS IN BRIDGE

    I have an excell file with lots of keywords, it is constantly being updated on the network by multiple people.
    At the moment i am sending emails to clea rand import the new version everytime.
    Is there a way to get it to auto update every hour for example?
    working on windows 7, CS6

    may not be possible!
    Don't know for Windows but for a Mac there is a back up application called Synchronized Pro (only for Mac) that has an option to highly customizing back ups. You can choose to synchronize (instead of Back up) specific files and folders (including archive files that are replaced by newer ones) set up a time schedule and specific disks.
    It would mean finding a Windows equivalent and a lot of thinking to set up a good strategy.
    And it might be possible using some scripting in either Bridge or the system software itself but that is beyond my knowledge

  • Update keyword list in Bridge after reinstall?

    I've had to reinstall CS3 after an OS reinstall. All my photos are intact, with the Bridge info intact. When I bring them up in Bridge I can see the keywords on the photos just fine.
    What I don't get is an updated list of keywords in the Bridge keyword panel. That defaults to the original Bridge install.
    Is there any way to get that list - the one in Bridge itself - to regenerate/update based on the keywords attached to my pictures?
    Thanks for any help.
    Ed

    I've solved the Kewords in Bridge problem, thanks to other posts and good backups.
    The file "Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml" contains the keywords that are listed inside Bridge. It's located in the Application Data folder (exact name of folder varies by version of Windows and install preferences). I dug up this file from my old install and replaced the one from my new install, and the keywords are now listed inside Bridge.
    It was only luck I still had the file; clearly it should be backed up regularly.

  • How can I update a catalog on my laptop and then transfer the updates to master catalog on desktop?

    This is similar to Goeffbubbles question but I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop
    Here is the question:
    I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
    As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR,  then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
    I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
    Where did I go wrong? I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
    Sorry if I am being overly verbose....Any suggestions?

    the part you're missing is that you have to be a little more destructive in your creation.
    here are my steps:
    In LR, put the files you want to work on in a subfolder of your Primary catalog
    Export Folder As Catalog with previews, but without including the DNG's
    At your new location/machine work on that catalog.
    Here's the part that's no fun, (obviously have a backup of your catalog before you do this)
    In your primary catalog REMOVE that folder from your catalog. (this will remove all references within your catalog, but leave the RAW files alone where they were)
    You then FILE-->IMPORT FROM ANOTHER CATALOG, and import your subfolder export back into your Primary catalog.
    It'll bring all of your changes and previews back into your Primary catalog but with unlinked RAW files.
    Click on the question mark in the corner of the thumbnail that's telling you it doesn't know where the source files are and LOCATE the original file again in your file structure, with the FIND NEARBY MISSING PHOTOS box checked.
    Overly complicated for what it is, but it gets the job done.
    I found your post because it was suggested on the sidebar after I just made a feature request on the same topic.

  • Remove quotation marks from a keyword

    Hi, need a help on this....
    I build a whole tree for my keywords and in some of them, I used more them one word in the same keyword, separated by comma.
    eg:  whale, whales
    The problem is when I do that, it creates a quotation mark and the other softwares dont understand it as 2 words and can not slipt it.
    Is there any way I can get rid of the quotation marks?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    So it looks as if it can't be done the way you want it to work.
    There is a work around but requires a little more work.
    Insert the keywords as you are doing at the present.
    Then run a script on the selected documents to sort the keywords removing the quotes.
    Here is a script that will do just this...
    #target bridge
    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    var menu = MenuElement.find ('updateKeywords');
    if (menu == null){
    updateKeywords = MenuElement.create( "command", "Update Keywords", "-at the end of tools",  "updateKeywords" );
    updateKeywords.onSelect = function () {
    if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined)  ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject("lib:AdobeXMPScript");
    var sels = app.document.selections;
    for(var a in sels){
    var xmpf = new XMPFile(sels[a].spec.fsName, XMPConst.UNKNOWN, XMPConst.OPEN_FOR_UPDATE);
    var xmp = xmpf.getXMP();
    var keys = getArrayItems(XMPConst.NS_DC,'subject').replace(/[";]/g,',');
    keys = keys.split(',');
    xmp.deleteProperty(XMPConst.NS_DC,'subject');
            for(var s in keys){
            xmp.appendArrayItem(XMPConst.NS_DC, "subject", keys[s], 0,XMPConst.PROP_IS_ARRAY);
    if (xmpf.canPutXMP(xmp)) {
            xmpf.putXMP(xmp);
             xmpf.closeFile(XMPConst.CLOSE_UPDATE_SAFELY);
    function getArrayItems(ns, prop){
    var arrItem=[];
    var items = xmp.countArrayItems(ns, prop);
       for(var i = 1;i <= items;i++){
         arrItem.push(xmp.getArrayItem(ns, prop, i));
    return arrItem.toString();
    To install..
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit
    This gets installed with Photoshop and can be found:-
    PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities
    MAC: <hard drive>/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities
    Start Bridge
    PC: Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    Mac: Adobe Bridge menu - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
    Close and restart Bridge.
    Accept the new script.
    To use:-
    Select the documents to update

  • Correct XPath to delete single keyword?

    I am trying to update keywords in XMP data using the XMP toolkit. I don't seem to be able to get the correct XPath to delete only 1 keyword in the "subject" bag. My code looks like this:
    // "Asia" does not get removed (no exceptions get thrown, either)
    theMetaXAP->remove(XAP_NS_DC, "subject/*[.=\"Asia\"]");
    I am able to successfully delete all keywords with this:
    theMetaXAP->remove(XAP_NS_DC, "subject/*"); // succeeds
    What is the correct XPath syntax to delete only one keyword? Or is this not supported?
    Dave

    Select images, Type in the Keyword you WANT to delete in the Add Keyword field at the bottom of the window (next to the keyword buttons) then - Shift-Apple + Return to Delete that word.

  • Importing keywords from external database

    I have a simple request that seems to be impossible. Back in the days before LIghtroom, I had a database that identified most of my images, cross-referenced to their filename.  Rather than manually keyword these thousands of images, I would like to import the keywords based on the data already inputted into the database. Is there any way to accomplish this?
    TIA,
    Richard

    Richard,
    I assume you're talking about photos already imported into LR.
    AFAIK there's now way to batch update keywords for photos in the catalog, as PlugIns are currently not allowed to modify keywords.
    LR/Transporter PlugIn provides a way to import metadata from a file, but not keywords. LR/Transporter suggests a partial workaround for this (see "The Keyword Conundrum" on this LR/Transporter page).

  • Selct update statement

    I want to update a column using select statment.
    The statement starts with select keyword and i have to update the value in the emp table.
    select deptno
    case deptno
    when 10 then
    update emp set sal=sal+100 when empno=empno
    else
    update emp set sal=sal+200 when empno=empno
    end)xy
    from emp
    The above statment shows error
    ERROR at line 5:
    ORA-00936: missing expression
    Pls give some examples for this.

    Your answer is correct but our requirement is we cannot start the statement with update keyword. We have to start using select keyword.Requirements are things like - Show all sales by year, Allow break out by region, etc.
    Requirements do not specify syntax, and they do not specify impossibilities, such as
    - Select data using a delete statement
    - Delete data using an insert statement
    - Truncate a table using the update statement
    - Drive a car across the Atlantic ocean
    So
    Delete is for deleting
    Insert is for inserting
    Update is for updating
    Select is for selecting
    Whether it is possible to update the values using select case statement.No

  • SINGLE FOR UPDATE

    Hi,
    can anybody tell me the user of "SINGLE FOR UPDATE" keywords in SELECT statement?
    Priya

    As given by SAP -
    ... SINGLE [FOR UPDATE]
    If SINGLE is specified, the resulting set has a single line. If the remaining additions to the SELECT command select more than one line from the database, the first line that is found is entered into the resulting set. The data objects specified after INTO may not be internal tables, and the APPENDING addition may not be used. The addition ORDER BY can also not be used.
    An exclusive <b>LOCK</b> can be set for this line using the FOR UPDATE addition when a single line is being read with SINGLE. The SELECT command is used in this case only if all primary key fields in logical expressions linked by AND are checked to make sure they are the same in the WHERE condition. Otherwise, the resulting set is empty and sy-subrc is set to 8. If the lock causes a deadlock, an exception occurs. If the FOR UPDATE addition is used, the SELECT command circumvents SAP buffering.
    LOCK - Lock protected data from being accessed by several users at the same time as a shared lock or as exclusive locks

  • Subquery in Update

    Hi,
    Can we use a subquery after the update keyword??
    For example
    UPDATE ( Select col1 from test)
    set col1='x';
    In short can we replace the table name after an update and use a select statement instead??
    Thanks in advance.

    For reference, you need to research the topic "Updatable Join View" (sometimes written as "Updateable").
    If the subquery is a simple select on a single table then Oracle will simply merge the subquery predicate with any predicate you have on the update statement; but if the subquery is a join there are various restrictions (largely to do with the uniqueness, or non-ambiguity, of the thing you want to modify) that may result in you seeing errors about lack of "key preservation" (e.g. http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2008/12/19/updatable-join-views/ )

  • Lightroom 2, Keywording and searching

    I am not sure if I am missing a step... but when I started updating keywords some older photos. I placed in Zoo Atlanta, Zoo, and Apes. I synched the keywords and tried to use the search feature. TEXT - ANY SEARCHABLE FIELD - CONTAINS ALL and then I would put in the words I just updated.
    At any rate.... no matter what I do, I cannot get the search to come up with this set of pictures.
    Please fill me in if I am missing something here.
    Also.... I did go to Metadata, selected this group of Zoo photos and clicked on Save Metadata to File. Lastly, I did optimize the database to see if that would help.

    Ian,
    Thanks... that seemed to work. I don't recall in 1.4 or earlier that you needed to select All Photographs under Catalog to search this way.. but it appears that if you are in a year or month / year.. it will only check that folder.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Keywords for my Podcast not working right in Search Podcast

    I'm wondering if any other podcasters are having problems with the "search podcast" feature not finding your updated keywords? I've changed the keywords using Smartcast in Feedburner but the new keywords never seem to get any hits for my podcast in the search mode. In fact, only a couple of them work. Yet, at Odeo and other places, the updated keywords show up. Any suggestions on what to do or what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

    Hi Scott. There is a good summary at
    http://phobos.apple.com/static/iTunesRSS.html
    All the tags are explained there. (But they do not explain that the search tag does not work - at least I've never been able to search on the keywords I put in our feed. But search does work on the other tag I mentioned. But you do not want to just load that with keywords, since that's what will display in the ITMS!)
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Basic questions on keywords

    I can add/remove keywords on each clip in the browser, as well to portions of it.
    When I move these clips or portions of them to the timeline (into a project) I can see those keywords in the timeline index and use them to select timeline clips from there.
    However: if I change, delete, add keywords to an original clip in the browser (say: add keyword "hello" to clip1) keywords in the corresponding clip in the timeline is NOT updated accordingly (clip1 in the timeline does not have the "hello" keyword). But if then I edit a new instance of clip1 from the browser to the timeline, this does have keyword "hello".
    This in my opinion is confusing and makes the potential of keywords of little use during the project editing (useful only in the 1st phase, BEFORE starting editing the timeline...): I'd like to be able to add/remove/update keywords to clips in the browser and see the corresponding clips updated, if already in the timeline. As an alternative I'd like to be able to add keywords also to clips IN the timeline...
    Am I missing something ?
    Any suggestion or workaround ?
    Thanks a lot
    Piero

    Here's a one clip project with two keywords, Kayaks and North River. The timeline index looks as expected.
    In the browser I add another Keyword, Race, and I replace 8865 with the updated version. Now I have two entries.
    If I select the superfluous entry and delete it, both entries (and the clip) are cleared.
