Upgrade problems from 10.2.8 to 10.4

I have recently inherited a iMac G4 flat panel computer running 10.2.8. I'd like to upgrade this to 10.4 (which I have on DVD from another Mac I have that I've recently upgraded to 10.5). Anyway, the problem is that the iMac does not have DVD drive. I've tried using an external DVD drive and also have tried installing using the firewire target mode installation from my powerbook... however, it's not happy! The installation gets to the 'select installation drive' page and then, before being able to select a drive, says that there have been installation problems and that it's unable to install. It gives me the option to read an installation log but this is meaningless to me. Can anyone offer any assistance? Do I need to upgrade to 10.3 prior to 10.4? All thoughts gratefully received.

Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.

Upgrading problem from win 7 to 8 T510

I have a T510 just reinstalled Win 7 using Lenovo recovery and now I am looking at upgrading to Win 8 to give a try.
I am lazy so I just unistalled softwares that are specifically pointed out by Windows 8 upgrade assistant during process, not ones that listed incompatible in the compatibility chart but those that actually prevents the upgrade assistant from proceeding. And apparently just uninstalling them is not enough.
The problem is I don't know exactly what softwares are causing proble. The great thinkpad utility softwares seem to become the biggest obstacles to upgrading. And those drivers. However I really don't want to unistall all of them and potentially found out that the upgrading still doesn't work. If I have to delete all lenovo softwares, I guess a clean install will be less troublesome.
So I am wondering if someone who successfully upgraded could give out the software or drivers that he or she uninstalled or share some other experience. I really appreciate that.
Btw, I wish either Microsoft or Lenovo will release a better upgrade assistant that will take care of uninstallation issue for the users. I know Lenovo has a list of softwares that need to be uninstalled. Is there any chance you can make a exe or bat file that unistall all of them at once? I think most thinkpad users like me still have the standard software package installed as the machine came in and it really save a lot of trouble.

I think the Windows 8 package you downloaded can be used to make a fresh install as well as upgrade from Windows 7.
If you run the Windows 8 package you downloaded it should give you the option to create a Media install. So grab a 4GB USB drive, run the Windows 8 package and select the option to Create Media Installation, or something to that description.
Select the USB drive and it will create a Bootable Windows 8 install.
You can use this, with your Key, to create a fresh install.
I'm dual booting, on the same drive, for now while I get used to WIndows 8.

Lightroom 6 standalone version upgrade problem from Hong Kong

I am Lightroom 5.7 standalone version user from Hong Kong, the license of 5.7 was bundled with my Leica ME
Lightroom 5.7 standalone version prompted me to upgrade to 6.0 and routed me to Adobe web site, but I can't pay the upgrade version due to incorrect country.
So I tried to get my Lightroom 6 standalone version from Hong Kong Adobe. I paid around HK$680 to get Lightroom 6 standalone upgrade version. There was no platform to select and only one option "multiple platform" in download form, so I select the ONLY option and started to download. However, I got a DMG file finally and I can't install it in my Windows 7 desktop ... What can I do now?
I am very frustrated in upgrading process from 5.7 to 6, it waste me two nights and still can get Lightroom 6 installed in my machine.

WLS server upgrading problems from 8.1 to 9.2

We had our application running on WLS 8.1.
Trying to upgrade to 9.2 using teh upgrade.sh script ( which uses 'java weblogic.Upgrade' inside ).
Even after it has reported that it has successfully upgraded the domain, when I login using the admin console, I see that the managed servrs are missing. So are all the resources ( JMS, connectionpool etc ) and all our EJBs.
Essentially we end up with a new admin server with nothing in it.
Has somebody else experienced this problem ?
If yes, are there any work arounds.

I'll make this simple for you, from one point of view. You've ported your application from one major release to another major release of the application server. Are you actually considering NOT testing some aspect of your application after that major a change? You should retest every aspect of your application.

Upgrade problem from OS Server 10.3 to 10.4

Hi everyone
I just upgraded the server from OS server 10.3 to 10.4 and updated to 10.4.6 now. I took fresh installation some clients with OS client 10.4 (updated to 10.4.6) . Those Macs with OS client 10.4.6 could not login, but mac with OS client 10.3.9 can login, no problem. I mean "login" is you have a username and password. Everyon knows what wrong it is? Thanks

Are the CDs for the "Dalmation" or "BB"? I don't think you can use them on both. What format are you using for the hard drive, Mac OS Standard or Mac OS Extended?

Oracle upgrade problem from 8.1.6.2.0 to 9.2.0.3.0

We have upgraded our database to version 9.2.0.3.0 from version 8.1.6.2.0. Everything is fine accept a proprietory encryption package that utilises the UTL_RAW package and stores working variables in a PL/SQL Record structure consisting of 6 RAW(4) fields.
When we execute the encryption procedure on version 9 of the database it returns a different response to when we execute the procedure on version 8. Any help greatly appreciated.

Boot camp upgrade problem from 3.0 to 3.1

I have a macbook pro 2.66 dual duo with 4 gig of ram and OS X 10.6 latest update. I started Boot Agent and created the parition and then installed windows 7. That would be I think boot camp 3.0
After I boot into Windows 7, which it does work, I downloaded and tried to do the 3.1 upgrade, but I get a stupid error that 3.0 is not installed.
I did put in the OS X disk while in windows 7 and installed Boot Camp there too.
I get this error when I try to run the BootCamp3.132-bit.exe
" The Boot Camp 3.1 Update requires Boot Camp 3.0 or greater. Please install Boot Camp 3.0 before proceeding with the install of the 3.1 Update. "
Any ideas ?

It really isnt quite that easy. I have had bootcamp 3.0 running for some time and it has been running ok but when I try to run the upgrade to bootcamp 3.1 I the application crashes and generates a windows error report stating that the BCUpdateInstaller quit working:

Upgrading Problem from 10.3.9 to 10.4

I have a G3 imac with a 400 mz processor. I just upgraded memory to 384MB in the hope that I could install 10.4 with the installation disk I used successfully on my iBook. But the computer will not accept the disk. Can anyone tell me why and/or suggest a work around (if any) for upgrading this computer. The problem is that flash and firefox no longer support 10.3.9 and we can't see videos and animations on this computer. I'd hae to have to buy a new computer to resolve an issue like this. Thanks.

Install disks that come with a Mac are machine-specific. Therefore your iBook install disk will not work with your G3.
In any case it would be a violation of the license to install the OS on more than one machine unless you but the family version.
Try getting the retail version of Tiger on eBay.

Upgrading problems from Lightroom 5 to 6 with double computers.

Hi! I Just upgraded my newly iMac retina 5K with Lightroom 6 from 5.
I want the same program on my Macbook pro when i am out filming.
I will only use one computer at the time and do not want to by the whole package again as I only use it on one computer at the time.

Erik, you can certainly install and activate Lightroom 6 on two machine, however, as per EULA you can use just one at a time.

Upgrade Problem from Final Cut Studio to Final Cut Studio 2

Hi everyone - any advice would be greatly appreciated. I own FCS HD and recently purchased the upgrade to FCS2. When installing FCS2, the installer says I need to upgrade several of the component applications. For example, I currently have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, Motion 2.0.1 and DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. However, I cannot find the upgrade applications on the Apple Website. For example, only 5.0.4 is available on the website and there were versions 5.1, etc. What do I need to do to get all my apps upgraded to FCS2?

Well, if you purchased the upgrade to FCS2, you need to install it from the install DVDs. When that is done, then you go to the SYSTEM UPDATE preference pane in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES application.
If you currently have FCP 5.0.4, Motion 2.0.1...then you haven't installed FCS2 yet.

Anyone having project upgrade problems from RoboHelp 10 to RoboHelp 11?

I'm receiving an error when attempting to upgrade a RoboHelp 10 project with seven content folders to RoboHelp 11. The error includes the first folder name but all the files in that folder appear in the RH 11 project (as do the files from the 7th content folder). I was contracted to train someone to maintain this and other help projects, and to get this project back in shape, but I'm stumped by the upgrade failure. RH Support suggested that I create a new project and copy files from the RH10 version. I'd rather not deal with all the broken links that would result. Does anyone have a better solution? Some background: This project was originally created with RH7 for Word and I understand it was upgraded from RH7 to RH10 with painful results. I'm pretty sure the developer did not upgrade from RH7 one version at a time. The last person assigned to maintain the project had no RH experience (the old "admin could do this" attitude, I suspect). Thanks for any help you can offer!

Is the project on a local drive or a network? Upgrades are best done locally.
If you recreate the folder structure in Rh11 and then import, you can ignore the broken links as you go. Once all is imported, they should have dissappeared.
Given the previous history, it does sound like a dodgy project. Can you open it in Rh10, delete the CPD and reopen it in Rh10 to create a new one, then close it and open in Rh11? Just an idea.
Do zip up their project as it is now so that there is an untainted copy to keep going back to.

This issue occurs because the Controller has an LDPE image installed, which is only needed in Russia where Data DTLS Payload Encryption is regulated by the Government. Cisco only recommends using this image if you reside in Russia. To resolve this issue and put the standard image on

Hi Ok best thing to do using your machines Recovery program is reset the machine back to factory settings , Try and do at least one round of Windows updates and you should be pushed the Upgrade again . Try the upgrade again and see how things go BUT if you get a error message again during the upgrade you have 2 choices , Again reset the machine to Win 7 and wait for a couple of months for Windows 10 to bed in and bugs being sorted out OR you could try and do a clean install using the Windows 10 media creation tool ( link below ) you will need a recordable dvd or flash stick ( at least 4GB in size )to create the ISO. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Checkurtech

Upgrading online from v10.2 to 10.4 problems...

I upgraded online from 10.2 to 10.4 but had been advised of the potential problems..
Since the upgrade which I did online (therefore no disk), I have had good days and bad, and the difference is confusing, i.e. the Mac decides what mood it is in - One day smooth sailing, the others, the mac can not even connect to www using safari/netscape etc.
The errors that appear on the screen every time I turn on since the upgrade are:
Faxstf toolbox
"could not load login file"
can't make every item of 'class cfol'
"library: Applications
Support: SmithMicro:faxsefX:startup"
of application "finder" info type
String. -1700
Norton AntiVirus Error
Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect could not continue.
Please reinstall NAV and restart.

Thanks for the comment. I've got full use of Tiger having done the upgrade and someone suggested I re-load the 10.4.4 combo which I have just done (started at 17:14 and completed at 19:19 - not bad!)
The only errors I get now are:
1. error - could not load login file
2. The application Diagnostic quit unexpectedly
3. Norton virus error (which I know about)
Everything else seems to be in order from the web download and upgrade..
