Office 2013 slow calculation when it contains hidden rows

Hi,
a colleague of mine has a very big excel sheet filled with product information.She recieves this from hq in japan.
When we want to filter on product, it takes excel 1 minute to recalculate each time we select a different product.
After a bit of experimenting , I've noticed that this is cause due to hidden rows/columns in the excel sheet.
when i make it visible then it works like a charm.
Is there a solution to this matter so that we can keep our rows and columns hidden because now we get to see too much data so it isn't easy to comprehend the file anymore.

Hi,
As far as I know, the "Filtering & hidden rows" are volatile actions that trigger a recalculation. It'll consume a lot of resource. We may try the following steps to improve Excel calculation performance.
Use 64-bit Excel instead of 32-bit version.
Processor Speed and Multiple Cores
Add PC's RAM

======
On the other hand, I recommend you use the big Excel file as database and re-create an Excel to read/report the data which you want. We can use
PivotTable, PowerPivot and other Power BI add-ins to help us get/analyze the data. They are displayed the data which you want and hidden the data that you do not need.

  • Satellite Pro C50-A - Microsoft Office 2013 apps crash when opened

    I recently purchased a Satellite Pro C50-A PSCG7A-01X01V. I installed Windows 8.1 and then installed Office 2013. Unfortunately when I start one of the Office 2013 apps it immediately crashes with an error message eg: "Microsoft Word has stopped working". I have tried starting the applications in safe mode (eg excel /safe) however the same error occurs. Is anyone able to assist with this problem?

    I have managed to resolve the issue by using Microsoft's facility to 'Repair Office Programs'. Refer to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

  • Office 2013 applications crash when opening/saving files in OneDrive for Business folder

    My setup:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Office 2013 Professional
    OneDrive for Business (connected to Office 365)
    Issue Description:
    Example 1:
    1.  I create a file in OneDrive for Business using the appropriate web app (Excel web app, for example).
    2.  I edit the file in the web app, I save the file in my OneDrive for Business
    3.  I sync OneDrive for Business with it's local folder
    4.  Now I open the folder in Windows Explorer and double-click the Excel file
    5.  Excel splash screen shows up for a bit, and then Excel crashes
    Example 2:
    1.  I open Word on my Windows 7 laptop
    2.  I start from a blank document and create some content in the document
    3.  I use the Save As option under the File menu to save the file to my local OneDrive for Business folder
    4.  As soon as I click the Save button on the dialog, Word crashes
    The same happens with all the Office applications.
    Important Note:
    If I run the above examples with Excel/Word in SAFE mode, there is absolutely no issue.
    What have I done so far?
    1.  I have made sure that the DisplayLink driver is the latest version from the manufacturer
    2.  There is no bluetooth send-to add-in in any of the Office applications
    3.  No add-ins are enabled in any of the Office applications (not sure if there are "stealth" ones that are not visible in the Options/Add-Ins dialog?)
    Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.

    Hi JeHarry,
    Because I didn't have Windows 7, I did a test with Windows 8.1 based on your description. However, in my testing, everything worked well.
    Please repair your Office under Control Panel, compare the result.

  • When opening a new tab, bottom row becomes "hidden" behind main window and only becomes revisible when tab on hidden row is closed.

    I have the browser set to show five rows of tabs, however, even on the third row (I have not closed enough tabs to test if this happens on the second row), when opening a new tab, the top of the webpage gets moved up to cover the bottom row of tabs, save for a sliver at the top. The only way to re-expose the tabs seems to be to close any tab in the bottom row -- closing tabs in other rows does nothing with the problem.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • App-V Office 2013 MLCFG32.cpl and Search indexing

    Hi there,
    I used the ODT to make an app-v package of office 2013. However when I try to load the mlcfg32.cpl it displays the following error:
    The operating system is not presently configured to run this application.
    I start the cpl from the following location:
    C:\ProgramData\App-V\D24C3BDD-8FAD-44D3-998C-933F8F053682\764C2E31-0B14-4E44-818A-2836992E7EA6\Root\Office15
    Also the search indexing isn't working in Outlook 2013, whenever I try to load the indexing status it keeps on loading with no result. I wanted to remove the profile from Outlook 2013, but with no mlcfg32.cpl it's very hard.
    I also tried a repair of the application with no result.
    Why is there so little information on packaging office 2013 in combination with App-v from Microsoft?

    Well the package should be published globally, in the policy the global refresh is enabled. However when I look at the settings of the application I see the following:

  • Office 2013 on RDS, icon appears and dissapears

    Hello.
    We have multiforest enviroment. Forest A ( there are accounts ) and forest B where are APPV mgmt and RDS servers. Users from Forest A login to RDS servers in forest B with no problem. We have domain group (say FS USERS) in forest B that includes users account
    from forest  A and we publish MS Office for this group.
    Every other application published for domain group "FS USERS" work, but MS Office 2013 not. When logging, Office icons for 8seconds appears and after that disappears ( i think when office intergration task run ).
    When i publish office for group in domain B and
    accounts that comes from domain B, office works.
    Can anyone recommend
    what to do, what check?
    I enable debug logging but nothing special found.
    Thanks, Jan

    Hello.Yes, jump to fully supported model.
    I write before, we try it, 1 ODT per machine like we are using for any other packages.
    We end with error :
    The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Virtual Shell' could not be initialized. {error: 0xC701525-0x54F}
    The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Registry Staging' could not be initialized. {error: 0x78A00A0A-0xA0005}
    The main and annoying  effect is when user logon, there popup dialog:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: c:\windows\explorer.exe
    R6030
    - CRT not initialized
    I must run explorer.exe from task manager manualy ( CTRL+ALT+END) and after that office appears
    There is empty RUNVIRTUAL entry in registry.
    We have latest APPv subsystem. Appv-SP3, resp. 5.0.10107.0
    Server is on clean install, W2008R2Ent
    It doesn't matter if user is form forest or local domain, have redirected %APPDATA% or not.

  • Windows 8.1 Hangs, Crashes, Office 2013 Excel Crash

    I'm an IT professional (over 20 years). I feel qualified to make these statements in this post.  I also know that the download sites for Windows 8.1 never give any warning as to what works, what doesn't, driver updates needed etc.  In fact it's
    being sold as the next best thing! Just download and upgrade.  There's even a tool I ran that told me my laptop was ready to go!
    My environment is an HP 6530B laptop that worked flawlessly on Windows 7 professional with IE10.  I upgraded to Windows 8.1 about 6 weeks ago (upgrade went flawlessly) and have had nothing but nightmares.  Here's the list, so beware.
    Blue Screens are frequently seen.  I was able to reduce them by clearing out all the UPDATEs and applying a select few of them.  How can updates make things worse?
    System Hangs, forcing a power down 3 to 4 times a day.
    IE11 crashes, sends a dump to MSFT and reboots itself at will about 5 to 7 times a day.
    Certain Monitors used as a second monitor that worked in Windows 7, cause the system to go haywire and become unusable no matter how many times you reboot.
    Automatic updates and manual update checks frequently don't work well.  If you press the Check Upates button multiple times, you will get different results.
    Some updates make matters worse
    There appears to be random memory leaks in the Service Host process
    Service Host process group frequently hogs memory 1.5 GIG or more. (These are all MSFT services)  It is believed that some of these processes have a memory leak.
    Office 2013 is unstable when using either Word or Outlook (will hang system)
    Excel 2013 throws errors when connecting to the TFS Team client to download Workitems, it can seem to interpret the data.
    Excel 2013 (issues, problems, crash) will crash on simple moves of area data from one group of cells to another.
    VS2012 will hang and WINDBG cannot be attached to debug the process
    VS2013 works much better!
    Starting up Cisco's VPN client 5.0.07.0290 will hang the system 1/2 the time.
    Some installed products such as Infor's EPAK crash and burn when used.
    The only good thing about Windows 8.1 is Google Chrome because it ran fine!
    To me this is the worst production roll out I've ever seen from the team that produced the platform we've adopted.  I can't flog anyone, but I can post an honest assessment of my experience.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 (Word,excel) Still appear as "Standard" after migrate in ProPlus 365

    Hi,
    I'm planning a mass deployment of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus with SCCM 2012.
    I made my application, and added a supersedence of Microsoft Office 2013.
    So when I deploy ProPlus, It first uninstall Office 2013, then reboot, then install Office ProPlus 365
    My problem is that when it install Office ProPlus product that I had on Office 2013 and I go in Account tab, I still see "Microsoft Office Standard 2013"
    When I see the others product, I see Microsoft Office ProPlus.
    I'm sure that Standard is uninstalled first, I can also see in Add/Remove programs that there is no Standard version.
    Is that just a bug, or some of my product hasn't migrate on Office 365 Proplus ?
    Thanks ! :)

    @Don, I reboot the client computer after uninstalling Office 2013. Nothing have changed.
    @Aravindhan, I'm lauching Office from the start menu. I already tried to just uninstall Office and see what's happen. Office uninstalling correctly. But When I install ProPlus, I can see "Office Standard" in account tab.. (and Standard doesn't
    appear in Add/remove programs)
    Maybe check c:\windows\temp\SetupExe(YYYYMMDDHHMMxxxxx).log
    This is the Office (MSI) setup logfile, to see if there were any uninstallation errors?
    Are there any standalone Office products installed previously, e.g. SharePointDesigner or similar ?
    It might be necessary to use OFFSCRUB.VBS (from the Office removal Fixit) to clean that up?

    configuration file did not contain well formed AppV configuration XML. Please check the management server event log for more information". If I check Applications and Services\Microsoft\AppV\Server-Management\Admin the error displayed there is "An
    error was encountered parsing dynamic configuration file '0'. However I am able to change the shortcut location for all other applications except the above 2. I've tried redownloading the files using the ODT and also changing the version number (so far I've
    tried both the 15.0.4631.1002 and 15.0.4659.1001 with the same result).
    As all I'm interested in so far is having a package which contains Visio and Project I've tried following the article to exclude all the other Office elements:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj219426(v=office.15).aspx#BKMK_ExcludeAppElement. However the package looks to be the same and when I load it into the management console all the options and elements to Office 2013 are available like they were before
    when I hadn't set the exclude tags so I'm not sure whether the ExcludeApp parameters actually work correctly.
    This then brings me onto the 3rd issue I've experienced. I have a group for the Visio users and I've set custom security for them to have Visio delivered to them but not Project and then a seperate group for just Project users who will have Project delivered
    to them but not have Visio. When testing this sometimes seems to work but other times it seems to trip out and a user just in the Project or Visio group will get all of the Office 2013 applications and under the default location of Microsoft Office 2013. When
    trying to spot correlation with this it appears random and can happen to any user on any device. We have sequenced a few applications ourselves where different parts are needed for different users and we have successfully managed this using different security
    groups for different applications, just as I'm trying here with Office 2013.
    Has anyone else experienced the issue with the "did not contain well formed XML" as at the start of the post and how were you able to resolve this? Also has anyone any advice on how to troubleshoot the issue with the security seeming to trip out
    and publish all applications within a package to a user regardless of whether they are in the correct group or not?
    The management / publishing servers are 5.0.1224.0 which is SP1 HF4 and the clients are on SP2 HF5.
    Thanks

    Nicke,
    The config files are UTF-8. I did find the same article as yourself, however when searching for the value ‘TakeoverExtensionPointsFrom46=’ within either of the configuration.xml files that text isn’t found.
    No sinister reason not to share the file used, just it’s the same structure as referenced in the article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn745895(v=office.15).aspx. The only difference being that I’m using ProPlusVolume and I’ve set a version number (which is the October
    2014 update). I’ve even looked to follow the above example as closely as possible in just using the ExcludeApp ID of Access and InfoPath, just to try and prove the process. However I still get the usual full package. The version of the Click-to-Run setup.exe
    I’m using is 15.0.4623.1001, so later than the version specified at the end of that article which is 15.0.4619.1000. Where can I expect to see the elements excluded? Will it be when loading the package into the management console or would it just not appear
    on the machine when delivered?
    <Configuration>
      <Add SourcePath="C:\OfficeDeploymentToolV2" Version="15.0.4659.1001" OfficeClientEdition="32">
        <Product ID="ProPlusVolume">
          <Language ID="en-us" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Access" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="InfoPath" />
        </Product>
      </Add>
    </Configuration>
    3). We’ve not used global publishing in our environment yet so I will try that. I’ve set both GlobalRefreshEnabled and GlobalRefreshOnLogon to True and when using the command Get-AppvPublishingServer on the client I’m testing with I can see this is pulled
    through correctly. I’ve also added the client name to the AD group used to grant access to the package and it is published. However nothing is pulling through onto the Client, so are there any steps I’ve missed or misinterpreted when looking to set this up?
    I guess the global publishing is there to keep in with licensing for Office being per device? On a slight aside, as Windows licensing is being changed to allow per user licensing
    http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-to-make-per-user-windows-licensing-available-to-enterprise-customers-7000035401/ does anyone know if there are any plans to allow for Office / Project / Visio licenses to go per user as well? We’re a volume license customer
    rather than subscription based so I think a lot of the options to selectively deploy Visio and Project are excluded for us.
    Dan,
    Ok that explains why the security could be tripping out then and leading to this result. As above I’ll try with global publishing and see how I get on.
     From what I’ve read / watched  I think only one Office 2013 package can be published to a machine, so we would be unable to have a separate package for Visio and a separate package for Project and then attempt to deliver
    them both together. If a user wanted both Project and Visio then I guess we’d need to have a combined Project and Visio package to cover than scenario, but then 2 more separate Project and Visio packages for those who would only want either Project and Visio
    (I think).
    The scenario we’re looking at is to see whether we are able to deliver Project and / or Visio to different users through an AppV package and this will then cover users on XenApp or on fat clients. Only a small proportion of our
    users will need access to Project and / or Visio so therefore we’d only have a small amount of Project and Visio licenses.
    However from what I’ve tested up to this point and from what I’ve picked up from Forum posts / watched on TechEd sessions is that as publishing is Global and is unable to use different security groups for different elements of the
    suite, then using Office through AppV is only suitable if you will be delivering the whole suite (including Project and Visio) to all of your users. So in a scenario where you’d only want certain elements to be delivered to a handful of users then you’d need
    to keep with traditional ESD methods to have this installed onto fat clients and steer clear of XenApp. If wanting to install to XenApp then a lockdown tool like AppSense or AppLocker would also need to be brought into the equation.
    Is my understanding above correct or have I missed some options / methods?
    If the full Office package is always delivered but a company only has Office licenses and no Project and Visio licenses for all its users, how do they stop Project and Visio being delivered and being available? Or again if you have
    this use case is the AppV method one which will be unsuitable?
    Thanks

  • Excel Calulates twice when set to Automatic in Office 2013

    I have had a group of users who have raised an issue with Office 2013 running far slower for a number of spreadsheets. After investigating the fault, I have identified the issue as being due to the way in which Excel appears to be handling the calculations.
    When I open the spreadsheet myself, on Office 2013 32 or 64 bit, I am asked to update the data, at which point the spreadsheet runs the calculations if I accept, and then runs them again. If I set this behaviour to manual, I can open the spreadsheet, request
    an update, and then manually calculate, which only takes one pass at the data but provides the same results. The behaviour does not persist on an Excel 2010 machine, which does only a single pass on both manual and automatic. The spreadsheet does pull data
    from an external sheet, but as this only occurs in Office 2013, I don't believe this to be intended behaviour.
    Is there anyone who can shed some insight into why this acts this way, and how to prevent this. We are trying to upgrade our business to 2013, and are getting a huge amount of push back from this particular set of users over this issue

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to calculate once time when the file opening or update data.
    I suggest you can make the file always calculate manual.
    You may try to do following steps:
    Click File>Options>Formulas> Calculate Options> Manual
    Then you can save it .
    For more detail information, please refer to the following link:

  • ? Office 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA CommandBars references

    Thanks in advance for reading this and offering any wisdom you have! I am not an expert in any of the following, so apologies if off base.
    The basic problem is: I need to use Excel 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA 'CommandBars' references which don't seem to work in Excel 2013. Details below.
    Most of our users are still using older desktop windows PCs and Office 2003!  We are beginning to upgrade to laptops running Windows 8.1 with Office 2013.  Of course, we IT technical people are using the new laptops first. These new laptops are
    64 bit.
    Years ago, someone did a lot of development with spreadsheets here in Excel 2003 file formats that automates many activities and routines. Now we with the new laptops are having to support this development using new machines.
    There is a basic compatibility issue that appears when first opening these Excel 2003 files that have VBA code that I'll detail below; I seem able to get by that problem.
    The current problem appears to be that the existing Excel 2003 VBA code has many references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars". As I've learned, the Application.CommandBars VBA functionality is focused on older MS Office versions' menu
    commands, but "...Starting from Office 2007 the Fluent UI is used instead."  In other words, because MS Office isn't menu-driven beginning with version 2007 (uses 'the ribbon'), it appears that these references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars"
    create a basic incompatibility to opening these spreadsheets in Office 2013.
    For a spreadsheet, after I resolve the issue detailed below and save it, when I reopen it I encounter error "Compile error: can't find project or library."
    For example, the following code snippet:
    Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    For Each bar In Application.CommandBars
            bar.Enabled = False
        Next
    results in: "Compile error: can't find project or library."
    (Sorry, can't include images yet, I am not a VERIFIED USER of this forum yet.)
    I went into VBE's menu: Tools>References and check for anything marked MISSING, which I deselected. But I am still receiving this error.
    I don't want to get into changing the code a lot to support both Excel 2003 and 2013 (I am no VBA expert, just a dabbler).
    And Microsoft officially says that Office 2003 is incompatible with Windows 8 although Application.CommandBars seem to be somewhat supported in Office 2013 .
    Are you aware of a quick VBA workaround to get by this?
    •I could comment out the validations, commands for: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars" but then the spreadsheet code probably won't work for users using Office 2003.
    Alternatives would be:
    •Installing Office 2003 on my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop anyway, in spite of MS's saying incompatible, since this thread discusses at least one person has been able to use Office 2003
    •Keeping one older PC with Office 2003 on it for us to support the old Office 2003 code until everyone upgrades their systems
    Thanks
    Basic compatibility issue that seems solvable:
    Opening these spreadsheets displays this error:
    Compile error:
    The code in this project must be updated for use on 64-bit systems.
    Please review and update Declare statements and then mark them with the PtrSafe attribute.
    This seems resolvable by going into the VBA code and just adding element 'PtrSafe' where functions are declared; in other words, replacing VBA code "Declare Function" with "Declare PtrSafe Function" seems to get by this.

    Hi Allan_L,
    Please try the methods that provided above. And this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Excel, your issue is related to Excel DEV, if you have further question, I recommend you post the question to the MSDN forum for Excel

  • Problem with URL:s containing scandinavian characters (Office 2013 / Firefox / SP 2010)

    We are encountering problems with document opening when URL contains scandinavian characters (ä,ö). This issue occurs only with Office 2013 when using Firefox. With IE it works just fine. And Office 2010 works nicely as well.
    Error message: "We can't connect to 'https://intra.../Test powerpoint.pptx' Please make sure you're using the correct web address".
    This issue only occurs when document or document set name contains scandinavian characters. If I rename it, document opens without any problems.
    Any idea how I could fix this?

    Hi Law, try changing the settings in the library to "open in client application." You should also read the following links for solutions:

  • Very Slow to save Office 2013 files (Excel/Word) to a network share

    I have an issue with a customer's system whereby they experience problems with saving either a Word or Excel file to another workstation on the network.
    The network share is located on a Windows7 Pro x64 machine. The problem can be seen on a machine that's running Windows 8.1 Pro X64 along with Office 2013. When the user attempts to save the document back to the network share, there's
    a very long delay (sometime around a minute) before the save completes.
    I've tried turning off indexing of off-line files (via indexing options) and also declaring the network location as a trusted location (via the Trust Centre settings from within Excel & Word).
    If I simulate the same, but with a local file (eg loaded/saved to the Desktop) then there's no delay, so I conclude that it's something related to the process of saving data to the network share.
    The normal copy speed across the network, and between these 2 machines, is very fast. It's only when running Word/Excel that  the problem manifests itself.
    Any pointers would be gratefully received!
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
    Please first try to disable your antivirus software and check the issue again.
    This issue may also occur if you use the Encrypting File System (EFS) to secure the Temporary Internet Files folder. If this is the situation, please refer to the following article and try to fix the issue:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/05/05/slow-saving-of-office-files-to-a-network-server-using-efs.aspx
    In addition, please check if the information in the following link applies:

  • Extremely Slow File Menu Office 2013 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), but everything else is perfect

    I have Office 2013 installed on my Windows 8 (now 8.1) computer. For about three weeks, all programs in the office suite ran perfectly. However, an extremely annoying problem suddenly appeared, which has been plaguing me for the past two weeks: The file
    menu is EXTREMELY slow consistently across all programs in the Office 2013 suite. There's a very noticeable delay, about 2 or 3 seconds, between when I click the FILE button, and when the file menu actually appears. Similarly, all options within this menu
    are laggy. Typically, the program will enter an unresponsive state for those few seconds and then promptly recover. I haven't lost any data to this issue yet, but it wastes my time.
    I don't have much more than the essentials installed on my computer. Drivers for my motherboard, NVidia graphics card, Office, web browser and about 6 other trusted programs.
    Any and all help appreciated. Thanks.
