Uploading a finished website to iWeb on another mac

I finished  a website on my macbook pro using iWeb. I now need to transfer the files and website to iWeb on a different macbook pro. OS and iWeb versions are identical. Is there a function in iWeb where I can upload an existing iWeb site to another macbook pro? I saved the files to a USB Drive using the publish function, but I do not know how to upload this site (and files) to iWeb on a different macbook pro.
Thanks for your help!

Go to the Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your MBP and copy the Domain.sites file to the same folder on the other MBP.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If there's no iWeb folder on the other MBP create one and put the domain file in it.  Launch iWeb and it should located the domain file and open it.  If there's alread a domain file on the other Mac rename it to Domain2.sites before adding the domain file.
Now you'll have to do the following to open the domain file with iWeb:
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How do I upload a finished website to Business Catalyst using Dreamweaver?

I've finished building a website that I want to publish on Business Catalyst for my client. I'm using Dreamweaver CC. There is an option for creating a new BC website, but I can't find a way to upload a finished site like I was able to in the older versions of Dreamweaver. Am I missing something?

A workaround that's available that involves a few steps.
    1. Print a network configuration page to get the printers host name.
    a. press the wrench in top right hand corner
    b. Select the wireless menu
    c. Scroll and select network configuration.
    d. Print network configuration page.
    2. Select start menu
    a. Go to my computer.
    b. At the top of the page select map network drive.
    c. In the drive box select a available drive letter.
    d. In the Path or Folder text box, type the following:
    \\ insert host name here\Memory_Card
example on how it should look. \\HP7A5319\memory_card
    Select finish after entering information.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Open iWeb on another mac using Dropbox or a flash drive?

I am having a hard time transfering the iWeb file that I created from one mac to another.  I have it saved in Dropbox and have tried to open it from another mac through Dropbox and initailly it wouldn't open it at all.  Then I tried the iWeb Switch Domain and now iWeb will open an extremely out dated version of my site.  And I only have 1 site file.  I have tried transfering it to a flash drive and I get the same result.  Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to upload web pages created in IWEB to another type of site?

I have tried to read through a lot of the posts on here, and always seem to get lost after a few. I am trying to post a website that I am creating using IWEB to the internet. THe catch is that my .Mac account has expired, so I wanted to find another way to get them online. I am a high school teacher and trying to make a website for my classes. If anyone has any other ideas or information please let me know. I greatly appreciate all your time.

Click here for options, or if your ISP allows it, place the published files in the folder /Library/WebServer/Documents/ of your hard disk and start web sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences.

how can I transfer into iWeb a site that was designed with iWeb on another Mac?
    thx

If you do not need to edit it on 2 or more computers but simply want to move it from 1 computer to an other :
locate the iWeb file in the Finder : user(you) / Library / Application Support / iWeb / Domain.sites2
copy this file to the same default location on the other computer: user(that one) / Library / Application Support / iWeb

  • Can I make another website using iWeb,then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb

Can I make another website using iWeb, and then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb, even though I have a website published on mobile me, can I just use the SMTP engine to publish a different site but to a different server, that's the question I'm asking. I'm hoping for a quick reply. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Yes.  You can do it one of two ways:
1 - select FTP Server in the Publish To menu (click on the site folder to get to the options) and enter the FTP address, username and password and publish as you would if using MMe.
2 - select Publish to Folder and publish. Use a 3rd party FTP client like  Cyberduck to upload the site files to there server using the FTP address, etc.

  • Not all of my photos upload to my website when I publish it. when my site finishes publising I get an error that says, "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."

Not all of my photos upload to my website when I publish it. when my site finishes publising I get an error that says, "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."

I am publishing directly to an FTP server (option 1).  Is this the optimal method or should I be publishing to a folder and then (how do/would I?) publish to my hosting domain?
I'm wondering if this has really anything to do with the publishing process, or whether it just has to do with the photos and/or the photo albums.  I've deleted the photo albums with the missing pictures from my site on iweb thinking a file might be corrupt. (I'm getting the albums from iphoto -- drag/drop method into iweb) I then replaced these albums with the same albums as the previous ones from iphoto and then published my site again -- and the EXACT same photos were once again missing in the NEW albums as were missing in the old albums...
Maybe it is a publishing issue, or it could be a photo/file issue.  However, these albums aren't very large -- the largest containing 135 photos --
Please! if you have any suggestions or ideas as to what is happening I would be greatly appreciative!
I'm pulling my hair out here trying to diagnose the problem...

iCloud does not provide website hosting. You will need to find another website hosting service - there are many to choose from - and upload your site there. How you do this depends on what version of iWeb you have.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe. The poster 'Old Toad' on the Apple Forums has provided a workaround, described at http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No.26.html.

I am building a website using IWEB, on my computer, and I am stuck suddenly, the page I made yesterday is hidden by another page and I cannot pursue..
Is there a way to learn the process, also I see a contradiction with ILIFE 2011, reading about an announcement of Steve Jobs....? that iWeb would not longer be??

How is the first page hidden by the other page?  Where are you experiencing this problem?  In iWeb's window or in the browser window of the published site?
Are you referring to the page's link in your navbar?  If so check the Inspector/Page/Page pane for the "hidden" page and make sure it's set to be included in the navbar. If that's not the problem describe in detail what you mean and include any screenshots you can make of the problem.
As far as the longevity of iWeb read the following:
As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • Trouble uploading website using iWeb 09 FTP

    Hello All,
About 2 years ago I used iWeb to upload my website. At the time I had to use Website Maestro for the FTP. Recently I bought a new iMac and used iWeb 09 to change several things on my website.
I viewed all the videos on how to upload your site using the iWeb FTP and I even used the "test connection" button and it said it was great. So I went ahead and uploaded my site and iWeb 09 confirmed that everything was fine, but it didn't change my website. The old pages were still there.
I phoned my web hosting company (Host Papa) and they said iWeb 09 uploads the new pages to a folder in their cpanel and that I would have to log in to the cpanel and move folders around. I tried this but inside Host Papa's cpanel it was all greek to me. I phoned their help line and the guy switched all the files for me and the new pages published fine.
My question is why can't iWeb publish my site without me having to log into their cpanel to change folders around? I noticed on the iWeb 09 publish site I had filled in one bit of information incorrectly. Where it said "Directory/Path" I typed in www/ Their help desk said I should have typed in /public_html/ If I did this would this make a difference? Would it publish directly without me having to go into their cpanel?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

The old pages were still there.
Did you try clearing your browser's cache (CommandOptionE for Safari) and reloading the page? The site and index.html file probably should be uploaded to the public_html folder in your account.
I use WebSite Maestro and find it to be very good for uploading. You might try going back to that especially since iWeb's ftp client is posing problems. I would either try WSM or the free Cyberduck client.

  • How do I upload PDFs to .Mac website with iWeb?

Is there a way to upload documents such as PDFs to my .Mac website with iWeb and then link to them from iWeb pages such as Blogs?
17" iMac (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes, there are two ways of doing it:
The efficient, "every link points to the same guy" solution is to add the PDF to your page with Insert->Hyperlink->To File..., publish it, and copy the address into all references anywhere else (blogs).
The second way is to just link those PDFs locally in each reference. This isn't as efficient space-wise as above, but considerably easier.

  • Linking iWeb to another website

    Hi All,
I have read the previous post about linking iWeb to another website, but I am a complete newbie to web design and need it explained to me in extreme basics.
I purchased a name from a company called 123-Reg in the UK. As part of the setup they allow you to create a web page using simple software. I have created a page with them and simply added a link to the iWeb page.
This works, but ideally I would like people to be automatically connected to my iWeb page when they type in the url I bought.
Has anybody else bought a url from 123 Reg and managed to do this?
    Any comments welcome.
    Thanks
    Iain

I think you want to check out domain forwarding. I just looked at the 123reg web site and it looks like they offer it. Click on domains and then see if there is a web site forwarding or domain forwarding option. I do this as well. I purchased aztecwrestling.com from GoDaddy, but it brings up my iweb site www.mac.com/aztecwrestling. This way anyone who types in aztecwrestling.com is directed to my site. It is up to you whether you also want to show your iweb URL or your purchased URL after they are redirected to your site.

  • I've just finished building a new website with iWeb, I want to build a new site, how can I save the details from the first site?

    Hi There.
I've been building a new website with iWeb. Its now complete, but I will need to keep all the detasils involved as I make amendments from time to time. Now I want to start a new site on a completely different subject. But every time I go to start the new site, it just seems to be 'papering' over the details of the old one. How can I begin a completely new site without overwriting the details of the previous site, and where do I save the original site details to for easy access.
    Thanks,

Do you think its easier to buy ilife 09 and not need to go through this process of individual folders?
Michele ~ I think it's better to keep sites for different clients and friends each in their own iWeb Domain file — but that's just a personal opinion and others may differ.
Also, I have a mac account, if I were to design another website for a client do they need to buy hosting as well in addition to their domain name?
As above, I think it's better for clients and friends each to have their own hosting and domain name — although it's not necessary. Perhaps it wouldn't be inconvenient for you to have a close friend's site hosted on your MobileMe account. Also, there are some restrictions regarding setting up multiple domain names to a single MobileMe account — read more here:

With iLife 09 is the back up necessary.
Backups are always necessary — your Mac's internal HD could crash at any moment. Do you have a plan for when that happens? ...There are only two types of HD: Those that have crashed and those that haven't — yet:

  • Problems uploading webpage to website

Once i have uploaded the page to the website, page is on the server, but can't be viewed on the website.
I have used the default flash gallery of LR, with minor layout adjustments.
Webprovider says the upload should be done in the www folder in which I can create any subfolder I want. Once the upload is finished, page can't be displayed and I got an error message, saying the server didn't understand the request ...
Could you please help? It's the first time I try to upload a page to a website. Thanks

The upload has to go into the home folder of your webspace. And there should be a file called index.htm or .html. If you've created a subfolder in your home directory and uploaded your files there, when you type in the web address in a browser you'll have to type www.mywebsite.com/subfolder.
    Good luck
