Urgent: Video deleted

Hi,
I need help with something that happened just an hour ago. FCp seems to have deleted all the videos that were in the timeline, without my knowledge. After some hair pulling moments, i have concluded that all the video have been deleted. Let me tell you the timeline of the events,
Saturday 21st March: Unable to install motion from the independent motion dvd, I call mac support. They advice me to install the programme through the fcstudio cd's. This takes over four hours, and i have to pop in all the dvd's of motion, livetype, soundtrack pro etc. Motion install succesful.
Sunday 22nd March: I was working on an fcp edit. As i opened the .fcp file, i get an error message saying the project is too new for the current version of fcp. So I guessed while installing motion, it somehow downgraded the fcp or quicktime versions. I do a software upgrade and there it does say i need to update, but to 6.0.5. I am a bit wary, but update anyway. Update succesful, projects opening fine.
We finish editing.
Monday: We do crucial editing and laying the Vo/Narration.
Tuesday: We finish editing. FCP and everything works fine. To insert the ambience, I select everything and click on send to soundtrackpro multiscript project. I save the file, and it opens stpro, and an error comes saying could'not find video file. I could not figure out why the video would not come, so i went and did the same process again. Again it said unable to locate video file. So i closed stpro and switched to fcp. to my horror everything, absolutely everything was showing offline. All video had been deleted. The audio files, graphics were not. Just the video files. I could not reconnect as they had been deleted from the harddrives. And i have backup only for the .fcp files.
After making a few enquiries, i found that there could be a bug in fcp 6.0.5 ? Luckily only days earlier i had exported the entire video in native format. so i just need to do some editing, and i have all the tapes so it makes it easier.
Just could not figure how such a thing could happen. Imagine if i did not have a backup. Six months of work on the 25 minute timeline gone for sure.
Anyone knows why and how this happenend. I am running mac osX 10.5.6, fcstudio 2, adobe photoshop, aftereffects. I hope there is no bug in the system.
thanks.

Final Cut Pro does not delete files by itself.
The Motion installation was not done correctly. If you only want to install Motion there is no need to insert all the other discs. Only the Main FCS disc and the Motion disc are needed.
Having files show as offline does not mean the files have been deleted, it means that they are not there where the project file expects to find them. This might be as simple as reconnecting an external drive. or setting the Scratch Disk to the right place.
There is no bug, it's all down to user error.
Take a deep breath, start sorting your project out and reconnect the media.
Don't reinstall Final Cut Studio in the middle of a project.

  • Can one recover a video deleted from iPhoto?

How does one recover a photo or video deleted from iPhoto?

Where did the photo or video come from?
If it originated from the camera roll, it will have been backed up to iCloud with your most recent iCloud backup, see: iCloud: Backup and restore overview
the Camera roll photos will be visible in the Photo Stream on any other device you are syncing with the IOS device. iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
If your photos have been synced to iPhoto IOS via iTunes from a computer, simply sync again.

  • IPhoto 08 not updating videos deleted from iMovie 08

Been an iPhoto user for years. During that time I've accumulated hundreds of short video clips taken in the movie mode of my various still cameras. Good stuff but it's always been hard to look at them, until now. iMovie 08 makes it very simple but I've stumbled across a bug which is really troubling me.
Basically I'm using iMovie 08 to view all these short clips. Many of them are garbage so I've been deleting them. The problem is that iPhoto 08 does not know they have been removed. In the iPhoto library, the clips still show up however double clicking on them simply launches QuickTime Player and does nothing, no error, no dialog, no movie. It's as if iMovie isn't telling iPhoto that the movie has been deleted. In any case I've tried many of the rebuild options in iPhoto by launching while holding down Command+Option, none help.
Does anyone know a work around or is this the kind of thing which will hopefully be fixed in a future update?

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

  • Is it possible to restore music and videos deleted by itunes

as the title states is it?
today i updated my ipod touch to 1.1.5. and i have jailbroken it before but the jailbrake was gone so i decided to go and back up my music on my brother's laptop which already had itunes on my account of his laptop. but when i went to connect my ipod. i descovered all my music was gona and on the ipod section of the itunes. the memory staus of my ipod had all been noted as "others" and not "music" or "videos" like it usually does.
so with that being said. is there a way to restore the deleted music of my ipod?

    1) Please use better English. I had to read your post 4 times before I understood what you were talking about. This made me not want to help you, but I'm going to try anyway.
    2) You cannot copy music from your iPod onto your computer. This is because Apple doesn't want to be caught with lawsuits the same way as Napster and others did in the past.
    3) If you copied music from your computer to your iPod without going through iTunes, it will be registered as "other" because it is noted as data space, not music space, same as if you copy documents or other stuff to use your iPod as a USB flash device. This is probably the root of your problem.
    4) iPods (in general), as far as I know, do not know how to distinguish between music and non-music in their data space. Therefore, you will mot be able to play music copied to your iPod without going through iTunes. I don't know how Jailbreak works, but I presume it allows you to do this, which is likely the source of your confusion.
If you have all your music in your data space, which seems to be the case, here's something you can try (although no guarantees it'll work):
    1) Go into iTunes, with your iPod plugged in.
    2) Go into your iPod statistics (where it shows space usage, etc).
    3) Check the box near the bottom that says "Enable Disk Use" or something like that.
Your iPod should then mount on your desktop and allow you to access it as a normal flash drive. If, indeed, your music is in your data space, you should be able to copy it to your computer.
If that doesn't work, I think you're SoL. This is why you shouldn't jailbreak your iPod.

  • Video deleted from iPad mini - help, please

I took a video on an iPad mini, which was then deleted by accident.  It was not backed up on the Cloud or iTunes.  My understanding is that only a data recovery software will help me retrieve that video...but which one do I trust?  Is there one that does not cost an arm and a leg?  I appreciate any help.

Really?  I was under the impression a third party recovery software would be an option.  If not, I am so, so sad.
    Thanks for your reply.
You're thinking of computers, not iPads.

  • Video deleted from pc, but sync to ipod classic

Hi. I have deleted a video that is really important to me by accident. Tried to recover from pc in many different ways but none worked. However, I discovered that the video had been syncronized to my ipod classic. Is there any way to recover it?

Yes you can recover it but it will take some doing. If you are dealing with windows, then when you connect your ipod, it shows up as a drive. All the data on it is under "Drive":\iPod_Control\Music. The names are not recognisable to you so copy all to a drive and ask itunes to add that copied drive to your library. It will duplicate your orignal files which you can delete but will recover your file. A price to pay.

  • Video deleted, how to recover?

can I get a deleted video back?

If you backed up the phone after recording, but before deleting the video, restore it from the backup. If you did not back it up in between, it is gone.

  • Videos deleted shortly after importing

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying hard to migrate my photo collection from iPhoto (and eventually Aperture, which I still use for professional work) to the new Photos app.
What I have noticed, though, is that, besides all photos from iPhone being imported rotated 180°, which is (annoyingly) fixable by hand, Photos will just delete videos from its catalogue. Needless to say, they open fine in iPhoto.
    Basically:
On first launch (or consequent start-ups of the app when deleting the Photos library), Photos asks to import a library.
It goes through the import process.
All files are imported correctly (besides the 180° issue), including videos, which play back normally.
Under Preferences, I set the library as System library (in case I deleted the previous Photos library), and turn on the iCloud Photo Library feature.
Somewhere along the process, when I try to access some videos, it says "Photos can't reproduce the file" (translation from my OS X language). In some other videos, a small progress wheel appears on the bottom right, and gets stuck at about one quarter.
I have also tried to import everything by opening manually the "Masters" folder in the old iPhoto library, but then, Photos will give an error regarding duplicate files.
Honestly, all these problems are so un-Apple-like. I'm very frustrated; I've tried to give Photos a chance, but I can't even START using it.
    Any suggestions?

    Sorry, wrong section; please delete.

  • Video deletion problem

Since the update, whenever I delete a video from my iPodafter watching it, it seems to not be completely gone. By that I mean that when I plug it to my computer, the deleted videos still appear on my iPod (not on the iTunes part - most often, they're already deleted from my computer anyway) and I have to delete them from my iPod on iTunes as well. Anyone else has that problem and/or knows how to fix this? Thanks

    No one?

  • Will updating the software on my iPod video delete everything on it?

I want to update my ipod's software version (1.0 to 1.2 i think). I'm afraid this will delete all of my videos/songs that i no longer have on my computer.
Also, anybody know why it wont let me put album art onto my iPod?
    Thanks in advance
    PC   Windows XP

If you have room on your computer, first thing you might want to try and do is move the stuff off the iPod back onto the computer before the update...

  • IPhone video deleted, but still on my iMac. How to copy it back?

I accidently deleted a video from my "Photos" app on my iPhone 4. The video had already been transferred to my iMac, so I didn't lose it, but I do want to get it back onto my iPhone.
Since the video is over 50MB, it isn't practical for me to email it to my iPhone. Is there another way to do this? I do have a MobileMe account, but I'm not sure if this would be of any help in doing so.

Sync it back to your iphone like any other video/movie:

  • IMovie video deleting

On iMovie, I've realized if you delete the videos taken and put in the movie from your camera roll, it takes It out of the movie. Now I can't get my movie back. How do I keep my movies and not have to keep all the Videos I took? Please help!

iMovie links projects to the source files in the camera roll.
You would need to export the video to the camera roll to keep the video.
This essentially 'renders' an edited version of the video, as it is made in iMovie.
Then you can delete the source videos.
Otherwise you will lose the video in iMovie if you delete it form the camera roll.
iMovie is not a video archiving app, it is made to edit video then save out a final video.

  • IOS   video   delete

Has anyone been able to delete a video from the video library in the iOS version 2.0 of iMovie? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to delete videos from here. I can find how to delete them from the Theater menu, but not the Video menu. HELP!!

If you sync video, you cannot delete it straight from iMovie.
You need to use iTunes and un-sync it.
If you shot video directly with device within iMovie Project, you can manage local media by doing this:
    In iMovie iOS Project
In Project Timeline DELETE CLIPS that you no longer need
    Open Video Bin
    Tap "All" icon
    Tap "Manage local Media"
    Tap Done
In the Video Bin you will see two icons to the right of all clips you shot locally on device and those you imported via iMovie Sharing function in iTunes.
Red icon is a trash can. Tap it. Clip is now gone.
If you attempt to delete in Video Bin before removing your clips in Timeline, you will get a warning saying that you are about to delete clips that are in USE
