Urgent: Problem to load Flat file using DTP.
Hi Experts,
I try to load a flat file PSA->DSO->INFOCUBE using DTP.
I my flatfile in the application server in csv format.
in the My data source I opted Adapter as Load Text -Type file from Application Server.
Data Format : I test with both the potions : Fixed length & Separated with Separator( For example CSV) .
If I check the preview: I cant find any data and get the message: Inbound processing of data package 000001 finished
when I try to Load the data thorough PC the load was successfull but only 0 records are transfered and added to PSA:; DSO and Info Cube.
The test file contains around 20 records.
Any suggestions please.
Thanks & Regards
Hi Sailekha..
in the My data source I opted Adapter as Load Text -Type file from Application Server.
Data Format : I test with both the potions : Fixed length & Separated with Separator( For example CSV) .
Note: As per ur info:
In the Flat file Data source :
1. You have to maintain the Adapter as:
Load Text -Type file from Application Server
Data Format : Separated with Separator
Then Use the "Proposal" Tab to generate the field proposals.
(Only in BI 7.0 this option is available).
After that check the Preview in "Preview" Tab.
Hope it works...

Issue in How-To document "Load flat file using SAPGUI"?
Hi,
I'm having an issue with following lines in the How-To document.
I've a characteristic "CHAR1" which is restricted with multuple values in the planning level.
after the upload using this document, CHAR1 is being loaded incorrect & during my debugging I've noticed that program is changing CHAR1 values while executing following lines of code.
It works fine, if i don't have a restriction for CHAR1 at planning level.
It also works fine, if i restricted CHAR1 with a single value in level.
It's not working as expected, if i restrict CHAR1 with multiple single values.
incase of multiple single values restriction, following is happening.
let's say i load following file & i restricted CHAR1 with values "aaaaa,fffff" in level.
CHAR1 CHAR2 value
aaaaa bbbbb 1000
fffff eeeee 2000
it's being loaded as follows. Program is changing all values of CHAR1 with 1st value of the restricted multiple values and in this case, it is "aaaaa".
CHAR1 CHAR2 value
aaaaa bbbbb 1000
aaaaa eeeee 2000
Has any one encountered the same problem?
Marc,
Could you please comment on this.
>>> INSERT
Set fixed fields
LOOP AT ito_chasel INTO ls_chasel.
READ TABLE ls_chasel-t_charng INTO ls_charng INDEX 1.
IF sy-subrc = 0 AND ls_charng-option = 'EQ'.
ASSIGN COMPONENT ls_chasel-chanm OF STRUCTURE ls_data-s_chas TO <f>.
IF sy-subrc = 0.
<f> = ls_charng-low.
ENDIF.
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.
<<< INSERT
Appreciate any help.

SEM BW AnalystMarc,
I still need to keep the lines of coding as I've few characteristics restrictied to single values & one characteristic restricted to multiple single values.
when the coding is commented out, single value restricted characteristics are not getting populated with any value.
I'm counting the table entries "ls_chasel-t_charng" and if entries are 1, then am activating the code. this seems to be working fine. Do you see any problems/issues with this?

Problem when loading xml file using sql loader
I am trying to load data into table test_xml (xmldata XMLType)
i have an xml file and i want whole file to be loaded into a single column
when i use the following control file and executed from command prompt as follows
sqlldr $1@$TWO_TASK control=$XXTOP/bin/LOAD_XML.ctl direct=true;:
LOAD DATA
INFILE *
TRUNCATE INTO TABLE test_xml
xmltype(xmldata)
FIELDS
ext_fname filler char(100),
xmldata LOBFILE (ext_fname) TERMINATED BY EOF
BEGIN DATA
/u01/APPL/apps/apps_st/appl/xxtop/12.0.0/bin/file.xml
the file is being loaded into table perfectly.
unfortunatley i cant hardcode file name as file name will be changed dynamically.
so i removed the block
BEGIN DATA
/u01/APPL/apps/apps_st/appl/xxtop/12.0.0/bin/file.xml
from control file and tried to execute by giving file path from command line as follows
sqlldr $1@$TWO_TASK control=$XXTOP/bin/LOAD_XML.ctl data=/u01/APPL/apps/apps_st/appl/xxtop/12.0.0/bin/file.xml direct=true;
but strangely it's trying to load each line of xml file into table instead of whole file
Please find the log of the program with error

please help me how can i load full xml into single column using command line without hardcoding in control file
Edited by: 907010 on Jan 10, 2012 2:24 AMbut strangely it's trying to load each line of xml file into table instead of whole fileNothing strange, the data parameter specifies the file containing the data to load.
If you use the XML filename here, the control file will try to interpret each line of the XML as being separate file paths.
The traditional approach to this is to have the filename stored in another file, say filelist.txt and use, for example :
echo "/u01/APPL/apps/apps_st/appl/xxtop/12.0.0/bin/file.xml" > filelist.txt
sqlldr $1@$TWO_TASK control=$XXTOP/bin/LOAD_XML.ctl data=filelist.txt direct=true; -
How can I load a flat file using a different Work Station
Hi Gurus,
I'm having problems with loading Flat file in our Production Server when it comes to loading a file from another work station. The scenario is all the Info Packages needed are created in oour Dev Server. So the location of the flatfile is already define which is the developer's workstation. Now when the package is transported to the production server any changes to the package is not allowed inlcuding the location of the flatfile needed to be uploaded. Now my question is. is there a way that the location be changed in the production server without adding the package Z_BI because that will mean we can do changes in the production server. Thanks in Advance
- KitDirectly you can not change the info package settings. You need do change the status of Info package to changeable mode and then do necessary changes.
RSA1 => Click on truck symbol (Object changeability) => select info package => right click => click on Switch changeability.
Now do the changes to your Info Package.

Loading flat files from a server with OWB
I am successful loading files with OWB, as long as they resided on my workstation in the C:\ drive. I copied the files to a Linux server into directories owned by Oracle/oinstall, permissions on the directories containing the files are 777. I ran the OWB client from the server with the following results:

[d97886@owbtest owb_repos1]$Hi
This is what i do for my flat files (i am loading my tables from the flat files):
1) Create location for the files in OWB and it should look something like \\path_to_where_the_files_are. Here you should be able to browse to your Linux box and select the location of the files.
2) Then check whatever you use (i use TOAD) and you should see in owb schema a directory created there which points to the location of the flat file.
3) then just follow the guide to sample the files etc and you are good to go.
Basically OWB has to be able to see the files that are on Linux machine.
Alternatively you can map your Linux share to your windows box (use samba or something) and use it that way.
Sorry if it is stating the obvious.
Hope this helps

Interface used in loading flat file data into bw
what is the interface used in loading flat files into the bw system.
HI Flat file load is its own interface. It leverages the S-API (Service API), the standard interface that is used to load data in the BI system.
Start from this point:

Uregnt - How to Load Flat File into BW-BPS using Web Browser
Hello,
We have followed the 'How to Load Flat File into BW-BPS using Web Browser' guide to build BSP web front-end to upload flat file. Everything works great but we have a requirement to populate the Planning Area Variables based on BSP drop down list with values. Does anyone know how to do this? We have the BSP coded with drop down list all we need to do now is populate variables. We can populate the variables through the planning level (hardcoded) but we need to populate them through the web interface.
Thanks,
GaryHello Gary,
We have acheived the desired result by not too a clean method but it works for us.
What we have done is, we have the link to load file in a page where the variables can be input. The user would then have the option to choose the link to load a file for the layout in that page.
By entering the variable values in the page, we are able to read the variables for the file input directly in the load program.
Maybe this approach might help.

Delete data from a flat file using PL/SQL -- Please help.. urgent
Hi All,
We are writing data to a flat file using Text_IO.Put_Line command. We want to delete data / record from that file after data is written onto it.
Please let us know if this is possible.
Thanks in advance.
VaishaliThere's nothing in UTL_FILE to do this, so your options are either to write a Java stored procedure to do it or to use whatever mechanism the host operating system supports for editing files.
Alternatively, you could write a PL/SQL procedure to read each line in from the file and then write them out to a second file, discarding the line you don't want along the way. -
Risk factors while loading flat files
HI,
CAn anybody tell me what are risk factors while loading
flat files....
Thanks in advance,
regards,
RagsRisks:
1) If flat-file is created manually
- users may forget columns, specifically UNIT and
CURRENCY.
- Keyfigures my be presented in thousands one time
and in single dollars the other time.
- Flat-file may be delivered too late.
- Automatic scheduling is difficult if flat-file
comes from client station. You even can't do it
with a process chain.
- Naming conventions (capitals, leading zeroes,
trailing spaces, special characters)
- Master data conversion
2) If flat-file is created automatically (from legacy
system):
- Data may arrive too late
- Data file (if loaded from server) requires a
connection to the external disk - security risk.
- (Master) Data conversion
Note: In the past I had trouble with uploading flat-files from a network-drive. It sometimes happened that the flatfile was only partly imported and that no errors where reported. When loading data from my local C-drive I never had this problem.
My advise is to upload a flat-file into an ODS before using the data further in BW. In the ODS you can add a date to mark the loading data. If the loading to an ODS is ok then there is a much bigger change that you will not get problems further in the data-stream. Make sure that the key-user validates the data in the ODS before using it any further. It pays off to create one or two special queries on this ODS to enable testing of the data. -
Hi,
I have a problem with connecting flat files(.txt, .xml, .csv, .xls, etc...) which is existing in application it's self, using jdbc connection.
After searching I found some suggestions below.
1)xlsql
2)JDO
I tried with first one (xlsql), below is the process. First create core java project and load the jar files which is from xlsql. below is the code
Class.forName("com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver");
final String dir = System.getProperty("user.dir")+"\\db\\xl";
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:nilostep:excel:/"+dir);
Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
String sql = "select * from Sheet1$";
ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
if(rs.next()){
System.out.println(rs.getString(1));
}else{
System.out.println("nodata....");
It is saying Sheet1$ table not existing.
Please help me.Not quite sure of your definition of a flat file, but a .xls files is a Microsoft Excel workbook, which is saved in a proprietary binary format, so there's certainly nothing 'flat' about it. Of course, there are odbc and suchlike drivers for treating Excel workbooks as data sources, but you need to ensure when you query them that you know the details of the workbook.
In each workbook, each spreadsheet has a name (as defined on it's tab at the bottom). That is taken to be the name of the 'table' that you use when you query it with SQL.
On each spreadsheet, row 1 of that sheet should denote the column names of the 'table'
All subsequent rows on the spreadsheet are the data that will be returned from querying it.
Typically, the data on the sheets should be fairly straightforward, in order to query it. Some excel functionality may prevent it being queried properly. -
DB2 Version 8 to Flat Files using ODI
Hi,
We are trying to load data from DB2 V8 to flat files using ODI.
Can anybody help me in this to configure server in Topology.
Thanks
AshwiniHi,
How are you? Let me try contribute a little...
A)
1) The OS isn't a problem, once you link it at topology will be OK.
2) If you have a fix name just create a datastore to it, if not, there are techniques to got dynamic file names
3) When you say "*.dat, *.cvs" maybe you refer to the internal format of file (record separator, decimal point, etc) all of this is configurable on datastore that represents the file at ODI.
B) Yes, the only requisite is to have the write and read rights.
C) The most simple way is create a refresh variable that get the data in any format you wish..
Does it make any sense to you?

Load multiple files using the same data load location
has anybody tried loading multiple files using the same load locations. I need to do this as the data in these multiple files will need to be exported from FDM as a single export file. the problem i am facing is more user related. since these files will be received at different points of time, users will need a way to tell them what has been loaded and what is yet to be loaded.
is it possible to throw a window on the web broser with OK and Cancel buttons from an event script?
any pointers to possible solutions will be helpfulwas able to resolve this. the implementation method is as follows
take a back up of previously imported data in the befcleardata event script. then in the beffileimport event append the data to the import file. there are many other intricacies but this is the broad implementation logic. it allowed my users to load multiple files without worrying about append or replace import type choices
