• Window server communication errors

I'm working in a rander farm environment where our xserves use Shake to generate quicktimes. I've recently started testing OS X 10.4 and now get these window server communication errors.
We're using Shake v4.00.0607 using the exec option which is meant to have Shake run in render only / batch mode and shouldn't need to use the GUI at all so why we even get this error at all doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If I log into the xserve via VNC or Remote Desktop to run the job it works fine (as I have access to the GUI) and the Shake icon does appear in the dock though no other part of the Shake GUI appears on screen ...
The Error:
Window Server communications from outside of session allowed for root and console user only
INIT_Processeses(), could not establish the default connection to the WindowServer.Abort
Any ideas on how to solve the issue?

This isn't really the right forum to ask your question. That is why there was a note saying "If your question concerns a hardware or software technical issue, please do not post in this forum...". Next time please search for a more appropriate forum. However, I happen to know the answer off the top of my head, so:
is window server installed on intel core duo[?]
No part of Windows is installed on the any Apple machine (at this time). You can purchase it separately and install it yourself.
[is] mac os x server installed on intel core duo[?]
No. Mac OS X Server is not pre-installed on any intel machine at this time. From the requirements web page it looks like it will only run on Gx machines, but yu should do more research before you believe that.

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.

• I have a time capsule connected directly to fiber connection. I have connected a windows server directly to TC and configured it for remote desktop connection. From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home. What config I need on TC?

I have a time capsule directly connected to fibre optic point out. All pcs and macs are connected wirelessly to the internet. I have connected a windows server pc to TC. When configured for Remote desktop connection, I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet. I guess I need to change some settings in TC to get some ip adress for the remote desktop connection from my home. Anyone who can help me out? Appreciate it.
Narmin

I am a little lost now.. I have read again your title and your first post.. and they seem inconsistent.
In the title you state.
From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home.
Interanet is not a word I know.. I assumed intranet...are you talking about internet or intranet? And just to be clear say WAN or LAN.. !! Is your home part of the interanet??
In the first post you state,
I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet.
Now this is more normal.. the issue is not in the home at all, it is accessible from there but fails from internet. If this is correct, then you can do a few obvious things to determine where the problem is.
But first I need to know are you actually testing from a different internet connection to your home lan.. you are not just trying the public IP from inside the LAN as that will fail due to the TC not doing NAT Loopback.
I am also assuming the TC is the only router in the network, and has the public IP on the WAN interface.
And I am also assuming you have turned on the ping responder and you can actually ping your public ip from the internet and get a response. This helps no end in figuring out where there are issues. Strange but I have no idea if there is a ping responder in the TC WAN so you might need to forward that as well. Also if you have a dynamic public ip address are you using dyndns or no-ip or some other service to connect.
1. Test bypassing the TC.. plug the internet connection straight into the windows server,, and test if you have access. If yes, the TC is the problem.. if not, your setup on the windows server is wrong.. look at firewall in particular.
2. Assuming from test 1 the TC is the problem, Post the screen shots of the port forwarding setup for us to look at.. that is by far the easiest way to check it out.
There are lots of references to port forwarding in the TC.. eg
http://must-know-mac.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-to-port-forward-time-capsule.html
The things that generally go wrong are firewall on the computer that is accepting the port.
The ISP doesn't allow connections on a particular port. (not likely in your case)
The router is behind another router.. double NAT will kill any port forward.
Upnp has already allocated a port.. not an issue as TC doesn't use upnp although a reboot of everything after you set port forwards is well worth it.. amazing how things don't stick properly without a reboot.
IP on the receiving device is not static and so changes.
Not enough or right type of ports are opened. This is always messier than it looks as one port is often not enough for two way communications.

• How to make IIS on Windows 7 visible from outside my home LAN

Guidance Needed: How to make IIS on Windows 7 visible from outside my home LAN.
I am building a learning/demo ASP.NET website on this Win7 PC, using VS2008.
I would like to share the website with a client/friend, so I need my local IIS to be visible from outside the home LAN.
This PC is behind a Netgear WGR614 router, which has a static IP address assigned by my ISP.
I have set up port forwarding on the router; port 80 is HTTP.
I can see the website as http://localhost/ and also as http://192.168.0.2 from other PCs inside the LAN.
Ping works from outside, but not http.   What am I missing?

Hi,
Since this question is related to IIS and we have specific support for IIS related issues or questions, it is also recommended that you go to IIS Forum for help.

• Access windows server 2003 from a local user machine (windows 7 pro)?

Is there a way to look up user accounts from a local machine running windows 7 pro without having to always go to the physical server itself?
The reason is the location of the server, a bit of an inconvenience.
It's a windows server 2003 btw.

• Accessing a server via the Server app from outside a router firewall

So I'm trying to access my server using the Server app on a MacBook Pro outside my server network.  I can access it just fine when my client is inside the server network, but I cannot connect when outside the server network.
I've done the following troubleshooting:
- I've turned off the server Firewall option available in the server's Server Admin tool
- I've set up port forwarding on my router
- I've opened up port 311 on the router
- I've placed the server outside the router DMZ zone and the Server app connects just fine
- I've checked the box "Allow remote administration using Server" in the server's Server app Settings tab
- With the router configured correctly, the Server app cannot access the server
There's something in the router that is blocking access by the Server app.  Apple Enterprise support says they are sure there is no other port to open up.  Is there something else I should be doing to access the server from outside the router using a client Server app?
TIA
ps - this worked fine when I just had the server hanging directly off a cable modem.

I and I suspect a lot of other admins would argue you should not be making your server accessible via Server.app remotely due to security concerns. Saying that, I and again I suspect a lot of other admins also want/need to be able to remotely administer servers. There is a better way however to achieve this.
You should be running a VPN server, perhaps using your same Mac server. You should leave the firewall blocking access directly for Server.app but if your remote Mac first connects via the VPN it will then be connected securely to your internal network and then be able to use Server.app

• Unable to configure BMR protection on Windows Server 2008 from DPM 2012 r2 server

We are trying to implement BMR and System State protection on our physical servers and have had issues when trying to set it up for a server running windows server 2008. I have verified that the DPM agent is up to date running version 4.2.1273.0. When
configuring the protection group and expanding system protection the only option is system state. When configuring protection on other physical servers running Windows Server 2012 I am able to select bare metal recovery. Has anyone else had this issue and
know how we can resolve this? Thank you for anyone who takes the time to lend a helping hand.

Hi,

Xandris is right.  I had the exact same situation (received a MacBook Air from Santa last Christmas to complement my 27 inch iMac).  I have MS Office for Mac installed on my iMac.  I just downloaded the trial onto the MBA from the MS website, opened the program, plugged in my "key" number and was up and running in minutes.

• Is it possible to connect to LYNC Server 2013 from outside without public certificate

Hello to everybody
I have a rather simple question but i cannot find a definite answer
I have installed Lync server for purely testing purposes on my work lab
I have internal communication ...even web based but i don't know how to get external communication
I have a domain with FQDN : domain.abc.com    .... please
take note that the FQDN is 3 part...my computer are registered under computer.domain.abc.com.....and my domain is presented as
abc
My lync server is lsvr.domain.abc.com
We also have DNS records to external.abc.gr pointing to my static IP
Is it possible to create a self signed certificate that will enable us to perform external communications...especially with the Lync Web app or i should
definitely get a public certificate.
The whole issue is that we wish to make a presentation to the company's owner in order to get the approval to buy Lync and the required infrastructure or will use some other way of communication like Skype
It seems i cannot get a definite answers if i can do it without paying the money for the certificate or we should bite the bullet and pay the certificate

Well i had a mistake in network configuration but now i have different issue and i can't find how to begin with this
Let me take it from the beginning ...
I am user :Tsuser
I connect internally to my Lync Server :lsvr.domain.abc.com
with internal IP 192.168.1.200
I use
the meet url : https://meet.domain.abc.com/Tsuser/randomnumbersletters
I connect
ok
I change
the meet url to : https://Internal IP of lsvr(192.168.1.200)/Tsuser/randomnumbersletters
i get 404  File or directory not found.
I change
the meet url to : https://lsvr.domain.abc.com/Tsuser/randomnumbersletters
i get 404  File or directory not found.
I port forward my public ip to lsvr.domain.abc.com
port 4443 the same 404
Something is wrong here but i can't figure it out
Can anyone give me a helping hand...i think this is the main obstacle

• Do I have to use port forwarding in router to log my essential server 2012 from outside

hi,
1--do I have to use port forwarding if I have only essential server 2012 in my home?
2- what is exactly the benefit of port forwarding,  besides the converting static IP adres to internal IP adres for clients?
thanks
johan
h.david

Yes.
It allows certain ports to be accessed externally through your firewall, whilst blocking other ports.
You need to allow access to TCP Port 80 and 443 for Essentials Server.
