UPortal and XML/XSL

I know its not exactly pure java but it is used in a java project... anyway. I am using the uPortal package and am wondering how to change the "look and feel" of it. Everything Ive found on the web so far sucks, it doesnt explane very well.
Can anyone direct me to a good tutorial about uPortal?
please.. need in a hurry
thanks Arnar

When I asked Google about uPortal, this was one of the first five links on the page:

  • Using resourceDescription in SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_Email.xsl and xml's.

    Hello all,
    We are trying to use the Primitive Template "resourceDescription" (as described in "Customizing Notifications"-pdf) in the SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_EMAIL.xsl and SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_en.xml.
    Could anyone urgently let me know if it's possible to use this Primitive Template in the xsl and xml mentioned?
    It looks like the "resourceDescription" is not being passed on to the bundlednotificationdata-section in the xml?
    Any other suggestion in how to get the "resourceDescription" available in Daily Summary Subscription emails?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim.

    Hello Alan,
    Yes; as far as I know the only way to get your changes to any of the email notification xml files visible is by restarting the server
    The notification email xsl I'm working on is the one for the daily notifications (subscriptionbundled_email.xsl).
    My problem is that it seems that the resourceDescription is not being passed on by the java code that is populating the section in the xml file containg the resource information...
    Unfortunately no confirmation about this yet (raised OSS with SAP as well).
    I'm expecting this resourceDescription to contain the text that you can fill in using standard KM in the Description field of a resource.
    I do wonder how/where your users populate the subject and description fields? Standard SAP KM or custom app?
    Cheers,
    Tim.

  • XML, XSL, and why I need a URL to create a XSLStylesheet

    In order to convert XML>>HTML I need to specify both the XML (data) and the XSL (stylesheet). Great.
    Before I slap these two together, I need to create an instance of XSLStylesheet, which takes my raw XSL file and a **URL**?
    XSLStylesheet xsl = new XSLStylesheet(xsldoc, xslURL)
    What is this URL used for? Antoher XML processor I'm migrating from does not require this, and it looks like I can't avoid it. (There's no constructor for the XSLStylesheet that DOESN'T need the URL.)
    QUESTIONS:
    - Is there a way to avoid specifying a URL?
    - If there's not a way, can someone tell me what the URL is being used for? All I see from the Javadoc is that it's a "Reference URL for include, import and external entities". Would love to be able to expand on that - leaves me in a fog.
    Thanks!
    Will.

    try using "null" as argument for url

  • Xsl:include and xml:import

    I want to use another stylesheet within the original one.
    the documentation just said how to declare an
    xsl:include or xsl:import element as top level, but no examples about how to call the imported or included stylesheet.
    I'll appreciate any examples you can provide to me .
    Thanks
    Chris

    I've done this, and the way i think about it is that each "imported" XSL document combines (or are appended) into the XSL document that imports the other XSL documents. As such, all of the template matching that is occuring has to be consistent with the way the XML tags are matching up with XSL templates.
    It is important that the templates in each imported XSL document will match up to the XML tags that the templates are designed to transform.
    In other words, if i have an employee list <emp>, and an XSL template matching the <emp> element, i can produce a transformation on the list itself. now, i can define a transformation for a child element of <emp> by "importing" the XSL document that defines the template match for the child element (for example, "emp/lastName" can be what the second XSL document matches on).
    Long story short, if you can paste the imported XSL into the importing XSL and things still work, then you can separate them out into multiple modular XSL files for inclusion.

  • Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation

    Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation
    NOTE: I think Oracle is a fantastic database and the XML implementation is lovely to use - also I know these are not limited to XE and also that some are fixed in 11g enterprise however I'm not sure if all are so I am posting here in the hope that Oracle will include fixes for all if any have been missed
    1. getclobval() returns a spurious carriage return on end of the value returned
    2. extract does not handle mixed content tags well (for example it simply discards tags that only have whitespace between them
    3. XSL: using a xsl:number level="multiple" with anything beyond a simple count= xpath value crashes the database completely
    4. XSL: insists on pretty printing output XML which is extremely odd behaviour and causes problems when dealing with mixed content

    Another weakness I've seen is with the appendchildxml function and mixed content xml - it appears to likewise pretty print XML causing the injection of carriage returns and whitespace into mixed content nodes

  • How can I process an xml/xsl file pair that require the Internet Explorer dom?

    My personal navigation device (GPS) generates xml files that contain a record of where I have been, together with when I was there, how fast I was driving at the time, etc. taken at approx. 5 second intervals. This xml file has an xml-stylesheet with type="text/xsl" but that stylesheet is written to the Internet Explorer dom standard. The stylesheet interfaces with google maps to display a map that shows my path and it also displays tables of data including distances that are computed from latitude/longitude pairs. I can supply a small sample xml file and the xsl file as well if they are needed to diagnose my problem. I cannot find any browser other than Internet Explorer that handles these files satisfactorily. I prefer to process them from a Linux environment but with the Internet Explorer requirement I cannot do so. The browsers that I have tried and that have failed are Firefox, Opera, Konqueror, Chrome, Epiphany, Midori, Arora, and Links.
    One line in the xls file in particular gives grief in the browsers like Firefox that at least attempt to do more than display the raw xml file:
    xmlns:cymath="urn:smiletime-cybarber-net:math"
    A comment in the xls file says this about the problem:
    "Tested and currently only compatible with Internet Explorer version 6 or version 7 (as this script includes JScript functions called by XSL, msxsl:script extension is required; also, the produced XHTML document embeds javascript functions exploiting the IE DOM).
    "In order to provide compatibility with Firefox, other than checking the compatibility of the IE DOM, the cymath:distCosineLaw function still needs to be ported."

    You may get an answer, but it is not really the sort of subject covered by this forum, I suggest you try [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=49 Mozilazine] and if you solve the problem post back again.

  • UPK Template Customization (XML/XSL)

    Hi all,
    I've created a content in Oracle UPK 11.1.0 developers edition. My concern here is that, during string input of data for e.g., Enter the approriate month, for instance October*. Help text will appear in See It!, Try It! and Know It!, but in Do It! mode the same available instruction will be displayed. What I want in this case, in Do It! mode I need to insert generic text rather than template text. Hence, I want to edit this in Template.xml, associated with two additional xlst files in the Library > Systems > Templates > en > Microsoft - English > Template.xml. Is it possible to edit the xml and xlst and implement the above said. Please let me know, if you require any additional information.
    Thanks,
    Gopivista

    I'm not trying to be difficult...I'm explaining my problem as best as I know how. I didn't realize that alban was asking for input...frankly I didn't understand his "ISP happy you're not using much bandwidth" comments and while I realize a more experienced person probably would have known he wanted input, I didn't and I would have gladly provided it if the request had been explicit. Perhaps this isn't the place for me to ask a question as someone not well versed in xml/xsl but I have provided the input below in case this might help someone help me.
    1 - java code executes sql query
    2 - sql query returns resultSet to java code (see below resultSet)
    3 - java code passes resultSet to xsl template file that I included in my initial post

  • XML, XSL - HTML(JSP), bad UTF-8 encoding on Tomcat

    I use simple transformation to create HTML (JSP) page from XML, XSL (both are encoded in UTF-8}. When doing this in embedded web server in JD9i developer, the result is fine. But when run at Tomcat 4.0.3, UTF-8 chars are displayed as 2 characters. It's interesting that the transformation gives different results:
    - in JD9i the UTF-8 chars are left unchanged and shown good in IE browser
    - in Tomcat the chars with acute (/) are transformed into "&iacute;" , "&aacute;" and so on and shown properly, whereas chars with caron (V) are encoded and shown badly.
    Does somebody know solution to this ? Thanks.

    Doing some more experiments reveals a subtle difference between GET and POST with Tomcat - it may apply to other application servers, but I have only tested with Tomcat 5 and Tomcat 6, so I can't say.
    The following is essentially what most people have indicated you need to do to have your JSP handle UTF-8:
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
      <title>My Title</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>This is what I couldn't get working with my GET (the default for forms) and ended up working when I specified the URIEncoding for the connector in the server.xml file.
    It turns out that the above will work with no modifications to the server.xml file if the form method is POST. If you need to be able use GETs then you will need to modify the connector, otherwise it would seem nothing you do at the JSP or servlet level will make a difference, unless you want to convert each parameter manually:
      String parameter = new String( request.getParameter("myParam").getBytes("ISO-8859-1"), "UTF-8" );Edited by: ajmasx on Sep 27, 2007 10:20 AM

  • How to burst reports in text and XML format using API

    Hi there,
    I need to be able to burst PDF, Excel etc reports and at the same time, generate XML files containing metadata that will accompany the PDF files to their destination. The reason for this, is that the destination requires metadata to class the documents in the content management system.
    My issue is that I just cannot get bursting to XML, text or HTML format right. There is very little documentation available around creating reports in these formats using the API's and perhaps someone who has gotten this right can, once and for all, solve this issue where others can find the solution.
    Alright, here is some sample supporting documentation (For the sake of the question, I have removed the bursting to PDF, Excel etc. formats and I am just focusing on the XML output):
    In my code for bursting, I make use of the following constructor...
    DocumentProcessor dp =
    new DocumentProcessor("ControlFile.xml", "TestData.xml", "temp");
    The ControlFile.xml looks like this...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi">
    _<xapi:request select="/DATA/LIST_BRANCH/BRANCH">
    ___<xapi:delivery>
    ______<xapi:filesystem id="dst" output="C:\${BRANCH_NAME}.xml"/>
    ___</xapi:delivery>
    ___<xapi:document output-type="text" delivery="dst">
    ______<xapi:template type="xsl-fo" location="Template.xsl"></xapi:template>
    ___</xapi:document>
    _</xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    The data in my TestData.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DATA>
    ___<LIST_BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 1</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 2</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ___</LIST_BRANCH>
    </DATA>
    In my ControlFile.xml, I reference my XSL file called Template.xsl which should do my transformations into XML. That file looks like:
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    __<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes">
    __<xsl:template match="/">
    ____<METADATA>
    _______<BRANCH>
    ___________<xsl:value-of select="BRANCH_NAME"/>
    _______</BRANCH>
    ____</METADATA>
    __</xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    I have tried about forty variations of the ControlFile.xml and Template.xsl and have had no luck. Among the various error messages that the compiler has reported to me, these are the most common:
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] org.xml.sax.SAXException: element metadata is not supported yet.
    [101507_061037084][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_061037094][][EXCEPTION] oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Start of root element expected.
    I have managed in some cases to get the API code to compile, but the outputs are empty 0kb files.
    I have also exported an XSL-FO file from word, but the output is always PDF even with tweaking.
    I have wasted about 9 hours on this problem and it is driving me mad! If anyone has ideas, tips and/or solutions, they would be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

  • Problem in IAS Server with generation of PDF with FOP and XML parsing

    Dear co.forumers :
    We are developing an application that generates a pdf document with FOP Apache utilities, and this PDf is stored in a folder of the server. Firts of all, a DDBB data is retrieved using java ( jdbc) middleware classes ( servlets ), and with these data, the pdf is generated using FOP. In these process, he data retrieved from the DDBB is converted in a XML file , and the with the XSL FOP utility, the pdf is generated.
    In the other hand, we have another application that consults data from a java beans, using a JSP, generates a XML with the data of the beans, and with this XML, and with a XSL file generates and html , with the data and fixed text.
    Both applications have been deployed as a separated WebApp in the IAS. Both use Xalan as XML parser amb Xerces is used aswell.
    So, the problem is , after generating a pdf with the firts application, every html generated via JSP-XML-XSL transformation in the second application is shown completelly bad formated. All fixed text are wrongly composed, and the text that should appear in textFields and ComboBoxes is also bad formated. The XML with the data is well generated, so the problem is in the parsing of these XML and the conversion in html through XSL. We have to re-initiate the server and then everything goes well again. If no pdf is launched, no problem occurs with the other application.
    How an a WEB APP pplication can affect to another, installed both in different folders of the IAS ? We tried to change Xalan version and FOP version, but no result.
    Is this a Poltergeist ?? and X file , maybe ?
    Has anyone had the same problem ?
    Pleae, any help will be very wellcomed.

    A PDF document may be generated in the JDeveloper OC4J server.

  • Converting xml/xsl to pdf

    Hi,
    I am using apache's FOP 0.20.3, xerces 2.0.0.beta4 and xalan j.2.2.0 to convert xml/xsl file to pdf. The code is same as the one given in the org.apache.fop.apps.Driver class.
    <pre>
         Driver driver = new Driver();
         driver.setRenderer(Driver.RENDER_PDF);
         InputHandler inputHandler = new XSLTInputHandler(new File(xmlFile), new File(xslFile));
         try
              XMLReader parser = inputHandler.getParser();
              driver.setOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(outFile));
              driver.render(parser, inputHandler.getInputSource());
         catch (FOPException fope)
              fope.printStackTrace();
         catch (FileNotFoundException fnfe)
              fnfe.printStackTrace();
    </pre>
    The xml and xsl files I am using are glossary.xml and glossary.xsl files that come with FOP.
    Now, this code compiles successfully and while running gives the following exception:
