USB Macbook pro

Does my MBP USB suppoert 2.0/Class 2 audio ?

If the audio device is fully compliant you should not require proprietary drivers. I've used a couple of nice USB audio devices that met that requirement and worked perfectly without any additional drivers. I know this may not be the case for all such products so reading the specifications is important.

  • Boot usb macbook pro early 2011

    Hello guys
i'm trying to install windows (i have a legit license key) on my macbook pro early 2011 (i5 @ 2.3ghz, 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ) through usb because my superdrive is dead and i don't have dvds to burn. i modified the info.plist to make the bootcamp assistant capable to make a bootable usb key of my iso (it's just adding my references to the plist so it recognize it as a macbook without superdrive, no big deal). but when i rebooted my laptop, it says no bootable disk please insert and hit enter. so i did, but it did anything. at the boot menu (cmd or alt button when booting) it shows only the macintosh hd (lion partition) and the recovery hd (lion installer) but the bootcamp partition was made properly in fat32 and so on... i tried to boot on the key but no way it wont.
my question is : is there ANY way to boot from that f*****n usb key? i saw that rEFIt can make it but i don't trust in that software (have no warrenty if a screw something i'm the screwed one loooool)

Can't be done, sorry. You'll need to repair or replace your SuperDrive.

  • USB Macbook Pro unable to wake up from

Hello everyone, I have been trying to figure this one out for a while. I have been using my macbook in a dock, I have one at home and one at work. Under MacOS, I can insert the computer into the dock, hit a key on the keyboard and it will wake up the computer.
When I am booted in to Linux, I have to disable sleep on the computer, close it, and then it will work in the dock. Or I have to reboot the computer quickly and put it in the dock.
Basically from what i have been able to determine when I am booted into macos, the USB ports stil have power applied to them and will accept inputs. Under Linux, the ports are shut completely off.
So what I am trying to figure out, is there a way while still asleep that the computer can recognize when you plug in a usb device and that will wake up the computer? I am fairly confident that there is a way to do it, since the hardware supports it when booted in to MacOS.
Thanks for any suggestions on this.

    Hello syafimo,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communites.
Make sure you have selected the option to allow Bluetooth devices to wake your computer. See #10 in the following article:

  • Logic Pro X and Eleven Rack Sound Card Problem. Intermittent? MacBook Pro Yosemite. Anyone having this issue too?

    Ok,
Avid Eleven Rack Audio Interface with latest firmware into usb MacBook Pro running 10.10.3 (latest Yosemite)
Logic X and the sound card do not see the Eleven Rack all the time. *Intermittently*, but more often than not, I can't select the eleven rack as my interface either in Logic X Preferences>Audio>Devices or System Preferences>sound pref as the eleven rack does not show up in either list to be able to even select it.
Real pain when you are writing and have a flow of ideas and need to get a recording down. Anyone else having this issue? I have tried both usb ports in the macbook pro and the same results.
Of course I unplug and replug the usb cable. Still nothing. I have to quit Logic Pro X and restart to even get a chance for the eleven to even show up in either list.
Once I can select it then I also have a problem with being able to record (it records and gets input not prob) but on playback their is no output (with correct output selected) so I then have to use a Logic X template where the output is set exactly the same as what I am trying currently but for some reason it works with the template on the same exact settings. Mighty pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try my Eleven on another computer to see what happens too but thought I would ask here.
    Thanks
    ejh

First make sure you are using the latest drivers...
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Eleven-Rack-Drivers
However the latest ones are not yet confirmed as working to OS X 10.10.3 so you may need to wait for an update from Avid....
    Test and see....
Note: It's always a good idea not to update OS X or Logic Pro until after you have checked if there are working drivers for your external hardware first.. especially, in my personal opinion... in the case of Avid hardware drivers which are know to lag behind in development..

  • How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1

How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1 ?
My Superdrive is far from super anymore, So I managed to make an extern drive with both Snow Leopard Partition, Lion Partition (Since I thought Boot Camp 4,1 would bypass my problem), and Time Machine partition, Since I got 1. USB drive that works.
    - My general issue is that Boot camp Refuse to see the USB drive - (Many "how to"´s though show how they install windows perfectly through the USB port, but they use airbooks!, and somehow the Macbook will not ?)
I fix that issue with >> rEFIt <<, that suddenly makes it possible for the Mac to see the USB drive, and partitions.
Which was very strange since I could use an extern HD with the whole installation to start up wipe the whole disk, and then use my extern drive with partitions to install Snow Leopard and get everything as before with timemachine. Very smart with timemachine, but very lucky that I have a extern drive that runs the whole system and that I made the partitionsdrive before. DVD-drives are the past!
Point: So the original system could see the Snow Leopard installation USB disk, but boot camp cannot find the USB drive ?????????
After rEFIt I booted and then I got this error:
    Starting bootmgr.efi
    Error: Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi
I read it could be a problem with the Windows software, so I purchased an extern DVD drive, Used Disk Utility to make an image (.DMG), then used another program to convert the .dmg to .ISO.
Then downloaded a trialversion of vmWare fusion, and installed windows from the iso. Everything worked brilliant, except and that is why I want to use boot camp, Running windows in another program while running the mac system is a little hacky and slow.
Point: Nothing is wrong with the windows software, and windows runs fine.
I then downloaded the Windows DVD / USB Tool, reformatted a USB drive as Master Boot Partition, MS-Dos Fat partition, then after lots of struggling got Vmware, windows to recognise the USB drive. And installed the windows software on the USB drive, as all the walkthroughs recommend.
Then I tried for "fun"! to just install windows form the extern USB drive, and with rEFIt it will see the drive and start to do something, but then when it starts to boot, the screen just turns into black and nothing happens, and you can see the drive does NOTHING. (I think it is because I only have 1 USB drive and the Extern DVD drive does not get enough power, but again the mac refuse to see the USB drive unless it is a Snow Leopard installation USB-drive!
Well trying to install Windows Ultimate 64 Bit, which worked great in vmware, because that program installed from the .ISO file that I had on the desktop, but trying with Boot Camp did not get anywhere, what kind of **** program is this boot camp anyway!?, but then I try the new USB disk with windows made from windows, thorugh rEFIt, it sees the disk and then starts and then I get this ERROR:
    rEFIt - Booting Legacy OS
    Starting legacy loader
    Using load option ´USB´
Error: Not found returned from legacy loader
    Error: Not found from LocateDevicePath
    (x 9 times)
Error: Load Error while (re)opening our installation volume
The firmware refused to boot from the selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple´s firmware for legacy OS booting
(Hey Apple please send out a updated firmware that fix this issue?!)
So how do I do it ? - or is the only option to fix the partition running the system from the extern disk. Format the whole drive in 2 from the "bottom" and install windows and then afterwards install Mac on the other partition ?  Or just run windows on the mac and forget about mac software ? What a stupid solution...

There are strings in the pliist file to add other Macs so that you can use some USB-DVD drives.
This is 5 page thread, so a little more 'meat' to it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3410900?start=60&tstart=0
And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a  mac-model device ID string that specifies yes.  An unnecessary hurdle.

  • How can i install windows 7 on macbook pro lion  from usb?

hello am sorry to disturb you
i would like to know the above question since i have looked almost everywhere and i have received no answer
i have a macbook pro i5 with lion
i have been trying for month to install windows 7 as a secondary boot to my mac
but i haven't been able to
    things that i have done
    -i had downloaded win7 iso
    -using another computer i installed win7 on the usb { win to flash }
-i have used bootcamp assistant but apparently i need a dvd of win7 which i currently don't have
-i have installed Reffit but i always get a flashing screen when try to load windows
please i hope you can reply me back if possible
    my thoughts are
is that apple disabled the efi on lion to not be able to boot from usb flash drive
my reasoning to this is that is used to work  on leopard but not lion
again am trying to boot from usb not burn a disc
    please help att alcidio

Rule #1 that TP missed: ISO have to be burned at SLOWEST 2X burn speed to work.
There is/was a long thread but booting Windows from USB-DVD or flash is hit or miss, it may work. USB-DVDs often do not but it is possible to edit the plist to add the Mac ID string to it.
    Boot Camp Assistant -
    create a partition (done)
download Windows Support Software (drivers to install after Windows is running) (done)
Start the install and boot process - not really needed or essential
And you can use Paragon, you can use Windows 7 or later DVD and do entire install (but on a dedicated 100% Windows hard drive).
Flash drive: has to be MBR and FAT or NTFS (I think, sounds right) same for putting Apple drivers on flash card  for which there is an Apple Tech Article.

  • MacBook Pro wakes up when unplugging usb from cinema display

    Hi all,
I have a 30" cinema display at work and a 23" at home which I use with my macbook pro. At work, I use a usb keyboard which stays plugged into the monitor. At home, I have a wireless keyboard and a usb printer plugged into the monitor. Thus in both cases, I plug the usb cable from the display into my laptop. I typically leave the MBP open so as to have the main display and the cinema display at the same time. When I leave home or work, I close to MBP to put it to sleep. However, upon unplugging the display and especially its usb cable, the laptop invariably wakes up, which is annoying.
I tried leaving the MPB closed and putting it to sleep with the display's on/off button. Same behavior.
Is there a setting to prevent usb 'signals' from waking up the computer? Should I proceed differently?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I know this question is answered, but I didn't want to create another thread to discuss the same topic.
I think this issue is rooted in the Cinema Display being attached to port 3 of it's own internal hub. This is to allow the display dimming, the power button that controls the sleep/wake of the laptop, etc. I just got my 30" cinema display a week or two ago, and before that was using an HP IPS LCD panel (24") that also had an integrated USB hub. I have the same devices attached too --USB hard drive for time machine, and keyboard (mighty mouse plugged in to keyboard). When unplugging the cable to the HP monitor's hub, the macbook would not wake up. Just with the Apple display.
The problem with the hack/bandaid/workaround suggested is that to unplug the USB cable before sleeping the laptop, I need to open disk utility and eject the external drive first, else the system will complain. When the laptop goes to sleep, it runs a script (that I wrote) to eject the drive before sleeping, thus no error messages.
Apple really needs to work on making "docking" work right. Until then, I'm using a Belkin USB hub which doesn't wake up the mac when unplugging it.

  • Can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.

  • How can I use a USB keyboard with my Macbook Pro?

My MBP will not recognize my brand new USB keyboard.
I have tried the keyboard on two other Macbook Air's and it works perfectly.
    My MBP:
    OS X Yosemite
    10.10.1
Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
    2.4 GHz Core i5
    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Mac HD
    Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB
Thoughts on how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Brenden,
    Thanks for the reply.
I've gone your suggestions in detail and the keyboard is still not working.
From what I can tell this is a known issue with Yosemite.

Someone at Apple must be able to figure this one out.

  • How do I use a usb web cam with MacBook Pro

How do I use a web camera with a MacBook Pro?  I want to run it through my laptop so I can project it on a screen for teaching a class.

You can try it, but probably not.
This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion).  You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

    Hi Auracles1,
Here's a pretty discussion regarding wireless printing with this device and a Mac.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-networking-and-wireless/HP-Officejet-6500-E 709n-wireless-issue/m-p/258853
I have a similar OfficeJet and it was a multi-step process. (1) Install printer drivers on the machine, (2) Add the printer queue in print & fax, (3) Run the "setup wizard" from the disc for wireless printing.

  • I have an iPod G2 with a firewire 400 lead. how can I attach it to my new 13 inch Mac book Pro, is there a 400 to 800 firewire converter. USB lead wont work with the Macbook Pro. iPod used as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go.

My G2 iPod that I use as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go cannot link with my new 13" Macbook Pro cause it uses a firewire 400 lead. It will not work with a USB lead. Is there a firewire 800 ipod lead or converter available? Can any one shed some light on this please?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

  • Is there a driver to let a ps2 keyboard plugged in with a usb connector work on my macbook pro 13inch

is there a driver to let a ps2 keyboard plugged in with a usb connector work on my macbook pro 13inch?
I know there are more threads about this subject but none was really an answer.
I got a keyboard (brand medion) with a ps2 connector. i wanted it to connect to my macbook so i bought an ps2 to usb connecter.
wile connected with my macbook the keyboard leds flash one time like they do when you put it in a ps2. but after this just doesn' t work
I think i might miss a driver or its just turned of somwhere in the system. an previous answer was said something about a safe reboot and a lot of codes but thats to hard for me.
    so any good solutions????

I've never found a PS2 to USB adapter that worked, or IIRC I've never found one at all. I have USB TO PS2 but not the other way. Just go out and buy a new keyboard. PS2 is so late 90s/early 2000s

I have a the new Macbook pro, when I connect my Liteon USB DVD drive it does not show up my Macbook pro. The only DVD drive showing up is the one on my Macbook pro. How do I make the 2nd DVD drive show up. I just need to 2nd drive to tranfers data from dvd to the external drive.

Hi, ipodtrip1. Nothing will appear on your MBP's desktop unless there is a disc in the drive. Does a disc in the drive not appear either?
If not, does System Profiler detect the drive as a connected device?
If you have another USB device you can connect to your computer, disconnect the optical drive and connect the other device. Does System Profiler detect that device?
If not, reset the System Management Controller, and see whether doing so reactivates your USB port.
