Upgrade iPod touch from 3.1.3 to 4.2

Hey everyone!
Sorry this is my first post here, and I'm not super computer savvy, so pardon me if I'm a little slow at figuring this out.
I'd like to update my ipod touch to the newest software, however, reading around the forums I heard it deletes the music off of the ipod.  The songs I have on the ipod are on two seperate computers, just because when I first got the ipod I was living with my parents, so there are songs on their computer that I don't have on my home computer.  Most of them are from CDs I own so I never bothered backing them up.
I was just wondering, if I update the ipod from my home computer, it will probably only put the songs back on that are on my home computer, right?  Would I be able to, after updateing the ipod, sync it again with my parents' computer and have the songs on there pop back on too (and go back to the playlists I had them on and all that)?  Or will I have to put them on again as new and sort them onto the playlists I would like them on?
Thanks for your help

Of course not.
Most never have any issue with any update.

  • I can't upgrade ipod touch from  ios4.0 to 4.0.1

hello, I have a 3G ipod touch with ios4.0, but I can not upgrade to 4.0.1.
I have the latest version of itunes (9.2.1.4) and when I do the update software tells me that the current version (4.0) is the latest available for my ipod.
    *what I can do?*

The iOS 4.0.1 Software is for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G.
The update improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display on.

  • How to upgrade ipod touch from ios3.1.3 to ios6.0.1

can someone tell me if there is a way to do this
itunes says my software is up to date at 3.1.3
and i want to upgrade to the latest ios software
    thankyou

You're welcome. To double check that you have a 1st gen unit, check the model number on the back. If it is A1213, it is indeed a 1st generation.

  • How do i upgrade my iPod touch from iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 5 or 6

Can anyone help me upgrade my iPod touch from iOS4.2 to the newest iOS possible? its model number MC086LL... I am new to iPods and the Mac/ Apple technology and have never attempted to upgrade the system.

Yours is a 2nd Gen... iOS 4.2.1 is as far as it can go.

  • HT4972 How do I upgrade my iPOD Touch from iOS 4.2.1 to 5?

How do I upgrade my iPOD Touch from iOS 4.2.1 to 5?  I've reset it, erased it, but still won't install iOS5.

You most likely have a 2G iPod touch which cannot go beyond iOS 4.2.1.  If it is an 8gb or 16 gb iPod without a camera, it is a 2G iPod.

  • Can I downgrade the software on my iPod touch from 4.2.1 to 4.1

I recently upgraded the software on my 4th generation iPod touch from 4.1 to 4.2.1. Since then I can not use it in my car, the iPod is marked as unreadable. I wish to go back to my previous version of 4.1. Is this possible? I have sync'ed my iPod multiple times since then so I don't think that I have a backup that I can go back to.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions that anybody could give.
    Thank you

I'm sort of in the same position. My iPod been playing up today, so plugged it into my work computer running Windows 7, updated the software thinking this would fix the problem, little did I realise iTunes would wipe all my songs off it - no warning of such a thing, AND I took a back-up. Restored the back up and still nothing.
So I plug the iPod into my personal laptop thats got all my music on, and now, because its on iOS 4.2, iTunes 9.2.1 on my Mac wont recognise the iPod. So, I go to update that version of iTunes to 10.1 - but 'cus I'm on Mac OS X 10.4.11 I cant have iTunes 10.1 - so basically I'm screwed.
I've been trawling the net for about 2 hours now trying to find ways of downgrading the software, and all I seem to be able to find out is that there is no 'legal' way of doing so.
I'm generally a big fan of Apple, but tonight has been an eye opener to their money spinning ways - the only option I can see right now, is to update my OS on my Mac - not looked yet, but I'm guessing not cheap.
Any help on getting my software back to 4.1 greatly appreciated as I've got a fairly recent iPod backup file on my Mac (which should work so long as I can get iTunes 9.2.1 to recognise the iPod).

  • Upgrading ipod touch 3 to iOS 6

Impossible upgrading ipod touch 3, from IOS 5.1.1 to IOS 6. Why ? Is it a decision of Apple ?
Note that I have also a ipod touch 4, and I had no problem to upgrading it to IOS 6.
    Tank you for your help.
    Christiane

The hardwae on the 3G iPod does not support iOS 6. The 4G marginally supports iOS 6.

  • If I get a new iPod touch from Amazon, will it have the new apps?

If I order a new iPod touch from Amazon.com today will it have the new apps? Or will Apple recgonize its new and download them for me for free? Just wondering because I don't want to buy a new one and then get stuck without the apps. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I have $300 in Amazon gift cards for buying an iPod touch, but found this statement on the product page:
"Does not ship with the latest announced new software applications for the Touch. Software upgrades are available via iTunes for $20"
The 16GB Touch sells for $358.99, which is 2% lower than it was the day before the Keynote. I have a feeling Amazon may have a glut of them before the announcement and will wait to see if Apple even sells them to Amazon for resell.

    Hi All,
After upgrading Ipod touch to latest OS 6.0.1, sound volume of songs is reduced by 30%-40%. Please advise

    Try:
    - Go to Settings>Sounds and see if a volume limit is set.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

My itunes account was set up under an email account that has been deleted. I started a new i tunes account but have the same device as with the old account. How do i keep my music thats on my ipod touch from being deleted whin i sync it to itunes after purchasing new music?

I have the same problem (deleted email account). I think I mistakenly set up an account when I was buying an Apple product online, not realizing that it would be the same ID as my iTunes.
What is the way to actually contact Apple?
I have been clicking around in circles for hours! Will I have to pay them to resolve this? I don't have any products still have applecare . . .

  • Hi...My IPod touch was recently stolen. I have an Itunes account..can I retreive the serial number of my IPod Touch from my Itunes account? If, so...how may I do this. If I have the serial number, the local police can check the serial numbers at pawn shop

Hi...My Ipod Touch was recently stolen. In order to help the local police deptartment I need to supply a seria number for the Ipod. Of course, I did not wrtie down the serial number, but I have used he device on my Itunes account. My question: Is there a way to retreive the serial nuber of my Ipod touch from my Itunes account? Thanks you all....

    Yes. See bold below
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

  • How do i deactivate an ipod touch from my iTunes

I know this should seem simple, but some how I am missing something.  I have tried searching and can't find anything on deactivating a device.
I just need to deactivate an old iPod touch from my iTunes account that I am selling on Craigslist.
    Help?

The consensus on the net would seem to be that only "Mac Computers" count as "Devices" for the purposes of Authorizing and Deauthorizing for iTunes purchases you are talking about. It is also implicit in the article mentioned below:
Furthermore, on the "Deathorize All" feature, from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420:
" Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/)."
I was NOT aware of that, and I just realized I'm at my stated limit of 5. Some people are saying that sometimes your mac may get counted twice (a bug somewhere in the chain). I didn't find a solution to this however, though I didn't look very hard since it is possible I reached the limit legitamitely.
So apparently we can have as many iPod/phone/pad devices playing our purchases but only 5 macs, foolishly referred to in this instance by Apple as devices. This is obviously wording they should correct, as it has clearly mislead many people, including the both of us!
roaminggnome (cute name), count against is exactly the phrase I used to search the net for an answer to this same question. A search that brought me here (same question, but yet unanswered), and other places. I'm surprised you couldn't  infer his/her meaning from context, you seem to strive for helpfulness (I see you're level 8). Some people use the phrase/s count toward(s) in the same manner, if that helps.

  • Is it possible to find the location on a lost ipod touch from my macbook?

Is it possible to locate a lost ipod touch from my Macbook?

Not unless you installed and activated fiond my iod on the ipod BEFORE it was lost AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi, THEN you may be able to get an approximate street address.
If it has facetime, then you could call it and listen for the ring.
