URL Customization Using Experience Rules

We've got a bit of a sticky problem and am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
We've used experience rules to point custom URLs to communities. However, when another user types in a URL to access a community on the portal, the previous URL appears as a link in every navigation link and login on the portal. In other words, the minute the user chooses a link from the dropdown menu or logs in, they are taken to the previous community. Thereafter, the header, footer and colors from the rules of the previous community show up in every community the user goes to.
This is extremely frustrating and confusing to our users. It appears that URLs are being cached in the navigation and/or experience rules configuration is overriding.
Has anyone else had this experience? Is there a way around this problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Experience rule question (a possible limitation?)

    Hi,
    I am using experience rule/subportal to show users customized layout for our communities. I expect the users will see the customized layout right after they log into the portal. I achieved the customized layout/menus using adaptive tags in a custom header portlet.
    The problem is many communities in our oganization has custom community header which will overwrite my subportal's header. So in my experience rule, I need to specify my experience definition only applies to certain users when they access certain communities(e.g. communities in this subportal).
    However I found out that users will automaticly go to the My Page in the default experience definition and my customized exeperience definition only take effect when I go to my community. If I don't add the community constraints in my experience rule, the user will directly go to the correct definition. However this is not an option since many other communities' headers will overwrite my menu system and make the portal not navigatable.
    I wish the community constraint also include "My Page" so my experience definition will always work.
    Have you encountered the same problem? Any suggestions?

    You can create an experience rule against a particular portal URL by going into the Admin section: Select Utility: Experience Rules Manager.
    Name the rule, add an experience definition, and then add your URL.
    I haven't tried it but I assume this would solve your issue?

  • Getting an Experience Rule to work

    I am building a demo site and have set up an new experience def - it has a custom header, footer, css.
    This is on my development box and of course there is a default exp. def that is different.
    The regular URL would be disco-dev.ads.net
    and the demo site (same ip addresss) would be
    disco-demo.ads.net
    I then set up a custom experience rule in the experience manager that has only the URL rule set up it is
    http://disco-demo.ads.net/portal/server.pt?
    I am logging in as the admin (who is in the default exp def folder) and I do not get taken to the Demo experience.
    When I look at the debug messages I have this:

    Condition on Base URL returning false because the URL Domain: disco-demo.ads.net/portal/server.pt? does not match the one found in the user's environment: disco-demo.ads.net/portal/server.pt

    What does this mean???

    When you create a new rule, the portal URL section states: 'between the 'http(s)://' and '?' in 'server.pt?'. So don't include /portal/server.pt on the end or http(s):// at the beginning.<br>
    Change your portal url to this: disco-demo.ads.net
    <br>
    We use wildcards a lot in our rules and they work just fine.
    Many of ours also use this: mydomainname.com/

              (2)Some times we have situations based on certain input field validations

  • Help needed in using oracle rules SDK

    Hi,
    For testing my rulesets using oracle rules SDK I doing the following:
    1. Creation of dictionary, ruleSet.
    2. Declared two kinds of globalVariable variables in my datamodel :
    Final and non-Final.(Type of these varaibles are String and Double only)
    3. Final globalVaraibles are used in creating rule's patterns.
    4. Non-Final globalVariables are used in creating rule's action.
    5. Functions are created for asserting globalVariables values and
    returning non-final varaibles, since those are required as action
    results.
    6. In java code I am testing my ruleset (dict.testRuleSet()). Before
    testing i am populating my final global variables (since these are used
    in rule's patterns),
    and updating datamodel.
    The above procedure is working fine and I rules are successfully working.
    Now, first of all i want to know if the above mentioned approach is correct or it needs to be reframed??
    secondly, when i update datamodel with values (in java code itself) it
    takes 4-5 seconds in updating it. This is the main issue that why it is
    taking this much time??
    any comment would be of great help.

  • Which URL to use to open a financial report from a Task list ?

    Hi,
    I've got a big issue in Hyperion Planning : I do not know which URL to use to open a financial report from a task list.
    If I use the Smartcut (given when you do a right-click on the report, then Properties), a tab is opening (normal behaviour), but another tab is opening under the tab, which is very ugly, and moreover which prevent from using the PDF/HTML display icons !
    Is someone know which URL to use to display correctly a financial report when opening it from a task list ?
    It's an emergency, please help !

    Hi,
    OK, thanks, it almost works !!
    I've just a problem. 2 tabs are opening.
    One is opening correctly and displays my report. I can display it in PDF/HTML.
    But another tab is opening with this message : This window can now be closed since the application has been launched in a separate window. Note: Popup blockers may prevent this application from working properly.
    Do you know why this tab is opening ?

  • How to tune data loading time in BSO using 14 rules files ?

    Hello there,
    I'm using Hyperion-Essbase-Admin-Services v11.1.1.2 and the BSO Option.
    In a nightly process using MAXL i load new data into one Essbase-cube.
    In this nightly update process 14 account-members are updated by running 14 rules files one after another.
    These rules files connect 14 times by sql-connection to the same oracle database and the same table.
    I use this procedure because i cannot load 2 or more data fields using one rules file.
    It takes a long time to load up 14 accounts one after other.
    Now my Question: How can I minimise this data loading time ?
    This is what I found on Oracle Homepage:

    Is the upper table design what GlennS mentioned as a "Data" column concept which only allows a single numeric data value ?
    In this case I cant tag two or more columns as “Data fields”. I just can tag one column as “Data field”. Other data fields I have to tag as “ignore fields during data load”. Otherwise, when I validate the rules file, an Error occurs “only one field can contain the Data Field attribute”.
    Or may I skip this error massage and just try to tag all 14 fields as “Data fields” and “load data” ?
    Please advise.
    Am I right that the other way is to reconstruct the table/view (and the rules files) like follows to load all of the data in one pass:

  • How can I remove a flag using a rule in Mail.app?

    I'm using Mail Act-On to flag messages that are important. I also have got a smart mailbox that displays only those messages that are flagged, this is my "To Do" mailbox.
    Once I've read and answered the message I want to remove the flag, preferrably via a rule using Mail Act-On as well. However in the rules dialog in the Mail.app preferences there's only the option to set a flag, not to remove one.
    Can anyone help: how can I remove a flag using a rule?? Maybe via Applescript as the last resort?

    I haven't gotten around to put unread and unflag into Mail-ActOn but MailTags has the functionality. MailTags also allows you to mark a message unread via act-On rule.
    It is interesting to note that apple doesn't include unflag and unread as the rules were originally intended to apply only to new messages (of which none should be read or flagged) with that logic, there would be no need for unread, unflagg.
    @David: The reason to do it via Act-On rule would be to set up a sequence of events, one of which is to unflag, others may be to set keywords, move messages, set colors etc.

    I tell a friend if he is emailing me on a particular subject, is there something he can do at his end ([email protected]/research)
    like adding the word research at the end of my eamil address that would tell my inbox to place that in the inbox/research folder?
    If I have to use a rule on my end, then do I tell him to just place the word research in the subjct line and then I write a rule to place anything with the word research in the subject line in my inbox/research folder?
    will the subject line be required to only have the one word research to work, or will the rule look for any presense of that word in the subject line?

    iCloud email supports 'plus' addressing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address#Address_tags
    So your friend could just add '+research' to the username part of your email address, and you setup a rule at icloud.com to put all emails sent to that address into a particular folder.
    For example:
    [email protected]
    There's no way to do it without rules on the server though.

  • Performance Issue in using Oracle Rules SDK!!!!

    I am using Oracle rules SDK. I have created a dictionary and declared 9 global variables in it. Now, before testing my ruleset in my code, I populate those variables and update datamodel.

    Now the issue is that time taken by dataModel.update() is freaking 4210 milliseconds, i.e 4.2 seconds. Any idea why this is slow??

    I am trying to configure a URL dynamically using variable range values. There are two variables which I pass to the URL, Sales Document Number and Posting Date. Sales Document Number has a single value and Posting Date is a range variable. The single value for sales document is passed to the URL but the date range is not passed and hence the web template gets the blank value for the date and shows the variable screen as this is mandatory.         I am implementing the workflow project nowaday ,and when I use the rule to determine the step's agent , I often come across all kinds of strange problem and I do not know how to slove it goodly ,for example I do not know how to get the agent from orgainization unit etc .
    can anybody give me some advices or some relevant docments(I have read the SAP standard material BIT601/BIT603/BIT610) .thank a lot .

    Yes , you can define your own rule. You need to populate the table of type SWHACTOR with whatever agents you want to maintain . See the below code :

  • Building arguments of URL when using HTTP Adapter

    I am using the HTTP adapter in one of my interfaces and need to call an url that has arguments. For e.g.
    http://dpw6716.roseville.mycompany.com:8058/accelis/servlet/publish?type=create&ItemId=1018&Name=Harshad&Desc=FromXI
    In the above URL the <b>ItemID</b> and the <b>Description</b> are dynamic. Is it possible to build such dynamic urls and used in the http adapter configuration? if so how? Can context objects be used here for the dynamic part?

    Hi Harshad,
    it is possible to build up dynamic URLs, but the way is quite complex. You have to configure a XI-mandant as "Application System" to use it as allocator. Your message will be received there in an inbound-proxy (ABAP), where you have to implement a dynamic WAS-Request (class CL_HTTP_CLIENT).
