Upgrading Business Objects Planning & Reporting 11.10.1325.0

We need to upgrade our Business Objects Planning from our current version 11.10 to 11.5x due to the Microsoft Office Service pack 3. Does anybody have any documentation or information regarding things to look out for, upgrade procedures, etc.
On another note, we currently running Planning 11.10 on a Sql server 2000 sp4 back-end. Does anybody know if it's ok to simply upgrade this to Sql Server 2005 with out any changes? Any documentation, notes, etc are greatly appreciated also. Thanks!

Business Objects Planning Database Upgrade

I have attempting to upgrade Business Objects Planning from version 11.2 to 11.6. The upgrade appears to run successfully, however, when I attempt to start the Planning Application Services, the service fails to start up, stating the current DB version is less than the working version. I have spoken to our consultant, who stated he knew nothing of any changes that must be made to the database. The first portion of the error log is copied below. I have tried an incremental step of upgrading from 11.2 to 11.5 and have received the same error. What must I do to configure the database either before or after the upgrade?
Application is set up as single server.
OS is windows server 2003
Database is Oracle 10.2.0.4.
Database user is SRCAdmin, and is an owner of the db.

you can also look into 3rd party tools such as rpt inspector which may be able to do this.

Interface Settings Error, Business Objects Planning, Templates

Hello all,
I am getting an error in interface settings whenever I have tried to run a template.
I have searched these forums and wikis and been googling for days and have not found anything even remotely relevant.
This company is using Business Objects Planning, version 11.10.1325.0
Platform is Windows Server 2003 SP2. Excel version 11.0
They have been using BOP for two years. They have been manually copying actuals data (i.e. historic data) into the template-derived workbooks for budget and forecast and them saving them for users. The consultants did not leave them with templates that loaded historic data from the SQL server, nor did the consultants even tell them about write-back (save-to-database) reports (which are what I am used to building).
In the short term I have been asked to get their templates working properly.
A week ago I logged a request with the consultants (SAP gold partners) but have yet to hear back.
We have tried starting at the basics and building a very simple template that follows the examples given in the users guide.
(i.e. the Planning Professional Edition Plan Administrators Guide, note that the consultants did not leave copies of the guides that matched the BOP version, so I downloaded the correct editions for this installation, but the basics are the same.)
So I have a template that has account ("ACC" for this organisation, "ACCT" in the Guide) in cell A1.
Row 1 then contains the Other Column to write back to in cell E1 (ESourcePY for this test), and Row 1 is even coloured pastel green.
Row 2 is coloured pastel yellow just like in the Guide and contains "Control Row for Interface" in cell B2 and the Time Series to read from in cell E2 - SSANYB_TOT, which basically means NYB_TOT for this company.
Rows 3 - 6 are coloured purple and cell B3 holds "Summary Print control Row". I have tried "SRCPrintControl" in cell H3 and I have tried without it. I have tried "Monthly Print Control Row" in B4 and I have tried without it (and SRCPrintControl in H4).
And then I have a number of natural accounts in cells A21:A24, I have tried using just one ACC and I have tried them on different lines, but in the end I put them on the same line as the ones in the Guide start at.
I have also tried with and without "HDR" in the cells in the H column.
My Settings sheet has been exactly as the one in the Guide, and I have tried with only a Summary in the Printing section, deleting the Monthly stuff, I have also tried changing the Border Columns and Rows but I am not too sure that is relevant.
The relevant sheet in the Interface Setting book is exactly as the one in the Guide but using the local Time Series and Target Sheet Name etc., although I have tried using the write-back target (ESourcePY) Other Column in the Target Column Name instead of SSANYB_TOT as shown in the Guide.
There is one difference; this organisation is not using Standard Planning Methodologies (no client I have seen uses them) and so that cell (B11) is empty.
But all I ever get, no matter how many variations or modification I try is :
"Error in interface settings of Default Interface interface on control row or column in temp1 sheet. Do you want to continue?"
Can anybody please shed some light on what is missing?

But a month and no answer means that obviously no-one on this planet, including the SAP help desk, knows the answer.
Business Objects used to have a really good help desk based in Singapore. Yeah, their consultant partners in Australia were not very good, but the help desk was very helpful and proactive.
Now that SAP has acquired the product the 'gold partners' are still useless but the SAP help desk is just a joke. The help 'portal' is just a door to a void, the responses are very tardy, and the majority of the points they raise have already been answered by me in previous communications to the same staffer. Obviously they don't read your replies.
I have already advised one client away from purchasing this product and I cannot see how in good conscience I could ever recommend BOP (or SAP) to any client in the future. Cognos is good, but IBM has no mainframe finance package; so I think that Oracle and Hyperion Planning are probably going to be the way of the future now.

Converting crystal reports 10 to Business Objects XI reports

Hi All I am very new to Business Objects XI R2, I have two doubts if any one knows please give reply to me so that it will be helpful for me.First is :Now I am working for a project called Converting Reports which was created by Crystal Reports 10 TO Business Objects XI reports.Is there any specific way for converting .rpt(Crystal Reports) to .rep (Business Objects) or I have to recreate in Business Objects XI. and Second is: Is it possible, Scheduling BO XI report in java based interface, I heard that it is possible but I don't know how?Please give me, How it is possible? you will need access to the CMS DB and FRS from CE10 in order to migrate to XI 3.x, typically this is accomplished via network. If you can restore them to the same computer a side by side (install CE10 and XI 3.x on the same server) may work as well.

Basically, there is no difference. Till the version 7.0, it was called business planning and consolidation. From 7.5 ,its called business objects planning and consolidation.

BUSINESS OBJECTS- Crystal Reports-based out of Function module

We are right now creating BUSINESS OBJECTS- Crystal Reports. Our client requirement is to create this report based out of u201CFunction moduleu201D.
With the current parameters settings at the Crystal Reports designer we are able to create the report based on View and Linking various table. The reports get executed and fetch data. But when we create a report based out of FM, the report returns nothing. The screen stays in u201CNot responding stageu201D and terminates after without any message/pop-up.
Can anyone please help us resolving this? Are there any parameters/settings to be done which we are missing?

Not much info to go on. What version of Cr are you using?
What database and version are you using?
How are you connecting to the database, ODBC, OLE DB or native driver?
Have you turned tracing on the server to what SQL is being passed from CR?
Have you copied the SQL from Show SQL in the Designer and paste that into a DB SQL test tool to verify you should be getting data back and that you are not returning so much data it's going to take a week to get?
Not responding simply means CR is waiting for data, try being patient and see if you ever get data or add a Record Selection formula so you only get a few rows of data.
Try reporting off of a single table itself to verify it works and you have permission to run the SQL.

Business Objects XI report timeout

Hi All,
I'm running a quite simple environment:
Windows 2003 R2 SP2
IIS 6
Oracle Database (remote on Linux but same subnet)
Business Objects Server XI R1 SP3.
I'm having an issue with reports getting time out errors after 2 minutes before they have had a chance to complete.
What I want to do is increase the setting that lets the report run before it errors. I can monitor my database and still see SQL being passed when the 2 minute limit is reached.
I have changed the 'Default Website Properties' Connection Timeout setting in IIS to 500 seconds and restarted, this has not helped the problem. I have looked through all the settings under Servers in the CMC, I can't see the right one. I'm not asking for the connecting setting before I need to log back in, I need the setting that will let a report run for 10 minutes before it errors.
If I run a problem report via Schedule, it completes but is very close to 2 minutes. If I run it On Demand, it times out after 2 minutes, but I can still see the query selecting data then gets terminated.

I had the same problem on a 12 mo cost report that produced 95,000 records and read close to 400,000. Could only run 4 months.
Changed the "Database Records Read When Previewing or Refreshing" parameter to 0 (unlimited) in CrystalReportsProcessingServer
and changed the "Maximum Cache Size (KB)" parameter in CrystalReportsCacheServer from 250,000 to 500,000 - then it would run.
Sorry, wrong thread I think - I was getting "max processing time or max records limit reached" error message but I think my problem was max records rather than timeouts.

i want to call bussiness object method in my report as that method will give me the data which i need to display in my report. But i dont know how to call business object it's method in ABAP report and how to pass parameters to it.

Business Objects Crystal Reports with Clarity - anyone on here use is?

we are in the process of upgrading our Clarity system to version 8.1.1 - which has gone away from Actuate to support Crystal Reports instead.
Is anyone here using Crystal Reports with Actuate already?
I was looking into upgrading from CR XI to CR 2008 - but wondered if the extra functionality is worth the upgrade cost.
They say that users can interact with the data by sorting/filtering and re-formatting without re-querying the database - and there is a parameter panel that allows new parameters to be added to the 'saved' data..
i was wondering if those features are available when it is used with Clarity..

Business Objects Webi Report looks at the wrong universe

Hi,
Problem: A Webi Report that is believed to be running off Universe A in Dev A Environment no longer works because for an unknown reason it is trying to run off Universe A (same name different version) in Dev B Environment where most of the objects do not exist.
Universe A has not been changed in either Environments. Reports were working yesterday but not today (reports were not changed too).
Any ideas what may have caused this? The only way we were able to find out that it was using the wrong universe was when we checked the Universe in the properties of the Query.

Issue in using BIAccelerator with Business Objects WebIntelligence report

Hi,
I am trying to improve performance of Webi Reports on BW queries (with huge data load) with BI Accelerator.
When I run one BW query (with millions of records) in Bex 7, am getting data within no time when I used BIA.
When I run Webi report on universe which is developed on same BW query, report is running for long hours and finally giving message "No data to return Query1".
Am not sure whether my report query is hitting BIA from WebI or not .
Can we use BIA with WebI reports or not (to increase performance)?
Any help on this please.

Hi Dhana,
Webi - like any tool that is based on BEx queries - will use BIA. However, for Webi the data has to be passed through the MDX interface which slows things down. Please make sure you apply all notes listed in SAP note <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1142664">1142664 MDX: Composite SAP note about performance improvements</a>.

Converting Business Objects (BO) reports to OBIEE

I am attempting to convert BO reports... I have a Request which determines a subset of all Customer Numbers based on certain criteria. I would then like to have a LEFT JOIN from all customers (with some filters applied) to this subset and have a column in the result Request that has a 'yes' for all accounts that are part of the subset, and 'no' for all the rest. This was achieved with user variables in BO, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this in OBIEE.
I tried the "Combining with Similar Request" and maybe I don't fully understand it, but it seems overly restrictive; I can't add a column that is in one of the Requests, but not in the other.
I hope this makes sense. I would appreciate any help.

Let's say Cust 1 has acct. types A, B, and C. Each type is recognized by an ACCT_TYPE_CODE. Cust 2 has Acct. types A, C, D, E, cust 3 has acct. types A, B, and F, and cust 4 has acct. types C, D.
I am trying to run a report of all custs with acct. type A and if the customer also has acct. type B, to display this in a column of the report with a 'Yes' and no otherwise.
The results should look like:
Customer B?
Cust 1 'Yes'
Cust 2 'No'
Cust 3 'Yes'
To make this work, I need two filters: one to filter all acct. types so only customers with acct. type A show up, and another (actually a formula) to look at all the other acct. types the customer may have and indicate a 'yes' or 'no' if that customer has acct. type B.
So far, I either get too little info (filter restricts too much) or too much info (customers with other than acct. type A show up on the report).

When a crystal report output of 518 pages (containing CROSS-TABS), exporting to EXCEL, it is running upto 96 - 98 % and getting the above error and the following message :

How do I change the "Owner" of my Business Objects Reports

Here is my problem.
When we upgrade Business Objects we 'convert' a large number of reports to the BO XI rel2 version of the reports. During this convertion process all the reports were switched to be 'owned' by usercode 'Administrator'. Our users are now wanting to move/change/delete these reports and they can't because they are not the owner.
So we need to switch this owner. Problem is the only way we can find to do this is to copy the report to a new name and delete the old one. This is very time consuming. Also many of our users are not priviledged to delete reports that they don't own. Therefore our administrators are the only ones that can do the delete step.
It seems like I should be able to logon to the system as 'Administrator' and change the owner of the reports (similiar to doing a chown command in Unix) to whoever I want. There however doesn't appear to be a way to do that in Infoview or the Central Management Consule.
Is there a simple easy way to do this?? I have thousands of report to change.
