USB shutdown

Yet another morning post.  I have a picoscope which is nothing more than a USB ocillascope. I have a problem when the program has a hard shut down because the scope does not go through its shutdown procedure. I can then unplug the USB and pulg it back in, however, i dont think the end user is going to want to do this. Is there a way to take care of this in some initalization routine?

How is the program getting it's 'hard shutdown'? Your program should be designed so that the user cannot press the abort button on the toolbar or the file>exit menu item or close ('x') button. The abort button or the entire toolbar can be hidden and you can trap the others with the event structure so you can do an orderly shutdown.

  • Mount USB, Shutdown,

    Hello,
I'm not very new to Linux and switched to arch after using Ubuntu and a little bit gentoo and Mandriva. So I know how to mount beeing root, howto modify confugration files (fstab),
But here is some things that not works, probably a configuration to adjust : I able to mount with the xfce panel since I added a entry in the fstab, but I am unable to write as normal user. This is not useful when I need programs to write (editors). On the others distro this worked the first time. I plugged the key and the Icons appeared on the desktop and where mountable. My user is added to storage and the groups necessary to access usb drives. (May be not all).
    2. I'm unable to shutdown the laptop with xfce. I have to enter as root and write halt each time. If needed I will bring the error message of xfce wich says something like unable to access ????????.
    3. Some others errors appears during the start of xfce like ???missing on display????
Yes I know I should bring more infos. They will follow if some one answers to the first
    Thanks for all.

On a Winbox right now, so I can't check my files. I had the same issue (well both of them actually). As I recall the shutdown and reboot from X, was another policy.fdi for HAL. I'll check back when I get home and boot the archbox - if there is no answer yet I post again.
Yes I think that was it. this is my

  • USB SHUTDOWN AND SUPERDRIVE FREEZEUP

    Hi
After 3 Weeks of waiting I recieved my Black Macbook today
    2.0 Ghz Processor
    1Gb Memory
    80 Gb Harddrive
    My Issues are these
1st: Whenever I disconnect any USB items (IPOD, Printer) the computer shuts off.
2nd: When Importing CD's into itunes sometimes the superdrive will freeze up and I will have to force quit to get the Cd out.
Has anyone been having these problems, what did you do?

Well, both times the usb was disconnected and computer shut off it was an accidental disconnect. Tell you the truth, I don't know what happens when I eject the device. I'll try it here and tell you what happens. I was told in an apple chat session that it was a pretty big deal if the computer was shutting down when usb device is disconnected without ejecting.
Some of the cd's that I'm trying to import are pretty scratched I guess, but some are hardly scratched at all. It usually only freezes up on one or two tracks on the whole cd though.
    What do you think?

What is this ...WIMBoot is a feature that we can boot from .wim file instead of extract content to harddrive.WIMBoot made for computer or tablet that have small size of storage (eg. 32GB OR 16GB) for increase for free storage space. I suspect that the problem with the Intel GMA has been fixed, at least my W3 which is effectively the same 2760 archetecture as the W510 installed as update, and a W510 should install normally. For the w3 when Win10 complained about "not enough room" I just pointed it at the 64GB microSD and it put the recovery files there. Why did you need to remove yours ? Giving it a few days then I'll probably upgrade the 510 as well. BTW the W3 is handling dual big monitors & the Targus dock on W10 with no problem. Plays video nicely.

  • Connect to wireless printer for first time

I'm trying to connect to my Epson Artisan 810 printer with my brand new mac for the first time.  I'm new to mac so please forgive my ignorance.  With my windows xp laptop, I downloaded the driver from Epson, installed, it found my printer and I was off to the races.
For the mac, do I need to connect to the printer with a usb cable for the first time?  I went to the epson site and it sounds like I click on the apple, select updates and something should happen, but nothing.  I've tried to discover devices thinking that would trigger something, but all that it has found is the memory card on the epson printer.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    toby

    Sig,
Thanks, but this is an existing printer that is already set up to my network and works great printing wirelessly for iPads, google print, win7, etc.  My issue was getting my mac book pro to print.  I'm new, very new to macs and after following the instructions for setup, it still didn't work.  I found this article on justanswer and it worked great.
Seems once I plugged into the printer, mac recognized the printer and did its update, I had to disconnect from the usb, shutdown the printer, reset print and fax in mac preferences, reboot the mac.  Once mac came up, i restarted the printer, went back into print and fax and selected the "+" sign to add the printer back in.  Once I did that, printing was working great.  Seems like a lot of steps compared to what I did for xp laptop and win7 laptop, but I'm still liking the mac.  I just wish some of this stuff was documented better on apple's site.
Again, thanks for the help.  I'm sure I'll be asking more questions.

G5 dual 2ghz.  Been unplugged for a while. Powers up but no video or power to usb keyboard.  Boots up fine in safe mode, restart into normal mode ok. After shutdown, back to same issue.  What's happening?

I keep seeing people ask and the advice to replace if it has been unplugged, but really have nothing to confirm that from my experiences.
My experience is that a weak or dead battery can cause much more than date and time issues.
I have seen it time and time again.
Deal with used machines and you will quickly learn....
I'll give no "recipe" or set list of symptoms, but the range of irregularities that can occur make it a quick and easy first line of troubleshooting, especially when the machine has been off the mains for a few months.
Why fight mysterious maladies and troubleshoot with the knowledge that the PRAM battery is beyond it's useful life.
    Maybe they recharge?
Not likely. They are chemically nasty, disposable, one way discharge batteries.
    They aren't Lithium-ion batteries

  • Satellite P750 - Shutdown issue after removal of external monitor USB 3 hub

Have operated my Satellite P750 laptop with external DeII monitor for a year or more now.
Monitor has a Usb 3 hub. (i have some ext HDD plugged into these. So far no issues. I unplugged the monitor usb hub from laptop (to create wndows image backup straight through the sole usb3 port on laptop.
After this finished i found that i was unable to shutdown or restart laptop. It gets to the light blue 'shutting down' screen; HDD light flashes for 5/10 secs then it stops accessing disk with power still on and stuck at blue shutdown screen; laptop even sounds like it shuts down.
Two things, i can hold down power button till hard stop, then press again to restart, and all is fine; no error messages when win 7 start up again. Or i have once just left it sitting without holding power button- it seemed to be like this for about 4 hours (monitor went to standby cause idle) before powers down.. When i start laptop after this i get windows warning failed to shut down properly.
It took me a while to work out which device was causing the issue; but can now replicate any time.
So - unplug monitor usb hub from laptop; laptop fails to shut down/restart.
Replug DeII usb hub back to laptop; no problem laptop back to normal shut down.
Any ideas??? (this means whenever i go portable with laptop i have to hard shut down/ hold power key to turn it off????)

To be honest I dont know why the system cannot shut down properly without connected USB monitor hub but system shut down issues are mostly related to some processes which are running in the background.
Sometimes such processes are locked and could not be closed due to different reasons. This may prevent the system from shut down
    Maybe this is the case
Try to clean the system as well as the registry using CCleaner (its freeware tool).
You should also check what processes are running in the background maybe one of this processes is related to the hub which cause your shut down problem

  • After Mavericks installation USB extern hd won't let the system shutdown

after the Mavericks installation my UBS extern hard drive won't let the system shutdown or restart.
If I unmount the USB HD and shutdown from apple menu or keyboard combination(control+eject key) then goes system down but without unmount shows just grey display with cursor and never go out. And the after the key combination control + eject then i can see the login field with restart, shutdown button then i can click shutdown button the system goes down. What do I have to do?

    Bump.
Lots of people are having this issue with no real good answers. I hope apple devs are reading the blogs and get us a fix for this quick. I had this problem after upgrading to mavericks, then I did a clean install to mavericks and still have the same issue. I already miss Steve.

  • Tecra R840 do not shutdown after waking from sleep (USB, BT is not working)

    Hello,
    I've a problem with my R840 running win7pro + SSD.
    After waking it from sleep:
    - no USB activity (but there is power in the ports since I can see the leds on in the external HDD or mouse)
    - my Bluetooth mouse stops working
    - my internet connection will work after 1 or 2 minutes of waiting
    - and...the laptop will not shutdown unless I press the physical on/off button for 5 secs or so!!!
In device manager everything seems ok! The Power management in all the devices/USB hubs etc are set to not turn off the devices to save power!
Already clean booted the laptop several times and the problem remains!
Everything is just fine if the laptop do not sleep!
But I put it in a sleep mode and the I wake it I have all those problems!
    Any sugestions?
    Best Regards,
    paulo

    >But I have the SSD for almost 2 years or so and it worked without this issue for a long time!
    >This appeared (or at least I detected it) suddenly.
Hi Paulo this would mean that there is nothing wrong with the BIOS because as you said above: the unit worked properly in the past.
I guess the system is muddled up and does not work properly after waking up from sleep mode:
Possible solution -> the system should be reinstalled. In case youve got the Toshiba recovery medium, such OS installation / recover process would be very easy and does not take very long

  • IdeaCenter - USB thumb drives cause crash/shutdown

Firstly ,  I have this desktop
    IdeaCentre B540 - 25681JU
Every now and then when I insert a thumb drive in to the USB the fan will kick in on full force for about 2 seconds and then the computer will shut down. Ever since I bought the machine new.
It's not limited to a single thumb drive, it has occurred with both a Kingston and Patriot brand.
When ever I have lined the drive up and inserted it quickly and as straight as possible nothing has happened; it generally seems to occur when I am more casual about inserting it with less concentration.
It has probably happened about 10-12 times in 6 months- which doesn't sounds like a lot, but its not right all the same and it would be more if I were more lax about it.
Any ideas? Or others with the same problem?
    Damien

    hi damien5000,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums
    Can you try to:
    1. Boot the PC into the BIOS by continuously tapping F1 on startup
    2. When you're in, try to insert the flashdrive
If the unit shuts down while inserting it in carefully, there's a big possibility that something is shorted inside (probably the I/O board) that's causing the PC to shut down and you need to contact lenovo for service.
If the unit doesn't shutdown, try to boot into safe mode and try to insert and access the flashdrive. If everything's ok, perform a clean boot, restart the computer in normal mode and observe the PC.
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers

  • USB Hub / Can't Shutdown

I just bought a Swann USB Hub for my printer, scanner, microphone and the lead for my camera and/or iriver. I was at a Apple store and they recommended me to buy the Swann Traveller Slimline Hub as it is the one they use.
They all work fine, but when I shutdown the screen blanks, the light on the mini stays on and the mouse stays lit up.
If I unplug the power to the hub the mini shutdowns ok.
The hub says it is for Mac 10 and up.
I see this problem a lot around the year 2001 in Google, but nothing recently.
All the peripherals work on their own and the mini shutsdown ok with them, it is only when the hub is used there is a problem.
Apple's site suggest you use a hub to make up for the 2 only usb ports on the mini, but I don't want to crawl under the desk to unplug it everytime so you can shutdown.
    What can be wrong ?
    MacMini 1.25Ghz PPC G4 512MB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well I finally solved the problem, very strange though.
I found a tecnical support phone number for Swann.
They told me that Macs and Tiger gets confused with powered hubs and powered peripherals, so to fix this you need to unplug the power to the hub.
The strange thing is I bought the powered Swann hub because I had a un-powered hub before that would not work at all.
Now everything works and shuts down.

  • Elitebook 8460P - Shutdown and USB problem

We're having a very odd problem.  When the system (HP Elitebook 8460P running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise) is online over wireless, everything works fine.  HOWEVER, 2 very odd behaviors manifest if the system is not connected to a wireless internet connection:
    - It will not shutdown.  The system will hang at "shutting down . . ." message. If the power is turned off (5 sec press on power button), it will boot up the next time saying that it was not shut down properly.
    - one of the USB 3 ports will not work (this is incredibly odd!).  Not sure how the 2 could be connected, but apparently they are!
The system is well-maintained, and shows no signs of viruses or malware.  All drivers and software are up to date, including BIOS.  If the system is connected any working wireless connections, neither problem occurs.

    Hello!
I suggest you open your command prompt and run the "sfc /scannow" command to ensure that your system files are intact.  Make sure to post the result.

  • Usb ports and shutdown problem

    hi
im using win xp with bootcamo on my macbook 13"
sometimes i close the lid while xp still running.
when i open it, i cant use any of the usb ports....i have to restart in order to use the usb port again. and that brings me to another problem - the computer get stuck in the "logging off" screen...i need to press the power button for a couple of seconds, and then turn it on again....
so, usb not working and computer freeze on shutdown....
    help anyone??
    thanks

In Vista, you can go into Power Options control panel and change how and when devices, like USB, will go into low power mode or not.
Of course better drivers could help, too.
At this point, I would clean up and repair the drive; make sure you have a good image (WinClone).
Along with chkdsk there is system file checker that will look for some types of errors
    sfc /scannow
But it sounds like the hard restarts have a toll in the file system's integrity.

  • Elgato video to USB has become unreliable after shutdowns and restarts

I have Yosemite 10.10 on an early 2009 iMac, and an Elgato Video capture device with latest software (1.1.5)
The messages "Device could not be initialized" and also "Please connect your Elgato Video capture hardware to any USB 2.0 port" come up after I have had a shutdown and restart.
For 2 or 3 years i have operated this system with no trouble, but as the iMac software became upgraded, and also the Elgato S/W upgraded, the problem has come up, so now I am reluctant to shut down.  However, there are times it must be, such as when the power company shuts service down for maintenance - happens a lot lately.  I have tried different ports, and done the unplug and replug routine, but it takes dozens or even hundreds of attempts until one time it works.  then i have to be sure not to "quit" after a recording session, or the problem comes up all over again. Also I tried using a USB hub, with no success.  Also, I have tried to reset of the USB bus routine (Command-Option-P and R keys during startup) with no success.

Get rid of CleanMyMac and DivX. Add much more RAM. You don't have nearly enough for all that you are trying to load.

  • Portege R835 USB 3.0 port problem (Shutdown everytime)

    Hello,
The problem is that the USB 3.0 port continues to turn off shortly after connecting any device (mouse, usb memory, printer...).
The only way to restore it's functionality is to reboot.  I have continued to have this problem since I bought the computer.
There is no issue with the 2 USB 2.0 ports.
    I have bios 3.0, win 7 64bit home premium.
Few other people have address the same problem here before but I didn't see any solution.
    Please Help!
