Updating Pantone Libraries

I have new pantone books that do not have swatches in Indesign. Where do I go to update my Pantone libraries?  (the pantone site wants me to purchase them, shouldn't this be an Indesign update?)

see Re: 336 new pantone colors among other threads.
If you bought the new books, and register them, you get the color manager for free, so that shouldn't be a big deal. You can use the free trial instead if you don't qualify for a free version.

They are not available separately, they ship with Photoshop. The latest versions get the updated libraries. You may want to consult Pantone and see if they offer this.

  • W520 External Color Calibrator stopped working with updated Pantone v1.1 software

Can someone from Lenovo help me with this issue? Lenovo updated the color calibrator software in Aug 2012. They broke an external color calibrator working. L1/2 has been completely unhelpful. I also escalated to customer service with little result except that they say it is not Lenovo software and they do not have to support it! Unacceptable, the software isprovided by Lenovo. Lenovo doc also says an external color calibrator is supported. Lenovo needs to take responsibility for fixing this. Here are the email chains. I really want a refund or someone to ensure this package that Lenovo distributes is fixed!
     Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kelli,
I do not want this case closed and disagree. This is Lenovo provided software and according to Lenovo an external calibrator is supported. I want someone to take responsibility for getting this fixed. Lenovo has provided this software and needs to work with the vendor to ensure it works. Who do I need to speak to in management? I do not appreciate the way support has just shuttled this around and nothing has gotten done.
    Sincerely,
    Christopher

    Mr Lang,
Please be advised that I have taken this case assigned to Doris. Lenovo is not able help you with this issue, We cannot provide support for a third party product.  The calibrator you are using is supported by X-Rite; any issues with the device need to be addressed by them,
I am sorry for your frustration however Lenovo has exhausted all means to help with a non-hardware issue. At this time Lenovo is closing this case.

I work in IT and when I phone that call center I really wonder sometimes whether I am even speaking with another IT person on the other end of the line. These are Thinkpad, mines is an expensive one, and I am very upset that this is the level of support I get (especially after upgrading my warranty even!). Please see what you can do. I would also like a manager to speak to DeAndrea at the call center. I am sure the calls are recorded and he was completely out of line and not helpful. Error with latest update to Pantone Color Calibrator Software (v1.1) and Eye one external calibrator   09-19-201211:39 AM - edited 09-20-201209:10 AM Hi. Can someone have a look at the Pantone 1.1 package. I am using an eye one display calibrator with the updated Pantone software and the calibration does not work. I get an error about an 8 bit image missing (have attached a screenshot). The calibration is not correct and Windows Photoviewer is pink. This was working OK with the v1.0 of the software (no longer on the w520 driver page). The error message is "There was an error loading the specified profile. Please make sure the image has an embedded profile and it is an 8-bit image." This was working fine before the update to v1.1. Thanks

    I am getting the runaround!!!
    Hi Doris,
I just left you a voice mail. One of the reasons I bought this laptop was for 3d photography. If I cannot use an external color calibrator and display then the laptop is not fit for purpose for the reasons I bought it. This software is ONLY available from Lenovo. According to Lenovo’s own doc, and the software’s doc, an external color calibrator is SUPPORTED. Lenovo needs to step to the plate and fix this. Not ME. If Lenovo needs to go to Pantone, or x-rite, then they Need to do that. Lenovo provided software that is not available to the public from x-rite or Pantone, and the software is to support Lenovo provided hardware (least so far as the internal calibrator), this software ALSO supports an external calibrator for use with an external display. The software supports both internal and external, and I would like to use my external display for 3d photography. This needs to be fixed please.
What are we going to do to resolve this? At his point of the runaround I’ve been getting I would like a complete refund.
    Thanks,
    Christopher

    Hi Kelli,
As you know the ‘software’ purchase is by virtue of purchasing the laptop with the color calibrator. Are you saying you will refund my cost for the calibrator? I don’t think you quite get how much time I have spent with support with this laptop. I have had multiple issues with the it. The calibrator, failed BT adapter, Sudden Shutdown syndrome (where the machine would just shutoff on its own –well documented in the Lenovo forums and I have at least a dozen emails on this issue) as well as many issues with the Displayport connection and an external 3d display for which I spent months working with Nvidia to resolve. This laptop has wasted a huge amount of my time. The support has been atrocious.
I would like a refund for 1. The laptop 2. The external color calibrator I cannot use because the software from Lenovo does not work (this package is NOT available from x-rite as well –It is sold to Lenovo). I have a receipt for the color calibrator and would be happy to provide that.
    Thank you,
    Christopher

  • INDD CC: How to load Pantone libraries into swatch palette?

I see the Pantone libraries in the INDD application folder -- how can I load them into the swatch palette?
    thnx

Then I can create an ASE file and load into any doc.
You might want to be careful about that, any spot colors that are in the document's Swatches panel are added as an individual ink. In CC2014 you would no longer be able to turn on overprint preview and there would be issues with exporting and outputting unless you turn on All Spots to Process in Ink Manager. The better approach would be to use the chart documents as a "palette" and drag and drop the desired color(s) from the chart into your working document.

  • Pantone+ libraries not showing

I have been trying to install the Pantone + libraries for weeks now... I am obviously doing something very stupid because I have followed the install instructions from Pantone (and the install goes fine), searched a hundred threads on the topic but still cannot see any of the Pantone + libraries in any of my Adobe apps. I am using the latest version of CS5.5. Any suggestions? I assume the libraries are standard .acb files? After the install, I can't find any that relate to the new libraries. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

In InDesign, you're not seeing them when you create a new Swatch and then press on the Color Mode pop-up menu?

  • Pantone + libraries not registering in illustrator CS5. Any suggestions?

Ive just installed the pantone colour management software which is supposed to update CS with all the new pantone palettes including the + colours amongst other things. Although installation seemingly went fine, my CS palettes are unchanged and have not been updated. Any ideas? Have contacted pantone but no joy yet. Any suggestions?

You might have to do the change manually.  Pantone has some instructions on how to do this on their site.  If I recall correctly, you have to remove the existing libraries and replace them with the new ones.  Illustrator is the only application you have to do this because there cannot be a secondary reference to a Pantone color, so they have to be switched out.

  • Using PANTONE libraries

If guidelines specify using a particular PANTONE color (without a suffix given), but all printing will actually be on an in-house CMYK printer, which library should I use?
I installed the PANTONE Color Bridge Library, but it looks as if the CMYK values are quite different than the color in the older libraries.
    In other words, PANTONE 540 C = 100C, 55M, 0Y, 55K; while PANTONE 540 PC (from the newer Color Bridge library)= 94C, 43M, 11Y 45K.
Is it necessary to determine which library they based their color upon originally? I had thought a specific PANTONE color was always the same tint, though appears different on different paper. Which values for CMYK should I consider the most "standard"?

My understanding is the color bridge library has been updated using new numbers that reflect the slight blue fluorescence you see in a lot of papers today (hence the slightly reduced C value and increased Y).
If you have an accurate profile for your printer, you might get better rendition (and this would be worth testing) either by using the actual spot color and letting the printer translate using it's own internal tables, or using ID's Ink manager to convert spots to process, and check the "Use Lab values" option.
Don't expect miracles of matching for most colors, in any case. Most spot colors don't simulate all that well.
    Peter

  • CS6 Pantone libraries are not in numerical order

In fact, they are random. For example, when creating a duotone, I click in the color area and I'm given a list of the Pantone colors in that library. If I click on the up arrow it gives me seven colors at a time. A reasonable person woud assume that the seven colors shown would be replaced with the next seven colors in numerical order. For example, if colors 250 through 256 are shown, a click on the up arrow should produce colors 257 through 263. It does not. Here is what I got on each subsequent click when starting at 2562: 7436, 517, 250, 7646, 243. These six numbers have no relationship to each other. Selecting a color in these libraries is simply random. You must keep clicking until ithe color you want just happens to show up. The numbers don't even go generally up or generally down. They are random. What is Adobe's problem? How to alphbetize or put numbers in order is a skill taught in elementary school. Is there anyway to make the colors come up in order? If so, why is random the default?
    Thanks,

  • ITunes Updates & Multiple Libraries

In Windows 7 I use iTunes V 10.7 with three iTunes Libraries. Before attempting any updates I always Backup MY MUSIC, & make sure that I have a very recent Windows System Backup. Every time I attempt an Update, I always end up with three Libraries that are totally mixed up. It does not help that I copy my Backed Up Libraries into My Music & reopen iTunes with those Library files, because they get mixed up too. I end up using 'Restore System Settings' to restore my system to the happy days of V 10.7.
Now I'm sure that there are lots of other iTunes users with multiple Libraries.
I'm hoping that one or more of them can tell how to do a 'clean' update with clean Libraries.

Thanks. I think that the first part of your response is not relevant in my case. But the second part is definitely relevant, because I get hung up at the message 'The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes'. That is the point where I give up & 'Restore System Settings' to put me back to V 10.7. Yes - technically I'm doing a 'downgrade'.
Now, when I was in V 12, after resetting my displays - Playlists etc. on the Left side, & Music showing in a Song list the way I like, I didn't see any benefit of V 12 over V 10.7. Moreover, in V 12 the 'iTunes Store' doesn't work - it just closes the iTunes program!
So I'm not in a big hurry to try reinstalling V 12.
But I'm up to the academic challenge, so at the end of the week - which will be the New Year - I might try a more thorough job of Backing Up my three Libraries, & downloading/installing V 12 & see if anything has changed. Of course, I will do a Windows System Image Backup first, so that if I end up ****** off, I can do 'Restore System Settings' & thereafter live forever happy with V 10.7.
Remember that in the software world "New does not mean better". Very, very true.

  • New PC: How to update my libraries FROM my IPod?

I have been using ITunes and Ipod for some time. Now I bought a new Laptop, uploaded the latest ITunes and connected my IPod. I hoped it would be able to sync the libraries exactly from my IPod. However, it only uploads the songs that I bought thru the store. But the songs downloaded from CD cannot be uploaded and sync-ed. So, I have my IPod on one side with all the songs and playlists, and a new ITunes on the other, only with the songs that were once bought online. How can I get my ITunes library up-to-date with my IPod?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
