Updating XML data

I have the following code in place to move a variable from my
Flash app to an XML file for storage . . .
//replace the GoodVN value in the XML file with the latest
valid voucher number
var VoucherNumbers:XML = new
XML("<VoucherNumbers><GoodVoucher>VoucherNo</GoodVoucher>
</VoucherNumbers>");
VoucherNumbers.contentType = "text/xml";
VoucherNumbers.send("VoucherNumbers.xml");
But this is not working. I cannot use LoadVars as it is meant
for use with a .txt file. I have tried other variations on this
code but with little success.
My XML file has the following layout . . .
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <VoucherNumbers>
<GoodVoucher>20060820151601</GoodVoucher>
- <CancelVoucher>
<CancelledVoucher>20060820091501</CancelledVoucher>
<CancelledVoucher>20060820102201</CancelledVoucher>
<CancelledVoucher>20060820105401</CancelledVoucher>
<CancelledVoucher>20060820114201</CancelledVoucher>
</CancelVoucher>
</VoucherNumbers>
So . . . how do I go about getting my VoucherNo variable from
Flash to replace the value in the GoodVoucher field in my XML file?

Flash is read only. You need some sort of serverside script
to write data to
a file. php, cfm, asp, cgi or perl.
There is a sample here that uses php to update an xml file
that displays a

    Hi,
    You should have created your own thread for this, and included database version.
    This works for me on 11.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.5 :
    SQL> create table t_org ( xml_clob clob );
    Table created
    SQL>
    SQL> insert into t_org
      2  values(
      3  '<Message>
      4  <Entity>
      5  <ASSIGNMENT>
      6  <OAVendorLocation> </OAVendorLocation>
      7  <Vendorid>1</Vendorid>
      8  </ASSIGNMENT>
      9  </Entity>
    10  </Message>'
    11  );
    1 row inserted
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete
    SQL> select '*' ||
      2         extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
      3         || '*' as result
      4  from t_org;
    RESULT
    SQL> update t_org set xml_clob =
      2  updatexml(xmltype(xml_clob),
      3  '/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation/text()','LONDON').getClobVal()
      4  ;
    1 row updated
    SQL> select '*' ||
      2         extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
      3         || '*' as result
      4  from t_org;
    RESULT
    *LONDON*
    Does the OAVendorLocation really have a whitespace value?
    If not then it's expected behaviour, you're trying to update a text() node that doesn't exist. In this case, the solution is to use appendChildXML to create the text() node, or update the whole element.
    Is it your real document? Do you actually have some namespaces?

  • SQL Functions to Update XML Data

    Hi,
    Can anybody please tell me whether SQL Functions to Update XML Data (such as updateXML, insertChildXML, insertXMLbefore etc) are available with oracle 9i or not?
    Please tell me.

    You can also do a describe on SYS.XMLTYPE to see what methods are supported in your release. How would you find e.g. insertChildXML in DESC sys.xmltype? I suppose it is not a Method of the Type: Summary of XMLType Subprograms.

  • Update XML Data

    Does any one know how or if you can update or insert new data
    into an xml file from Flash AS3?
    An example would be someone filling out and submitting a form
    and then the information entered is sent to the xml file to create
    or update nodes in the xml file.
    Thanks in advance.

    You can't do that from the flash player directly.
    You can do it via a server side script, e.g. using a php
    script that processes the request from flash, but often data in
    this type of scenario would be stored in a database instead of an
    xml file (however using php for updating an xml file is entirely
    possible too)

  • How to automatically update xml data for xml connector

    I suspect the answer to this is simple because I am a real novice when it comes to ActionScript.
    I have a project with an XML Connector that goes out and gets data from an xml file and displays it in a label in my flash.
    It does this when the swf file loads using ActionScript in frame 1.
    The ActionScript is simply:
    this.labels_xc.trigger();
    This is great. It loads the data from the XML file no problem.  But the data in the XML file changes every so often.  How do I get the swf file to go out and get the new data on a regular interval (say every 2 minutes or so)?  I've looked at scripts with timers and I can't figure it out.
    Here is the url to the page I'm testing it on:
    http://www.timescapemedia.com/uptake/text.html

    My lack of experience here is showing.
    I tried putting the following, but neither work.
    this.labels_xc.trigger();
    setInterval(f, 30000);
    function f() {
    this.labels_xc.trigger();
    and
    this.labels_xc.trigger();
    setInterval(f, 30000);
    function f( ) {
    this.labels_xc.trigger();
    Obviously I'm not putting this together correctly.
    I appreciate your patience and help.

  • Print-time XML data update?

    We're researching our options to print artwork with dynamic (i.e. data driven) elements inline with our production process.  We have a packaging machine that has an integrated inline printer and we want to send print jobs that contain dynamic data such as part number, lot number, expiration date, description, etc.  In the past we have used barcoding and marking software for this as it's designed to be either autoamted by a third party application or to pull data from a database itself.  On this new project we're looking to deliver or more graphically rich result.  We thought InDesign with it's XML backed frames may be an interesting option to explore.
    Something like:
    Production management system (PMS) generats the backing XML file with the job specific data
    PMS then retrieves the appropriate InDesign template file for the product being produced
    PMS prints the InDesign template file and the XML data is pulled in
    Keep in mind that workflow is based on reading the product specs and a few blog posts about InDesign, we are NOT InDesign users (yet).  There are a couple areas I see problems and I wanted to ask the community if you happen to know if they are real issues or not.
    I suspect we would need a full InDesign license on the PMS system in order to print the ID template files.  We would want to make tis all command line if possible, we don't want a tech to use InDesign but still I think a license would be needed, even just for printing.  Update:  I have since found InDesign Server and it sounds like it may be an option for this concern.
    If command line printing IS an option, will such an operation cause the template to pull in the XML data that was generated by the PMS?  In other words, the PMS generates an XML file in a location that the InDesign template is expecting, will InDesign pull in that data when the file is sent to the printer?
    Actually, is it even possible to command line print an InDesign template file or do we need to go through a pre-print processing stage to generate a PDF or some other file?
    I hope that these questions aren't too vague and that you understand what we're hoping to accomplish.
    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Chorko,
    When you do your Conversion to Dynamic data, make sure you check your Start Time as Now.

  • Updating an XML data in a table column.

    Hi
    I have a data in XML form stored in a clob column in a table. Now I need to merge an XML data (update) into this XML data.
    For e.g.
    XML 1:
    ======
    <EMP>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>1</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc1</FIRST>
    <LAST>xyz1</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>2</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc2</FIRST>
    <LAST>xyz2</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>3</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc3</FIRST>
    <LAST>xyz3</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    </EMP>
    XML 2:
    ======
    <EMP>
    <ROW>
    <MIDDLE>mno1</MIDDLE>
    </ROW>
    </EMP>
    Result: XML 1 + XML 2 as given below
    ========
    <EMP>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>1</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc1</FIRST>
    <MIDDLE>mno1</MIDDLE>
    <LAST>xyz1</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>2</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc2</FIRST>
    <LAST>xyz2</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <CODE>3</CODE>
    <NAME>
    <FIRST>abc3</FIRST>
    <LAST>xyz3</LAST>
    </NAME>
    </ROW>
    </EMP>
    As shown above I need to put the "Middle" tag from XML 2 into XML 1 and that to at a specific place in the XML 1 and not just append at the end of XML 1.
    Any solution for?
    Thanks,
    Milton.

    There are two ways to do this:
    1/ DOM API: importNode() and AdoptNode()
    2/ XSLT Transformation

  • XML Data not updating on xlf

    hi,
    My IT department created some xml files for a project that I am working on. I want to have XML connecting into the dashboard whenever I update the xml file. Is there a way I can do it? I tried saving the XML data into Excel and importing the spreadsheet into dashboard, which gave the me the data but if I want to have XML data connection with the URL of xml data in my local file it doesn't work. I also tried XML Maps for data manager and that worked one time but if I update same file it won't show me new data after refreshing.
    Does any body know how to do it from starting and give me steps to automatically refresh the data... I have three different data sheets for charts. I have Xcelsius 2008 Engage....I am totally confused...
    Thanks.

  • C# load xml data with attributes to datagridview; update data and save back to the xml

    Hi guys,
    i currently have this XML as data
    <DEALS>
    <DEAL ID="22" ISBN="0-7888-1623-3" Screenplay="Mary Kaplan" Title ="Mr Gentleman" Director = "Jonathan Jones">
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="5000" CODE="72" PRICE="25.00">2500</ALLOCATION>
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="7000" CODE="75" PRICE="35.00">4000</ALLOCATION>
    </DEAL>
    <DEAL ID="23" ISBN="1-7988-1623-3" Screenplay="Joe Doe" Title ="Nothing Much" Director = "Listentome">
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="3300" CODE="72" PRICE="15.00">2500</ALLOCATION>
    </DEAL>
    </DEALS>
    I load the data with the code below:
    i use xDocument to load the DealData.xml and then put it in ToString.
    //outside of the form
    public static class XElementExtensions
    public static DataTable ToDataTable(this XElement element)
    DataSet ds = new DataSet();
    string rawXml = element.ToString();
    ds.ReadXml(new StringReader(rawXml));
    return ds.Tables[0];
    public static DataTable ToDataTable(this IEnumerable<XElement> elements)
    return ToDataTable(new XElement("Root", elements));
    //in the form
    private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    var xDocument = XDocument.Load("DealData.xml");
    string txtxml = xDocument.ToString();
    StringReader reader = new StringReader(txtxml);
    XDocument doc1 = XDocument.Load(reader);
    var res = doc1.Descendants("DEAL").ToList().Where(x => x.Attribute("ID").Value == "22").Descendants("ALLOCATION");
    dataGridView1.DataSource = res.ToDataTable();
    Now my question is:
    I would like to update the data from the DataGridview with the Attribute("ID").Value == "22" and save the data back to the XML.
    For example, after I load my data on the datagridview, we only pickup anything that is in the node
    <DEAL ID="22" ISBN="0-7888-1623-3" Screenplay="Mary Kaplan" Title ="Mr Gentleman" Director = "Jonathan Jones">
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="5000" CODE="72" PRICE="25.00">2500</ALLOCATION>
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="7000" CODE="75" PRICE="35.00">4000</ALLOCATION>
    </DEAL>
    I updated the datagridview below with DEMANDE = 9000 CODE = 66 PRICE = 24.77 AND ALLOCATION = 1200
    I want be able to extract the data back in the xml as a child of the DEAL ID = "22"
    So that the XML file looks like this
    <DEALS>
    <DEAL ID="22" ISBN="0-7888-1623-3" Screenplay="Mary Kaplan" Title ="Mr Gentleman" Director = "Jonathan Jones">
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="5000" CODE="72" PRICE="25.00">2500</ALLOCATION>
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="7000" CODE="75" PRICE="35.00">4000</ALLOCATION>
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="9000" CODE="66" PRICE="24.77">1200</ALLOCATION> <-! this is the new line !->
    </DEAL>
    <DEAL ID="23" ISBN="1-7988-1623-3" Screenplay="Joe Doe" Title ="Nothing Much" Director = "Listentome">
    <ALLOCATION DEMANDE="3300" CODE="72" PRICE="15.00">2500</ALLOCATION>
    </DEAL>
    </DEALS>
    Is there a way to achieve that?
    I have been searching and reading in the books but i cannot find a solution for this.
    Thank you

    I would think of something like the below, the id is passed as static you need to change this
    protected virtual void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    //Get DataTable from DGV datasource
    DataTable dt = new DataTable();
    dt = (DataTable)dataGridView1.DataSource;
    string file1 = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><DEALS><DEAL ID=\"22\" ISBN=\"0-7888-1623-3\" Screenplay=\"Mary Kaplan\" Title =\"Mr Gentleman\" Director = \"Jonathan Jones\"><ALLOCATION DEMANDE=\"5000\" CODE=\"72\" PRICE=\"25.00\">2500</ALLOCATION><ALLOCATION DEMANDE=\"7000\" CODE=\"75\" PRICE=\"35.00\">4000</ALLOCATION></DEAL><DEAL ID=\"23\" ISBN=\"1-7988-1623-3\" Screenplay=\"Joe Doe\" Title =\"Nothing Much\" Director = \"Listentome\"><ALLOCATION DEMANDE=\"3300\" CODE=\"72\" PRICE=\"15.00\">2500</ALLOCATION></DEAL></DEALS>";
    StringReader reader = new StringReader(file1);
    XDocument doc1 = XDocument.Load(reader);
    //Remove all elements related to the id being populated into the Grid
    doc1.Descendants("DEAL").ToList().Where(x => x.Attribute("ID").Value == "22").Descendants("ALLOCATION").Remove();
    //loop through datatable and create new xelement to be added to the xdocument
    foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)
    XElement xe = new XElement("ALLOCATION",
    new XAttribute("DEMANDE", dr[0].ToString()),
    new XAttribute("CODE", dr[1].ToString()),
    new XAttribute("PRICE", dr[2].ToString()));
    xe.Value = dr[3].ToString();
    doc1.Descendants("DEAL").ToList().Where(x => x.Attribute("ID").Value == "22").FirstOrDefault().Add(xe);

  • Dynamically update swf file in sharepoint using xml data

    Hi,
    I need some help/enlightenment on how to auto-update the swf file in sharepoint using xml data.
    I am encountering an error "Cannot access External Data" and pointing to adobe's Cross-domain policy file extension.
    My questions is:
    1. Where should the cross-domain file be copied? In the sharepoint webserver's root folder?
    Right now, we generate the swf file from xcelsius and manually upload them in the sharepoint. However, we wish to automate the data content of this file.
    Thanks for the help.

    GetFileByServerRelativeUrl.... since you're getting a FILE, you'll need a URL to a FILE (not just a library)... by SERVER relative URL, so you'll need to include the site collection path and such, not just the subsite relative URL.
    Now working fine....

  • DataGrid does not display XML data

    Hello, and thanks for reading this...
    I am having a problem displaying XMLList data in a DataGrid.
    The data is coming from a Tree control, which is receiving it
    from a database using HTTPService.
    The data is a list of "Job Orders" from a MySQL database,
    being formatted as XML by a PHP page.
    If it would be helpful to see the actual XML, a sample is
    here:
    http://www.anaheimwib.com/_login/get_all_orders_test2.php
    All is going well until I get to the DataGrid, which doesn't
    display the data, although I know it is there as I can see it in
    debug mode. I've checked the dataField property of the appropriate
    DataGrid column, and it appears correct.
    Following is a summary of the relevant code.
    ...An HTTPService named "get_all_job_orders" retrieves
    records from a MySQL database via PHP...
    ...Results are formatted as E4X:
    HTTPService resultFormat="e4x"
    ...An XMLListCollection's source property is set to the
    returned E4X XML results:
    ...The "order" node is what is being used as the top-level of
    the XML data.
    <mx:XMLListCollection id="jobOrdersReviewXMLList"
    source="{get_all_job_orders.lastResult.order}"/>
    ...The "jobOrdersReviewXMLList" collection is assigned to be
    the dataProvider property of a Tree list, using the @name syntax to
    display the nodes correctly, and a change event function is defined
    to add the records to a DataGrid on a separate Component for
    viewing the XML records:
    <mx:Tree dataProvider="{jobOrdersReviewXMLList}"
    labelField="@name"
    change="jobPosForm.addTreePositionsToDG(event)"/>
    ...Here is the relevant "jobPosForm" code (the Job Positions
    Form, a separate Component based on a Form) :
    ...A variable is declared:
    [Bindable]
    public var positionsArray:XMLList;
    ...The variable is initialized on CreationComplete event of
    the Form:
    positionsArray = new XMLList;
    ...The Tree's change event function is defined within the
    "jobPosForm" Component.
    ...Clicking on a Tree node fires the Change event.
    ...This passes an event object to the function.
    ...This event object contains the XML from the selected Tree
    node.
    ...The Tree node's XML data is passed into the positionsArray
    XMLList.
    ...This array is the dataProvider for the DataGrid, as you
    will see in the following block.
    public function addTreePositionsToDG(event:Event):void{
    this.positionsArray = selectedNode.positions.position;
    ...A datagrid has its dataProvider is bound to
    positionsArray.
    ...(I will only show one column defined here for brevity.)
    ...This column has its dataField property set to "POS_TITLE",
    a field in the returned XML record:
    <mx:DataGrid width="100%" variableRowHeight="true"
    height="75%" id="dgPositions"
    dataProvider="{positionsArray}" editable="false">
    <mx:columns>
    <mx:DataGridColumn width="25" headerText="Position Title"
    dataField="POS_TITLE"/>
    </mx:columns>
    </mx:DataGrid>
    In debug mode, I can examine the datagrid's dataProvider
    property, and see that the correct XML data from the Tree control
    is present. However, The datagrid does not display the data in any
    of its 6 columns.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello again,
    I came up with a method of populating the DataGrid from the
    selected Item of a Tree Control which displays complex XML data and
    XML attributes. After the user clicks on a Tree branch, I call this
    function:
    public function addTreePositionsToDG(event:Event):void{
    //Retrieve all "position" nodes from tree.
    //Loop thru each Position.
    //Add Position data to the positionsArray Array Collection.
    //The DataGrid dataprovider is bound to this array, and will
    be updated.
    positionsArray = new ArrayCollection();
    var selectedNode:Object=event.target.selectedItem;//Contains
    entire branch.
    for each (var position:XML in
    selectedNode.positions.position){
    var posArray:Array = new Array();
    posArray.PK_POSITIONID = position.@PK_POSITIONID;
    posArray.FK_ORDERID = position.@FK_ORDERID;
    posArray.POS_TITLE = position.@POS_TITLE;
    posArray.NUM_YOUTH = position.@NUM_YOUTH;
    posArray.AGE_1617 = position.@AGE_1617;
    posArray.AGE_1821 = position.@AGE_1821;
    posArray.HOURS_WK = position.@HOURS_WK;
    posArray.WAGE_RANGE_FROM = position.@WAGE_RANGE_FROM;
    posArray.WAGE_RANGE_TO = position.@WAGE_RANGE_TO;
    posArray.JOB_DESCR = position.@JOB_DESCR;
    posArray.DES_SKILLS = position.@DES_SKILLS;
    positionsArray.addItem(posArray);
    So, I just had to manually go through the selected Tree node,
    copy each XML attribute into a simple Array, then ADD this Array to
    an ArrayCollection being used as the DataProvider for the DataGrid.
    It's not elegant, but it works and I don't have to use a Label
    Function, which was getting way too complicated. I still think that
    Flex should have an easier way of doing this. There probably is an
    easier way, but the Flex documentation doesn't provide an easy path
    to it.
    I want to thank you, Tracy, for the all the help. I checked
    out the examples you have at www.cflex.net and they are very
    helpful. I bookmarked the site and will be using it as a resource
    from now on.
