Upgrade from 10gr2 SE to 10gr2 EP Verification

Is there anyway to tell if the catalog and catproc have been run after the upgrade?

when you use sqlplus connect to the server. it will show the version of database
or select * from v$version
It's not harmful to run catalog and catproc again. of course it takes time.

Even the active version is also showing the older one. My 10gr2 setup is in raw device. Has anybody faced the same issue before? Please share.

  • Upgrade from 10gr2 to 11gr2 - error during impdp

    Current server is 10gr2 on windows 2003 64 bit, running TDE. On the new server, I've copied the wallet to the new server, opened it using the alter system set encryption wallet open command. Verifed it's open. When I run impdp on the 11gr2 server, I get a ton of these errors:

    Any ideas? I'm doing my practice runs for the real upgrade, which is this weekend, and I've had several successful upgrades, but this time I can't get past this error.

    I do not have any experience with TDE, but see if MOS Doc 1260584.1 can help

  • Upgraded Db from 10gR2 to 11gR2 want to know how can we make use of mem_target & mem_max_size parameter

    Hi Guys,
    Wish u all a very happy new year.
    We have upgraded our Client UAT system on solaris 10 from 10gR2(10.2.0.4) to 11.2.0.3 with latest PSU patch 11.2.0.3.8 Solaris SPark 64 bit.
    Post DB upgrade new parameters have been incorporated into the system namely
    1. Memory_Target
    2. Memory_Max_Size.
    Now although we have our SGA and PGA set to some specific values in our system, what i want to know is how can we utilize the Two parameters i named above in the system and
    how can it provide me better performance in relationship with SGA and PGA set in the system.
    Probably on what concept does Memory_Target and Memory_max_size parameters work in 11gR2 system.
    It would be really great if some one can provide the details with explanation.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Milan Rathod.

    Hi,
    Automatic Memory Management(AMM) was introduced in ORACLE 11g to automate the size of SGA and PGA(takes full control of managing memory)
    To configure AMM ,need to initialize MEMORY_TARGET and MEMORY_MAX_TARGET parameters.
    MEMORY_TARGET:
    The amount of shared memory available for Oracle to use when dynamically controlling the SGA and PGA.
    This parameter is dynamic, so the total amount of memory available to Oracle can be increased or decreased, provided it does not exceed the MEMORY_MAX_TARGET limit. The default value is "0".
    MEMORY_MAX_TARGET:
    This defines the maximum size the MEMORY_TARGET can be increased to without an instance restart.
    If the MEMORY_MAX_TARGET is not specified, it defaults to MEMORY_TARGET setting.
    Let say If you are setting MEMORY_MAX_TARGET=2GB, then oracle will use these 2GB to manage the memory(Boh SGA and PGA)
    If you set db_cache_size=1GB based on your requirement , then AMM always retains this 1GB memory for db_cache_size and it will use the remainng 1GB memory for other processes.

  • 11gR2 Infrastructure Upgrade Question(s) from 10gR2

    Hello.
    We are currently using both Linux (RHEL5) and Solaris (5.10) for all of our Oracle 10.2.0.5.0 RAC DBs. Weare NOT using ASM currently. So, we are going to upgrade our DBs to the latest version of 11gR2 - and this obviously will include our CRS. I know the ASM and CRS under 10g are now combined under the 11gR2 Grid Infracstructure. I have been revieiwing the Oracle Grid Infrastructre Installation Guides for both OSs. While these guides are centered on new installations, I do notice that each has a small appendix tied to upgrading activities (Appendix E in Solaris and Appendix F in Linux).
    I also have a few papers I pulled from blogs related to these activities (e. g., a blog from David Marco and another from Martin Bach) where they are updating their clusterware from 10gR2 to 11gR2. So here are a a few questions I'd like to answer - one may be obvious from what I have already read.
    1.) This may be the obvious or redundant question - almost the entire writeups in the earlier referenced appendices seem to center around an 11.x CRS to 11gR2. So are these appendices still the correct reference when going from 10gR2 to 11gR2? Just double checking myself/
    2.) Sadly, we are not going to be utilizing ASM anytime soon (tied to $$ issues realted to fiber connections). We might later, however, go to ASM. Is there anything I should do in relation to this upgrade tied to ASM that might make it easier to say move over to ASM in the next year - or should I just ignore any references to ASM during this initial upgrade?
    3.) Does anyone have any other additional document references/URLs that you might feel would be helpful in the overall 11gR2 upgrade process (both Infrastructure and/or DB)?
    Thank you in advance for any help.

    1) From the ORACLE prospective will there be any bottlenecks.
    2) Are they any proactive measures i need to take.If so can you provide me link to a doc which might be helpful
    Any comments are appreciated.

    Both Windows 2003 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition are certified platforms for Oracle 10g Rel. 2.
    I can see you are currently working with patchset 10.2.0.2.0. You didn't mention if you are planning to upgrade to 10.2.0.3.0 but if you are willing to do so, there are several issues reported by the oracle community, I have included verbatim transcripts from the referred sites, just to name a few:
    http://www.pythian.com/blogs/356/oracle-10203-patchset-known-issues-and-bugs
    Other platforms to watch out with 10.2.0.3 patchset are Windows and Linux 32 bit - Metalink Note 403616.1 “Many Child Cursors create in 10.2.0.3 on Windows and Linux”. This will likely affect applications with heavy usage of bind variables (perhaps, ones with cursor_sharing=force/similar as well) and busy OLTP is a good candidate. See for yourself the note I mentioned above - it describes some symptoms and consequences (latch contention, ORA-4031, ORA-600) pretty well. The good news is that Linux platform has one-off patch available already - patch 5705795.

    Oracle 10.2.0.3 patchset is out
    December 5th, 2006 - by Marc Fielding
    My colleague Vamsi Chikkam noticed that the Oracle 10.2.0.3 patchset has been released for Linux and Windows 32-bit. The major bugfixes are the same as my original post with a few additions:
    * Identical SQL run in different schemas may modify the wrong schema’s tables (bug 5458753)… we have run into this problem at a client site and it’s not pretty. Workarounds include qualifying schema names in SQL and one-off patches for 10.2.0.2. MetaLink note 329673.1 has more details.
    * When cursors are being reloaded frequently in the shared pool, PLS-306/ORA-1722/ORA-1858 errors can occur (bug 4752541)
    * Under Windows platforms, triggers referencing :NEW/:OLD using NCHAR/NVARCHAR character sets can error out (bug 5388136)
    * The same issue as bug 5388136 above also causes compilation errors on 10.2.0.2 databases upgraded from previous releases under Windows(bug 5383828)

  • Migrating from 10gR2 to 11gR2 using impdp with network_link fails

    Hi,
    I'm trying to migrate a database from 10gR2 (Novell SLES 10) to a new server (Novell SLES 11) with 11gR2. I created a database on the new system with all required users and tablespaces. Then I used impdp in 11g with a database link to the source database:
    impdp system/pw@db NETWORK_LINK=X_SourceServer FULL=Y
    This command fails immediately with ORA-39113: unable to determine database version. Even using the parameter VERSION=10.2.0 doesn't change the result.
    The Oracle Upgrade Guide tells me that upgrading is possible from 10* to 11* and recommeds impdp and network link. Is the failure perhaps a bug in the NETWORK_LINK procedure? Should I better try expdp on the source and impdp on the target with a dumpfile as intermediate (the database ist rather big, so dealing with files across the network will take a lot of storage capacity)?
    Has anyone tried this method with success?
    Thanks

  • ORA-31183 error in XML handling routine after upgrade to 10gr2

    Hello,
    I have a series of packages that parse XML documents from a staging table, held as XMLType, and breaks it out to populate several relational structures.
    These where original developed using 9.2.0.4, and have been used through all patch upgrades to 9i, and on 10gr1 with no issue.
    However, we upgraded to 10gr2 this week, and the code has stopped working, returning the following error for all records:-
    ORA-31183: Node type document cannot be converted to desired type
    ORA-06512: at "XDB.DBMS_XMLDOM", line 1075
    ORA-06512: at "XDB.DBMS_XMLDOM", line 1093
    ORA-06512: at line 123
    I have isolated the error to a call to dbms_xmldom.makeelement. The segment of the code that fails is
    v_parser := dbms_xmlparser.newparser;
    dbms_xmlparser.parseclob(v_parser, v_mqtl_rec.msg_data.getclobval());
    v_dom := dbms_xmlparser.getdocument(v_parser);
    dbms_xmlparser.freeparser(v_parser);
    v_item_node := dbms_xmldom.makeNode(v_dom);
    v_element := dbms_xmldom.makeelement(v_save_callback_node); --ERROR OCCURES HERE
    v_nodelist := dbms_xmldom.getchildrenbytagname(v_element,'NotifyCallback');
    where v_mqtl_rec.msg_data.getclobval() is the clob from the xmltype, v_parser is dbms_xmlparser.parser, v_item_node is dbms_xmldom.domnode and v_nodelist is dbms_xmldom.domnodelist.
    looking at the 10gr2 documntation, I cannot see any changes to this API call.
    Any suggestions on why this no longer works?
    Regards,
    Dave

    Figured it out. Turns out the 10gr2 version of DBMS_XMLDOM is a bit stricter on what on can do with various flavours of domnodes.
    Just in case anyone else gets a similar error, here's how I resolved it.
    I replaced the three lines:-
    v_item_node := dbms_xmldom.makeNode(v_dom);
    v_element := dbms_xmldom.makeelement(v_save_callback_node); --ERROR OCCURES HERE
    v_nodelist := dbms_xmldom.getchildrenbytagname(v_element,'NotifyCallback');
    with the following line:-
    v_nodelist := dbms_xmldom.getelementsbytagname(v_dom,'NotifyCallback');
    Regards,
    Dave.

  • Going from 10gR2 to 11gR2 - any obvious performance 'pitfalls'?

    Hi, there,
    I'm moving some databases from 10gR2 to 11gR2. I was wondering whether there were any obvious pitfalls in performance that I should be aware of (like the optimizer ones in previous versions). I'm taking the SPFILE from 10gR2 and modifying it as little as possible to use as my 11gR2's SPFILE.
    Also, I've heard murmurs of timezones being an issue in migrating to 11gR2? I'm either going to be using export/import or TTS to move my data. I wonder if the timezone issue is related to RMAN somehow.
    Mark

    Hi,
    I performed an Upgrade from 10.2.0.4.4 to 11.2.0.1 two weeks ago.
    I used a note from oracle support for manual upgrade to 11gR2
    the database had database vault and also had auditing enabled.
    these peculiarities are all covered in the note.
    I would suggest that if you have auditing enabled, set the parameter audit_trail=none before you commence upgrade.
    In addition make sure the you have tested the upgrade before implementing on your production environment, this would prepare you greatly.
    after the upgrade, the timezone was upgraded to 11, database vault was turned on, EM upgraded, database vault application redeployed.
    all the best

  • Upgrade from 11i to R12 - Custom Forms,Reports and Workflows

    Dear Community Friends,
    We are planning for upgrade from oracle apps 11.5.10.2 to R12.
    We have custom Forms,Form Libraries,Reports and Workflows.
    Kindly provide me for approach on how to migrate Custom form libraries,reports and Workflows.
    I beleive, this thread will exists as one shot point for custom forms,reports,workflow upgradation from 11i to r12 with detailed steps.
    I know that many links exists here in the forum for all the above objects mentioned,but still from all those i am able to get a clear picture for oracle forms but not for custom form libraries ,reports and workflows.
    Also,this post will provide a low level,practical picture of the steps for those who are in line with this.
    Links i have read for all these in our forum are:
    For Custom Forms,
    Re: Planning to upgrade from 11i to R12
    Re: Custom forms: After upgrading 11i to R12
    ofcourse,'n' number of links exists providing metalink notes also.
    Hussain,Helios and some others also has given many updates regd this.
    For custom workflow upgradation,
    Upgrade Workflow 11i to R12
    Workflow Upgrade
    Workflow Upgrade
    For reports,links mentioned the below metalink notes:
    Do Not Compile EBS R12 Reports Using rwconverter.sh or Reports Builder from IDS 10gR2 [ID 786794.1]
    Using the OracleAS 10.1.2 Forms and Reports Builders with Oracle Applications Release 12 [ID 444248.1]
    Per my understanding, after searching in many threads,i am here by summarising the practical low level steps for custom forms migration
    Please correct me,if i am wrong.
    1) Download the Forms(.fmb's) and all PLL's(all the PLL from resource folder in AU_TOP) into a Local Machine Folder
    2) Open the forms using Forms Developer 10G and connect to DB
    3) Compile by clicking compilein Forms Developer and then save it.
    4) Upload the Saved Forms(.fmb's) into the new R12 server(system) in the respective custom paths(paths similar to 11i Server)
    5) Compile all the forms using the command like below(example command is shown below or f60 gen commands or frmcmp.sh utility) in the respective custom form paths,
    this will generate the .fmx's.
    frmcmp_batch module=FORMNAME.fmb userid=apps/apps output_file=FORMNAME.fmx compile_all=yes
    Link for compiling forms: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/ui/km/SearchDocDisplay.jspx?_afrLoop=359210362972527&type=DOCUMENT&id=1085928.1&displayIndex=3&_afrWindowMode=0&_adf.ctrl-state=c348xvwbg_98
    6) Open the form and check in R12 instance
    As per my understanding for custom form libraries,we can just copy paste the PLL's from 11i server to R12 server (Please correct me,if i am wrong)
    Can anyone please help me out in custom reports and custom workflows.Sorry that,i could not get a practical and clear picture for reports and also for workflow even after referring many threads and metalink notes mentioned.
    As for reports,some says that Developer Suite 10g can be used and .rdf can be used in R12.
    Some says that reports should be converted to XML published as reports does not exists in R12.
    So,i am not clear on this.
    Thanks,

    As per my understanding for custom form libraries,we can just copy paste the PLL's from 11i server to R12 server (Please correct me,if i am wrong)You are right, and the steps mentioned above should be sufficient.
    So,i am not clear on this.You can still use RDF files in R12, and just follow the approach you mentioned above, and you do not have to migrate them to XML publisher (though it is recommended, but this can be done after the upgrade as an enhancement task).
    For custom workflow, you need also to do the same thing, open them using workflow builder and make sure they work in R12 (correct the code if required and save them again in R12 once they work properly).
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2

    dear all ,
    if i have oracle database 10.1.0 on windows and i have another server on unix
    can you tell me the best method to transfer database from windows to unix ???
    another question if i have 10.1.0 and i need to upgrade it to 10.2.0
    what i do ???

    Hi,
    To move your database from windows to unix, you have to know if the endia format is compatible and than see the best method to move,see note:
    Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1]
    To upgrade your db from 10.1 to 10.2, you have to put your database in 10.1.0.2 or higher and than you can upgrade to 10.2.
    See note:

    Hello Marc,
    i think you are mixing up two things
    10.1.0.4 = 10g R1 with Patchset 4
    10.2.0.2 = 10g R2 with Patchset 2
    10.2.0.4 = 10g R2 with Patchset 4
    So you always upgrade from 10g R1 to 10g R2 .. and then is the question which Patchset for 10g R2.
    I would use 10gR2 with Patchset 4, because there are some nice features and not so many bug fixes to apply.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Upgrading from Oracle database 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.3

    Hello
    I'm new to oracle database installations. I'm trying to upgrade from 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.3 but have no clue on how to do it...
    What must i do and where can i download the necessary executables? Metalink?
    I thank in advance all your help!
    Best regards

    OK,
    This is an upgrade from 10g Rel 1 to 10g Rel 2 plus the 10.2.0.3.0 patchset. It means you will have to perform these operation>
    0. Perform a full backup of your current environment.
    1. Install 10gR2 on a separate Oracle Home.
    2. Apply the 10.2.0.3.0 patchset on top of this new oracle installation.
    3. Perform the database upgrade process to upgrade your database from 10gR1 to 10gR2-3
    This is not an upgrade guide and there are a lot of details you must consider prior to actually executing this procedure, I suggest you to read the 10gR2 upgrade guide you can find here --> http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/toc.htm
