URL paths in Code/Design view

I just inherited a site that has a lot of images that are all hard coded (absolute URLs), and unfortunately, there are spaces in the path/ file names, such as /Main Folder/images/Picture File.jpg. When you plug the URLs into a browser or into DW code view, the spaces are filled in with %20 to represent spaces such as /Main%20Folder/images/Picture%20File.jpg
My goal is to have the images appear in the Design View, instead of the broken url gray image. It seems that only image url's without any spaces or without any %20 appear in Design View. Does anyone know how to make an image with %20 in the URL appear in Design View? Thanks!
(yes, I know that renaming the paths is the best solution, but this site is too big at this point, and I don't have any way to update thousands of files at a time)

Believe me Thomas, I know exactly what you are going through. I used to work for a company that used an archaic ecommerce platform called Marketlive. It was a beast, but caused more problems than what it was worth. But the companies that have grown with them have become so big they are afraid of change themselves. Unfortunately, you just have to make with what you have. Personally I'd still try to push about the paths because a find and replace could still be done ont he database side, although a bit more complicated than DW's because you would have to write a query to replace the values, but still possible. Honestly, I would just do without the preview and just code as if DW is your text editor and then upload and test. I wish there was a better answer, but even when I was in the tough situation that's what I worked with. If they don't like how time consuming it can be that way, then you need to show management how you could save time and money.

Is it possible to have the same Split Code/Design view in CS5 that I had in CS3?

I am not a hard coder. However, like HTML, I could easily edit PHP in CS3 Dreamweaver's Split Code/Design view. It was more designer friendly, intuitive, etc. I could see/edit/move tables, placed graphics, text, etc. CS5 doen't allow me to see my PHP pages this way. Can this be fixed to have the same Split Code/Design view? I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

To restore the cs3 style horizontal split of code and design views, go to the 'view' drop down menu and untick 'split vertically'.

What is the Path/ T-code to view the A/R customer account to view the clearing document (I have FI document number)

Can be done in multiple ways.
As you have the FI doc. no., you can use FB03.
(ii) Execute FBL5N, enter customer number, company code, choose 'cleared items' checkbox, enter clearing date and execute. Then double-click on the clearing document number.

Dreamweaver SPLIT CODE/DESIGN VIEW?

Hello.
I'm running Dreamweaver CS3. I have dual 22" monitors and I
want to be able to see the design view and code view of a single
page at the same time vertically not horizontally. Right now when I
hit the SPLIT the windows are on top of each other. Is there a way
to make them beside each other or apart or something?
I also tried running two instances of Dreamweaver but that
didn't work either. This really sucks because I want to be able to
see my full design while I edit the code/css.

CS5 Code & Design View Problems?

In earlier versins of Dreamweaver whenever I as in the deisgn view and I clicked around different pieces of text the cursor would jump to that text section in code view....Now it doesn't seem to work at all? Not sure why it is stuck in code view??

Are you viewing a HTML or PHP file?
If not, you won't get Design View.

Problem With Code/Design View Buttons

(My bad...perhaps a more clear title will help...)
OK, I am working with DW CS4 v.10.0 Build 4117 on a Win XP Pro SP3 platform.
When working with my site files, they open in Code view. The Split and Design buttons are grayed out. When I click on the Layout button, the checkmark is sometimes next to the Code option, but sometimes next to the Design option (even though the page is clearly displayed only in Code view!).
In order to view the file in Design view or Split view, I have to click the Layout button, Click on Code, click on the Layout button again, click on Design or Split View and then it will show the page file in that manner.
This is SO frustrating! Is this a bug in CS4? (I scanned through the other topics and can't seem to find anything about this.) I don't remember having this problem with CS3 and have spoken with other DW CS3 users who also say they have never had this happen.
What can I do?

Design view goes blank [CS3]

I usually work with split code + design view
When working with certain files and make a change in code
view(or in a linked .css), and then click in Design view, the
Design view goes totally or partially blank. Either nothing appears
at all, or the content appears up to some point, and the rest up to
the end is blank.
Once this happens, there is absolutely no way to make the
'hidden' content visible. Tried to switch to another file, to
select code in code view, to edit in code view or even in design
view - no go. I have to close / open the file, and then it appears
normally. But indeed I can't do this every minite, is there some
solution known?
There is no stuff with visibility set to hidden or alike, if
the content is displayed - it's displayed correctly. Also looks OK
in all major browsers.

This often happens when you have added such garbage code that
DW cannot
figure out what to do with it. For example, adding a
<body> or </body> tag
in the middle of a page can do such things. Might that be
what's happening
for you?

Page Content Won't Display in Contribute (Edit Mode) or Dreamweaver (Design View)

I have pages on my site that have decided they don't want to display content either in Contribute (in edit
mode) or in DreamWeaver (in design view). They always look fine in Live view, prior to hitting the 'edit' button or when viewing in a browser. Using CS4 on Windows XP. I use Contribute for small edits and this renders that tool useless as there is no WYSIWYG. It's a pain in Dreamweaver to have to keep previewing in browser when I'm used to working in code/design view. Any help most appreciated. Here's the page I'm currently having the problem with:

Images broken in design view on new computer paths leading to old harddrive?

I recently got a new imac and installed cs5 dreamweaver ( I was using dreamweaver 8 but it no longer works in mountain lion) . I redfined the site all was fine then I must have done something and now suddenly all my images are broken in design view and in brower and live view! The site shows the images online from the server but everything is broken in design view. The directory is a mess as I used way too may subfolders when I first did the site but it's too large to start over. I tried deleting the site from my harddrive all together and creating a new folder for it and just getting the entire site from the server but the images still don't show. I don't want to have to go to every page on the site and fix broken links! I can pull an image into a page by browsing to the folder on my harddrive but they are not appearing anymore on their own. If the images were uploaded originally from another computer and the folder being used now for the site on my harddrive is different that won't break the image paths will it? It all worked fine until a few days ago. What I don't understand is I thought the images wouldn't show if they were only on the server and not on my harddrive but since I just GOT the site from the server, all the images ARE now on my harddrive in the new folder so why still nothing showing? I I tried right clicking the broken images and showing design notes they seem to be lookin for a path to my old computer where the harddrive was named differently than it is now. Is there ANY way to fix this? What about renaming my harddrive to the old name?
Greatful for any advice but I am very much a newbie so not sure I will be able to do what I need to.

Spaces in folder/filenames are not a good practice. Space are converted to %20 on the server. DW's Design View often can't reconcile this. Best advice is to remove the spaces and use underscores _ or hyphens -

Some pages are missing an HTML doc type declaration. This sends browsers into Quirks Mode.

Path issue leaving me unable to add blog post content in design view

Hi guys,
I am unable to add blog post content in design view when a template is applied to my blog. BC support have told me they fixed the problem by making minor changes to the paths of the css and javascript files and then told me to post on here for the solution.
When I call the files using <link rel="stylesheet" href="/css/custom.css" /> everything displays perfectly but in BC I can't add blog post content in design view. I can edit in html but this isn't ideal for clients to update the blog.
If I change the paths to <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/custom.css" /> it fixes the problem and I can then edit blog content in design view but all blog pages that are in folders display incorrectly. Only the main blog page display properly.
I'm sure the answer is simple but I can't find it so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I took a look at your page URL and can't find any CSS issues or styles that would directly affect you editing/adding content to a blog post via the content editor.
Make sure you either clear your cache or try in another browser to see if the problem is localized to your current browser.
If you still have the problem can you link me to a screencast (you can use Jing if you don't have a screencast program: http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html) of what you are experiencing?

Dreamweaver CS6 for Mac: Is there a way to display the file path in Design View?

Under Windows, DW's Design View shows you the path to the current file, right next to the document tab. I noticed the Mac version omits this handy feature. For those of us who work with lots of similarly named files distinguished only by folders, being able to quickly see what folder we're in is crucial. (see image below -- that's where Windows shows you the path, but is blank in Mac)
Is there something I'm missing, or some way to get that functioning? I know that I can see the path if I switch to Live View, but that is kludgy and breaks my workflow.

I use CoderPlus workspace & tabbed panels. For me, the file url is on the far right side. See screenshot.
If you click the "Page Icon" in upper right corner to tile, the URL shows on the left side.

Code hints and Design view preview missing

Using FB with Flex sdk 3.3 and AFCS SDK 0.91. I installed the
SDK per the instructions in the ACFS dev guide. I then added the
FP9 afcs.swc to my project build path and compile for fp 9.0.124
The sample apps do compile and run.
However
1. I am getting no code hinting for the acfs classes
2. IN design view, the components show as white rectangles
with red x's and obscure the flex components
3. The design view>components view, the acfs folder is
empty, while the "custom" folder is full of acfs components.
Any idea as to what might be incorrect?

Hi Will,
I think it turns out we made a slight error in the dev guide
in the setup instructions - we mention that you should link the
AFCS source into your project in order to debug. Unfortunately this
seems to override the useful metadata baked into the SWC which
makes the SDK work with FB more seamlessly.
Advice : Remove the source path, then go to the library
path. Where you see AFCS.swc, expand it and select "source
attachment". Hit the edit button and add the source path there.
This seems to do the trick, allowing you to debug into the code
without overriding the swc itself.
We'll get the docs fixed up to reflect this better way to
set up the SDK.

VB code not showing in Design View

I am working with a form that has VB code for validation and need to style it with CSS. The problem is the form is not visible in Design View. The code is there, the page renders and works fine in a browser but has anyone seen this issue before? I have a similar form that uses C# and it shows up fine in Design view.

Display problems are most often caused by malformed code or an imbalance in opening and closing <div> tags. Try validating your code and fix reported errors.

Dreamweaver CC crashes when switching from code view to design view

I am experiencing a recent problem with a file I am currently working. When I switch from code view to design view Dreamweaver crashes and requests a shut down. Other files seem to work without a problem. This particular files has 3 cascading EdgeAnimation CC files that are selected by media queries. I can test the page online without a problem but not in design or live view.

Since your new page didn't crash, this leads me to believe that you have some critical errors and/or conflicts in your other page(s).
Try running your code through the W3C validation tools.
