Upgrade to JSTL 1.2 and JSF 1.2

I created a Portal project in weblogic workspace studio 1.1 (weblogic portal 10.2). The portal was created with the default facets. I did not add JSF facet etc. Now all I am trying to do is upgrade to JSTL 1.2 from the add/remove project facets page. But I dont see 1.2 option in the dropdown. I can see the JSTL library in the C:\bea\wlserver_10.0\common\deployable-libraries folder. But for some freaking reason I am not able to select it. I thrn went to Window->Preferences->Workshop->Downloadable Libraries->JSTL library and tried adding the new JSTL 1.2 library but neither do I see JSTL 1.2 option in the drop down to download from BEA website and nor can I pick up that library from the existing JSTL installation.
Also having the same issue with JSF. I cannot pick JSF 1.2 (i downloaded the myfaces JSF 1.2 libraries from the apache myfaces site)
Its frustrating because I dont want to put a hack (dont want change configarations files etc). No idea why it has to this hard. Can someone please help.

I'm not sure I would call this a hack but this is what I ended up doing to up grade the JSF Facet...

• JSTL fmt:setBundle and JSF

I am converting the code and JSP pages I had from jsf ea4 to jsf rel 1
My bundle is Labels.properties (.properties file)
Now, my JSTL fmt:setBundle is not recognized . My jsp code is:
<%@ taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" %>
<%@ taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" %>
<%@ taglib prefix="fmt" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt" %>
<%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-faces"%>
<fmt:setBundle basename="Labels" scope="session" var="labelsBundle"/>
<f:view>
<s:html locale="true">

<fmt:message bundle="${labelsBundle}" key="form.heading.login"/>

<s:base/>

<stf:form action="/listProjectTasks.do" method="post" focus="loginID" >
<h:output_text value="#{labelsBundle.label.login.loginID}" />
I get the following exception:
There has been an unspecified exception (javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Illegal Model Reference in this context for expression 'labelsBundle.label.login.loginID'.)!
This used to work in ea4 when I had the key/bundle attributes.
How can I access my properties file at sessionScope using the #{} notation or else?
Thanks,
Gisella

Thanks for the response.
Now it works but I ran into a different problem.
In my .properties file I have escape characters like
and now with this JSF release 1, they show literally as, for example:
Login ID:&nbsp
So looking at the HTML generated:

Login ID:

instead of what it used to be

Login ID:

Also if I have the simple:
<h:output_text value=" " />
the text rendered is
instead of a non-breaking space.
Is there a way to represent these characters?
Other related question:
looking at the specs for f:loadBundle, it says that the resource bundle is loaded into a Map in the request
scope. I find this annoying, that all the time, for each request, this bundle data will be loaded into
a Map in the request scope. These are values needed at the session scope.
Is there a way to have this resource bundle loaded at the session scope as you can do it in JSTL?
The f:loadBundle seems to be missing the 'scope' attribute as the fmt:setBundle does.
Any suggestions?

• J2EE, JSTL and JSF questions

I am trying to learn J2EE/JSTL/JSF and have quite a few general questions. Any help on any of these is appreciated.
1) Is there a way, just by using J2EE/Java to "manipulate" an XML file. Not just parse and read it's data but actually add nodes to the file?
2) I've been reading quite a bit on JSTL and JSF recently. Is JSF supposed to be an alternative to Struts and JSTL an alternative to scriptlet coding?
3) I am also working on creating a message board but throwing around a couple of ways to implement it. Either (a) using a database to store posts and a JSP interface or (b) using an XML document to store postings. Which of these two seem best or is there a better option?
4) Is there an easy way to call Php from a Java program? I need to invoke a php program when a user clicks on a link on a JSP page I have.

1) The SDK provides JAXP (Java API for XML Processing) in javax.xml package.
2) I wouldn't call it 'alternative'.
3) Your choice. I'd to use a RDBMS. Less overhead, better suited, (much) more functions and better performance.
4) If that program is available on the web, then just invoke a HTTP request. If not, I'd rather to rewrite it to Java.

• Difference between JSTL and JSF

Hi
I am little bit confuse between JSTL and JSF. can one tell me what is difference between JSTL and JSF ?
Thanks & regards,
Ben

from suns site
The JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library (JSTL) encapsulates as simple tags the core functionality common to many Web applications. JSTL has support for common, structural tasks such as iteration and conditionals, tags for manipulating XML documents, internationalization tags, and SQL tags.
http://java.sun.com/javaee/javaserverfaces/overview.html

• Difference between JSP and JSF

What is the difference between JSP and JSF?
Is it necessary to learn JSP before starting with JSF?

JSP is a view technology providing a template to write plain HTML/CSS/JS in. JSP supports Java based taglibs to generate output and/or control the page flow dynamically. A well known example is JSTL. JSP also supports access to backend data with help of EL (Expression Language).
JSF is a component based MVC framework which provides taglibs for use in JSP, the JSF core tags in <f:xxx> and the JSF HTML tags in <h:xxx>. Those tags generate HTML output and are tied to JSF component tree in the server memory so that the FacesServlet can work on them to gather request parameters, validate/convert them, update the model values (javabean properties), invoke some actions (javabean action methods) and render the response.
You can use JSF on top of either JSP or Facelets. Facelets is another view technology. JSP is ancient and has its shortcomings when JSF comes into picture. Facelets is designed with JSF in mind and much more well-suited for it and provides great templating/composition capabilities to reuse specific groups of components without the need to wrap them in another custom component (so that you don't duplicate the same code over and over, e.g. label+input+message.

• Upgrade to JSTL 1.1.2

Hello,
I have upgraded my jstl and standard libs from 1.0.6 to 1.1.2 version.
Using 1.0.6 I had many "c_rt" tags into my jsp pages.
So I'd like to know if I can still use those tags, conserving the old c_rt include, or if I have to remove this include and replace all my c_rt tags with c tags (which would implie more work):
To be more explicit :
Can I have those includes (new one with old one):
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core_rt" prefix="c_rt"%>
or should I only have the new one :
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>
I think the the c_rt compatibility is assumed in 1.1.2 version but I'd like to have a confirmation from you.
Thank you for your answers.

From my understanding of the system it WILL work unchanged.
But to my mind it would be better if you replaced all the c_rt tags with c tags, because under JSTL1.1 the standard tag accepts both ${expr} and <%= expr %>
Surely it is relatively easy to do with a global search and replace?

• I am trying to use java file as Model layer and jsf as presentation layer

I am trying to use java file as Model layer and jsf as presentation layer and need some help
I successfully get the value of h:outputText from java file by doing simple binding operation but I am facing problems when I am trying to fill h:dataTable
I create java file
package oracle.model;
import java.sql.;*
import java.util.;*
*public class TableBean {*
Connection con ;
Statement ps;
ResultSet rs;
private List perInfoAll = new ArrayList();
*public List getperInfoAll() {*
perInfoAll.add(0,new perInfo("name","username","blablabla"));
return perInfoAll;
*public class perInfo {*
String uname;
String firstName;
String lastName;
*public perInfo(String firstName,String lastName,String uname) {*
this.uname = uname;
this.firstName = firstName;
this.lastName = lastName;
*public String getUname() {*
return uname;
*public String getFirstName() {*
return firstName;
*public String getLastName() {*
return lastName;
right click on the file and choose 'create data control'
then i wrote the jsf file:

• How to integrate Single Sign-On and JSF?

Hi all,
We are going to develop a web application using Oracle technologies, including ADF and JSF.
But we´ll need to secure our website using Oracle Identity Manager (Single Sign-On). I am having difficulties to find any resource explaining how to do that.
Also, the IM (SSO) will run on a Oracle AS instance and our web app (ADF+JSF) will run on a separete OC4J instance, due to ADF version. Is this a problem?
Thanks

We too are in the process of implementing iStore with SSO features.
And if you believe me it seems to me as nightmare.
In our scenerio we are intgrating this SSO with Third party access control too (AD and Siteminder). I would request you to please respond me on the following mail id , so we can share our experince which will help us in our implementation

regards and thanks in advance

• Facelets and jsf-extensions problem.

I'm fairly certain I've run into a problem between facelets and jsf-extensions. I'm working with JSF 1.2 RI, Woodstock, Facelets 1.1.13, on Tomcat 6.
When trying to get Woodstock autoValidation to work I get a javascript error the "I has no properties". The error occurs in the com_sun_faces_ajax.js file in the jsf-extensions-dynamic-faces-0.1.jar (I've used both the RC4 and a build today ,10/18/07 from source with the same results). Here is the code snippet where it happens (with my comment).
var I = G.getElementsByTagName("components")[0];
var C = I.getElementsByTagName("render");
for(var F = 0; F < C.length; F++) {
In the second line there it looks like the variable I is null, but based on the post response below I don't know why.
The response from the post looks like this:
<partial-response><components><render id="PayableForm:vendorGci"><markup>{"valid":true,"id":"PayableForm:vendorGci"}</markup></render></components>
However the server side code (validation method) never gets executed. I'm willing to do some digging and debug work, but I'd need to be pointed in the right direction.
The following is more potentially useful code snippets.
Here is the textField code:
<w:form id="PayableForm">
<w:textField style="display:none;" />
<w:message for="vendorGci" />
<w:label id="vendorGciLabel" for="vendorGci" text="Vendor: " />
<w:textField id="vendorGci" autoValidate="true"
text="${vendorBean.searchGci}" maxlength="8" required="true"
validatorExpression="#{ vendorBean.validateVendor}" />
Here is the javascript in the page (the init function is called from the body: onLoad="setTimeout('init();', 0);" , this does happen):
<w:script type="text/javascript">
function VendorListener(){
function VendorNotify(props){
alert("VendorNotify called!"); <--------------- I never see this alert message
if ( props.id != "PayableForm:vendorGci") { return; }
var field = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorGciLabel");
field.setProps({
valid: props.valid
VendorListener.prototype.notify = VendorNotify;
function initAccountRows(){
var table = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorAccountTable");
table.initAllRows();
function init(){
initAccountRows();
var listener = new VendorListener();
dojo.subscribe(
webui.suntheme.widget.textField.event.validation.endTopic ,
listener, listener.notify);
Here is the validator method. It currently doesn't do anything, just trying to get something to work. I never see the output, and I never hit the breakpoint in the method.
public void validateVendor(FacesContext context, UIComponent comp, Object value){
System.out.println("**********************************");
System.out.println("validateVendor called");
System.out.println(value);
System.out.println("**********************************");
}

Actually I don't need a global variable. I need to refer in my included template the actual backing bean used in the current page. As all my backing bean extends a abstract class I could bind my component to a property of the current backing bean, no matters which one. Just like a polymorphic call but without the parameter. Let's imagine I could get this object of the facesContext object I would be able to do:
<rich:datascroller renderIfSinglePage="false" align="right" for="listagem" maxPages="12" fastStep="10"
pageIndexVar="pageIndex" pagesVar="pages" stepControls="show" fastControls="hide" boundaryControls="show"
inactiveStyleClass="paginacaoInativa" selectedStyleClass="paginacaoSelecionada"
styleClass="paginacao" tableStyleClass="paginacaoTabela"
binding="#{facesContext.currentBackingbean.formDataScroller}" id="paginacao">
Instead of pass the backing bean to the ui:param of this template... Dou you get the point?

• Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices.

Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core (4cores)) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices. Does this need to be done through the Graphics card expansion or a additional card to be inserted?

No. There is no way to upgrade any Mac Pro older then the cylindrical 2013 Mac Pro to ThunderBolt.
The requirements of Thunderbolt require a totally redesigned motherboard and chip set rather any plugin cards. These motherboard were never developed for older Mac Pros.

• Hardware Upgrade Advice for HD editing and CS4

Dear friends,
I realize that there are many posts on hardware requirements, recommendations, etc... Perhaps this is my problem, there is too much info.
Here is my scenario and I would love some expert advice.
What I Have:
I have been editing my home movies since Premiere 6.5 and have been using CS3 for the past couple of years.
My current PC is an HP 9100t which has a ...
Quad Core 6600 2.4GHz processor
3GB RAM (max RAM is 8GB according to the stats for the motherboard)
500 GB System Drive
I recently added a 1.5 TB SATA Seagate Barracuda drive
Also have external 1TB WD connected via USB
Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit) OS
What I Just Got:
Recently purchased a Sony HDR-XR 500v and just love the HD picture quality. But now I want to edit the AVCHD files and thus upgrade to CS4
What I'd like to Know:
I'm tired of buying a new PC every couple of years, this machine is 16 months old and runs just fine.
Do you think I can upgrade the processor, add RAM and move to Windows 7 64-bit and happily edit my HD movies?
Or, do I need to once again try and convince my wife to let me buy a new PC
My Upgrade thoughts: I could Buy these items...
Intel Quad Core 9600 processor 2.8Ghz (the HP motherboard supports the Intel Yorkfield processors)
Max out the RAM at 8GB
Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (I actually pre-ordered this for $49 a few weeks ago)
and of course upgrade to Premiere CS4
DO you think a few hundred dollars spent on upgrades will extend my editing life for another year or two?
Thanks so much!
Paul

but I was surprised to see you comment that it's pointless to upconvert video before working on it.
It can easily be you misunderstood my intention. It is somewhat like people often thinking that converting from a compressed format to a lossless format will restore the original quality. That is nonsense, because what has been thrown away during compression, can never be regained by uncompressing. That is an expectation similar to orange juice being uncompressed will restore the original oranges.
My intention with my remark was to emphasize that going from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 will not restore original data or improve the image, only increase storage requirements.
But clearly that is not what you meant. You are talking about chroma keying and similar being best done on 4:2:2 or even better on 4:4:4 material. You are completely correct, but keep in mind, and that is what I tried to convey, is that starting out from 4:2:0 and upconverting to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 will not restore original quality, it will still be (slightly less than) the 4:2:0 quality, because of the rounding errors in the algorithms. You will increase storage space significantly by this upconverting, but if you want to do any chroma keying, the quality of the keys will be significantly better than when performed on 4:2:0 material and the loss when again converting to 4:2:0 for final delivery will be significantly less than had you used chroma keys on 4:2:0 material.
I hope this explains it somewhat.
