USB Mic cutting out

Well, here's my problem. I play WoW (World of Warcraft) and my guild uses ventrilo (speex codec and it works fine). I use a plantronics usb headset which is great, but every once in a while my computer will lock up (sometimes just for 5 seconds, sometimes I'm forced to hold down the power button and restart). The problem, aside from the lockup, is that if it is just a temporary stall, all sound stops and my guildmates cannot hear me speak, but I can hear them. I've made sure the mic isn't muted, I've restarted ventrilo and nothing seems to work. The only thing that solves the issue is restarting my computer (I don't think I need to mention how inconvenient that is).
If anyone knows a way to fix this problem please let me know. I'm not sure what causes the freeze, but when it happens I stop all actions and restart. A faster solution would be so nice.
cheers

  • Mic cutting out in SKYPE.

This is frustrating me to the point where I am making a forum post. I have had several mics in the past, all with the same problem. Currently using the logitech G930. When I talk in skype, my mic cuts out mid sentence, sometimes to the point where people can't understand me at all.
I know it is skype, because if i fraps a skype call and play it back (being windows sound is recorded, not skype), there is no cutting out; even though you can hear my friends clearly saying "You're cutting out, I can't hear you"
    Please help me

  • Blue Snowball Mic cuts out/too quiet

I bought an excellent and professional microphone made by the company of BlueMics. The model I have is the "Snowball Aluminum". Apparently when I talk with a couple of friends my mic either cuts out, or is too quite. I boosted the mic fully on my Windows and Skype settings to the highest but all it doesn't really do anything. I can't tell if my friends are just f***ing with me that my mic is "cutting out" and "too quite". I'm not sure if it is my friends screwing with me because my mic seems to be quite good for other friends, or very clear when I am using Sony Vegas Pro for videos. Would I probably need one of those muffles over the mic or whatever they are called to center the sound waves from my voice to the mic, or a program that can  boost the mic sensitivaty more. I tried moving the mic closer, it made it more clearer than where I had it before, but apprently it is "still to quite or cuts out". Help would be greatly appreciated.

You are very limited what you can do with USB audio/recording devices.  You can try the device in another USB port.  One that is directly on the computer vs. a hub as that can make a difference.  If you have access to another PC run the tests yourself to another Skype account.  That way you can rely on your own judgement and not your friend's.  Other times audio issues can be due to the Internet connection/routers between the two of you.  I had one of my contact's claiming I kept cutting out.  Skype technical details stated my audio was being relayed.  With my contact's permission I remoted into his computer and router and updated it to the latest firmware.  After that I had a direct connection (not relayed) and the audio no longer cut out on my end for that contact.  In some cases, ff your Mic volume is set too high/sensitive that may cause issues as well, so you might actually try lowering it to see if that make a difference.

  • USB Microphone cuts out all sound

I'm using Logic Express 8, with an MXL condenser microphone.  At first everything worked fine.  I could hear all the audio.
But now, when I plug in the microphone, it cuts off all sound.  The computer is receiving an audio signal.  Under preferences, USB Audio Codec is chosen.
I created an aggregate devise, but that didn't work.  I chose the new aggregate devise in audio preferences.  No luck.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Michael

I do not have your exact computer model or sound driver, but I can tell you what I did that fixed my microphone issues almost instantly for my G780!
My microphone also cut out during voip calls (such as Skype, G+ hangouts, etc) but my audio when using any type of recording software was fine!
So apparently for my laptop, there was a bit of additional software that was installed called Smart Audio which is also by Coaxant.
If you have this program, this is probably what is causing all the sporadic quality changes.
    What I did:
-Open Smart Audio (it's not actually an installed program, it is a setting so I just searched for it in the start menu)
-Go over to the VOIP tab on the bottom, and click on Voice Over IP to DISABLE the features.
-The icon for the setting should now be disabled, along with microphone noise reduction and acoustic echo cancellation.
These settings in smart audio were the ones making my microphone sound so horrible. As soon as I disabled it, people on the other side of the chat immediately noticed a dramatic increase in overall quality!
    Hope this helps!

I have updated bios to latest, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. And it still seems to happen, randomly at that.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Yea, it sounds "severe" as I have no such device listed at all (EHCI host controller) in my G46-970a system...  I think you might have the syntax wrong. or quite possibly your OS is looking for a network device no longer in your network.  Do you by any chance have a 3rd-party USB card installed?  Doesn't sound like it, but then, there's no EHCI controller, either.  "Timeouts" generally occur across a network or the Internet--so it would appear your OS is attempting to query an "EHCI controller" and getting no response, and simply letting you know about it. "async Advance Doorbell response" sounds kind of kinky--like maybe your installation is looking for some kind of network burglar alarm system, or something...!   You said you reinstalled Windows, and if so, then you are running some sort of strange network software that is looking for a device it cannot find--or, heck, maybe you've simply picked up a virus--some of those virus guys have a sense of humor every now and then--like "Doorbell response," that may be an example.  Install MSE AV/malware software and scan all your drives just to eliminate that.
Also, your post lacks much in the way of critical information that would assist people in helping you--list of components, OS version, clocks, networks, etc. I'm just taking potshots here.  I can say with authority, though, that the message you're getting has nothing to do with your G46-970a.  After you scan for viruses and malware, I'd advise you to format c:\ and then reinstall Windows from scratch. (You should do this with any motherboard changeout as a matter of course.)  Good luck!

  • Mic randomly cuts out after internet upgrade?

Hello, i recently upgraded my net from adsl 2+ which was about 700 kilobits/second to cable which is 36 megabit/second. Before the upgrade my skype worked fine. After it got upgraded my mic cuts out randomly during 2 person calls and small group calls. It works in larger group calls fine but a few select people (about 3 i know of) cant host due this issue. Ive searched for about a month now for an answer.

I should also point out that the issue is specific to Mac OSX. This computer has a Windows XP partition. I just tested the issue on the Windows partition, both with screen saver and standby, and it was able to sustain its internet connection with no issues whatsoever. To clarify, multiple computers with Mac OSX have not had this problem, and this computer, using a different operating system, has not had this problem. The issue is totally isolated to this one specific machine, using one specific operating system.

  • How do I get sound out when I plug in a USB mic?

How do I get sound out when I plug in a USB mic?  I cannot hear my instrument tracks either.  It will record my vocals, but I can't hear them.  If I unplug the mic and restore the internal devices, then I can hear all tracks, including the vocals.  I'm sure there's a simple solution.

    Hi
Prior to Logic 9, you cannot separately choose Input/Output audio devices, so you either have the USB Mic, or the Built-in audio (or an external audio interface).
To set up for 'mixed' devices, you need to use AudiMIDI Setup (Utilities folder) to create an Aggregate Device.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3956
Note that I recall that it was 'sensitive' to which order you create the devices with some USB Mics.

  • USB power periodically cutting out

Recently I've been lossing power to usb for a second or two. iTunes will cut out via Soundsticks and mouse will freeze. There's no rhymn or reason to it yet, just randomly, except that when opening an application it inevitably happens.
I've read the discussions about people lossing usb power speratically, but I haven't seen any solutions. I've reset the PRAM and the problem still persists.
    any ideas?

Hello! Normally a power interruption on a usb port will display a message that it has been disconnected from the system because of an overload condition such as a printer drawing too much power or too many non-powered devices attached such as a usb powered hard drive or a hub that's become faulty or a powered hub that has had it's power supply accidently disconnected or a hub that has failed. • USB mouse skips and "cuts out"

    Hi,
I'm having a very strange problem. I'm using an USB mouse from Microsoft (IntelliMouse Explorer).
Its an optical mouse with a wire connecting to the usb port of the macbook pro 17".
My MacBook Pro is the top of the line one.
The problem i'm experiencing is that quite often, the mouse "cuts out" and i'm moving it about but the arrow is "stuck". I then try to move the arrow with my finger on the trackpad and there is no problem. A few second later the mouse works again. This happens about avery thirty seconds and is very annoying.
I tried to buy another mouse from Logitech - a very expensive one. But...it also happens with this mouse.
So, it must be the mac.
It hasnt been happening all the time, but since i dont have the time to do a all new install of the operating system (i'm using the all new version), I am really not sure what to do about it at the moment, so i'm living with it...
Am i the only one who has experienced this?
    Kind regards

You are not the only one on this issue, either I am also experiencing this same issue. With every USB mouse I use. I have a wired logitech g5 mouse and the razr mamba. They both experience this "cut off" and "sticking" issue, that you explained. Its especially noticeable in games. I use OSX 10.6.1 and Windows 7 via bootcamp 3. I am running the latest MBP model 15 inch.

  • Using the firebox/ to record an external synth via audio outs and a USB Mic

I have the following set up:
    firebox Firewired to the QuaD.
ALL audio in and out is PRESONUS FIREBOX
    in GB prefs/sound/audio midi utility
will i be able to record vocals with the USB samson
    and add
an external synth coming in to channels 1/2 in the front of the Firebox 1/2 channels
and ofcourse use GB as the recording studio and use this all together.
the outs in the back of the Firebox go to a minidisc whose audio outs go to monitors so that i can record what i do in case genius strikes me fiddling around
    as we all do.
so 1 Firebox, Firewire, Samson Mic ( USB ) GB 08 , minidisc, monitors
with all drivers to PResonus together.
i notice in audio midi i needed to change to device not mac to rid static
Is this a plausible set up?
    can this work:
The synth is taking up 1 real track ( i set monitor on and mono presonus track )
the samson mic is taking up another real track
can i hear record the synth and sing at the same time with them on both tracks
Chris said use aggregate in the midi audio
i do not understand how to do that and what that means?
would someone be kind enough to explain this?
please take it a step at a time.
i essentially want everything working at the same time
    external synths/usb mics/Gband/external recording/monitors
    using the presonus firebox
    thanks for your time
    bless u all
someone mentioned using aggregate in the audio midi utility.

Funny you should say that. It used to work fine, then suddenly last night it stopped working in the line-in jack. It's crazy, I'm not sure what the deal is, still trying to figure out what happened.

  • Internet stopped working, music cuts out through USB

Okay, I searched the forum and didnt find an answer so here's my problem:
first of all this iPod touch is only a couple months old, and ive only really used it in my car, and the internet at home when the computer is being used. The internet worked fine for a while, but a few days ago it showed full connection, but instead of connecting the internet page just stays blank and I cannot do anything until the ipod goes to sleep. I restarted it, and now I get an Error message: "Operation could not be completed (POSIX error 12- cannot allocate memory)"
What do I do to fix this? should I reset settings or restore?
Also, in my car i have to make the ipod play before i connect it or it can take any number of minutes before it plays a song or half then cuts out. It never used to do that and my old ipod works fine. same thing happens when i put it on my dock, I have to make it play first so it doesnt cut out though.
I hope this can be fixed, any help?

  • USB mic recommendation?

I am simplifing my workstation and moving to a USB mic. What would you recommend?
    Best.
    Tom

I'd recommend foregoing the USB mic and get a USB audio interface... then you can use whatever mic you like. Really high quality mics? ...  ain't gonna be USB. You really can't beat a Shure SM58 (you can... but it would be a matter of opinion.)
If you need to take your show "on the road", I would recommend one of the Zoom mics. I have the H1 and H2 (got the h2 first.) It can be configured as a USB audio interface/mic for your computer. It can be taken on location (without a computer) and used as a recorder. It can use other kinds of mics as the audio input... on location... which means if you have a fancy mic like the Shure, you can take it with you and use it on location just with the H1... awesome (you will need an XLR to 1/8in stereo adapter though.) It's great with lavalier mics. Zoom mics have an outstanding dynamic range (some might say it's too good — they can pick up *everything* – if you're not careful.)
Here are some examples [absolutely NO noise reduction used in any of them]:
This first clip is a recording of a folk guitar, outside, on a breezy day. I used a lavalier mic (with windscreen) clipped to the soundhole connected to the Zoom H1 and set the levels down low enough to cut the ambient noise.
    http://sight-creations.com/audio/small_clip3.mov.mp3
... not very impressive by itself (compared to a Tascam PortaStudio 4-track cassette recorder I had in the early nineties... it's bloody amazing!)
and this is what it sounds like after post in Logic:
    http://sight-creations.com/audio/small_clip4.mp3
You can really pull a lot of audio out of those lower levels because the recorder is exceptionally quiet (as far as I can tell – and i'm kind of old, so: some hearing loss — it's dead silent... but I can't find any data on the "floor" or the recorder [dead silent is at least -96dB]).
Here's what it can sound like. Again, I mic'd a steel string guitar out in my backyard with a lavalier mic clipped to the sound hole (mic inside the guitar -- you can't tell how windy it was.)
    http://ftp.sight-creations.com/audio/improv_030612_03.mp3
If it weren't for my amateurish playing, it sounds as good as a professional studio recording.
If you don't need a fancy mic and all you *really* need is good noise reduction... invest in ScreenFlow. It has the BEST noise reduction of any software I have ever used (including Soundtrack Pro, Audicity, Logic, FCPX, you name it...) and you don't need to be editing video to use it. Just turn it on (default setting) and save! Listen to any of my later tutorials on youtube (channel: fxmah)... and realize I'm sitting 6 feet from a window air conditioner/heater that is ON all the time. You would never believe it. BTW - for those tutorials, I use a cheap GE headphone/boom mic combo (gaming headset?)... it's perfect for the job. Always in the right place and always out of the way. Headphone part is not all that great, but I like what I get from the mic.

  • USB Mic and DV Camcorder

I'm making movies of my orchestra classes for my website and would like better audio quality than the DV Camcorder mic. Can I use a USB mic, such as the snowball at the same time? I'm recording straight to the hard drive (iMovie HD). Will it accept both the firewire input from the camcorder and usb from the Snowball and put them both into iMovie? Or wil it record two audio tracks? Just wondered if anyone had tried this. If it won't work with iMovie, will it work with Quicktime Pro or Final Cut Express HD? I haven't used either of them, but I have them....I also have Logic Express if that would help with the audio part. I would like to make the movies as painlessly as possible. I'm uploading four movies of about 15 minutes each every week. Thanks for your input.

    hey there Mark,
sorry to say you're gonna need a cam that does, or a convertor like the Grass Valley/Canopus ADVC 110. send video out from your cam & use a mic(s) w/ a mixer for sound through the converter out over firewire to iMovie. sound & picture need to move through the firewire cable @ same time, otherwise you'll have major sync issues capturing picture, then sound. iMovie as well as other NLEs will only accept 1 input @ a time, so you can't use USB & FW @ same time for capture.
    good luck.

  • Why is my Apple TV cutting out when watching TV and Films?

Hi there, will try to provide as much info as possible but let me know if more is needed.
I have purchased the newest Apple TV (March 2012) recently, and have noticed that it cuts out when I'm watching films and TV shows, but never when I listen to music or the radio. My friends have also noticed they cannot play youtube videos off their iPads onto the apple TV. When it cuts out, it does not say "cannot connect to iTunes" or anything similar to that, it just returns to the home screen and then we can select the computer and TV programme and resume playing as normal. This happens every 5-10 minutes during a show/film though and does get incredibly annoying.
Originally I felt it would be a network problem. We have BT Infinity and the Home Hub 3.0, and I am aware that lots of people have issues with this. However this problem doesn't happen on any other device, nor when playing music. It is specifically when watch movies and TV shows. I have actually swapped the home hub device for a Netgear Cable Router back and forth trying to see if it ever made a difference, and the same problem is still happening therefore I do believe it to be a problem with the Apple TV.
I have checked the troubleshooting advice for the Apple TV and followed that and nothing seems to have helped (unplugging various bits, making sure i'm on the right channels etc.).
In short I have literally no idea what could have happened and what to do about this, and before I actually rang apple I wanted to know if anybody new anything about problems like this and how they can be resolved.
    Many thanks.
PS it is also worth noting that on our homeshare, we can no longer access one of our friends iTunes, despite it being visible it never loads and is invisible to the Apple TV. This also baffles us and we are not sure if it is related!!
Can;t think of any other details but let me know!

I have three Apple TVs at home (one 2nd Gen and two 3rd Gen).  I have not had this issue.  Worst thing that happens is it will not load my content from iTunes after waking it up, so I reboot the Apple TV and that fixes this.
My Dad has a 2nd Gen and it has started cutting out or dropping during playback of movies from iTunes and Netflix.  I tried restoring it over WiFi and also directly from his iMac running Lion and the version of iTunes previous to the latest that changed the iTunes layout (Not sure of the version), but it would fail saying the download was corrupt.  I even downloaded the .ipsw file and tried manually restoring that way, but it failed as well.  I purchased the USB cable for Apple TV to do this.
I just took it home tonight and tried restoring on my iMac running Mountain Lion and the latest version of iTunes and it worked.  I will bring it back to my Dad's and test it there.  I will post the results.
Maybe try this and see if it works.  I noticed that doing it through iTunes that it said it restored the latest version of OS for Apple TV and also the Firmware.
None of the Apple TVs mentioned have been Jailbroken, so not sure if this would be causing issues for anyone else.  Just trying to rule out anything I can think of.
I didn't get a chance to try this next step, since restoring from my iMac worked, but this was going to be my next step:

  • Audio cuts out for a few seconds

    Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this but it happens to me all the time and it's so so annoying.
When playingback the timeline on CS6 the audio cuts out at random places and then it comes back, then it goes again for a few seconds then back again,..while video keeps on playing.....this is just random and it can happen as soon as you press play or after a few seconds and it happens when audio is stereo, mono, mp3,wav,aif, you name it.
Also, it happens regardless of playback quality or timeline render status (red, yellow or green). My computer is quite fast + 24gb RAM so I dont think the PC is a problem, It also happens on a different computer within our studio.
Needless to say that editing under these circumstances is becoming impossible/frustrating and I'm even considering finding other software to edit with! I've found others with this same problem at cretive cow http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/935424
If anyone from Adobe reads this, please help!!!
    thanks in advance

Unfortunately there's no fix for this problem that plagues Classic since release. Considering that a new generation appeared I guess we have no reason to expect a fix anymore.
I also have the problem and it makes the iPod Classic less desirable to be used as a music player than a generic $10 (no name) usb stick.
