Updating UI from outside SwingWorker-doInBackground() method

Question

Good day!
I've a problem using SwingWorker class. I need to update user interface but not directly from doInBackground() method (a method is called from doInBackground() and this method should be able to update my UI). However, the only method offered by SwingWorker to update UI is publish() and it can't be used outside doInBackground(). Is there a way to solve my problem by using only SwingWorker methods or need I resort to invokeLater()/invokeAndWait() methods?
I'd appreciate any help.
