Upgraded my ipod to 5th gen but now have exclamation marks

My old ipod's hard disk was having problems. Got a new ipod, 5th gen with video, and now I have exclaimation marks next to all of my library songs except three. All songs will not copy, except those three. I have tried restoring my new ipod and tried the automatic copy to ipod, didn't work. Restored again and tried manually copying, still the exclamation marks. What is the problem? I didn't change anything other than connecting my new ipod.
I can't even play the songs on my computer. How can I get them back? What do I do now?
Please help.

THANK YOU! I was able to find my files. I don't know why I didn't think about searching for them before. Thank you! Turns out my sister moved the folder on me. ARGH!
I have another question that I'm hoping you can help with. After updating my ipod, I find that in itunes, when my ipod is attached in the song window I have a picture of a lock at the bottom (by my music space usage) and my songs are greyed out. I can play them on my ipod. But, in itunes I cannot copy/add/delete/edit to my ipod. Just wondering if you can help or if I should post a different message.
Thank you so much!

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you will have to get them from where you originally got them

    That happens sometimes:
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Made HDD, Battery and case upgrades to my ipod video 5th Gen and now I am told "Connect to your computer.  Use iTunes to restore."

I have a 5th Gen iPod Video that I have had many years now.  It has worked faithfully until about 2 weeks ago and the HDD totally died on me.
So I decided to upgrade from a 30 to 60 gb HDD, replaced the battery for the appropriate HDD and bought a new back shell for the unit.  I made incremental installations as parts arrived.  First the HDD itself and the next day the battery.  Both went in with no problem and I have been running them in a jerry rigged case (basically the 30gb back case has been taped together to make sure it was going to work OK.  I have been taking it to work with absolutely no issues, great response and great battery life.  Synching is fabulous.
Here is the issue, I hope this makes sense...
Today I received my 60 GB silver back cover and moved all of my parts over.  It seems to fit fine.  Headphone jack is working fine.  However, now the hold button is unresponsive (which is not a big loss to me but still just so you know).  I can play music and I can sync.  However, if I restart the unit, or I try synching a second time, I get screen saying "Connect to your computer.  Use iTunes to restore."  It does not matter if I snap it shut or leave the case loose, this happens.
I have this error until I open my case up again and do nothing else.  At that time, the error goes away, and my ipod is fine again.  Then, the screen comes back after restarting to a normal boot.  But, if I sync or restart without doing anything else, we go through the motions again until I open the case back up.
I have disconnected the battery as well as the HDD, but still have the problem.  I have also disconnected the cable coming from the hold button/earphone jack to the M/B,
Has anyone else ever experienced this issue or have any suggestions.

Shouldn't you contact the vendor or person who sold the back cover?  At the very least, it has a Hold switch that doesn't work.
This web site has repair guides
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
and they call it "Headphone Jack & Hold Switch"
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod+5th+Generation+%28Video%29+Headphone+Jack+%26+H old+Switch+Replacement/604
Under Relevant Parts, they seem to list separate parts for the thick and thin back cover.
On a side note, another way to fix your iPod is to use a compact flash card instead of a hard drive.  This web page has details
    http://www.instructables.com/id/Convert-your-5th-Gen-iPod-Video-to-use-Flash-Mem or/
Then, you can use your existing thin profile back cover that works.  I replaced the hard drive in my 4th gen iPod with a CF card.  Currently, it is only 8GB, but with lower prices these days, I may soon upgrade it with a 64GB CF card.  But it works great with the 8GB card.  The iPod is noticeably lighter.  There is no hard drive spin-up delay.  The battery lasts longer per charge.  And it is no doubt more shock-resistant.

  • I recently upgraded my iPod touch 5th gen to iOS 7.1, and now whenever I open up my gamecenter, the "friends" and "games" tab never stop loading, and it also won't log in when I play games that use gamecenter. What can I do to fix this issue?

I have already tried turning the power off and back on, holding the home and power button for ten seconds and shutting it off that way, and disconnecting from the wifi. None if those fixed the problem. However, resetting all of the settings did actually fix this issue, but then when I turn the ipod off and on again the issue is back. I don't want to have to keep resetting the settings on a daily basis, so what else can I do to fix this bug? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • I just  bought an ipod touch 5th gen but i cant download apps. The icon appears but then it goes away. What do I do?

    k

Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

  • IPod Touch (5th Gen) and iOS 6.0.1 Update

I'm having some problems with upgrading my iPod Touch (5th Gen) to iOS 6.0.1.
The iPod is currently stuck in the mode where it shows the connect to iTunes symbol. When I connect to it to iTunes on my MacBook Pro, I am asked to 'Restore and Update' which I click. The update file downloads, but as soon as it completes, it disappears and never installs. I then have no choice but to start again which results in exactly the same problem. I don't seem to be able to restore the iPod without downloading the latest software.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks.

  • IPod touch 5th gen with OS X 10.5.8

I've recently bought an iPod touch 5th gen but am struggling to get it to sync with my macbook pro, OS X 10.5.8.
I've done some digging around and it seems I will need to upgrade to 10.6.8 in order to sync it. However, I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, and then to Mountain Lion.
It just seems a bit convoluted and I wanted to check I've got this right, before purchasing 2 operating systems just to be able to sync my iPod!!

All you need is Snow Leopard, which is 10.6.8. That and later OSXs require A Mac with an Intel processor. A Mac with a Power PC processor (G4 and G5) can only go to 10.5.8.

  • IPod Touch 5th gen. wi-fi issues

I recently purchased an iPod touch 5th gen. I have had no issues except with he wi-if connection. Every time I hit the sleep button, or it times out, the wi-fi disconnects. Every time I want to use my iPod, I wake it back up, and sometimes the wi-if will auto connect, but most times I have to re connect manually. I have searched and haven't found anything too helpful. I went to the apple store near me, and they had no idea what was happening. I was wondering if this is some sort of setting? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have this problem with all networks or only your network? If only your network that points to a problem with your network.
Have you powered off and then back on your router?

  • Ipod Touch 5th Gen - Music videos contained in playlists don't display in full screen mode

I am using an Ipod Touch 5th Gen. I have music videos contained in different playlist that are utilized for a class where they are displayed on a large screen through a projector. When I playback the videos through the playlists, they don't appear in full screen mode. I didn't experience this issue with previous versions of the Touch. If I access the videos individually through the video icon, they display correctly.
