My current phone is due for an upgrade...Verizon says they will give me a new phone free of charge if I renew.
Question:
I heard that Apple will apply the same "upgrade credit" to their Iphone. Is this possible and how can I do it?

Drop Box - possible for other user to monitor progress?

Is it possible, for the user whose Drop Box I am tranferring files to, to monitor the progress so they can tell when an upload is complete to their Mac?
I get the progress window on my end, but they have no idea what is going on on their end.

Pretty difficult, iirc the Filesize required is reserved at the start, so Get Info wouldn't help.
Perhaps they could use Activity Monitor to observe the Network IN activity?
Most likely someway to monitor it with a Script, but beyond me at the moment... Maybe Sharepoints with AFP Monitor!

There is a video called Bonus Determination that shows the steps for a developer and a business user.
The developer may create the function, data objects and maybe the initial decision table. The business user then can create the lines in a decision table.
In the 701 version this should work fine. The 701 trail version is a pre-release CD which contains some bugs that should be gone in the latest SP of 701.

Is it possible for one user to use Aperture and another iPhoto?

I have a new imac 21.5", 3.33ghz, 4gb and I was wondering if it is possible for me as admin user to handle camera downloads automatically with Aperture, and my wife as second user to use iPhoto as automatic camera destination? Any comments would be appreciated.

If you want to use the same account there are a number of possibilities:
1. Set both Aperture and iPhoto to Do Nothing when a camera is connected. Then each one can launch their preferred app themselves. It's just one extra click.
2. Use [Cameras|http://www.flexibits.com> to configure what happens when different cameras are connected.

Is it possible for multiple users to use a "generic" account simultaneously without screen sharing?

Hey and thanks for checking out the thread.
I am wondering if it is possible to have users use a generic account at the same time without any sort of screen sharing.
I have set up a generic user account (for example useraccount, password 1234) for users to use in the time before I can set up a custom user name for them. However, I have run into some issues with this.
When multiple users log on using this generic account, their applications seem to be shared on each screen. In the room with multiple Mac workstations, if someone starts working on Photoshop, Photoshop will open on every one elses screen who is logged on under that generic account.
Is it possible for users to log on using a generic network account and have their own isolated work environment or is this sort of sharing a feature? I am new to Mac servers and am not sure.

That shared-account approach seems impractical for the various reasons you've identified, as well as the inevitable issue of cleaning up the detritus that'll inevitably build up in a shared account, and for the lack of accountability for activities occuring under the shared account for both auditing and security, and sharing directories would tend to introduce obscure conflicts around which-file-version-wins file updates when the same file is used in several places, and would probably be contrary to any per-user application software licensing agreements that might be involved.
Put another way, get unique accounts created for folks, and work toward the ability to create accounts for arriving folks, and — if it's applicable here — talk to management about getting any per-user software licensing issues sorted out, whether that's having spare copies purchased and ahead or some advanced notice on accounts, or establishing group software licensing where that's available.
AFAIK, there are tools around which can automate account creation, too. Either generic, a tool such as Passenger, or it's certainly feasible to script the account creation sequence.
Trying this shared-access generic-account approach just looks like it can create more work and more hassles and more effort to me...

In my opinion, you want to use the same Apple/iCloud/iTunes ID on both devices. That is exactly what iCloud is designed for - to keep devices with the same Apple ID in sync. Your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Safari Bookmarks, Notes, Photo Stream photos, and Documents will all be kept in sync if you have those options set up on both devices under Settings>iCloud.
Unless you have some reason to not want to have the same information on both devices, then going with a single ID on both is the way to go.

Is it possible for two users on seperate Macs to edit the same iPhoto Library

I've recently been on an overseas trip with my partner, and now we have 5000 photos to sort through, tag, and add descriptions for.
Is it possible for us to access the same iPhoto library on each of our Macs to make it faster to sort through the photos? If so, how do I go about setting this up? We have a third mac, might it be better to move the iPhoto Library to that, make it act as server of sorts, and our other two macs as clients?

Yes it is possible, but there are a few caveats.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
Only one of you can access the Library at a time. You can't both be working on the project at the same time.
iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Quit iPhoto in both machines. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
On each machine in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both machines will 'own' it.

Is it possible for a user to select what channel appears on a tab?

I would like for a user to be able to choose content and move that content from tab to tab. Or is it that tabs are administrator defined and that the content in a tab can't be selected by an end user?

Unfortunately no, currently the channels for a particular tab need to be predifined by the administrator.

Is it possible for a user to embed a graphic file in a form?

Hi all,
I'm designing a form that users will submit to report problems with software packages to our support teams. I would like the user completing the form to be able to embed a screenshot of the problem they are having into the form (I was planning to put this in a repeating table so that they can add more than one screenshot).
What I don't want to do, however, is have the actual full size screenshot displayed, when they embed the screenshot file. I want there to be an icon that 'represents' the screenshot that the support personnel can then double click on to actually view it (a bit like embedding objects in MS Words docs I suppose).
Does anyone know if this is possible? The Image Field controld doesn't seem to work in this manner.

In one of my forms I used similar concept, however I used Button and Image overlay on each other and have code under Button Click event....But the code attaches any document/file the user chose attach rather than just screenshot....this could be starting point for you to try some thing you want.... Following is the code I used....

Is it possible for a user to edit the output of a form before printing?

This might sound odd but the business have requested the ability to edit the text of a Smartform before printing. i.e. a standard form can be printed 'as is' for most employees but certain exceptions may require the wording to be slightly amended.
I don't think this is possible but I want to know for sure.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Sanjay was right.
That is the best you can do as of now.
Have a screen when the user has a chance of modifying the texts that are currently being displayed on the print. Let him save the texts and then trigger the smrtform, which would pick the updated texts instead of the old ones.
the function modules READ_TEXT, SAVE_TEXT may come in handy here.

Organizing entries in link list shall not be possible for standard users

how can I avoid that a standard user can organize the entries in the iView <i>Links List</i>?
That means the link 'Organize Entries' shall not be shown for them.
Only the content manager shall be able to organize.

I got the solution by myself:
In the KM repositories click on the context menue of /documents/links and choose 'Details'.
In the opened window choose Settings > Permissions and change the permission you like.

3.1 upgrade, no access for admin user

We have been using ARD3 Admin on a single machine, controlling 10 clients, all 10.4.8. Ran software update and got ARD3.1. Now the admin user appears to have been relegated to a guest user with no admin abilities.
All clients are managed by 10.4.8 server Open Directory and set up using Workgroup Manager. The admin user is in the ard_admin group as advised when ARD3 was originally installed.
Anyone seen this?

Hi Folks.
A few suggestions to stream-line this process of un-installing the old client...
1. If you don't want to type in the whole line of text to uninstall the old RDClient, open a terminal window, type sudo (and then a space), and then locate the file specified by the path, in a Finder window.
E.g. locate "/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app"
Then do a right-click on the file, and select 'Show Package Contents'.
Then explore the contents, go through to Resources, and locate the 'kickstart' file.
Drag the kickstart file, into your terminal window.
That will give you "sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart"
All you have to do then is type " -uninstall -files" on the end of that string. And press Return, and your password.
2. Now, to reinstall the old RD3.0 client...
Locate your original installer CD, and insert it.
Locate the ARD3 installer.
Select it (highlight it), and select 'Show Package Contents' via a right-click.
You can now examine the installer's contents, and locate the stand-alone Apple Remote Desktop 3 client installer, without having to re-install Apple Remote Desktop Admin.
Copy the Client 3.0 installer off the CD, and install it as required!

Is there a way for multiple users to connect to my home sharing with their iOS device to select music to stream to my A/V receiver jukebox style?

I have an A/V receiver that I can connect to and select music to stream over my network but I want to know if I have a party if it's possible for multiple users to have access on their own devices to my home shared music and select music to play like a jukebox.

I almost forgot that using folders can allow each folder to contain a song. I also recall touch tracks or one key play...

One Library for multiple users?

I did not realize that the library would be tied to a specific user on a computer. Is it possible for 2 users to share the same library? I created a library under my log in, but my wife can not see it when she logs in. If we can't have just one library for the whole computer how can I transfer all the cd's i imported to iTunes to my wife's log in?
