Upgrade 9.2.0.8 to 11gR2 optimizer plan stability

Hi,
We plan in upgading our Oracle 9.2.0.8 to 11g R2 soon. We are using HP-UX Itanium.
We have concern about our applications and reports performance after upgrade, and we are preparing test plan for this.
On of the plan is collecting all of the execution plans of the reports that normally running for significant time.
I need your opinion about optimizer plan stability.
As I know, that the only way in 9i is by creating stored outline since STS is not available yet.
Is this the only way or any other way that I am not aware about?
please advice and share your experience.
thanks

One option is to do the upgrade, set optimizer_features_enable to 9.2.0 and baseline capture on, run a full test workload and capture what should be a 9i like sql plan baseline. Then you turn off the sql plan capture and reset optimizer_features_enable to the full power of 11.2. These can then easily be moved between environments.
You could choose to go live with optimizer_features_enable set to 9.2. and turn off a bit later - all depends on timelines, deadlines, risk, etc.
There's a good paper out there somewhere.... here it is:

  • I want to keep the optimizer plan as it is

    hi,
I am working on oracle 10g release 2, there is always change of optimizer plan for query, how do i keep it unchanged

In addition to Oracle outline, in 10g there is the next version of it called Oracle Sql Profile.Read about it here,
    http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2007/02/11/profiles/
The basic drawback of the outline is that once you have a plan stored in them, there isno way that ever the plan stored will change until unless you dont store the new plan in it. That will be a killer when the parameters change, versions change and tehre is a better possibility of a new and good plan.Outline doesn't support this. In 10g,Oracle has give profiles which does the same, store the good plan in them but still they can adapt to some extent the changes happening in the database and based on thatin the plans of your queries.

  • Upgrade to PI 7.1 EHP1 from PI7.0 - Stability of the Product

    Dear Experts,
We are currently working on PI7.0 from last two year and it is working quite fine. We are now in the process of upgrading it to PI7.1 EHP1 SP3/4. We want to upgrade it mainly for using PI's SOA and advance adapter engine functionality.
We would like to know whether PI7.1 EHP1 is stable and whether it is fine to go ahead with this now. We are planning for Production upgrade in next month.
Please comments and would like to have all inputs related to upgrade.
    with regards,
    Ravi Siddam

    Hi Ravi,
I worked on 7.0,7.1 and now on 7.1 EHP1,stability point of view there is no doubt PI7.0 is solid.
I experienced the same with P.1 and 7.1EHP1 too.so you can upgrade to PI7.1 EHP1.
But if you want to implement new features like Adavced Adapter Engine ,there are some limitaions think before to implementing the same.
to improve performace better to go for message packaging it significantly improve the performace,i expericed the same.
implementing SOA Concepts and reusing the same, you need to put lot off effort to analyse the existing servieces, but it will be really helpfull.
    Cheers,
    Raj

  • Optimizer - Plan Change - No Stats Changed

    Hello,
Last week we had a surprise when a well performing query in production started to become worse.
Query that used to run in seconds started taking 3000-4000 secs. It never completed, and the application timed out.
The stats on the table has been locked for more than 15 months now. This is a transactional table.
    DB Version : 10.2.0.4
To replicate the issue, we copied over the data and stats from production to development box. We couldn't replicate it in there and hence the question.
    Here is the query..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The second half of the plan is same in Prod and Dev. It is the first half of the plan that is causing the problem.
In the good plan in Dev, I don't see a MERGE CARTESIAN JOIN in the first part. But, in the plan in production, I do see this.
One bit of detail is: The stats on this table is locked for more than 15 months now. Not sure why, but someone did it to solve some issue previously.
I have compared the structure in production and dev. Stats for the table is same in production and dev.
I haven't checked the optimizer env parameters and the system stats between the systems.
    Still waiting for the information.
    Any pointers ?

    Hi,
    1) the stats didn't change, but the query probably changes all the time (that's the whole point of using dynamic SQL). The costs of the two plans are similar, so it wouldn't be surprising at all if a slight change in the query would result in a significant change in the plan
    2) it's hard to compare entire plans, but one of noticeable differences is the fact that one query uses 1 cartesian merge join, while the other is using 2. You can try disabling cartesian merge joins with a hint or on the session level
    3) it's more difficult for the optimizer to estimate cardinality of
select * from tab where col in ('value1', 'value2', ...)than
select * from tabl where col in
    (select 'value1' from dual
    union all
    select 'value2' from dual
    union all
);so if possible, you should consider rewriting this query in a way that is less confusing to the optimizer
    4) I would be worried about not being able to replicate the issue on a test box -- it means that you can't use your test box to test production performance issues. The difference in behavior suggests that there must be some difference in optimizer settings or table stats (or both). Did you try importing the stats from prod? You can also try dumping parameters to text files and running text comparison to isolate parameters that differ
    5) in a comment to your original post you mention that the issue was resolved -- but it doesn't sound like a sustainable solution, rather, looks like a temporary workaround
    Best regards,

  • If I upgrade my phone will I lose my unlimited plan???

I was told a while back that if I were to upgrade my phone it would alter my plan and I would no longer have my unlimited everything plan. I was wondering if this is true and if so what is the reasoning behind that???

No what I told you is exactly what transpires. At one time it may have happened and it can be a glitch.

The second link will explain more of what has happened.
It states the toggle to keep unlimited is there. However the gotchas get it removed.
Verizon is using any trick to get unlimited data from customers.
Just calling customer service in some cases has had it removed. Resetting your device or adding any feature is now being shown as a chance of losing it.
You have to be very careful!

  • Should I upgrade to Lion from 10.6.8 to improve stability of Java program i am running?

I have a Java program problem, it's unstable and losing connection and freezing. Will an upgrade to Lion from 10.6.8 help?
    thanks

they don't claim it but it is. I have never had a problem with the 2008 macbook, just the desktop. Narrowed it down to this after trying everything else speaking with Scottrade, Oracle and Apple.
I tried to downgrade but got lost at the utilitoes terminal part. any easier way? Apple wont help me downgrade through my care program and I have no idea.
    Thanks

  • Switching from the plan I just upgraded to back to my grandfathered unlimited data plan

I was forced into a new plan when I upgraded in January when before I had unlimited talk/text/data. I was unaware I was able to keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan because the sales representative just said my plan was not offered anymore (and with me as a customer unaware that we are able to keep our original plan when signing up it frustrates me that a representative would do such to their customers) and I'm wondering if I could get that plan back as I am somehow going over 4GB when I do nothing different than I did before (with unlimited data I still only used about 3-3 1/5 GB every month) I'm very unhappy with the change and am contemplating leaving Verizon if I am not able to change back as my bill is  $80 more than previously.

You can only keep you unlimited plan if you paid full price for the phone you upgraded to. So even if Verizon would let you switch back to you old unlimited data plan you'd still have to pay full price for the phone. You got $400 lying around to do that?

  • HT4528 Is it possible to buy an iphone for yourself at the apple store when you're using an upgrade from a different phone number on your plan?

I broke my old phone a few days ago, and my phone number doesn't have an upgrade until the summer of next year. My dad offered me his upgrade, since he doesn't need a new phone and it would save me a few hundred dollars. Is it possible for me to go into the Apple store and purchase a new iPhone when I'm using an upgrade from a different phone number? I already cleared it over with the people at Verizon, who told me I could switch the upgrade over online.

    There are 2 issues here.
Some carriers REQUIRE a data plan in order to use an iPhone on their network. This requirement will vary from carrier to carrier. The iPhone is designed to be constantly connected. If you do not manually go in and turn off cellular data (not just 3G) The phone will attempt to connect to the Internet over the cellular data network. If you have your carrier specifically block these requests, you shouldn't be charged for them. If not, it could end up costing you lots of money you didn't expect. The other thing that will happen is things like visual voicemail will not work (if the carrier supports it to begin with) and you will get lots of messages about not being able to connect to cellular data if you're not in range of WiFi you can connect to. MMS messaging also will not work.
The second issue surrounds the statement: "use the iphone 4 with a standard cdma phone plan".
It is NOT possible to purchase an unlocked CDMA iPhone. ALL CDMA iPhones are locked to Verizon.

  • I'm eligible for a device upgrade.  I just want to change my plan.  Will that initiate a new contract or can I change my plan whenever I want to?

I'm eligible for a device upgrade.  Right now I just want to change plans.  Will changing plans initiate a new contract or can I change plans whenever I want to?

You can change your plan anytime without affecting your upgrade date.

  • I want to upgrade to a smartphone on a small business plan. How much more will it be?

I want to know how much more it will be to upgrade from a basic phone with no data to a smartphone such as an iPhone with 1 or 2 GB of data a month. I'm currently on a plan with my business so I want to know how much a month this will change the overall bill. I want to know before approaching one of the managers about upgrading. I feel its a bad idea not to know exactly how much more it will be and if it will be affordable for me. Thanks!

Upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone will be a fun experience!  I am happy to go over plan options with you!  If you plan to stay with the current plan on your business account, you add a standalone data feature starting at $30 for 2GB.  Otherwise you can switch your line to one of our new Share Everything plans.  This plan gives you unlimited voice, text and you choose a shared data plan.  With this plan you also get the Mobile Hotspot feature at no additional charge.  See plan options here: http://bit.ly/T8w8iL.

  • Upgrading part way through the term of a plan

I'm looking to sign up for the 'Photoshop Photography Program' plan as well as a Single App plan for Illustrator. If my needs require that I need another app partway through the first year can I upgrade to the full plan without any penalty. Or do I have to either wait until 12 months are up or cancel (and loose) what I've already paid for and start again part way through?
I'm torn between getting Creative Suite CS6 Design Standard as well as Lightroom separately on a one off, or signing up for CC, which I accept is more flexible but in the long term will cost considerably more. These are not every day tools for me but they are essential all the same, a major investment which ever way you cut it.
Thanks in advance for your response, Chas RFNM.

  • Is there anyway I can get an upgrade even though I'm on a prepaid plan? Ive been with verizon for years.

I've been a loyal customer to Verizon. I am still contemplating switching to a bill instead of prepaid but in the mean time I was wondering if Verizon had a way for prepaid customers to get upgrades.

That makes no sense. People get subsidized upgrades because they are agreeing to a 2 year contract. You don't have contract with pre-paid so no you can't get a discounted phone for pre-paid. And if you go on postpaid you might want to re-think about taking that subsidized upgrade because you must realize you are locked into a 2 year contract and you won't get to upgrade before then. Unless you need more than 6.5 GB of data I'm not sure why you would switch from pre-paid.

  • Can you upgrade to an iPhone 4 without a data plan?

I was trying to switch my non-smartphone to an iphone. Online it said i had to change to a data plan, but I don't want to pay an extra 10 bucks a month.  I have heard this is possible so I would like to see how I can do it. Thanks!

If you activate a smartphone on Verizon's network you are required to have a data plan.
