Upload file to a column on a table

Hello
I have a form with 5 items:
- ID - hidden
- Company - select list
- Product - select list
- date-created - hidden
- user-created - hidden
- file - file browser.
What i need is to upload a file (pdf) and save all the information (file + data in items) to table portal_gar_cvo.
How can i do this? I've tried to implement some solutions i read but wasn't successful...
Also, on table portal_gar_cvo, besides id, company, product, date-created and user_created, which datatype should column "file" have?
I thank in advance all the replies!

Hi,
You should check out the APEX's document on [How to Upload and Download Files in an Application|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e13363/up_dn_files.htm#CJAHDJDA] . It contains all needed information. It also includes a section to store document in a custom table (your own table - portal_gar_cvo).
The data type of "file" column is BLOB.

  • Logic to upload file with dynamic columns

    hi
    in my requirement i hav given to add logic to upload file with dynamic columns so that this upload program can be reused.
    this way the program is flexible, irrespective of the number of columns in the file.
    can any one explain this?
    and let me know what actually i hav to do.

    Check the program and the dynamic column is in the col_pos internal table and in the routines get_structure onwards.

  • How to read/write .CSV file into CLOB column in a table of Oracle 10g

    I have a requirement which is nothing but a table has two column
    create table emp_data (empid number, report clob)
    Here REPORT column is CLOB data type which used to load the data from the .csv file.
    The requirement here is
    1) How to load data from .CSV file into CLOB column along with empid using DBMS_lob utility
    2) How to read report columns which should return all the columns present in the .CSV file (dynamically because every csv file may have different number of columns) along with the primariy key empid).
    eg: empid report_field1 report_field2
    1 x y
    Any help would be appreciated.

    If I understand you right, you want each row in your table to contain an emp_id and the complete text of a multi-record .csv file.
    It's not clear how you relate emp_id to the appropriate file to be read. Is the emp_id stored in the csv file?
    To read the file, you can use functions from [UTL_FILE|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/u_file.htm#BABGGEDF] (as long as the file is in a directory accessible to the Oracle server):
    declare
        lt_report_clob CLOB;
        l_max_line_length integer := 1024;   -- set as high as the longest line in your file
        l_infile UTL_FILE.file_type;
        l_buffer varchar2(1024);
        l_emp_id report_table.emp_id%type := 123; -- not clear where emp_id comes from
        l_filename varchar2(200) := 'my_file_name.csv';   -- get this from somewhere
    begin
       -- open the file; we assume an Oracle directory has already been created
        l_infile := utl_file.fopen('CSV_DIRECTORY', l_filename, 'r', l_max_line_length);
        -- initialise the empty clob
        dbms_lob.createtemporary(lt_report_clob, TRUE, DBMS_LOB.session);
        loop
          begin
             utl_file.get_line(l_infile, l_buffer);
             dbms_lob.append(lt_report_clob, l_buffer);
          exception
             when no_data_found then
                 exit;
          end;
        end loop;
        insert into report_table (emp_id, report)
        values (l_emp_id, lt_report_clob);
        -- free the temporary lob
        dbms_lob.freetemporary(lt_report_clob);
       -- close the file
       UTL_FILE.fclose(l_infile);
    end;This simple line-by-line approach is easy to understand, and gives you an opportunity (if you want) to take each line in the file and transform it (for example, you could transform it into a nested table, or into XML). However it can be rather slow if there are many records in the csv file - the lob_append operation is not particularly efficient. I was able to improve the efficiency by caching the lines in a VARCHAR2 up to a maximum cache size, and only then appending to the LOB - see [three posts on my blog|http://preferisco.blogspot.com/search/label/lob].
    There is at least one other possibility:
    - you could use [DBMS_LOB.loadclobfromfile|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_lob.htm#i998978]. I've not tried this before myself, but I think the procedure is described [here in the 9i docs|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96591/adl12bfl.htm#879711]. This is likely to be faster than UTL_FILE (because it is all happening in the underlying DBMS_LOB package, possibly in a native way).
    That's all for now. I haven't yet answered your question on how to report data back out of the CLOB. I would like to know how you associate employees with files; what happens if there is > 1 file per employee, etc.

  • Need suggestion in uploading dynamic excel file to corresponding columns of internal table

    Hi Friends,
    I have an excel file which doesn't have standard template. Just the users will key in their header (in row1 ) and followed by item details in excel and upload to internal table. Now by doing some internal developments in program I need to place the values in corresponding fields.
    Let me explain with some examples.
    1. I have an internal table
    data : begin of itab occurs 0,
                       f1,
                       f2,
                       f3,
                       f4,
                       f5,
              end of itab.
    2. I have excel file as below
    3 . Now i need to fill my internal table itab as below
    Need to be placed in corresponding fields.
    4. When I used GUI_UPLOAD FM it updates internal table as
    Please give me suggestion on how to achieve it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kumar,
    use a temporary table to get excel values and then parse them to a second table with the format you want.
    This is pretty basic.

    Edgar

  • Upload file with dynamic columns

    Hi,
    My requirement is, I have to upload a file with number of columns being dynamic.
    My Input file column number can vary based on the input data. For one entry it can have 10 columns of input and for another entry it can have just 5. First few columns are common for all entries and then from one particular column the next columns can vary based on the input data.
    I have come across FM 'ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE' , but for this FM we have to pass the scope of the excel, like the column and row details which is not the required thing in my case.
    Please let me know as to how to achieve the requirement of uploading a file with he number of columns varying.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dedeepya Thota

    Hi,
    Your saying in you excel sheet your entering the details.
    As you said, Suppose your data is 5 columns. And each entry various
    there are 3 records in excel sheet
    one entry contains 5 columns of data
    second entry contains only 2 columns of data
    third entry contains 4 columns of data
    As shown below
    Column1   Column2   Column3  Column4  Column5
      100       AA      AA1         AA2        AA3
      200       BB       BB2
      300       CC       CC2           CC3
    Now your excel sheet contains data as shown above.
    When you upload this file to your internal table 3 entries will be uploaded and every column contains according to that column value in itab.
    In this case record second entry column3 contains value BB2 will store in itab-column3, But as per our requirement it should store in itab-column4. Same will happen for third entry also.
    In above case you report will not work.
    So wat you have to do is, definatly we know there is some maximum colums in entries.
    You fix for that maximum no.columns in excel and declare your itab.
    In excel you maintian the values according to the columns value which has to maintian.
    For example like below.
    Column1   Column2   Column3  Column4  Column5
      100        AA       AA1         AA2        AA3
      200        BB                        BB2
      300        CC                        CC2        CC3
    If some columns are not having data that will be empty. It wont be any problem. Just you have to maintain your template for data
    and according to your template you have declare itab in your report.
    Regards,
    Shankar.

    procedure loadit( inFileName varchar(100) ) is
    fh UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    line long;
    vData long;
    begin
    fh := UTL_FILE.FOPEN( inFileName );
    while not UTL_FILE.EOF( FH ) loop
    UTL_FILE.GET_LINE( fh, line );
    vData := vData || line;
    end loop;
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(fh);
    insert into myTable values( inFileName, vData );
    commit;
    end loadit;
    For some reason I don't think that is going to work?
    How is this done or is it even done?
    Thanks

    First off don't use LONG use CLOB or BLOB. Then you can use procedures in DBMS_LOB, if you set up your files as BFILES then use DBMS_LOB.LoadFromFile. This will also handle binary files.
    As UTL_FILE only handles text or ASCII files, to get binary files in is harder. You could write a Java class to read files, place the Java in the database, and use that. I've written one, and I see others in different places on the NET.
    Good Luck,

  • Putting a .pdf file into a column in an oracle table

    I have created a table with one column as a blob so I can put 4800 .pdf files into that column of a table. Can anyone correct the ways I am trying to do this or let me know of a better way. I have tried several ways and have not been successful. Thanks.

  • I want to upload data from excel to R.12 tables

    Dear All,
    We have implemented R.12 we have already migrate data from legacy to EBS but during go live period many transaction cannot be record.
    I have data in excel I want to upload. What is the best & save way please let me know.
    Regards,

    Hi Muhammad,
    The easiest way to upload data into a table from excel is to use Import Data feature of SQLDeveloper.
    What you need to do is :
    Right-Click on the table name in the Navigator.
    Select Import Data
    Choose the excel file you want to load the data from.
    Map the columns of the xls file to the columns in the table
    Upload.
    Thanks
    Pushkar.

  • Uploading files Mime Type not correct for Office 2007 default extensions.

    hi all,
    My company has recently moved over to MS Office 2007 and the default extensions for word, excel etc are now .docx, xlsx etc (ie xml based).
    Unfortunately now when we upload files through APEX to the database the MIME TYPE value for these files isn't being recognised and not loadeding correctly into the APEX_APPLICATION_FILES table and subsequently any future retrieval of these files fails.
    I could put some logic inthe up load procedure to look at the filename in APEX_APPLICATION_FILES and hard code in the releavnt mime types but this still causes problems when retrieving the content.
    Has anyone come across this and got a workround? Is it a bug in AE?
    regards
    James
    FYI - using APEX 3.0.2 over 11G.

    I have not any response to my question and not sure if it is in Apex I need to look or the tomcat server that I need to look. I have a useful application to try to show others what Apex can do for our customers to collaborate. However, most of our customers are using office 2007 so, hoping this is possible.
    I am using apex 3.2.0.00.27 if that helps someone to point me where to find more info on being able to have Word 2007 or excel 2007 fire up to open a .docx or .xlss file stored in a table blob column. Word or Excel does fire up to open .doc and .xls files.
    The following is the query for a report selecting the filenames uploaded into a blob column in my table:
    { SELECT s.ID, SUBSTR(s.NAME,INSTR(s.NAME, '/',1,1)+1,length(s.NAME)) SHORT_FNAME, s.SUBJECT
    FROM spp_attachments s
    WHERE s.PROGRAM_ID = :P2_PROGRAMID }
    Below is the stored procedure called from the link on the short_fname column in report query above.
    { create or replace PROCEDURE  download_file(p_file IN number) AS
    v_mime VARCHAR2(48);
    v_length NUMBER;
    v_file_name VARCHAR2(2000);

    IF NOT (wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.is_session_valid) then
    owa_util.status_line(404, 'Page Not Found',true);
    return;
    else
    SELECT MIME_TYPE, BLOB_CONTENT, name,DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(blob_content)
    INTO v_mime,lob_loc,v_file_name,v_length
    FROM spp_attachments
    WHERE id = p_file;
    -- set up HTTP header
    -- use an NVL around the mime type and
    -- if it is a null set it to application/octect
    -- application/octect may launch a download window from windows
    owa_util.mime_header( nvl(v_mime,'application/octet'),
    FALSE );
    -- set the size so the browser knows how much to download
    htp.p('Content-length: ' || v_length);
    -- the filename will be used by the browser if the users does a save as
    htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename="'||replace(REPLACE(substr(v_file_name,instr(v_file_name,'/')+1),chr(10),NULL),chr(13),NULL)|| '"');
    -- close the headers
    owa_util.http_header_close;
    -- download the BLOB
    wpg_docload.download_file( Lob_loc );
    end if;
    end download_file; }
    Thank you,

  • SQL*Loader and unzipping with uploaded file

    hi, everybody
    i was trying to integrate some functionalities, today separated. i made a simple Apex page that uploads a file, and now i need to process that file.
    is there any way to process that uploaded file and load it onto a table, just like i'd do with Sql*Loader?
    in the same way, can i unzip an uploaded zip file, just like Oracle Portal 3.0.9 used to do in its contect areas with zip itens?
    thanks

    Hi, Ivo
    about ult_compress, ok. i'll check it out.
    talking about uploaded files, the only thing i've found were:
    a) download an uploaded file
    b) use an uploaded image to integrate in a web application.
    unfortunately, i didn't find anything that could help me process an uploaded text file the way i do with SQL*Loader.
    i'll keep on trying
    thanx
