USB Edgeport

Anyone here have a working Digi USB Edgeport running on solaris 10 X86 ?
I have it configured, the device nodes were automatically created and it shows as connected, configured and running ...
usb2/3 connected configured ok Mfg: Inside Out Networks Product: Edgeport/8 NConfigs: 1 Config: 0 : Configuration #1
Tried with both 32 and 64 bit kernels.
But I cannot cat anything to the ports /dev/term/0 etc and if I add the device to a ttymon eventually the port monitor fails.

In answer to your first question, no, after installing or reinstalling the adapter I can get one adapter only to work, to get the other to work I need to uninstall and reinstall in a different order.
I Didn't try using Hyperterminal
As far as the USB connection, I've tried  two ways, 1) connecting the first 16 port box to the PC's USB and connecting the second 4 port box the 16 port box's expansion USB port. 2) connected each box to it's own PC USB port.
I know the code works I've used it for over a year with no problems, Labview does not talk to the device asevidenced by the device's debug mode display not being activated and the lack of data being returned. If I specify a nonexistant port Labview will time out (as expected) I try a port that is configured and a divice is connected to that port Labview either returns data and the debug display on the device lights up, or Labview does not return data and debug is not lit-up but Labview  does not timeout. If I disconnect the device (from a working port) and repeat, Labview times out and does not return any data (as expected), the odd thing is if I disconnect the device from the non-working port and repeat Labview does not time out or give any error.
I do not try to talk to multiple ports simultaniously.

  • Use Prolific based USB-to-Serial with Solaris 10

    Hi all,
I currently use a Dynex DX-UBDB9 adapter, which is a Prolific PL-2303 based USB-to-Serial adaptor and it seem to be working OK in almost all situations (with Sun Ray, my laptop, and so on).
I put it in the USB port #0 on a Sun Fire V240, and the server saw it:
    # cd /dev/cua
    # ls -al

I followed the procedure on the Sun site for using a "tip" connection (the procedure is for a Edgeport device, and is described at: http://www.sun.com/io_technologies/USB-Faq.html#Serial point #4), and I added the following line to the "/etc/remote" file:
    u0:\
:dv=/dev/cua/0:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:oe=^D:but I'm not able to use it for a "tip" connection yet. I get this error:
    # tip u0
tip: /dev/cua/0: No such device or address
all ports busyIs there someone here who could help me out getting a functionning "tip" session using my Prolific based USB-to-Serial adapter?
    Thanks in advance!!

Hi Martin and thanks for the reply. This is very strange to me, because when in use on a Sun Ray station, I can use this adapter - from my Sun Ray station - to make a tip connection!! But when I connect it directly to the V240 server, I'm not able to.

  • Multiple serial ports reading from a shared USB port

I have a program that reads from 4 flow controllers, which send data through RS232 serial ports. Because the computer is located pretty far away, the vendor suggested to use an Edgeport box to convert RS232 to USB, then convert to ethernet port using a SuperBooster converter. The signal travels long distance in ethernet cable to the computer and get converted back to USB, then to the computer. In MAX, I was able to see 8 com ports from the Edgeport box, and I was able to communicate with my flow controllers.
The problem is, it will give me some error message occasionally. Sometime it's a VISA Read error, sometime it's a VISA framing error. Could this be caused by the way the signal is transmitted?
In the program I have four parallel WHILE loops that constantly do READ and WRITE to the 4 flow controllers. Could this be causing the errors? If so, what is the best strategy to design this program?
    Thanks

I agree with Mike, you will need an error handling strategy that accounts for these errors.  And retries the communications.  This can be a little tricky, but very doable.  I believe some sort of statemachine approach will work best for this.
As for your heated probe.  I would make some sort of hardware interlock that will shut it down in case of a coolant failure.  NEVER, EVER trust the computer to be running where safety is concerned, either for personal or hardware.  There are plenty of ICs that can monitor temperature, and have warning, and alarm outputs!  Another option is some sort of watchdog on the communications bus for the coolant control, but I think this is a bit more tricky.

Solaris Express (Solaris 10 beta) has the "usbser_edge" driver.
    DESCRIPTION
The usbser_edge  driver  is  a  loadable  STREAMS  and  USBA
(Solaris USB architecture) compliant client driver that pro-
vides basic  asynchronous  communication  support  for  Digi
Edgeport USB-to-serial converters. Supported devices include
         Edgeport/1,     Edgeport/2,     Edgeport/21,     Edgeport/4,
         Edgeport/421,  Edgeport/8,  and  Edgeport/416.
...The usbser_edge driver is also included in Solaris 9 x86 4/2004, but only for the new
USBA1.0 driver stack. This could be a problem if the Edgeport devices are USB 1.x,
and you have an UHCI USB controller in the laptop, because Solaris 9 x86 4/2004 does
not have an USBA1.0 compliant uhci driver.
Don't know if the usbser_edge driver can send a break signal.

  • RS232 usb-serial

    Hi There,
Got a new laptop without a serial port, so I'll need a usb-serial adapter...
But does anyone know a usb-serial adapter that supports sending a break signal across it?
I'm looking for a device that can be used on both Solaris x86 and linux running 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels.
    Cheers
    Chris..

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551dn - Optional USB Device port

Hi, I'm hoping to buy the optional wireless print server (HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server J8026A). There is one problem though, the optional USB device port seems to not exist on my printer. I only notice that the USB logo is present where the port is supposed to be. The plastic in the area is squared off as though it is some sort of break away tab and the port is underneath maybe.
There is no reference to this in the manual anywhere and I am really unsure how to proceed. I don't want to damage anything.
If someone experienced with this model (preferably an HP Employee) can confirm the availability of the port and tell me how to access it (Is it a break away tab?). Part of the reason why I bought this printer is the optional Wireless N print server.
    Thank You in advance.

Thank You for your reply. The port you are talking about is the front panel port for walk-up usb printing and firmware upgrades. This port is indeed available on the higher end LaserJet 500 (NON-MFP, printer only edition) as I just used it to upgrade the firmware. The port I am talking about is the one on the left side in the ports section which you use to plug in the optional print server (not the computer I/O port).
This is shown in the official manual and the spec sheet so I'm 85% sure the port is there, hp can't advertise and mention something that is not available as this would be a big problem and make the 2700w print server incompatible when it clearly states that it is. I just need someone to confirm the availability and clear my confusion (either from HP, or another owner who bought the wireless print server 2700w).

  • I cant figure out why my HTC Droid DNA is no longer recognized by my computer when i hook it up with the USB cable that came with the phone.

I used to be able to just plug in my phone with the USB cable to my Windows 7 computer and browse phone storage with no issues. Now my computer sees it as an android phone but when it tries to automatically install the drivers for my phone on the computer, i get an access denied error message. No option on the phone that i can see that allows me to mount phone as a usb drive. This used to work just fine with nothing more than just hooking up the cable. What gives??

Let's get that access granted again, e_rock_b. The HTC DNA doesn't have a special USB Mass Storage Mode that needs to be turned on. Usually, it's as simple as connecting and browsing http://vz.to/1jktbZD as you mentioned. If your computer is no longer allowing that easy access, try the steps at http://vz.to/1jktvr6.

  • USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no

During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil

  • How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1

How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1 ?
My Superdrive is far from super anymore, So I managed to make an extern drive with both Snow Leopard Partition, Lion Partition (Since I thought Boot Camp 4,1 would bypass my problem), and Time Machine partition, Since I got 1. USB drive that works.
    - My general issue is that Boot camp Refuse to see the USB drive - (Many "how to"´s though show how they install windows perfectly through the USB port, but they use airbooks!, and somehow the Macbook will not ?)
I fix that issue with >> rEFIt <<, that suddenly makes it possible for the Mac to see the USB drive, and partitions.
Which was very strange since I could use an extern HD with the whole installation to start up wipe the whole disk, and then use my extern drive with partitions to install Snow Leopard and get everything as before with timemachine. Very smart with timemachine, but very lucky that I have a extern drive that runs the whole system and that I made the partitionsdrive before. DVD-drives are the past!
Point: So the original system could see the Snow Leopard installation USB disk, but boot camp cannot find the USB drive ?????????
After rEFIt I booted and then I got this error:
    Starting bootmgr.efi
    Error: Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi
I read it could be a problem with the Windows software, so I purchased an extern DVD drive, Used Disk Utility to make an image (.DMG), then used another program to convert the .dmg to .ISO.
Then downloaded a trialversion of vmWare fusion, and installed windows from the iso. Everything worked brilliant, except and that is why I want to use boot camp, Running windows in another program while running the mac system is a little hacky and slow.
Point: Nothing is wrong with the windows software, and windows runs fine.
I then downloaded the Windows DVD / USB Tool, reformatted a USB drive as Master Boot Partition, MS-Dos Fat partition, then after lots of struggling got Vmware, windows to recognise the USB drive. And installed the windows software on the USB drive, as all the walkthroughs recommend.
Then I tried for "fun"! to just install windows form the extern USB drive, and with rEFIt it will see the drive and start to do something, but then when it starts to boot, the screen just turns into black and nothing happens, and you can see the drive does NOTHING. (I think it is because I only have 1 USB drive and the Extern DVD drive does not get enough power, but again the mac refuse to see the USB drive unless it is a Snow Leopard installation USB-drive!
Well trying to install Windows Ultimate 64 Bit, which worked great in vmware, because that program installed from the .ISO file that I had on the desktop, but trying with Boot Camp did not get anywhere, what kind of **** program is this boot camp anyway!?, but then I try the new USB disk with windows made from windows, thorugh rEFIt, it sees the disk and then starts and then I get this ERROR:
    rEFIt - Booting Legacy OS
    Starting legacy loader
    Using load option ´USB´
Error: Not found returned from legacy loader
    Error: Not found from LocateDevicePath
    (x 9 times)
Error: Load Error while (re)opening our installation volume
The firmware refused to boot from the selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple´s firmware for legacy OS booting
(Hey Apple please send out a updated firmware that fix this issue?!)
So how do I do it ? - or is the only option to fix the partition running the system from the extern disk. Format the whole drive in 2 from the "bottom" and install windows and then afterwards install Mac on the other partition ?  Or just run windows on the mac and forget about mac software ? What a stupid solution...

There are strings in the pliist file to add other Macs so that you can use some USB-DVD drives.
This is 5 page thread, so a little more 'meat' to it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3410900?start=60&tstart=0
And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a  mac-model device ID string that specifies yes.  An unnecessary hurdle.

  • USB 6009 lock-ups?

    Hello,
I'm having a strange problem with my newly aquired USB 6009. I've written an app to read the temperature from a temperature controller using the 6009 and that all works fine. However, the problem comes when I port this code into another application. The code is intended to run in a parallel loop to the main execution loop, to continuously read the temperature whilst other data is captured and process (all done in the main loop). Both applications run quite happily when separate. When I bring them together the applications sometimes, but not all the time, refuse to quit and just lock up. I have no idea what is happening as it is not a case of one loop remaining running (I've tried separate stop buttons) and they will run together quite happily. The problem only comes when I hit the button that terminates the main loop (this also triggers the other loop to stop - I'm sure this bit works as I've used the same method in another vi).
The main loop should, in theory, just close. The loop with the USB reads (using DAQmx Base) will stop and then clear the task (DAQmx Base Clear I think). Sometimes the DAQmx Base Clear runs and the program stops fine, other times it runs and the program locks, other times it locks as soon as I hit the quit button.
Any thoughts as I'm completely stumped on this one? Like I say, apart from the one button triggering both loops to terminate there is no link between the two loops.
My only thought is it could be a USB issue as the PC also has a USB keyboard and mouse. I know from my home experience, when for instance plugging in my camera, it can cause the USB to lock if, say, my USB modem is running.

  • USB CAUSING LOCK-UPS

    Hi,
30-40% of the time when I use my front usb it will cause Win XP to lock up and I have to hit the reset button.  Has anyone else experienced this and also any remedies?  It happens with my scanner, gamepad and ipaq.  Setup=Win XP prof w/ service pack 1, KT3ultra2, AMD 1600xp, power supply is 400 watts.
    Thanx

    Hi Maesus,
I have AMI bios version 3.31a.  I can't find the usb version on XP (I only know how to get to it on Win 98SE).  It's the one that came with Win XP.  If it matters, the VIA driver I'm using is v4.42.  Lastly the USB connectors are the ones built into the front panel of my case.  I wired it up according to the manual.
Again, the unusual thing is when it doesn't lock-up everything works fine.
    Thanx again for your help

  • MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool!!!

    Hi guys,
We the forum team have developed  a new way of flashing.
You no longer need a floppy or anything, just an USB-stick.
The tool has been tested together with MSI and as far as we have done our testing, there are no problems at all.
As long as the USB-stick is FAT or FAT32 formatted!
However, flashing is allways risky, so if it goes bad it's your own fault, but that goes for all flashing you do.
This tool is intended to flash MSI retail motherboards and laptops,
but if needs you can use any other machine to prepare the necessary stuffs and the USB stick there,
before move the USB stick to the msi product that you want to flash.
The way it works is simple: Download the package and download the BIOS from the MSI website that you want to flash.
    The rest is straight forward.
Make sure that your board is set to be able to boot from USB.
So turn on USB Legacy Support in the BIOS.
Boot and press F11 to get the boot-popup and select your USB-device to boot.
(some boards have a different key, like K8N Master uses ESC for the boot-menu)
What ever you do, make sure you read all warnings!
The forum nor MSI is responsible if it fails for you.
Nor is this software supported by MSI technical support!
Please report problems/buggs if you find them.
    currently supported OS ( both 32 & 64 bit):
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (also Windows in Virtualbox under Linux!)
    (all kind of versions)
NOTE: If you are having problems getting your USB device to boot correctly, you may need to format it correctly as the geometry data may be incorrect. You can do that by pickup option "Fix My USB key" from the Tool or by using >>> THIS <<< tool here! For future usage you can skip this step, it need to be done only once if your stick need adjustment.
This topic is for discussion of and help with the USB flash tool only. If you have a problem with your PC and need help then do not hijack this topic, please start your own new topic in the correct area of this forum!

This file is a antivirus testing program?
    Hi Max,
"This file is a antivirus testing program? "
yes, the latest version accidentally really become a test for any AV....
in latest 1.13b Avast! no more report false positive,
but all others AV software starting reporting a different false positive results:(all AV listed didn't report false positive problem in a provisional version) Avast! was fixed and no more report the false passivity and passed, but all other AV software started to be a lot confused...
Kaspersky Anti-Virus - Proactive Defense Warning: Riskware detected.
    Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2nd ID - Backdoor.Win32.Iroffer.af
    Dr Solomon's:  probably found Zafi.D.Virus
Symantec: Bloodhound.Overpacked / * Overpacked when a potentially unknown virus is found using Symantec Bloodhound technology */
    Panda: Win32:Trojan-gen.(Mytob.U.Mod)
    Mcafe: Worm.W32/Bakain
    Dr.Web: Trojan.Blakhal
    Bit.Defender: Trojan.JS.Obsq.Gen
Just to clarify one more time, all things listed are false alert coused and exist in latest version only due Avast! fix.(1.13b)
didn't continue to test with rest of AV...
only Avast! and NOD32 report no problem detected.
in 1.13a all false positive listed above doesn't exist, but only Avast! report false positive.
Hoverer, the wave of false positive mess has been resolved along with Avast! false positive as well.
    New version is ready, 1.13c:
    - fixed false positive wave which confusing most of AV software. (all AV do not report any problems anymore)
    - fixed 3 minor bugs:
           * after finished work the tool do not quit normal as expected and hang instead, that happend in x32bit OS only when used has been asked for reboot and answered with "No". e.g. in described specified case.
           * 4th mainboard filter report positive results in some Biostart mainboard and this cause tool to false ID some Biostar board as MSI one.
           * added missing drive letter as USB key choice ("I")

  • AiO Remote Ink Levels etc not accessible with USB connection

My printer prints and scans just fine...except that it ran out of ink after about 15 pages. I'm trying to view the ink levels, but everything in the HP AiO Remote says it's not supported with the USB connection. There's no other way to connect my printer. I need to view the ink levels and be able to put in new ink, but I can't because the software isn't working right. Help?

    Hi @HnnhSmth95,
I see by your post that you are unable to view the ink levels by a USB connection. I can help you with this, but I will need some more information.
What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.
