Usb-printer on Solaris 10 U5(5/08)

Hi,All
I have installed Solaris-10-U5 on hp-xw4300 and self-made machine (gigabyte X38-DQ6 motherboard).
But I can not set up the usb-printer(HP-PSC2150). The printing manager outputs error message.
It seems to be notified with "cfgadm" command. There is no problem until previous version.
Please help me !
Regards,
HIDEO MORITA

...well, I've tried building oss-v4.0-build1016-src-cddl but I haven't been able to get it to work.
In preparation for the build, I did install Sun Studio 12 (from http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/index.jsp ), patched it, and installed gawk-3.1.6 ( from http://www.sunfreeware.com/indexintel10.html ) and ran configure/make install as instructed which successfully completed.
The following is what I get when executing ossdetect:
================================================================================
rem_drv osscore
rem_drv hdaudio
rem_drv ossusb
rem_drv sadasupport
Driver (osscore) not installed.
unloaded osscommon
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' osscore
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' -i '"pci8086,27d8"' hdaudio
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' -i '"usbif,class1"' ossusb
devfsadm: driver failed to attach: ossusb
Warning: Driver (ossusb) successfully added to system but failed to attach
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' sadasupport
/dev/mixer: No such file or directory
================================================================================
To note, the Solaris 10 x86 5/08 installation I am running on is the full distribution +OEM.
I also cannot find the "soundon" or "soundoff" scripts referenced in the OSS build instructions.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

    So Solaris 11.1 is supposed to support USB 3.0 and I think that may have something to do with it. I have two Gigaware 16GB USB thumb drives that work fine with 11.0 FCS but one of them fails under 11.1. Also not recognized but on occasion I can get /var/adm/messages to log something although most times it has nothing.
    So I used a Windows utility to look at both of them and one of them has an older firmware version than the other. The older one doesn't work with 11.1 but the one with the newer firmware runs just fine. Made a nice excuse to upgrade one of them to 32 GB's.

  • Using USB printer on Sun Ray 2

    Can someone direct me to a document or explain how I can configure the Sun Ray Software to allow me the ability to print to a USB printer attached to a Sun Ray 2 thin client. I believe this is possibele using the USB redirection utility but only when connecting to Windows XP desktops. I see it's being done when connecting to Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Any help or info on this would be great.
    Thanks!

    Here is a repost of my article on the sun-ray users mailing list.

    This article is for using Solaris as the Sun Ray server.
    I have used a Sun-Ray local USB attached printer in two ways.
    Precondition1: The printer was using Postscript rendering.
    The printer had its own rendering engine.
    The printer was NOT a dumb windows-driver dependant printer.
    Precondition2 the user logging on needs to have the printer administrator RBAC role to be allowed
    to create /destroy printqueues.
    1) Printing from Solaris.
    Set up a solaris printqueue with
    lpadmin -p printername -v " sunray devicename" -I postscript -T PS -m printermodel
    This will use the solaris lpfilter mechanism to convert the printdata to postcscript protocoll.
    2) Printing from Windows.
    Set up a solaris printqueue with
    lpadmin -p printername -v " sunray devicename" -m printermodel
    Set up the windows printer with a working windows Postscript driver.
    The windows included hplaserjet-postscript driver works. for a hplaserjet printer.
    or any printer emulating the HPlaserjet like many Xerox printers do,
    This setup will generate the Postscript protocol on the windows PC , and it will merely
    "pass-though" the Solaris spooler without change.
    So if you need to print from both the SR server and the windows PC you need to define two spooler queues for each printer. Below are two scripts that have existed in various versions on sun-rays.org that I enhanced a bit and ran from the VDI superstructure to make it do what I wanted. For windows printing you then need to pass the printername as an argument to the "uttsc" startup command.
    uttsc ......... -r printer $printername .........
    # the SCRIPT "set-printer.sh" for printing from a unix desktop
    #!/bin/sh
    MACAddr=`ls -l $UTDEVROOT | sed 's/.*\.//'`
    PrinterName=$MACAddr
    PrinterPath=`ls /tmp/SUNWut/units/IEEE802.$MACAddr/dev/printers/* 2>/dev/null|head -1`
    if [ -n "$PrinterPath" ] ; then
    cat <<.>$HOME/.printers
    _default $PrinterName
    Message="Current Printer: $PrinterName"
    else
    Message="No printer assigned"
    fi
    # Add or remove the printer to the Solaris spooler (choose only the first printer)
    if [ -d /etc/lp/printers/$PrinterName ]; then
    if [ -z "$PrinterPath" ]; then
    pfexec /usr/sbin/lpadmin -x $PrinterName
    fi
    else
    pfexec /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p $PrinterName -v $PrinterPath -A none -o media=A4 -o banner=never -I postscript -T PS -u allow:all
    pfexec /usr/bin/enable $PrinterName
    pfexec /usr/sbin/accept $PrinterName
    fi
    zenity --info –text="$Message"
    # "set-printer.sh" script for Passthrough printing from a windows PC.
    #!/bin/sh
    MACAddr=`ls -l $UTDEVROOT | sed 's/.*\.//'`
    PrinterName=$MACAddr
    PrinterPath=`ls /tmp/SUNWut/units/IEEE802.$MACAddr/dev/printers/* 2>/dev/null|head -1`
    if [ -n "$PrinterPath" ] ; then

  • USB Printer queue gets stuck - SRSS 4.2, SRWC 2.2, SRVC 1.1, VMware View 4

    Hi,
    My environment is VMware vSphere 4 with a few ESX 4 servers. On that, I have a vCenter, a View 4 server and SRSS. Then I have a number of Windows XP desktops.
    When the user logs into his/her desktop via the Sun Ray, everything works including the local USB printer (an HP laserjet). But...you can only print once...then the print queue stays at "Printing" and won't go away. Any further print jobs just get queued up. It also won't let you delete the print job from the queue. The first print job actually does come out on the printer, but doesn't disappear from the XP's print queue.
    Any ideas?
    Jim

    I can duplicate the "white screen of death" with Early Access to vmware view, with Rays running from Solaris/x86. This is in fact not vmware-specific, as I can hang uttsc to an ordinary XP system. To duplicate fairly reliably, I run a Flash example and then "start -> logoff". uttsc doesn't terminate, and truss shows repeated
    /1: pollsys(0x08046690, 2, 0x08046728, 0x00000000) = 0
    /1: ioctl(10, AUDIO_GETINFO, 0x08046620) =0
    This doesn't happen if the IE window is terminated before logout. The behavior appears to be independent of "-F off" in uttsc (but I'm using the Ray audio driver).
    Is there a workaround (other than downgrading) in the vmware view scenario?

  • AE and USB Print / Scan / Copy with HP PSC-2410

    My Airport Express finds my HP printer immediately upon plugging the printer into the AE USB port. Printing to it from various macs around the house has been wonderful...but...In order to use the HP's other functions, such as scanning and copying, it seems that the printer must be directly connected to a mac in order for these functions to work.
    Another poster said that he could not check his ink levels on an Epson printer through an AE USB connection, but could once he directly connected the printer to his Mac.
    It seems that the AE will only act as a print server and will not allow for any other features to be shared.
    Anyone else find this to be the case? Is there a fix? It is a pain to have to unplug from the AE and plug into the Mac every time I want to scan something.
    Thanks!
    STEVE

    ...but...In order to use the HP's other functions, such as scanning and copying, it seems that the printer must be directly connected to a mac in order for these functions to work.
    That is true. The USB port on the AirPort Express suppports only printing.
    Another poster said that he could not check his ink levels on an Epson printer through an AE USB connection, but could once he directly connected the printer to his Mac.
    That is also true. Those utilities depend on a direct USB connection to the printer. See KB 107430, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express: Can't use USB printer utilities while printer sharing.
    It seems that the AE will only act as a print server and will not allow for any other features to be shared.
    That is exactly correct.

  • [SOLVED] cups 1.6 does not find usb printer

    Hello,
    Since I have upgraded to cups 1.6 I can't add a usb printer. Whenever I click on "Find new printer" in the administration web interface, no printer is found.
    Printer is a Samsung ML 1640 which worked flawlessly with versions before 1.6.
    I am using the default config file, no changes except LogLevel debug.  Also tried reinstalling whole cups and splix, no success.

    /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb returns with no error, but no printer is found (according to web interface)
    But when I start /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb manually i get following output:
    DEBUG: list_devices
    DEBUG: libusb_get_device_list=12
    DEBUG2: Printer found with device ID: MFG:Samsung;CMD:GDI;MDL:ML-1640 Series;CLS:PRINTER;STATUS:IDLE; Device URI: usb://Samsung/ML-1640%20Series?serial=144QBAHS311415Y.
    direct usb://Samsung/ML-1640%20Series?serial=144QBAHS311415Y. "Samsung ML-1640 Series" "Samsung ML-1640 Series" "MFG:Samsung;CMD:GDI;MDL:ML-1640 Series;CLS:PRINTER;STATUS:IDLE;" ""
    Why does this new printer not show up in the web interface?
    When i add the printer manually via lpadmin
    lpadmin -p ml1640 -v usb://Samsung/ML-1640%20Series?serial=144QBAHS311415Y -P /usr/share/cups/model/samsung/ml1640.ppd
    I can start a print job but then I only see following job-state in the web interface:
    "Waiting for printer to become available."
    Any advice how to get printing working again?
    Greetings

    I stepped back to the last version and nothing worked. Whats wrong?!?
    Hooked the printer up at another machine and it worked out of the box after installing cups.
    Tailed messages.log when attaching the usb cable and found differences.
    Running udevd --debug showed, that the culprit was:
    aur/android-udev
    Removed that package and everything works.
    Well...  except: now every 5 seconds i have following output in messages.log:
    Aug 19 15:25:35 spt08 kernel: [355081.778863] usblp1: removed
    Aug 19 15:25:35 spt08 kernel: [355081.789091] usblp1: USB Bidirectional printer dev 7 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04E8 pid 0x3292
    But that problem has to wait

  • CUPS not recognizing Epson USB-Printer

    I'm trying to get an Epson Stylus Office Box BX300F to work with Arch x86_64.
    I have followed the CUPS wiki page closely and have installed everything it told me to.
    When i connected to http://localhost:631/admin and clicked 'add printer' the USB printer was not listed. dmesg however showed me that the printer is at least recognized to some extent:
    [ 2295.813154] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd
    [ 2295.951540] usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 6 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04B8 pid 0x0848
    [ 2297.177498] usb 2-1: usbfs: interface 1 claimed by usblp while 'usb' sets config #1
    I tried blacklisting usblp, but then, after rebooting, it got not recognized at all, so i undid that.
    Then i found the printer in the openprint db (link), found the driver that is listed as working perfectly there in the AUR (link) and installed that package. But it doesn't seem to help at all, CUPS still doesn't list any USB printer. I've included the full section of /var/log/cups/error_log with loglevel=debug, hope it helps. Any suggestions on how i can get the printer working are greatly appreciated.
    cupsd restarted at 20:31:19 ; i refreshed http://localhost:631/admin at 20:31:24 ; and i clicked 'add printer' at 20:31:30

    I have gotten around to give this printer another try and when i connected it and read through /var/log/cups/error_log i noticed 2 lines close to the end that seem to be the problem:
    D [24/Aug/2011:12:42:23 +0200] [CGI] libusb couldn't open USB device /dev/bus/usb/002/006: Permission denied.
    D [24/Aug/2011:12:42:23 +0200] [CGI] libusb requires write access to USB device nodes.
    i checked the permissions, but they seem to be allright:
    $ ls -l /dev/bus/usb/002/006
    crw-rw-r--+ 1 root scanner 189, 133 24. Aug 12:42 /dev/bus/usb/002/006
    $ id
    ...,7(lp),10(wheel),96(scanner),97(camera)
    here is the complete part of error_log from connecting the printer:

    i found a related thread ( https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=110477 ) but that deals with digital cameras, so it doesn't really help me. Other forum threads i found about libusb permission errors were mostly people that forgot to add themselves to lp and the like. Does anyone know why i get the permission errors and how i can fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Setup Problem Airport Express / Window XP/ USB printer

    Hello everyone.
    I bought an Airport Exress yesterday (802.11n) and try to hook up to USB printer (Samsung CLP 300) but nothing is happening.
    Existing Setting
    -My base wireless device Linksys (Wireless-G 2.4 GHZ) hookup to the cable modem and computer (Window XP) picks up a base singal thru Linksys WMP54G. Currently all my internet connection works great. The Linksys security setting is WPA-Personal. Also, the address is "assigned by DHCP."
    Propsed setting is that I want to achieve. I have tried for serveral hours but it did not work.
    -I plugged AX to AC outlet and connected USB to samsung clp 300.
    AX sttus lights is Flashing amber. There is no wire connection to internet router.
    -Airport Utility does not pick any signal.
    -I also tried installing a Bonjour but it did not find any printer.
    -Nothing appears on linksys network site survey except my base Linksys.
    Please help~ Thank you very much.

    My first suggestion is to always remove whatever encryption you are using on your router before you set this up. Temporarily take the encryption off of your Linksys router by going through the GUI interface in a web browser.
    In your post, you do not mention if you have used the Airport Utility yet. Have you? This should be loaded onto your computer and you should run it to see if your computer can see the AX. If you can't, then take some ethernet cable and hook it directly to your computer. Run the Utility again.
    If you can see it, then follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1731?viewlocale=en_US
    It is important that your router if broadcasting its Network Name, or SSID, and that in the Airport Utility that you choose "Join an Existing Network"
    Once you unplug the AX, test to see if you can print to your printer. If not, plug your printer into the AX through its USB port. Run Bonjour for Windows. While connected, see if you can print a test page. If so, then disconnect your computer from the AX and try another print job.
    The AX takes a minute to establish a connection, so if it starts blinking yellow as soon as you unplug it from your computer, wait a bit. If it turns green, then you should be good to go.
    Put your encryption back in this order: you must know what the key code is and you must enter it into the AX first; save; AX will start to blink yellow; secondly, go back to your router and re-enter the same key; save. Wait a minute, and see if the AX turns green.
    Try printing a test.
    Hope that works. Some printers are tricky with the AX.

    I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

  • My Cox Cable/Telephone splits to a telephone modem and a broadband modem.  The BB connects via ethernet to a Cisco Linksys E2500 wi-fi (whatever).  Can I plug my usb printer into the E2500, configure, and then print from my iPad?

    I have just purchased an iPad 2.  I have wi-fi for roku and have connected the iPad to it.  I want to print to my usb printer.  My connection is:  Cox Cable spit to telephone and broadband.  The broad band feed goes to a Cox modem and feeds the wi-fi.  The Cisco Linksys E2500, wi-fi's the Roku and iPad.  Can I USB from the wi-fi to the printer, configure (however), and then print from my iPad?
    If not, how?
    All comments will be appreciated.

    the ipad cannot airprint to a non airprint printer.... i think that the only solution is to install helper software on a computer that has an attached printer and share it through the computer only...computer would have to be always left on

  • How to add generic USB printer

    Hi-we have an old Samsung ML 6060 laser printer that we have had networked via ethernet to 2 macs and a PC. Has always worked fine. Now we have added a new HP photo printer to our system and have it hooked up via the ethernet. Since we don't have enough spaces on our router for both printers, we want to use a USB connection for the old Samsung. We have it connected directly to our intel iMAc and want to use print sharing to our Macbook Pro. Problem is getting the USB connection up and printing. System profiler sees the printer. The driver is old and probably not very functional on the new system although it worked fine with the ethernet connection. Samsung no longer issues new mac drivers for this printer. Printer set-up utility has a hard time finding the printer when we delete and try to re-add it. We have managed to get a test to print once only. Otherwise, the dialog box says it is printing but the data light on the printer does not flash as normal and nothing is printed and everything hangs this way. So we thought we could try adding it under the generic USB printer description but not sure how to fill in the "Device URI" window USB://_________. Can anyone help with this or do we have to go out and get a new laser printer ( my husband prefers it to the ink-jet for printing music scores ) Thanks for any help!

    Never mind, I figured it out. Thanks anyway!

    Just updated the latest Epson software printer update from Apple. Now all my prints look solarized. How do I get rid of the new update and go back to the perfect prints I had before? Help please. Wasting ink and paper at the moment!!!!!!
    I have tried the printer with my laptop (not updated) and everything is fine. It's just the beautiful 27" Imac that can no longer print.

    Might be a corrupted printer preference file ...
    Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
    Move the com.apple.PrinterPrefs.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac, restart the printer...

  • Trying to print w/ an Epson Photo R260 and a Buffalo LPV3 USB Print Server

    Long story. I had a home network with my iMac, my wife's PC and a Brother Multi-Function (networkable) printer...everything worked great. Tried to add an Epson Photo R260 so I can print photos and DVDs. Purchased a Buffalo LPV3 USB Print Server. Spent two long nights on the phone with Buffalo Tech Support (great guys!) and got the printer working with both the iMac and PC...so it seemed. Turns out the Epson would print documents from the iMac, but not CD/DVDs...it kept telling me that the CD Printer Driver wasn't installed. After several calls to Epson Tech Support (not so great), found out that the culprit was the Gutenprint Printer Driver that the Epson was using with the Buffalo Server via Bonjour. Replaced the Gutenprint with the proper Epson driver and everything is hunky-dory...as long as the Epson printer is plugged directly into the back of my iMac. As soon as I connect it to the Buffalo Print Server, it stops working.
    I'm no rocket surgeon, but it seems to me that if when I'm setting up the printer with Bonjour, if I could direct it to find the proper driver, everything would be happy and I could print away. Any ideas how I can make all this wonderful stuff work together? I'd even be willing to forgo using the Epson on the network if there's a good (and relatively inexpensive) way of making the printer work with my iMac via Bluetooth. Thanks...

    For the record, I have successfully been able to print with the printer connected straight to the Macbook.
    Is the new 7.1.1 firmware going to do magic?

  • HP t510 Thin Client and USB Printer Redirectiion

    We have HP t510 thin clients connecting to server side XenCenter and running Windows 7 virtual sessions hosted on the server. We are trying to connect a USB lablewriter printer to one of the thin clients. On the t510 device, XEN Connection General Settings Manager/Local Resources/Local Device Redirection is selected for Printers/Printer Mapping. Also on the t510 device under Peripherals/USB Manager, Protocol/All USB is set to Citrix and Devices has the USB printer selected/checked and set to Redirect.
    We have also tried within the assigned Windows session, a registry key has been created under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB\Devices, using both a generic redirect for all usb printers as well as device specific using the VID and PID hardware information of the printer.
    When we have booted into the Windows session and have installed the USB drivers/printing software and physically conencted the usb printer, it is not being recognized by Windows at all. Device Manager is not showing any unknown devices or anything.
    Has anyone seen this same issue? Is there an easy workaround? Will there need to be a hardware policy written in XENCenter?
    Thank you,

    Hi Mitchell,
    You might get better assistance on the HP Enterprise Business Forum since you have a business class PC.

  • Can no longer see USB Printer - help needed

    Hi
    I have a macbook air connected via usb to an hp deskjet 840c.
    Always worked fine - today I tried to print a document and the HP print utilities said it could not connect to the usb printer.
    I tried several times to change the settings and reinstalled the drivers, but nothing happened.
    I reset the printing system, which deleted the printer queue. Now the printer doesn't even show up if I try to add it again on printers & faxes. The printer doesn't show up on system profiler as well.
    The macbook usb port works fine with any other devices.
    Any hint?
    Thanks

    Hi alex:
    I am not being critical of the Macfixit site, but I would NEVER download a system software update from other than the Apple site.
    It is very difficult (translate impossible) to tell from here what happened. Usually those sorts of problems are attributable to changes, but I suspect you have already looked at that.
    At this point, I think I would do an archive and install to try to get back to where you were. An A&I will install a fresh OS X while retaining your files, programs, and settings. I always suggest backing up before any software changes. The fresh A&I will install the drivers (including HP) that were originally distributed. You would, of course, need to run software update to bring everything up to current level.
    Barry
    P.S. If the problem persists after the update, I think I would suspect some sort of printer hardware problem.
