MiniDisplay Port (Thunderbolt MacbookPro) to DisplayPort Dell U2410m don't work! The signal only comes as YPbPr, no RGB and bad quality. Is there any solution?

I want to connect my new MacBook Pro via DisplayPort to a Dell U2410m monitor.
But the signal only comes as YPbPr, no RGB and bad quality. Is there any solution?
It works with the mini display port to DVI adapter from Apple but I want to use the DisplayPort.

J~
cmelbourne91 was suggesting HDMI because many of the MDP/Thunderbolt to DVI adapters come with an additional DVI to HDMI (not Apple's) and you likely won't find any MDP to HDMI becuase of something weird with one of the Apple or HDMI related patents and the type of cable/jack/plug required for it.
As for my computer (15" MBP mid 2010), it almost seems as if I have your problem but intermittently. When connected to an external monitor or projector, the thing will project just fine, but then after some time (and no movement of the computer, cables, or screen) the connection quits. Sometimes it comes back on, sometimes it does not, but it basically registers as if there is no external display.
Any additional info on this?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

The Mini-DVI port doen't carry audio at all. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • After update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

A DVD (mpg file only) comes up on my MacBook and Dell PC but not my iMac.  Aren't all Macs alike?  I was told by a couple of experts to copy the file on my MacBook and then send it to my iMac.  But shouldn't my iMac show it now if my little Mac does?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then pop in the DVD again.

  • G5 Quad (Geforce 6600) and Dell 2405fpw don't work together

I purchased both (G5 Quad (Geforce 6600) and Dell 2405fpw) brand-new a few days ago.
When I connect the display using the supplied DVI->VGA cable, the display works. When I connect them using (about any type of) DVI-D cable, I get no picture. The dell screen just stays in stand-by mode. BUT it gets detected (I can see this when I connect a second screen). And the screen show a test image when I disconnect it from the mac, so there's at least SOMETHING happening...
    What is wrong here?
I am first-time Mac user and on edge to go to the PC/Unix world again, without ever looking back to apple-land, because of this, as it is SERIOUSLY SCREWING UP christmas for us this year.
    Thanks for your help.

Actually ``detect displays'' found the screen, that was what I meant in my first post.
The issue is kinda solved now, the DVI-Port of the ``brand-new'' display, which was delivered directly from the Dell factory in Limerick, is non-functional.
I tried it with a different setup (PC) and see the same symptoms, which lead me to this conclusion. I will get a full refund and possibly buy a 3007WFP if the price is decent.
It should work with a Geforce 6600 - even at 2560x1600.
    Thanks,

  • Can Apple fix my charger port on my iPod touch 4th generation with out deleting the data I have on it (pictures , games and such)

I Guess this would apply to the term accessory but can you fix it without deleting data

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours. Also, Apple does not preserve or transfer the data
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following maybe less. Google for more. They say they try to preserve data

Can you or do yo have either an iCloud or iTunes backup of your iPod? The backup included apps data and photos/videos in your Camera Roll album.
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • How can I get a video signal using IMAC 27 with only mini display port. I like to send the signal wireless to a TV using a TV/audio transmit system.

I have an IMAC 27 with a mini display port ( only this). I also have all the adapters ( mini display port to VGA, HDMI...).
Since I moved to UAE I like to transmit the signal frm my IMAC ( where I also look German TV on) to my TV. I will do so by using a wireless Transmit receive system with theree cinch inputs ( transmit system ( video, 2x voice).
The distance to the TV IS ABOUT 10m and one wall. I don`t want to use a cable.
Is there any solution for example mini display to VGA + VGA adapter to cinch so I can use the transmit system?
HDMI would also be an optiekn, bat then I have to by another Transmit receive system.
If somebody made already the experience I would appreciate to share the information
Is there may be any store in UAE where to get support. It is very diificult to get good advice here. They sell everything bat can not reaaly explain and have very often  no technical knowledge. With this problem nobody until now can help me.

I don't know what AppleTV can handle as far as bit rate is concerned, but increase the bit rate as high as it will let you. You are taking DV which is 25Mb/s and compressing it. If you're making an H.264, you should get great results needing no more than 6Mb/s. Bear in mind, the higher the bit rate, the larger the file size.

  • Is there any plan to develop secure iPad mirroring over common ports?

We're very interested in offering our faculty the option of projecting their in-class lectures from their iPads. Unfortunately, the lack of security and the special WIFI ports required are making this very difficult for our facilities and security staff to implement in our wireless infrastructure. We feel there is a real potential benefit in new, more interactive lecturing styles that could come out of this practice. Is Apple aware of the desire for this, and if so, is there any sense of when a secure solution might be available?

AirPlay is only using pretty standard ports - 80, 443, 554, 3289 and 5353 - so it's not something most sites would have blocked or other normal network functions from most platforms won't work either. Hence is really shouldn't be a security issue. If you're blocking those ports, you may want to revisit that and see if it's really necessary. If you must block those, then AirPlay probably just isn't going to work for you. Changing would probably require Apple to revamp much of its networking structure and use even less common ports.
A more common issue in large institutions is the problem with dealing with multiple WiFi access points and the need to have the iPad and the Apple TV on the same subnet. Those are often more difficult issues to solve.
    Regards.

  • Any solution to the glare off the screen on my MacBookPro 13"?

Is there any solution to the glare off the screen on my MacBookPro 13"?  Main usage is in photography.

    Hi Richard,
I have to agree with SU. I don't want to sound flippant, but the other option would be to use it in a totally dark room. I know, not real practical. Although they say "never say never," I think it's safe for me to say, since CRTs have exited the scene, I'll never purchase anything with a glossy display.

  • MiniDisplay Port and Thunderbolt - the same??

I am looking for a cable to connect my Dell 19inch Monitor..
I did use an Apple adaptor to DVI and a DVI cable to my Monitor from my i7 Apple Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt, but suddenly this has stopped working and the Monitor isn't recognised?
I am now looking for a single cable which maybe easier but have been told by different sites and eBay sellers that Thunderbolt and MiniDisplay Port are the same and others that its NOT the same??!?
My DVI cable had 2 sets of 9 pins in 2 blocks inside the cable end, was this a contributing factor? Do I need a DVI end cable (going into the Monitor) with a full set of pins on the end?
As mentioned this DID work and when I use the same DVI cable to connect the same Monitor to a PC it works fine?
I'm still guessing that it maybe the Apple Adaptor, but if i bought a brand new cable like this, maybe this should correct it - I just need to know if I should buy a "MiniDisplay Port" connector or "Thunderbolt" connector?

    Thanks for any help

The physical port is the same but the function is different and the same.
The port on your mac can do both thunderbolt connections and mini displayport connections. But on older system with that same port they can only do the displayport part.
As to why your monitor stopped being seen well that is just one of the apple mac os x glitches. For some reason apple really has not figured out how to do external monitors very well let alone dual monitors.
Try shutting down completely, powering off. Then restart with the external monitor and tb to dvi adapter disconnected. Then connect the adapter and then the monitor. If that still doesn't work then you may have a bad adapter or a bad cable.

  • HT3382 What if I want to connect the minidisplay port of a mac book air with the minidisplay port of a monitor? Can I use a the thunderbolt cable to do this connections?

Using mac book air (late 2010) minidisplay port and minidisplay port of monitor Monitor Dell UltraSharp de 23.8" Widescreen U2414H.
Can I connect them using a thunderbolt cable or is there a specific cable I can use to stablish this connection?
    Thanks

A Thunderbolt cable won't work.  Use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort, or Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort, cable.

(If you use DisplayPort, make sure you use the Input, not Output, port on the display.)

  • Can the last link in a thunderbolt daisy-chain be a non-thunderbolt monitor using miniDisplay port?

Can the last link in a thunderbolt daisy-chain be a non-thunderbolt monitor, using miniDisplay port?
For example, Mac mini <--> external SSD <--> apple cinema display 30" (using miniDisplay port adaptor plugged into the SSD's second thunderbolt port)

FWIW, STAE129 is the current version TB adapter
that is self powered and has TB daisy chain port.
STAE122 and STAE127 are older versions and
not the current model, though there may be stock of
these around.  As to whether this will solve your issue,
    I don't know.
Can I trick the Mac under Bootcamp as OS to use HDMI for the monitor? Dell officially says that the monitor can only accept 1900x1080 over HDMI, but some have fiddled wth different computers with custom settings that worked with some Monitors but mostly under Linux and to Dell 2711.
The MacMini HDMI port is hardware limited to 1980x1200.

  • MiniDisplay port to Thunderbolt connection - possible?

    Hi all,
Im trying to utilize a older iMac (with MiniDisplay port) as a second screen with a newer iMac which has a Thunderbolt.
Can this be done? If so, what sort of cables do I need? I cant see to find a simple MiniDisplay to Thunderbolt cable....does one even exist?
    Cheers
    Chris.

Yes. Use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable; the ports are physically identical and no adapter is needed.

  • Thunderbolt or MiniDisplay Port?

So I'm wanting to get an HDMI hook up for my Macbook, so I can hook up almost anywhere I go. While searching for a MiniDisplay Port adapter, I came across a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. So my question is, which is better? I know Thunderbolt is supposed to be blazing fast, but would it make much of a difference if I got one or the other?

The minidisplayport to HDMI works fine. Thunderbolt is just going to cost more.
