Upgrade from Photoshop 7.0

Hi everyone. Need some help with this:
I've a 20" Intel iMac (v.2006) with 4Gb RAM and ATI Radeon X1600 and an old version of Adobe Photoshop: v7.0!!
So, today i finally managed to install SnowLeopard to discover afterwards that it was not compatible with that system. Do you know if the CS5 upgrade is trouble free with that older version?
Thx
Ricardo

Do you say that Snow Leopard is not compatible with that iMac? It is. I run Snow Leopard on the first generation 20" Intel iMac without any problem. Photoshop 7 might not work with Snow Leopard though. (Just to clarify: That iMac is only for scanning and watching movies normally and does not have any version of Photoshop on it as the machine can only take a max of 1.5GB RAM. I scan with Vuescan).

Hello - I upgraded from photoshop cc to cc 2014 and lost my plug ins.  How can I move them into cc 2014? Thanks

The install of 2014 doesn't move or copy anything from a previous version, with the exception of settings. You can go into your Photoshop CC installation folder, navigate to your plugins folder and then just copy all the plugins you've installed from that folder and into the Photoshop CC 2014 plugins folder. The plugins should then be available in 2014 the next time you launch Photoshop.
The only thing that may prevent this from working is if you're using the 32bit version of Photoshop CC. Photoshop CC 2014 is 64bit only so 32bit plugins don't work. If this is the case for you, check out the manufacturer of the plugins and see if they have 64bit versions available.

  • Cannot direct upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 Extended

Despite the information in various spots on Adobe's website, it appears that it's not possible to simply upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 Extended. After entering the CS5 serial number, the installer asks for the serial number of a "qualifying product". This includes a dropdown list that only has
    Photoshop CS5
    Photoshop CS4 Extended
    Photoshop CS3 Extended
    Here's the view:
Entering the CS2 serial number == fail.
A call to Adobe support get past this issue, basically reading out a challenge/response from the installer to the guy on the phone. But this seems remarkably stupid to me. Was it really more effective to force me (and anyone else following this upgrade path) to call tech support just to install the software I just past $350 for? And if this was the plan, why not SAY SO ON THE ADOBE WEBSITE?!?
Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, was calling tech support the only way out?

You are correct in wishing Adobe made it clear that you do need to go through Customer Service to accomplish this.
Most users make the purchase through Adobe and straighten this out before installing.

  • Last chance: 11 days left to upgrade from Photoshop 7

Last chance to move up from PS7
With the CS3 product cycle, Adobe instituted a "3 versions back" policy on upgrades. That is, you can upgrade to the current version of Adobe tools from any version up to three versions back. In the case of CS3 that meant Photoshop 7, CS, and CS2. With CS4 it's of course CS through CS3. The upshot is that if you want to upgrade from Photoshop 7, the window is closing, and
you've got until October 15 to do so.

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Extended CS5 to PS Extended CS6 (I do NOT want CC) but have been unable to find this at a sensible price (or sometimes at all). Help, anyone please?

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Extended CS5 to PS Extended CS6 Mac (I do NOT want CC) but have been unable to find this at a sensible price (or sometimes at all). Help, anyone please? This is in UK, btw!

What do you consider a sensible price?  PS CS6 extended is available only when you purchase the CS6 Suite, which is around $1000 for the upgrade from CS5.  PS 6, which is not extended, is about $200, but I'm not sure about upgrading to a single app from a suite.  Adobe used to allow it, but I'm not sure about now.  PS CC and Lightroom 5 combo is $9.99 a month or PS CC alone for $19.99 or the whole CC suite for $29 a month.  The latest CC apps are "extended."

  • Upgrade from Photoshop Elements 8 to 11 ?

Can I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 8 to 11 on my iMac 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.6.8 ?
(And while I'm about it, should I upgrade my OS - if it's possible on this iMac ?)

Based off the system requirements listed at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/tech-specs.html it would appear you can upgrade successfully.   You should be able to upgrade to at least Mac OS 10.7 as well.  You may also be able to upgrade to 10.8 as well but you will want to verify if your particular iMac supports 10.8 or not.  Not all Intel Core 2 Duo Macs were able to upgrade.

How can I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 12 to Photoshop Elements 13  AND Photoshop Premiere Elements 13? What would be the price?

    Hi Raymond,
I would advise you to buy the bundle package of Premiere and Photoshop Elements 13 which cost 149 $ but due to online promotions the price right now is 119 $.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

  • How do I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 11 to PSE 12 (student edition)

How do I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 11 to PSE 12 (student edition)

I believe you just need to purchase the upgrade.  I don't think there is any additional discount with upgrade pricing, meaning you don't also get a student version discount with an already discounted upgrade purchase.  As far as versions go, there is no difference between a regular and a student version... the difference is in the licensing.

I am trying to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 10 to 11 and get a message to close ELementsAutoAnalyzer and dynamiclinkmanager.  How do I do that?

    from gautham k:
Which operating system are you using?
Restart your computer. Then, follow these steps:
    On Windows:
    1. Navigate to the task manager.
    2. Click on the processes tab.
    3. Select "Show processes from all users". In the list of processes, look for ElementsAutoanalyzer & dynamiclinkmanager.
    4. Select the processes and end them.
    5. Reinstall the applications.
    On a Mac:
    1. Navigate to activity monitor.
    2. Select processes and "show all processes" in the drop down menu at the top of the dialog.
    3. In the list of processes, look for ElementsAutoanalyzer & dynamiclinkmanager.

  • Upgraded from Photoshop elements 7 to photoshop elements 12.

I recently upgraded from photoshop elements 7 to photoshop elements 12. I tried to restore the backup from elements 7 to the new version, using the restore catalogue option. It found all the photos, but the album info was not restored. Could you advise what I did wrong or an alternive solution?

    Hi,
Are there no albums in the left panel of Elements Organizer 12? Please try expanding "Local Albums" panel on the left.
    Thanks

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog, or is Elements 5 too old to read?

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog including all of the tags, captions, etc, or is Elements 5 too old for Lightroom 5 to read/convert?  What's the best way to migrate?  (My catalog has over 100k images in it.)

Adobe changed the catalog software from PSE6 onwards to the SQLite database – as used in Lightroom.
Earlier versions of PSE including PSE5 used a Microsoft Access database, stored in a file called [Catalog Name].psa.
If you have already embedded keywords and captions by writing file info into the images they should be readable even if catalog conversion fails. Lightroom does have the ability to import a PSE catalog but in view of the age of PSE5 I would recommend downloading the 30 day free trial of LR5.6 and then you can judge the level of success of catalog conversion.

  • Can I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 7.0 to 8.0?

Hello, I was just wondering if I would be able to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 7.0, to Photoshop Elements 8.0 or 9.0? I ask, because I'm still currently running Windows XP, but I will be switching over to Windows 7 this weekend, and it turns out that PE 7.0 isn't compatible with W7. After running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it has informed me that a paid upgrade is required, but I just can't figure out how to upgrade. I know there are newer versions for PE, but I don't really care for PE 12. I just want something simple. If anyone has any information on this, please feel free to answer.

    Yes it should work.
Here are a couple of discussions about it:

  • Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 after installing Lion?

Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 after installing Lion?   Or should I have done it before installing Lion?

I think you are missing my point.
For the last many editions of the creative suite they have each been completely independent. There is no "going over a previous version. Each version stands on its own and is a clean install — as long as you haven't installed that specific version before.
And "obsolete" is a pretty relative term. With products as complex as the creative suite there are often features (or even whole applications) that change between versions. Many people I know keep earlier versions around, just for that very reason.

  • Problem upgrading from Photoshop CS2 to CS4 Extended

I purchased the retail box Photoshop CS4 Extended Upgrade (Windows) from a retail store ($349.99 + tax). I am upgrading from Photoshop CS2 and this is the version that the Adobe website says to purchase for this upgrade path. The problem is that CS4 doesn't see my installed, working, activated, and registered CS2 installation so it brings up the next screen offering to allow me to install it as a trial version OR list my qualifying product and serial number. The way that it offers to let me enter my qualifying product is via a drop down box with a single entry of CS3 Extended. No way of entering my CS2 there and it doesn't like my CS2 serial number entered with a CS3 product being shown there (says it isn't a valid CS3 serial number...of course it isn't). Does anyone know how to get this thing to install? Adobe tech support is gone until Monday and then I'll be at work, unable to try anything they might suggest.
Why does Adobe make upgrades so painful? I remember CS2 was a PITA and took Adobe tech support a week to figure out how to get it to install.

No, this shouldn't be extended to extended (I wouldn't expect to shell out $350 twice for extended). This is Adobe P/N 65015396 which their website says is for PhotoShop CS, CS2, CS3, and CS3 upgrades and retails for $350. The face of the box is identified as Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended Windows and the side of the box only says that I must have an "eligible older version of Adobe or Macromedia software." It also says to check the website, which says this P/N is what to buy for my upgrade path. A mess? YES!!!
