USB Modem dial up connection Mac 2 Mac -  possible?

I am trying to find a replacement terminal emulation programme to replace ZTerm. Now that I have an Apple USB modem, ZTerm is useless but I can't find a program that will work in a similar way using USB rather than Serial to connect two computers over a dial up connection.
Anybody?

I did some research and I ran into the FAQ below and it appears that Apple does not provide a USB Modem driver for Windows. We really need to hear from someone who has actually found the driver and is using this modem with Windows.

MY USB modem will not connect to the Internet. The modem appears active on either USB ports and an IP address is assigned. The interface between the modem appears to be the problem. Any ideas?

What did have you do if anything?
I also tried to connect with an ethernet cord, and that too is not working.
What were the results from the Network Diagnostic test when connected by ethernet?
I've been searching online for hours and have found no solution that has worked.
What were those solutions that did not work other than what you already mentioned?

  • Camera / USB card reader not connection to macs anymore - fine with PCs

    Hi there,
I have a Canon EOS 50 which has a CF card - I normally connect this to our macbook pros with a crd reader via usb. Alternatively, I connect the camera directly.
Yesterday, something started to go wrong.
I was connecting the card to download photos - at first it recognised the card as an external drive, but was taking ages to read the photos. Then it flashed an error message up that it couldn't read the format of the disk (it had previously for about a year!).
Now when I connect the card via either reader or by connection to the camera, it doesn't recognise the card at all.
I tried this on both my mac book pros we own. Same issues.
Canon HD camcorder connects absolutely fine via usb, as does Ipod - so it isn't the usb port.
I think the cards are ok- (same issue with two different CF cards)
The camera connected no problem to my brother-in-law's vista machine, and downloaded the image files.
I tried connection with two different usb cables as well.
Any ideas as to what has happened?
    Thanks,
    ThreeIsles

Last year I purchased a USB card reader to have available with my laptop when I travel. It experienced the same problems you are having. It also wouldn't work with my G4.
I looked on the manufacturer's web site and sent their Customer Support an email explaining the problem. They sent me a new reader at no cost. It works. Suggest you do the same.

  • Apple USB Modem - Dial Up

Hello hello. I'm new to boot camp as well as mac. Anyway, I'm trying to make my windows run on Dial Up, but when I connect my Apple USB Modem, it detects it, but it doesn't install it, saying I should go online and check (not that I can since dial up is my only source of internet...). I set up my dial up connection, hoping it would work, but when trying to launch it, it shows me the properties saying something involving the modem in COM1 not existing. Any ideas?

  • Modem Dial Up Connection Dies When I Get a Call

Yes I still use a dialup connection to get on the Internet.  We live in the country and no good prospects yet for high speed.
Anyway, I get kicked off the Internet whenever anyone calls.  (Very annoying)
I believe it is from Call Waiting, am I right?
If I use *70 to turn that off before dialing out, how do I turn it back on when done?
    Thanking you in advance,
    Peter
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

*70 is for that one call only, not permanently
you must dial it before the call
so change your dialup internet access number to whatever it was before but add *70 before it
i think you may have been hitting *70 and then hanging up and then connecting ... that is not how it works.
... and by the way, i like turtles

  • I want to use my ipad as a midi controller on my MacBook pro via USB no with wiFi connection, is this possible ?

hi guys, i am new to garageband.
i have the Ipad 4th generation and just installed garageband on my mackbook pro, i see that i can use my ipad as a midi controller via WiFi but there is a delay, my question is: Can i use my ipad as a midi controller via the USB connection, that will eliminate de lag or delay.
    thanks

Keynote Remote, but you will need wifi. You can set up an ad-hoc wifi network from your Macbook itself ("Create Network" from the Wifi menu), which the iPad can connect to.

  • AirPort Extreme (with modem): Dial-up Connection Set-up

I'm looking for some step by step instructions on how to set-up an AirPort base station (with a modem) for an iMac that does not have an internal modem.
I suspect that this is very easy to do, but I'm trying to help a friend configure this over the phone. So, I am unable to see the windows/instructions they see on their screen.
We have had the computer connected to the internet, but when he tries to log on again after the initial set-up, it fails. It says that it is connected to the base station, but the modem was unable to connect. There doesn't seem to be any information regarding what part of the connection failed or why.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

If more information is required, I would be more than happy to provide it. It just seems like there should be an easy way to set this up.
    Thanks again.

Hi...I having the following problem with my Powerbook G4 1Ghz Titatium. Hope you can give a hand.
I am trying to conect to the internet with dail-up but the System Profiler utility says that "Modem Driver Not Found". I went into Network Preferences, and into Network Port configurations and the option of "Internal Modem" simply does not appear. What can I do?. I have been trying to find any installer for the modem but no lucky so far (I have the OS 10.3.9). I can imagine that the drivers were deleted.
Any help will be highly appreciated. Greetings from Mexico.

  • Bigpond Wireless Broadband USB Modem not connecting in new Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have recently bought one of the latest Macbook Pros and used Migration Assistant to transfer data from my older Macbook. On the older laptop I used a Tesltra Bigpond 7.2 Wireless USB Modem and it connected and worked fine (using default settings and the telstra connection software), however after plugging it into the newer laptop it has been behaving srangely.
Initially it worked fine for about a day, then kept stating that 'The PPP serever could not be found' - I changed the network settings a bit, uninstalled and redownloaded the software and registered the computer. It worked again for about a day then stopped connecting again. Again, the software manager was uninstalled and reinstalled and again it worked for about a day; however it has stopped working completely now and refuses to even be found by the computer. To make it more complicating, it isnt the modem because it works fine in the old computer still!
I have a feeling it may have sonething to do with the APN address but I'm not 100% sure.
Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated!! Thankyou in advance

Yes you are right it works fine outside your mac notebook. But it is incompatible once installed inside the system.
Simple do a google search for "WD blue series drives in mac notebooks" and see what comes up.
I am not lying to you about the problems. You have first hand knowledge that with some mac notebooks the WD blue drives don't work.

WD blue is compatible according to the manufacturer's specifications.

  • Connecting LG VL600 USB Modem to TP-Link MR3020 4G Router

    Hi there!
Im trying to connect my LG VL600 USB Modem to TP-Link MR3020 4G Router. It was working a week ago, then it suddenly stopped. Does anybody know the number to dial to connect the USB modem to the internet? I basically need updated dial-up information to get the USB modem to connect again.
    Thanks in advance!

There is no number to dial.  The USB modem will automatically connect for you if it is working correctly.  All of the connection information is stored in the SIM card which may need replacement pending on what else you can find.
I suggest you download and install the USB software for your computer and then test the connection directly without the aid of the 4G router.  If there are problems with the USB modem then you should be able to see them from the computer.  If not then the problem is with the 4G router and you should check with TP-Link for support.

Check this link from apple support http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1821
Apple suggests disabling 802.11 wireless from windows xp. hope this will solve your problem. The funny thing is apple is not even sure it will fix the problem because they mentioned on their website "in some cases".
    Symptoms
The Apple external USB modem may not connect, or may not maintain a connection for longer than a few minutes if you are using Microsoft Windows XP on MacBook Pro, MacBook, or Intel-based iMac computers that have built-in AirPort/Bluetooth.
    Products Affected
Boot Camp, Apple external USB Modem
    Resolution
In some cases, disabling 802.11 wireless networking in Windows XP may resolve this issue.

  • SLOW internet dial up connection

I bought a Power mac G4 with internal v92 modem. My connect speed is only 28.8k with a average through put of 19k. I can take my wifes PC Computer, plug it into the same wall jack that the Mac was in and get a 50.6K connection with a average through put of 46K. My old PC always connected and still connects at 50.6K on the same wall jack. I am very remote and will never have anything but dial up, 28.8K is not useable.
Reading in some of the OLD posts, it seems like many people with Tiger and the version before it lost connect speed. People wiht older OS have normal speed.
Is there a fix ? I talked with Apple Tech Support and they deny there is a problem.
What about a external USB Modem ? It appears that Zoom makes the only external USB that will run with Mac.
Thanks for any help possible. I am running OS 10.4.7

Thanks for the link to the other discussion. I too have the problem when connecting to the web that It streams the "connecting" message but does not dial or make any noise and is not connected to the phone line. It just continues to stream the "connecting" message. If I select "disconnect" then it streams the "disconnecting" message and is completely hung -the computer is not hung, just the modem. I can sometimes get out of this by disconnecting the modem and plugging it back in. That worked for a while but more and more it just crashes and requires a restart. Then after a restart I can get a 28.8K The streaming/slow conect is random in pattern.
This is serious. I too read the user reports on the Apple Store regarding the USB Modem. No Sale on that Modem. Now, I doubt the Zoom will help either.
Apple needs to realize and respond to this problem, its on going. As I mentioned before, Not everyone in the US has Broadband.
I am test driving this Power Mac G4 to see the differences between it and PC/Windows for my business. It will be a capital expense to buy all new Macs or PC's. I am very impressed with Mac, In fact wish I got a Mac a long time ago. Howwever, If Apple Cant, Wont or does not know how to give a good modem dial up connection, I will not be able to replace my ageing PC's with Macs. My business requires a lot of Internet use.
Please take note Apple, this is a business application, your falling short !!!

  • Apple USB modem disconnects after a few hours??

I bought an imac G5 -- it came without a modem. (After a false start), we bought the Apple USB modem. Now we want to upgrade the operating system, either with Safari or with "Software Update". It tells us we need Mac OS X Update to 10.4.3, and it is 97.0 MB.
We have a fairly slow dial-up connection -- always have, so we usually download large files like these overnight. But our Apple USB Modem won't let us - perhaps it is too unstable. After 6 or 7 hours we get disconnected. (It says we need 8 or 9 hours to download the file). Our main problem is that we can't stay connected for more than 7 hours.
I've made sure under the Network Preferences, for external modem, the Prompt every xx minutes to maintain connection, and Disconnect if idle for xx minutes, are both unchecked. I've turned off the screensaver. I make sure I move the mouse and a window every hour or so. I've phoned my ISP, and they deny a time-limit. I've tried not breating heavy near the computer.
What else can I do? I've always been able to stay on line over-night for download with my old computer/modem, but not with this one. I've tied at least 4 times. Is there something wrong with the Apple USB Modem?
Also, when I tried with Safari, and the modem disconnects, I thought I could just re-log on and start downloading where I left off -- but no. Every time I click the "resume downloading" circle next to the update in the download window, it starts from the beginning. -- it doesn't resume where it left off!
That is the most frustrating part about this -- I've downloaded the first half of the file a half-dozen times, and no matter if I use Safari or Software Update, I can't get the computer to remember the hours of work it just did and simply continue downloading from where it left off. If I could just solve that issue, I could get the system update downloaded.
If we don't solve this, we will never be able update any apple software with large files. Thanks for your help.
    Francis

it's a 3.5 hour round trip to the closest Mac store.
I just want my modem to work right -- the first time. Actually, this is the third modem I've bought (all on-line since I have no mac store close). The first USB modem didn't have a mac driver. The next bluetooth modem said it was mac compatable, but when it arrived, it was only capatable with os9. So I get a modem right from Apple, and darn, I just want it all to work now. I'm tired of foolin around. Why wasn't there an internal modem anyway?
My old modems and macs could download overnight. All I want is for it to be as good as the old stuff.

  • Huawei e17 USB modem

    Hi,
I have one annoying trouble with my huawei e17 USB modem (connected to MacBook Pro):
    • Internet connection works fine when I log in but once I log out and my wife log's in the internet connection just hangs...tries to connect but hangs. Only solution what I have found for this is to remove huawei e17 USB modem and put it back again.
Any idea how this experience when switching between users could be done smoother (no need to remove huawei e17 USB modem all the time)??
    Thanks,

    Hi Defcom,
    Thanks for the info.
It was my understanding that the E220 USB Modem automatically installs the correct mac software.
System requirements listed on the box, Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X
I'm expecting delivery of the iMac middle of next week, so I'll soon find out!
Meanwhile, I'm now getting maximum signal stength on all my Mobile Phones and the USB Modem.
