Updating table rows in Application Module class

How can I update table rows in Application Module class?
I'm using JDev 10.1.3 ADF BC, not JSF!
Thanks.

There are plenty of examples of doing this in the new ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers on the ADF Learning Center. No need to use raw JDBC.

  • Freeze JDeveloper10.1.3: Changing client interface on application module

    Hello,
    I could freeze JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4.3673 build JDEVADF_10.1.3_NT_060125.0900.3673 3 times in a row with the following procedure:
    1) You need HR schema from oracle examples
    2) Create a new application workspace without any template (any name works)
    3) Create the empty project (any works as well)
    4) Set the project's technology scope to
    4.1) ADF Business Component
    4.2) Web Service
    4.3) XML
    4.4) Java will be added automatically
    5) Generate business components from table
    5.1) Generate component from table Employees only
    5.2) Generate an updatable view for the component
    5.3) Don't generate any read-only view object
    5.4) Generate an app module
    6) Add two methods to the application module class, here's are methods I'm using
    public Element getCurrentEmployee()
    ViewObject employeeView = getEmployeeView1();
    Row current = employeeView.getCurrentRow();
    if(current == null) {
    current = employeeView.next();
    Node employeeXml = current.writeXML(0, XMLInterface.XML_OPT_ALL_ROWS);
    return (Element)employeeXml;
    public void saveCurrentEmployee(Element xmlElement)
    getEmployeeView1().readXML(xmlElement, 0);
    getTransaction().commit();
    7) Go to the application module properties and add the first method (getCurrentEmployee in my example) to the client interface
    8) Click ok to confirm the change, some files will be generated
    9) Reopen the application module properties, go to remote section and add a J2EE Web Service support
    10) Click Ok, some files will be generated
    11) Go to the web service properties in the state section and make the service stateful on session scope
    12) Click Ok, some files are modified and a .deploy file is created
    13) Save All
    14) Go to application module properties and add the second method to the client interface
    15) Click Ok, JDeveloper will freeze.
    Anyone else can reproduce that or is it a strange bug from my environment?
    Regards,
    Simon Lessard

    Simon,
    I'm having a very similar problem except mine freezes at step 13. I click save all and jdeveloper freezes. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

  • Application Module's "query-on-commit"  flag

    Hi All,
    Can you please guide how to set Application Module's "query-on-commit" flag as on/off.

    You'll want to create a method in your application module class that will expose your reporting functionality. You can do this by:
    1. Selecting your AppModule.
    2. Opening AppModuleImpl.java
    3. Creating a method to expose the necessary reporting services.
    4. You'll then need to make this method accessible by opening AppModule editor and clicking on "Client Interface". Shuttle your method to the "Selected" side.
    In the method you create in AppModule.java, pass the module (this) into your report class. You can then perform any actions you with such as querying VO's, updating, etc.
    Finally, for your view/controller layer you'll want to call the newly added methods in your AppModule class instead of calling your reporting classes directly. This will make your code cleaner and easier to maintain as well and also control (encapulate) the reporting services you want to expose to others.
    Hope that helps.

  • Application module creation for (web) services

    Hello,
    We are running into stack overflows from ADF BC (BC4J) with oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.createRootApplicationModule. We want to make sure we're doing this right.
    If you have data bound services (e.g. product lookup) and you don't want to put your operation/exposed method in the application module Impl class for clear seperation (unlike ADF toy store sample), is it appropriate to:
    1. Create a Java service class that you will expose as J2EE web service
    2. The method to be exposed will call Configuration.createRootApplicationModule to checkout an app module from pool.
    3. Find the view object, run the query, get the row.
    4. Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule to check it back in.
    Please share your best practices and recommended approach with us.
    Thanks,
    - Zak

    I'd recommend using our built-in feature for exposing an application module class as a J2EE web service. This will code-generate a class for you that does the AM access correctly.

  • Accessing application module instances directly from the AMPool

    Hi!
    I´m want to create an Application Module Pool Monitor, actually I need to know how many fetched rows an Application Module instance has.
    I made a jsp, that do the following:
    ApplicationPool pool = (ApplicationPool)poolMgr.getResourcePool(poolname);
    int instanceCount = pool.getInstanceCount();
    for (int i = 0; i < instanceCount; i++){
    ApplicationModule am = pool.getInstance(i);
    and then works with the am instances, calculating the rows that each VO has fetched.
    Now, It is not yet clear to me if, when I use "pool.getInstance(i)",
    I'm locking the instance that is being use by another session (an user session), or trying to get a lock,
    and possibly creating a deadlock. Or the AMPool administrates the lock and I don´t need to worry about it.
    Thank in advance, and sorry for my bad english!
    (i forgot to mention, I´m using adf - bc 10.1.2 )

    Sure, we are having RAM problems, sometimes, and for reasons that are still unclear, a process begins to consume memory.
    What we need rigth now, is a tool that tell us how many rows in memory has each user, and which ViewObject is creating them. The idea is to make some kind of monitor that shows that, the AM that each user has, an the state of their VOs.
    I used the JSP in this page as a reference:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/05/10/gettingApplicationModulePoolStatisticsToAidWithSizeTuning.html
    I´m not trying to create a new AM management mechanism, simply a tool that shows the status of the application (and perhaps allows me, for instance, to clear the cache of a VO that has to many rows fetched).
    In my JSP I obtain an instance of the AMs using "pool.getInstance(i)", and access then the associated VOs. But I don´t know if accesing the AMs this way could create problems with users that have an AM assigned to them, for example, a deadlock.
    Thanks!

  • Execute application module method automatically from uix page

    Hi,
    We are developping an application using Jheadstart 10.1.2.2 (build 32) with UIX pages as a view.
    We have build a custom method on our application module class that creates and saves in a directory a chart in function of a parameter we pass to this method.
    We would like to execute this method every time we acces a form page since this pages has to show the chart that our method creates. We would like to know if it is possible to execute this method automatically every time we acces this form page without having to press a button each time.
    Thanks in advanced.
    Xavier

    Xavier,
    I am not sure UIX works as JSPX and JHS 10.1.2 as 10.1.3, but that is what I would do if I wanted to execute a method on page load:
    1. Create a new managed bean(MyBean) in your faces-config which implements oracle.adf.controller.v2.PagePhaseListener interface
    2. Go to the pagedef file of your page, right click it in structure pane and set the controller class to 'MyBean'
    3. in MyBean and in beforePhase() method access App Module and call your function [see 4]. I quote this from ADF Dev.Guide 10.1.3 for how you can get App Module and call your function on it:
    // 1. Access the FacesContext
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    // 2. Create value binding for the #{data} EL expression
    ValueBinding vb = fc.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{data}");
    // 3. Evaluate the value binding, casting the result to BindingContext
    BindingContext bc = (BindingContext)vb.getValue(fc);
    // 4. Find the data control by name from the binding context
    DCDataControl dc = bc.findDataControl("SRServiceDataControl");
    // 5. Access the application module data provider
    ApplicationModule am = (ApplicationModule)dc.getDataProvider();
    // 6. Cast the ApplicationModule to its client interface
    SRService service = (SRService)am;
    // 7. Call a method on the client interface
    service.doSomethingInteresting();
    4. Check the phase and call your function in beforePhase method of your MyBean (implementing PagePhaseListener)
    public void beforePhase(PagePhaseEvent event) {
    FacesPageLifecycleContext ctx =(FacesPageLifecycleContext)event.getLifecycleContext();
    if (event.getPhaseId() == MY_DESIRED_PHASE) service.doSomethingInteresting();
    Probably, there is a shortcut to all these, or an alternative approach, which I myself will be happy to know about.

  • Calling stored procedures from entity object and application module

    Hello
    I've put in place an EntiyImpl base class containg helper methods to call stored procedures.
    I now need to call stored procedures from the application module.
    Apart from creating an application module base class and duplicating the helper method code is there a way
    to share the helper methods for calling stored procedures between the entity impl and application module impl ?
    Regards
    Paul

    Does the helper code depend on features of a particular entity object instance, beyond its database transaction?
    If so, I'm not sure I see how it could be used from an application module class.
    If not, here's what you do:
    Step 1:
    Parametrize the database transaction--you might even want to. So instead of
    protected myHelperMethod(Object someParam) {
    DBTransaction trans = getDBTransaction();
    change this to
    protected myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    Step 2: make the method public and static--once you parameterize the DBTransaction, you should be able to do this.
    public static myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    Step 3: Remove the method from your EntityImpl base class into a utility class:
    public abstract class PlSqlUtils {
    private PlSqlUtils() {}
    public static myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    When you want to call the method from an application module, entity object, or even view object class, call
    PlSqlUtils.myHelperMethod(getDBTransaction(), paramValue);
    Unlike Transaction.executeCommand(), this lets you provide functionality like setting procedure parameter values, retrieving OUT parameter values, etc.
    Hope this helps,
    Avrom

  • Application modules in jsp uix jdeveloper9i

    I have an application module with customer table as the top driving table to get customer information. I have a seperate application module that has phone table as the top driving table in a master detail to my customer. I now want to take the customer number from the customer table based off the phone search and pass it to my other application module, so that I can edit that customer. I can not find a way to pass customer number from the same customer table in one application module to another application module. I have to keep these seperate so I can search by phone number or customer number. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried nested modules, and passing values between jsp pages but get error with rowkey.

  • How do I call an Application Module method from a EntityImpl class?

    Guys and Gals,
    Using Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.3.0.
    I've got a price update form, that when submitted, takes the part numbers and prices in the form and updates the corresponding Parts' price in the Parts table. Anytime this Parts view object's ReplacementPrice attribute is changed, an application module method needs to be called which updates a whole slew of related view objects. I know you can modify view objects via associations (How do I call an Application Module method from a ViewObjectImpl class? but that's not what I'm trying to do. These AppModuleImpl methods are the hub for all price updates, as many different operations may affect related pricing (base price lists, price buckets, etc) and hence, call the updatePartPricing(key) method.
    For some reason, the below code does not call / run / activate the application module's method. The AppModuleDataControl exists and recordPartHistory(key) is registered and public. At runtime, the am.<method> code is simply ignored, and as a weird side-effect, I cannot navigate out of my current page flow.
      public void setReplacementPrice(Number value)
        setAttributeInternal(REPLACEMENTPRICE, value);
        AppModuleImpl am = (AppModuleImpl)this.getDBTransaction().findApplicationModule("AppModuleDataControl");
        Key key = new Key(new Object[]
            { getPartNumber() });
        am.recordPartHistory(key);  // AppModuleImpl method which records pricing history
        am.updatePartPricing(key); // AppModuleImpl method which updates a whole slew of related pricing tables
      }Any ideas?

    Thanks Timo.
    Turns out the code provided was correct, but the AppModuleImpl method being called was not. A dependent ViewObject wasn't returning the row I was expecting. I then tried to perform some operations on that row, which in turn ... just stopped everything, but didn't give me an error.
    It was the lack of the error that threw me off. I had never messed with calling an AppModuleImpl method from the EntityImpl so I assumed that's what was messing up.
    You are correct. It is available from the ViewRow, but I thought it better to put it in the EntityImpl. This method will be called every time the replacement cost is modified. If I didn't put it in the EntityImpl, I'd have to remember to call it every time a replacement cost changed.

  • Simple mysql table row update

    Hi all,
    I am new to flex. Literally days into this. I have followed an example from the flex 3 bible and created a Flex applciation calling an AMFPHP service. I got the hello world to appear and was pretty chuffed with that. (code used is below)
    I have been asked to use some php code that I used to successfully add a row to my database. Apparently this is easy but I'm not getting it.
    All I want to do in this instance is add one row of data to my table. I guess I would just insert my php code in as a statement somewhere right?
    The table is on a server
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
        <mx:RemoteObject id="phpService"
        destination="amfphp"
        source="MyClass. HelloWorld"/>
        <mx:Button label="Say Hello" click="phpService.sayHello()"/>
        <mx:Label text="{phpService.sayHello.lastResult}"/>
    </mx:Application>
    Below: Is this the right bit of code that would update?
    var sql:String =
        "INSERT INTO mytable (Row1, Row2, Row3 , Row4, Row5, Row6, Row7, Row8, Row9 , Row10) " +
        "VALUES ('Data1', 'Data2',  'Data3', 'Data4', 'Data5', 'Data6', 'Data7', 'Data8', 'Data9', 'Data10')";
    insertStmt.text  = sql;
    I really am confused by all this.
    Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi,
    here is a bit of code that may help you, when using amfphp you would have the php class that updates the record, to call that class from flex you would declare it as a remote object. You then send that object with the data to the server where the sql updates the table. The code below is for inserting a record updating a record requires a slightly different sql statement but the principle is pretty much the same.
    If you are using flashbuilder you can use zendamf and the data wizard will create your actionscriptcode and your php services code.
    David
         Actionscript code to update a record through amfphp
    <mx:RemoteObject id="catalog" fault="onFault(event)" showBusyCursor="true" source="qiksales" destination="amfphp">
            <mx:method name="newCategory" result="isEntered(event)" />
    </mx:RemoteObject>
         private function AddCategory(e:MouseEvent): void
    catalog.newCategory(100,'specials');
         Php function
    function newCategory($group, $category) {
         $mysql = mysql_connect(localhost,"root","");
         mysql_select_db( "catalog" );
         $Query = "INSERT INTO categorys (groupID, name) VALUES ('$group', '$category')";
         $Result = mysql_query( $Query );
         return($Result);

    A standard disclaimer, the mutating trigger error is telling you that you really, really, really don't want to be doing this. It generally indicates a major data model problem when you find yourself in a situation where the data in one row of a table depends on the data in another row of that same table. In the vast majority of cases, you're far better off fixing the data model than in working around the problem.
    If you are absolutely sure that you cannot fix the data model and must work around the problem, you'll need
    - A package with a collection (or global temporary table) to store the keys that are modified
    - A before statement trigger that initializes the collection
    - A row-level trigger that adds the keys that were updated to the collection
    - An after statement trigger that iterates over the data in the collection and updates whatever rows need to be updated.
    If you're on 11g, this can be simplified somewhat by using a compound trigger with separate before statement, row-level, and after statement sections.
    Obviously, though, this is a substantial increase in complexity over the single trigger you have here. That's one of the reasons that it's generally a bad idea to work around mutating table exceptions.

    All i want is that when users click on SUBMIT button values of point column in s_lessons(database table) be updated by new entries from user.
    i did my best and result with that code is :
    You  have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to  your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' lid=888,  sid=860935422, term=902' at line 1
    I would appreciate any idea.
    with prior thanks

    Go to the Row Properties, and in the Visibility tab, you have "Show or hide based on an expression". You can use this to write an expression that resolves to true if the row should be hidden, false otherwise.
    Additionally, in the Matrix properties you should take a look at the filters section, perhaps you can achieve what you wish to achieve through there by removing the unnecessary rows instead of just hiding them.
    It's only so much I can help you with the limited information. If you require further help, please provide us with more information such as what data are you displaying, what's the criteria to hiding rows, etc...

  • Table QBE-Filter BUG in combination with Application Module Pooling ?

    Hi,
    i use JDEVADF_11.1.1.1.0_GENERIC_090615.0017.5407, Java 1.6.0_14, ADF BC and ADF Faces.
    I have one View Object, one Page with a panelCollection and a table with option filtering (create via drag-and-drop from datacontrol).
    When I disable the application module pooling on the AM configuration and run the application, i can execute the query-by-example filter, but when I delete the filterCriteria and press enter (requerry for select all) the table shows the old data.
    Image for setting on application module:
    http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/1374/filterdoesnotwork1.png
    Image for execute querry and requerry for "all rows" (deleted filterCriteria)
    http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/1963/filterdoesnotwork2.png
    When I enable application module pooling all works fine. Is this a issue?
    kind regards

    Hi Frank,
    if I filter for employees which firstname starts with "D" and then for employees with "F" --> i see "No data to display.".
    So uncheck "Enable Application Module Pooling" on application module doesn't work with QBE-Filter ?
    I can send a testcase but it is so simple you can create it with jdeveloper in 2 minutes ;)

  • Finding Application Module name in read-only view object classes

    Hi all,
    I have a fairly basic question about finding application module name when we are coding in ViewObject java classes.
    I want to know how can I obtain <<application module>> NAME that our current view object is contained in it at run-time. I think there should be a way to find current application module NAME, when we are in ViewObject classes including View Object, View Row or view object definition classes (I've overridden all mentioned classes).
    I should notify that since our view object is read-only I may not count on view object's entity classes, coz as you know a read-only view object don't have any entity in it!
    So, if you have any idea about finding current application module name in view object java classes please let me know.
    Appreciate for your replies,
    Nasser

    Thanks guy, it was helpful:)
    Now i can access application module name through viewObject classes.
    But another question is raised...sorry if i m boring:( I promise its the final question ;)
    Is there a way to get application module name in an extended version of JboException class?
    Thanks again for your reply:)

  • Quikly table row update and freeze ui

    Hello forum,
    I'm trying update tableview by observablelist with 500 ms frequency. Using this interval the UI freeze.
    Can u help me pls?

    Sorry for late...
    this is the code I'm using:
    public class AlarmTableFactory {
        private final TableView<Alarm> table;
        class DataTableCell<T> extends TableCell<Alarm, T> {
            @Override
            protected void updateItem(T t, boolean empty) {
                super.updateItem(t, empty);
                if (!empty && getTableRow() != null) {
                    int row = this.getTableRow().getIndex();
                    Alarm alarm = getTableView().getItems().get(row);
                    setStyle(alarm.getlevel().getColor());
                    setTextFill(alarm.getlevel().getTextFillColor());
                    setText(String.valueOf(t));
        public AlarmTableFactory() {
            table = new TableView<Alarm>();
        public TableView<Alarm> createTable() {
            final Field[] fields = Alarm.class.getDeclaredFields();
            for (int i = 0; i < fields.length; i++) {
                final int count = i;
                final TableColumn<Alarm, String> col = new TableColumn(fields.getName().toUpperCase());
    col.setCellValueFactory(new Callback<TableColumn.CellDataFeatures<Alarm, String>, ObservableValue<String>>() {
    private ReadOnlyObjectWrapper ro;
    @Override
    public ObservableValue<String> call(TableColumn.CellDataFeatures<Alarm, String> cellDataFeature) {
    try {
    Alarm alarm = cellDataFeature.getValue();
    Method method = alarm.getClass().getMethod("get" + fields[count].getName(), null);
    try {
    ro = new ReadOnlyObjectWrapper((String) method.invoke(alarm, new Object[0]));
    } catch (ClassCastException ex) {
    // col.setVisible(false);
    catch (IllegalAccessException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(AlarmTableFactory.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    } catch (IllegalArgumentException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(AlarmTableFactory.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    } catch (InvocationTargetException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(AlarmTableFactory.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    } catch (NoSuchMethodException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(AlarmTableFactory.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    } catch (SecurityException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(AlarmTableFactory.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    return ro;
    col.setCellFactory(new Callback<TableColumn<Alarm, String>, TableCell<Alarm, String>>() {
    @Override
    public TableCell<Alarm, String> call(TableColumn<Alarm, String> arg0) {
    return new DataTableCell();
    table.getColumns().add(col);
    table.setCache(false);
    return table;
    And this other code for update table with listenerpublic class AlarmTableController implements MapMarkerAlarmListener {
    private final TableView<Alarm> table;
    public AlarmTableController(TableView<Alarm> table) {
    this.table = table;
    @Override
    public void mapMarkerAlarmed(ALARM_LEVEL alarmLevel, MapMarker marker) {
    final ObservableList<Alarm> row = FXCollections.observableArrayList();
    Alarm alarm = new Alarm("", "---", "", "");
    row.addAll(alarm);
    table.getItems().addAll(row);
    alarm = null;
    Thanks in advanced,
