USB Turntable Issue

Hi,
I have an iMac, and I'm running OS X 10.6.5. I'm trying to use an Audio Technica USB turntable to convert LPs to MP3. I used this turntable on my old PC, it connected fine, and I had no issues. However I recently switched to Mac, and my iMac is not recognizing the turntable when I plug it into the USB slot. I know for a fact that it's not the USB port on my computer because it works for other devices. I highly doubt it's the cable, as it worked fine on my PC, and the record player has been sitting in a closet untouched for about a year. Has anyone else experienced an issue like this? Is there something I need to install in order to use my turntable?

I installed Audacity, but when I plug the turntable into the usb port, the turntable is not being recognized by my computer. Nothing pops up on the desktop
I did recording but did it all a different way. I haven't used your equipment so I am not speaking from direct experience.
I am not sure your turntable will appear on the desktop. If I plug my camera into my computer by USB it does not appear on the desktop but there are various Mac and manufacturer utilities that do see it.
As I mentioned before, you may have to change your sound input settings in the sound preferences pane. I refer you to page 15 of the manual that can be downloaded at: [http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/turntables/8b88447e3530f153/index.html>

  • Garageband won't open at all now -- plus USB turntable issues

Applemeisters: I haven't used GarageBand in a couple of months. Now it won't open at all. The icon flickers for a couple of seconds on the dock and then disappears. I have a 10.2.8 operating system and about 3 GBs of hard disc space (I know, the usual remedy is to clear up more space, but I've had much less space and it's worked then).
Meanwhile, I bought an Ion turntable months ago and have tried repeatedly to record lps -- only to have very distorted sound, much worse than the regular stereo downstairs. Is the Ion supposed to be a plug and play with a Mac when you plug it directly into a USB port in your G4 tower? The Audacity software that is supposed to turn the lp into CD isn't doing its job apparently because the USB turntable sounds fine downstairs when I plug it into the console and speakers that play my o9dl fashinoned regular stereo.
Any help you can provide, I will appreciate. Thanks.

The problems are caused by third party input managers/enhancers that have not yet been updated by their developers to comply with the standards used by Safari 3.2.1. and/or Safari 4.
    In your case these are:
    x7e3000 - 0x7e3fff com.aladdinsys.mmenabler 7.1.0 (99) /Library/InputManagers/MagicMenuEnabler/MagicMenuEnabler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ MagicMenuEnabler

    0x254a000 - 0x254dfff com.yazsoft.SDSafariBundle ??? (1.0) /Users/peterdignam/Library/InputManagers/SpeedDownload Enhancer/SpeedDownloadEnhancer.bundle/Contents/Resources/SDSafariBundle.bundle/ Contents/MacOS/SDSafariBundle
You fill find them in one or either of these folders:
    Home/Library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/Library/Application Support
although the exact location is indicated in your crash report as quoted above - look under 'Binary Images'.
Close Safari and delete them, then restart Safari and it should be working normally.
Check with the developers of the plug-ins in question for updates that are Safari 4 compliant.

  • Recording noise using USB turntable

I'm getting intermittent distortion/staticy noise at times when trying to record my LP's using "Audacity" software (1.2.5 for Intel Mac) and an audio-technica AT-LP2D USB Turntable. It is random, and comes out of nowhere at any time when recording. Once it starts, it persists. I've been able to complete several LP recordings, but it's very frustrating. I have to abandon the recording and start over if the noise starts up.
I've changed the USB cable, used a different USB 2.0 port on the back of my iMac, reinstalled the "Audacity" software, and reinstalled the stylus assembly - nothing eliminates the noise.
The below is a quote from audio-technica Repair/Support when I asked them about this noise problem:
"...there is a known problem with certain Mac computers experiencing "distortion" when using USB audio devices. This problem is not exclusive to our product, and has been documented online by several USB audio device users. I believe this to be a USB audio driver issue. I highly recommend contacting the folks at Apple about this issue."
I've not been able find anything in Apple Discussions or Audacity Forum that point to any inherent problem with either the iMac hardware or the USB turntable. The very random nature of the noise problem would indicate a defect in the turntable USB circuitry. I might add that when I'm monitoring noise (on my iMac while recording using "Audacity"), there is NO NOISE monitored at a clock radio connected to the turntable (turntable "LINE" output to "AUX" input of the clock/radio).
Has anyone heard of this problem? Any suggestions?

Be sure to try disconnecting all other USB devices (such as hard drives and printers) while doing the recording. All devices except for your standard mouse and keyboard, that is. Since they all connect to the same USB bus, there may be some interference.
Alternately, you can connect the line output of the turntable to the audio input of the iMac (using an adapter for RCA to mini-stereo jack), and not use the USB connection. You can monitor the sound while recording with the play-through setting in your recording software, or by running this simple program called LineIn.

i have a mid 2011 i5 imac and i want to transfer my vinyl records to itunes but i dont know what usb turntable would be best for my imac that has compatible software for transfer to itunes

    Hallo,
I use an Akai usb turntable with the Audacity sw delivered with it. To monitor during recording I also use the LineIn utility (all this on a Macbook Pro with Mavericks).
It works fine, only the input volume of the usb audio port cannot be adjusted (at least I did not yet discover how to do it) and the volume of the music is lower than other music imported into iTunes from CD or iTunes store, but still acceptable.
    Success, Jean

I used a usb turntable to import old vinyl records into iTunes. Then with the cloud and iTunes match I put them on another Mac.  The songs come up in the music list but they are greyed out.  How do I get them recognized.  The symbol states the songs were downloaded from iCloud.  I would like to get them to play so that I can make a playlist, and burn a CD.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Can garage band be used with usb turntable to transfer lp's to digital?

i have a number of lp's that i want to transfer to my mac, is garage band capable of doing that or do i need other software? input appreciated, thanks
    17 G4 Powerbook - macmini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can do that with Garageband, but I wouldn't say it's the best software to do that. It will not split the cuts into the individual songs, and so unless you record one song at a time, each side of the LP will end up as one long cut. Then you will have to export each individual section to end up with songs. But if you already have GB and the USB turntable, you might just try it and see how it works. I have Peak and that works better for this type of thing.

  • Macbook Pro,USB Hub, Maschine, USB Turntable, Audio Interface

So I have a MacBook pro 13 inch. I'm also using Maschine and a USB turntable to sample from. My problem is I want a USB audio interface so that the audio comes out clearer on these KRK Monitors I have. If I get a USB hub will I be able to use the midi options with the hub using Maschine or have audio going in and out of the same hub with an audio interface? Please help

I get the same type of problem with my usb hub when my usb3-enabled hard drives are connected, but not all the time.
Without the usb hub i never have a problem, which seems like the hub is the problem.
Things started to happen when I started using usb3-capable hard drives

  • Can i record music from vinyl records to iPad via usb turntable?

I have an old desktop PC but recently purchased an iPad and was wondering if I plugged in my usb turntable, could I record songs from vinyl records to the iPad?  If so what app would be best?

This is a classic task for a computer. One I used to do frequently. I used the Amadeus application to record and, where necessary, edit the music. The application can filter the recorded tracks to eliminate clicks and hiss among other things. I then saved the files and imported them into iTunes. From there I could do anything that iTunes let's me do such as burn CDs, use the music in videos and of course copy them to an iPod, iPad or iPhone.

  • Vinyl records to itunes via USB turntable

I have a Sony USB turntable which I am trying to use to convert some old albums of mine to songs playable on iTunes.
I have figured out a way to do it, but it seems awful tedious, as I have to record the songs as a track in Garageband, then save it and convert to an mp4, then import into my itunes library.
It works, but I must record one song at a time to keep them separate (if I record one side of an album, it records as one song).
I'm thinking there must be some Mac-compatible software out there that would simplify the process, and allow me to separate the tracks.
Also, does anyone have experience with this process as far as which settings to use?
Should I save the garageband track first as a garageband file, and if so, can I save at the compressed "small" size to save space on my HD, or will I sacrifice too much quality.
Again, I've been able to accomplish the task, but it seems a bit awkward and I could use some pointers.
I am running Snow Leopard on the G5 computer I am using with the USB turntable, but I also have a Macbook Pro running Lion if that would do a better job.
    thanks

  • Audio problems with a USB turntable using Linein, right channel not playin

I have an Audio Technica usb turntable and I am using Linein software to get the audio in. I am now missing the right channel. I use the USB connection and I have tried different cables so that is not the problem. I also tried using the RCA cables, plugged into the micro phone/line-in port via an an RCA to single stereo adapter up which did not solve the problem either. In fact when I switched the red white, left right cables the sound still only came out from the left channel and subwoofer. Both channels work fine with Itunes so it is not the speaker system. I am thinking that it is a setting problem with the software either the Linein or Mac OS. Does anyone use Linein and what settings should I be looking at, Midi settings, Sound preferences? Thanks.

  • MSI Gaming 5 USB ports issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, so as the title says it, sorta of a huge USB ports issue just happened after installing the motherboard / windows / all drivers, even restarted a few times
then tested the processor and video card.
Everything ok to that point, I left the pc opened for 3 hours, shut it down, the next day..I couldn't type the windows password.
Alright restart, that maybe one of those kinks that goes away on it's own I guess..Switched each device in different ports..nothing, tried only one device..still nothing.
Tried only usb2.0 ports then 3.0 port > a a little panic kicked in :D
So, in my bios I was seeing 2 keyboards 2 mice..ok...got a bios update from msi site..latest one..flash ..reboot..still nothing.
Strange part was..they were working just fine in bios and everything prior to windows loading, even after that mouse was showing power ( led was ok )but no functionality.
Safe mode didn't help..the miracle of last known good config saved the day.
BUT after choosing the option..ok it started working....randomly..I was typing the windows pass...and right in the middle ...it stopped again..mouse was working...tried again..stopped at 75% of the password.
Tried again...it worked > Reinstalled every driver.. seems stable for now, though being day 2 of this whole deal.
So if anyone honors me with enough time to read the story and maybe relate I would glady appreciate it.
Guys if anyone had any usb related incidents with any of the Z97Gaming boards please share

    Thank you

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delay in all of this and thank you for the input.
Specs are below, and this is something currently in the process of being upgraded.
    I7 4790k / MSI Gaming 5 / Sirtec 500W / 8 gb ram  Corsair Vengeance / AMD sapphire 7970 GHZ / one single HDD 1 GB
The Windows installation went fine on 2 other colleagues from work.
For the moment stable, I removed and reinstalled all USB related drivers.
It was a weird one though..

I've always been partial to Numark and Audio-Technica. Have several DJ friends and a client who runs a DJ business, and they use Audio-Technica stuff almost exclusively.
You may be surprised at how easy it is...
With the exception of cameras (webcams especially) Macs are pretty much "Plug &Play" with anything USB, and even though I've never used one, reviews say you just plug the turntable in and it reads as a drive.
