URGENT !! linking.jnlp file.

This is kinda urgent as this is my last step to completion.
Hi, i currently have a project runnin using netbeans 5.5. In this project, it is suppose to perform a search by reading from some directories containing only .txt files and writing into another directory in .txt form, which i used BufferReader and PrintWriter to fulfil the task. I signed the .jar and allow permissions to my .jnlp and it runs perfectly with the search output printed out. But when i try to link this .jnlp from my website, the sandbox did appear but it did not output the search results (just like before i signed it!). I try to put it on a sever and the same thing happens.
anyone have any idea whats wrong ??

i want labview to link my excel and acess, so that a database is created.
second thing is i am having verious barcode data like for eg. for product X i have a particular barcode and for product Y another so my software create a new excel file whenever we change a product or a particular quantity of any product is filled. Now the question is if everytime i creat a new excel how do i creat a single database by linking all files using labview.

JNLP file not opening in Windows 8 and IE 10

I am trying to launch the ROES ordering tool through WHCC prints and it has always worked on my other IE 10 through Windows 7 but on my new computer with Win 8 I cannot get it to launch because of the JNLP file not opening... and it won't work on desktop
mode either... What do I need to do??

Download .jnlp file when first time

Hi Everybody,
I am new bee for java web start.
We are having swing application which we want to distribute through Java Web Start. Client can run application through provided web link. we also want to download .jnlp file to the client machine when user clicked the link first time.
I go through different thread for the above problem in this forum, but though not getting clear idea as in our application, we need to generate dynamic .jnlp file. All solution posted for the above problem assuming that .jnlp file exists at some location, but in our case we have to generate it when user clicked it first time. Any body having some idea ?
Our second problem is, can it possible that user will run the swing application only when he click the link provided on the web server ? In our case authentication of user is done in our web application and when user will click the provided link user id and other information will be pass to swing application as parameters through .jnlp file. If that application will available offline user can run it through last downloaded .jnlp file without clicking the link , which will be not allowded. Also we are concern about multi user environment, as we are thinking to dynamic generation of .jnlp file , it may possible that other user running the same application noted .jnlp file version difference and will download the .jnlp file of other user ?
Can any body have any idea, how can we done the above scenario ?

If you upgrade to Java 1.4.2 it will present a dialog asking for desktop
integration the first time you start the application.
Maybe that's what you want?

Stop firefox from prompting to open jnlp file

Love JWS!!
Works great for me on both IE and FF browsers using a little bit of JavaScript.
The only drawback I see is that Firefox will prompt the user to open file.jnlp with the default download/open dialog.
Anyone know how to prevent this?
Do you implement the JS in a manner that is different, allowing seamless function in FF too?

Right, well I was more thinking about other end users than myself, and their first visit.
I think the prompt with an unknown file type might be discomforting for some of my visitors.
Did I read right however, that with the updates to 1.6 will come a fix to this?
In other words, Joe Blow, first-timer comes, clicks, and voila! open application, just like IE.

Is there a way to still use Webstart?

Accented character encoding in JNLP files

Hi everyone:
Maybe I am missing something trivial, but I am having trouble encoding French accented characters in my JNLP files. For example, I tried to encode the name "Québec" as follows:
- Québec: the file is not parsed completely and the application-desc tag appears to be missing. I know that this problem has already been reported by German and Swedish fellows.
- Québec: the file is parsed correctly but the é tag is not converted to "é."
- Québec: the é tag is not converted either.
- Qu\u00d9bec: no conversion...
- Qu\00d9;bec: still no conversion...
How should I encode my accented characters so that they appear correctly in Java Web Start presentation windows?

Rather than trying some kind of escape sequence, how about just storing the file as whatever "native" codepage your system likes and then converting it to UTF-8 with the native2ascii utility for deployment (not ideal, but it may work):

Creating .jnlp files from .java files

Last resort: Ask on the forums. I'm having a lot of trouble creating .jnlp files with only a .java file. For some reason if I do create project, the project does not run correctly, but when I make the file and run the file alone, it works perfectly fine. Most of the tutorials that I have read online ask me to do weird manifest .class stuff (in order to make JAR files, which i have failed to do even after attempting to make one after 3 hours). And still, when it comes to make the .jnlp file, I don't quite understand anything. When putting it on the web, I'm planning not to use php (html is in my mind right now), and I have aborted every single attempt at making the JAR files and whatnot.
At this point, I'm not asking for anything other than a link to a tutorial that actually works, because all that I have tried (for the JAR files, especially) have been giving me errors. By the way, one really bothersome output that comes up is the "illegal option: j" when I use the Tool for the JAR file, and I have no idea what that means--I google it and find nothing. The .java itself extends JPanel, so it isn't really an applet.
How to: Run an Applet
Create an Applet Class by clicking File > New > File > File Type > Java Classes > Applet Class.
Enter a name and path for the applet and click Finish.
Build the file by pressing F7.
Create an Applet HTML file by clicking File > New > File > File Type > Other > HTML Applet.
Enter a name and path for the applet and click Finish.
Open the HTML file in JCreator and modify the applet tag to match the name of the applet class.
Open the Project Settings window and select the HTML file as the Run parameter.
Click the Run Project button.It isn't really a code, but I tried doing this and the HTML Applet said code = ".class" Again, I don't have a class for the file. And when you do the "File > New > File > File Type > Java Classes > Applet Class," you get the .java file and a folder that says "components, with two classes in it. I was completely befuddled.

I don't think that could work that way... But it is possible to reference others JNLP files inside a JNLP file.
Example in my own jnlp file:

Launch JNLP file which required full-qualified domain name

My suitation is like this:
I need to launch an JNLP file which I need a domain name in order to access it: (using JDK 1.5.0_11)
e.g. http://hostname.domain.domain/xxx/yyy/zzz.jnlp
But when it try to access one of the jar file, it will refer to http://hostname/aaa.jar that lead to UnknownHostException.
Note: (I already use the full domain name to launch the JNLP file..)
Any one have idea on what to do? And I have no option to change the network setting to support solely "hostname" without domain.

You should change the codebase (declared in the jnlp tag) to http://hostname.domain.com:12718/CMTE-3rdParty
That's how jnlp works, URL are made up as codebase+href.
You'd better use absolute URL for the jnlp href (not for resources).
And, last but not least, as Andrew would say: use JaNeLa (look for a link almost anywhere in the forum).

Embedding basic http authentication credentials in JNLP file

I want to embed basic http authentication credentials in the JNLP file.
Basically, I want the jars to be behind basic http authentication in order to distribute the application only to authorized users (I understand this is not strong security, but it's fine for my purposes) who are all on Windows, and once the java app is initially installed, I never want to have to enter the http login credentials again.
So I set up the http authentication and in the jnlp file I have:

This doesn't seem to phase the JWS authenticator. So on the first launch from the desktop shortcut I put the credentials in manually and select "save this password in my password list". It seems like I'm in the clear as the next time I launch the application from a desktop shortcut I am not asked for any credentials, but every time the Windows machine is restarted, I get the JWS authenticator again...the password is no longer saved.
Is there a way to embed the username/password in the JNLP file to get past the JWS authenticator without having to retype the username and password every time the machine is restarted? Or to permanently save the password in the JWS authenticator password list? Or any other way to set it up where once the application is initially installed, the http authentication credentials never have to be manually entered again?

I manage to do almost all (I suppose), but I need last help.
Through SM59 I created the HTTP Destination needed; then, I implemented the code given by SAP here:

I ran the program, and it gives me the error: "Binder not found for soapAction = null.
I suppose that I should give the link to the soapAction, but I don't know where in the code.

How to get around safari no longer launching jnlp files with 6.0.3?

I'm both a user of Java Webstart applications and a publisher (at work and for private projects)
Given the latest update to Safari that no longer launches a JNLP file I've had no choice but recommend that my clients switch to Firefox or Chrome in order to continue using the Java Webstart applications.
The fact that clicking the button or link to launch the JNLP appears to do nothing, that sometimes the JNLP is downloaded and other times not, and it never launches webstart, makes it impossible to support clients and makes the applications appear completely broken.
Is there no workaround to this? Some way to get Safari to run the JNLP file?

For security reasons, WebStart application files are now downloaded to a hidden folder and are not launched automatically. Although you may find instructions on the Internet for defeating this protection, I strongly advise against doing so.
The right way to launch a WebStart application is to click the Downloads button at the right end of the Safari toolbar and then double-click the icon of the JNLP file you just downloaded. If you want to save the file for later use, click the magnifying-glass icon to reveal it in the Finder, and then move it.

Cleaning up JNLP files

Is there a way to reliably clean up downloaded JNLP files from the desktop or wherever the user has specified downloads are to be placed when the application is done?
Leaving a bunch of JNLP files littering the desktop or home directory seems somewhat antisocial.

Hm. I thought I was pretty clear but let's try again.
As we all know, I assume, when a user running a web browser clicks on a link pointing to a JNLP file, that file is downloaded, either to the user's desktop or to some temp directory or folder, depending on the user's preferences. That JNLP is fed to Java Web Start, Java Web Start downloads JAR files, if necessary, to the user's cache, and launches the application.
What I want to be able to do is to cause that JNLP file to be automatically or programmatically deleted at some point, probably when the user exits the application.
What's currently happening is that old Whatever.jnlp, Whatever-1.jnlp, Whatever-2.jnlp. . . files accumulate on the user's desktop and the user has to delete them manually, which strikes me as being somewhat antisocial.
Also, at least on a Macintosh, the user can doubleclick on the JNLP file icon and launch the program, which I do not want, since the application is under active development.
I understand about <offline-allowed> and my JNLP does not have this line, so Java Web Start will always go to the server to fetch new JAR files but I have had occasions where new JAR files have been added and the old JNLPs, of course, do not refer to them and the user gets confusing results.
Thus I want to make the downloaded JNLP file go away once the application closes.
My users are on several different types of computer (Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, Mac, and Windows) so a "Windows-only" solution is not especially useful.
This has nothing to do with shortcuts or Windows "Add or Remove Programs."

No update-check on JNLP-file when start from other location than codebase

we are using JWS version 1.0 and 1.4.2.
Our clients have a common directory on the local disc which contains all the JNLP-files used in their organization. Some menu-links and some other applications are using this JNLP-files to launch and jump into the applications.
The JNLP-file repository is provided by an http-URL location. The JNLP-files in the local directory are directed by the codebase-attribute to this repository.
JWS processes the launch in following way:
1. read the codebase and href-attribute from the launched JNLP-file.
2. get timestamp from the original in the JNLP-repository
3. check if already cached and with latest timestamp.
4. download JNLP-file if not cached or not latest version.
5. check/download all other resources.
6. start the app.
With JWS shipped with JRE 1.5 (Beta was fine) this doesnt work in the same procedure:
1. copy the launched JNLP-file in the empty JWS-cache.
2. set a new timestamp on the cached JNLP-file (it does not let the old timestamp).
3. get timestamp from the original in the JNLP-repository (given with the codebase & href attribute)
4. check if already cached and with the latest timestamp.
5. download JNLP-file if not cached or not latest version. (will never appear because timestamp in cached version is newer)
6. check/download all other resources.
7. start the app. (with probably not latest resources)
Is this behaviour ok or is this a Bug?

we tried with 1.5.0_04, 1.5.0_06 and 1.5.0_07 and it was always the same problem.
With the beta 1.5.0 (jawaws.jar's build.id = b64, 15/09/2004) it worked correctly.

when i click on the link to jnlp file, this latter file is dsiplayed by the browser in its xml format and there is no call to the application.

Are you sure that your webserver is returning the right mime type for the .jnlp extension ?
If you are using a Java appserver then updating the mimetype list of the web.xml with a new one for jnlp iwll do the trick...
You can easilly find lots of threads around the net on this one !
