URL getContent failing to determine content type
Within my application I am trying to load a file using the URL class. The file is deployed to the web directory /reports/report.txt. If I use the following code it returns to me the message "no content-type" and fails to load the content of the file. I am not sure how to get this to determine the content type or what I need to modify to get this to load the file. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Stirng templateUrl = "/myApp/reports/reports.txt";
URL url = new URL("http", "localhost", 7001, templateUrl);
URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
logger.debug("content type: " + conn.getContentType());

Does this file exist localhost/myApp/reports/report.txt ?
If it does type in localhost/myApp/reports/report.txt and it should show in your browser.
If not, then yes, you don't have any content there.

Hi Team,
I need to access Java web service which is simple service and accepts and returns XML over HTTP. No credentials are needed to access the service. We need to pass following two HTTP headers (Content-Type and Authorization) along with XML request message:
<GetStatus> message is being constructed in the orchestration and URI is constant to access.
Which adapter shall I use to get the response back? I tried using WCF-WSHttp with Security Mode = Transport, and different options of client credential types but every time, error returned stating:
System.Net.WebException:
The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Basic'. The
authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm='.
Authentication failed for principal Basic. Message payload is of type:
String
In Fiddler, request looks line following
POST <https://URL/GetServiceReopnse HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: application/xml
Authorization: Basic cmVmU3RhdHN2Y19kgeRfsdfs=
Host: <Server name>
<GetStatus XMLNS="http://server.com/.....">
<OrgId>232323</OrgId>
<HubId>3232342323</HubId>
</GetStatus>
MMK-007First, you should not use the HTTP Adapter because it's been deprecated and replaced by WCF.
Start with the WCF-Custom Adapter and select the customBinding.
You should start with the textMessageEncoder and httpTransport and go from there. -
Unable to change content types for pptx, xslx and docx files
I'm running into an issue where I cannot change the content type of any xml-based Office documents. Here's what I've done:
1 - Create a custom content (A) type based off the Document content type
2 - Enable the custom content type in a document library
3 - Add a document or select an existing document and edit the content type to the custom content type
4 - The custom content type will save for documents such as .ppt, .doc, etc. The custom content type will now save for .docx, .pptx or .xlsx files. The properties window will save without displaying any errors but the content type will not change
I ran several tests including creating another custom content type (B) based off of the Document content type. I proved that:
The custom content type (B) can be saved to .docx, .pptx or .xlsx files IF no additional columns are added to the custom content type
As soon as I add a column to the custom content type the aforementioned documents cannot be saved as that custom content type
Documents created through the File option in a document library also fail to change content type to the custom content type when saved. Most of my files are .docx, .pptx, or .xlsx files, and this issue poses a significant roadblock in our SharePoint roll-out.
I appreciate any advise you can provide.Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the custom content type could not save with .docx, pptx and xlsx files when with a additional column.
I tested with your issue as the steps below, the custom content type worked well.
Create a custom column Doc1
Create a custom content type Doc1, the parent content type from chose the Document Content Types, Parent Content Type chose Document.
Add the custom Doc1 to the custom content type Doc1.
Add the custom content type into the library LIbA.
Upload the files with .docx, .pptx and .xlsx files into the library with the custom content type, they all save well with the custom content type.
I also create other content type with other Parent Content Type, they all worked.
Did the issue occur in other library? You can create a new library then use the custom content type to check whether it works.
You can also use the other browsers to check whether it works, such as Chrome, Firefox.
Thanks & Regards,

Deleting the content type hub site collection
Hi
I have a content type hub (CTH) site that sits in it's own web app
In the managed metadata service app properties the "URL of the site collection (Content Type hub) from which this service application will consume content types" is specified as the CTH
The CTH site has become corrupted - I want to delete the site collection
If I do this will the URL field in MMS properties become available again so that I can enter a new value - or will I have to delete the whole MMS app and start again
Any help much appreciated
Cheers
JonjHi,
Try through the PowerShell script to delete the site collection. and once you manage to delete the site collection, create a new site collection and use the same content type that is a part of Content type hub.
Remove-SPSite -Identity "URL"
Where:
<URL> is the URL of the site collection you want to delete.
Thanks

I'm fairly new to Sharepoint and Infopath. I hope someone here can help me.
I have a large Infopath form with ~90 fields on it. When I try to publich to the server, I get "Updating [or Creating] Content Type Failed".
I determined this to be due to the number of fields and some sort of time out issue with Infopath. I have seen a few other posts on that and the only solution I've seen is to publish with fewer fields - that does indeed work, but it doesn't solve my problem as I need all of these fields.
I've also seen a solution to publish with fewer fileds successfully and then republish with all you need and that the "Failed" message won't matter. Kinda true, but then I have an issue with it no longer opening in browser.
So then, I tried publishing it to my desktop and uploading it through Central Admin, activating it to a site collection, and using it that way. That actually works the best so far, but then I get no option to select my Parent Content Type - it just picks "Form" - and that also doesn't work for me. I need to select Parent Content Type
Then, I tried to Create a new CT from scratch and point it to the form template I recently uploaded. I get to pick my parent and all, but none of the promoted properties are there, so they don't show up in my workflow, and that's the end of that route.
Now, I am out of ideas (but you can't say I didn't try)
Anyone out there have any suggestions that could help me?
ThanksWe were running into a similar issue where ~90% of the time the publication of a complex InfoPath form would fail. It looks like a timeout issue with the webservice, but it's hard to say. We came up with a different approach that seems to have solved the problem for us. I just posted details on my blog (http://acuffgroup.com/2009/01/21/tip-for-publishing-infopath-form-to-sharepoint-library/) but the summary is: don't have InfoPath re-create the columns on each publish event. Rather have it connect to existing columns, which you can specify in the publishing wizard. This change fixed our issue and looks like it's going to save us a lot of time moving forward. Check out the post and leave a comment if this helps, or if you've got other insights you can add.

My Environment is Weblogic 6.1 SP2 on WIN2K.
I have an HTTP client sending an HTTP request with
Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded
the data in HTTP request is in UTF-8. Note that HTTP client does not specify charset=UTF-8
as part of the Content-Type.
I have a servlet "VosXmlEvents" processing this HTTP request.
The HTTP request contains data like “Zoë” which the servlet below
interprets as “Zoë” causing me to think that my deployment settings
might be wrong.
My Deployment settings:
In weblogic.xml deployment descriptor I have specified following:
<charset-params>
<!-- I specified this so that I can tell to weblogic that HTTP request data is
UTF-8 so weblogic can successfully convert it to ISO-8859-1 as per Java servlet
spec.-->
<input-charset>
<resource-path>/vos/events/xml/*</resource-path>
<!-- I tried both UTF8 and UTF-8 and got same results-->
<java-charset-name>UTF8</java-charset-name>
</input-charset>
<!-- I specified the the settings below just to be on the safe side, as I have
seen java documentation, newsgroups etc. using slightly different, names for the
same char encoding/canonical names . Java uses MIME preferred names,I think I
dont have to do this but I hope specifying these should not do any harm either,
am I correct in assuming it? (see reference 1 and 2. below for details)-->
<charset-mapping>
<iana-charset-name>ISO_8859-1:1987</iana-charset-name>
<java-charset-name>ISO-8859-1</java-charset-name>
</charset-mapping>
<charset-mapping>
<iana-charset-name>ISO_8859-1:1987</iana-charset-name>
<java-charset-name>ISO8859_1</java-charset-name>
</charset-mapping>
<charset-mapping>
<iana-charset-name>UTF-8</iana-charset-name>
<java-charset-name>UTF-8</java-charset-name>
</charset-mapping>
<charset-mapping>
<iana-charset-name>UTF-8</iana-charset-name>
<java-charset-name>UTF8</java-charset-name>
</charset-mapping>
</charset-params>
My web.xml has:
<servlet>
<servlet-name>VosXmlEvents</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>some class name</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>VosXmlEvents</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/vos/events/xml/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
According to Servlet spec. 2.3 sec. SRV.4.9 Request data encoding, cut pasting
from spec below:
"Currently, many browsers do not send a char encoding qualifier with the Content-Type
header, leaving open the determination of the character encoding for reading HTTP
requests. The default encoding of a request the container uses to create the request
reader and parse POST data must be “ISO-8859-1”, if none has been
specified by the client request. However, in order to indicate to the developer
in this case the failure of the client to send a character encoding, the container
returns null from the getCharacterEncoding method.
If the client hasn’t set character encoding and the request data is encoded
with a different encoding than the default as described above, breakage can occur.
To remedy this situation, a new method setCharacterEncoding(String enc) has been
added to the ServletRequest interface. Developers can override the
character encoding supplied by the container by calling this method. It must be
called prior to parsing any post data or reading any input from the request. Calling
this method once data has been read will not affect the encoding."
Q1. Should not <input-charset> related settings in weblogic.xml for a servlet
helps container actually do some thing like setCharacterEncoding(String enc) on
HTTP Request before it call the servlet?
Q2. If not then that would mean I have to programatically call setCharacterEncoding(String
enc)to correctly interpret my HTTP Request?
Q3. If the answer to Q1 is "yes" then I will assume that getInputStream() or getReader()
methods on the HttpServletRequest will give the chacter in the client encoded
format which in this case is UTF-8, i.e I will get "Zoë" as in this example. Am
I correct here?

1. http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs70/webapp/components.html#139932
2. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/intl/encoding.doc.htmlStefan,
Thanks for the information. I have the following question then.
The Webserver I am interacting with does not recognize user and password provided in the channel. It accepts user and pwd in payload and in application/x-www-form-urlencoded content type only.
Sample Raw Post that server server requires looks like this
User=yourname&Password=yourpassword&INPUT_XML=%3C%3Fxmlversion%3D%221.0%22standalone%3D%22no%22%3F%3E%3CDELIVERY%3E%3CMESSAGE%3E%0D%0A++++%3CDESTINATION_ADDR%3E%2B447900570205%3C%2FDESTINATION_ADDR%3E%%3C%2FMESSAGE%3E%0D%0A%0D%0A%3C%2FDELIVERY%3E%
What i have done is that constructed the post manually in Java code in un encoded form and expected the HTTP Adapter to do the encoding. Having done this, the HTTP Server is able to scuccessfully parse the xml except for & and < , > chars which err out as invalid XML.
Is there an elegant way of doing above scenario using XML post and standard HTTP Adapter.

URL Manipulation when content-type is application/json (with UAG 2010)
Hey,
I got a website published through HTTPS trunk (UAG2010) which works with "application/json" content type at some parts (AJAX objects).
The parts which use applicaton/json content-type are loaded with a bad URL's on the client side (the internal URLs)
How can i configure that UAG will manipulate this content-type? (so the HAT mechanism will manipulate these get requests and responses)
Thank you, Idan.Hi Idan,
We had a similar issue with internal links not being translated for a particular UAG published website. You'll need to run fiddler or httpwatch from a UAG client to identify the failing URL link extension types, eg .jsp and .RF
Open the trunk configuration, and select the portal tab, click
edit under Search and Replace Response Content.
Under Servers, put the fqdn of the web server / publishing address, and under URLs, add the identified extensions.
We also had to have a custom WhlFiltSecureRemote_HTTPS.xml file created under
Von\Conf\Websites\%trunk_name%\conf\CustomUpdate
which included the defined application type for the published website, and tells UAG when to use the search and replace parser.
Hope that helps.

Get original URL for Link to a Document content type
Hello,
I'm having a SharePoint doc library with ItemAdded event receiver attached to it and "Link to a Document" content type enabled. My general question is:
How to get URL that the link points to?
I'll show you how I'm trying to achieve that:
SPWeb parentWeb = properties.Web;
if (properties.ListItem.ContentType.Name == LinkContentTypeName)
object urlFieldValue = properties.AfterProperties["URL"];
if (urlFieldValue != null && urlFieldValue.ToString() != String.Empty)
// continue
But I always get null so I can't even get inside IF statement. I've tried to install ItemAdded event receiver as synchronous, but it didn't make a difference. I'd appreciate any ideas.
Regards
TomaszThis is not very convenient solution, because ItemUpdated can be executed more than once. However this certainly will work, so I'll accept this as a workaround. Actually I've found another one. I'm parsing link aspx file and I'm getting the URL

Changing the Site URL of a Sharepoint site changes the content type order
Description
Changing the Site URL of a Sharepoint site changes the content type order of all lists that
* contain folder content types
* and have a custom content type order
* where a folder content type is the first content type in order.
Reproducible behaviour
1. Create a Team Site in Sharepoint
2. Create a Task List "Test" on the Team Site
3. Go to List Settings
4. The Content Type order is by default
a. Task
b. Summary Task
5. Change the Content Type Order to
a. Summary Task
b. Task
6. Go To Site Settings "Title, description and icon"
7. Change the Site Url
8. Go To List "Test" List Settings
9. The Content Type order now is
a. Task
b. Summary Task
10. Select "Change New button order and default content type"
11. Here, the Content Type order still is
a. Summary Task
b. Task
Is this a bug? Has anyone noticed this behaviour before?
Kind Regards,
JoachimHi Joachim,
You are not missing something or doing something wrong. i Hope :). This behavior is reproductible.
The granularity of change is better by Powershell. But by the interface is most user-friendly.
Maybe that's the reason of this behavior.

Content-Type ignored when URL ends in tar.gz
Seems as of 10.5 Safari no longer bothers to check the Content-Type header of the HTTP response with urls that end in tar.gz and instead just downloads them to the Downloads folder. The apache.org mirror system has URLs in this fashion as part of it's mirror selecting cgi script.
For example if you browse to http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/openejb/3.0/openejb-3.0-src.tar.gz you should see a page showing you possible mirrors. Here's a copy of the server response showing correct headers:
