Hi Everyone
Is it possible to acquire images from a web video-cam with Labview/Imaq.
which is connected via USB port ?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Dogan (how do I get that g correct?)
I think you are using a non-english (or some other languages) OS?
If so have a look at this thread

    You control the camera for Skype from within Skype, so  Skype must be running to running to make video work.

    . My web cam is connecting to computer via usb port.
    Is there a way in which i can get the media stream
    from the webcam which is then ready to be use by java?
    Or is there a way in which i can acess the stream data
    from usb port
    many thanks
    sunHi,
    You can try a package named: JTwain, which is available at http://asprise.com/product/jtwain.
    JTwain supports all kinds of digital cameras and scanners. You can use Java to access, contorl digital cameras and scanners, and of course, to acquire images with flexible settings.
    The developers' guide is available @ http://asprise.com/product/jtwain/devGuide.php
    In the simplest case, one line of Java code can solve your problem.
    Good luck!

    I just find the section out for you about remote control of your
    camera:
    1.7.1 Remote Control.
    Redlake Imaging also supplies the Serial1 program that enables a
    computer to control the
    MotionScope system from a remote location through the serial port.
    Refer to Manual Addendum
    9400-0014 for detai
    ls of the Serial1 program and how to control the
    MotionScope system from a
    remote computer using a standard communications program.
    So you need to find the serial command (for RS232) in manual addendum
    9400-0014. I couldn't find it in website maybe I did not search
    throughly, but you may have it if you own the camera. And these
    commands are just for controlling the camera system, not grabbing the
    image, so you may need a frame grabber to get the image into your
    computer and do the further processing.

    You can try it, but probably not.
    This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
    If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion).  You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
    If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

    Hi, Vikas-
    After a brief bit of research, you're definitely hitting upon the limitation of the browsers.  Not all of the browsers have implemented this part of the HTML5 standard, so you're going to either have to use Flash or be limited to these specific browsers.

  • Usb video camera and tv card /dev/video

    I have a usb video camera and a pci tv card on my computer. However when I reboot they change between /dev/video0 and /dev/video1. How can I set it up so that every time they will be assigned the same /dev/videoX device?

    I'll bet you are having a similar problem to that which happens with disk drives.  Take a look at this wiki article on how to deal with drives that swap.  I think the same technique can be applied to supplement 60-persistent-v4l.rules.
    I've not tried this, YMMV

  • Driver for USB Web-camera?

    I'd like to use a cheap web camera as an input device to Labview so that
    I can play with the image processing features.
    Does anyone have a driver for something like that? I've looked at the
    NI web site and I haven't found anything for USB. Lots of firewire, IEEE 1394,
    but no USB.
    Jim

    That's a joke, right? Very hard? Other that the very specific USB drivers
    that Iomega provides with their USB zip drives for WinNT, there are no drivers
    for USB for WinNT. There was some software developer down in India that
    allegedly had USB drivers for NT and like a fool I tried to use them. Zoowie,
    I get to reformat my hard drive. Complete and total system disablement (?)
    If you know of any USB driver for WinNT let us all know. I for one have a
    large financial and personnel commitment to NT and don't have any plans of
    switching to Windows 2000 any time soon.

  • Logitech usb web camera

    hi...
    I have downloaded a file from the labview discussion forum, filename: lv_vfw.zip. This file enable the real-time image capture for web camera, it work fine but when i try to web-enable this program, the image window does not appear in the other pc, what happen?what should i do to allow another party (pc) to have the image?

    Are you using Remote Panels with LabVIEW to "web enable" your image? If so, you should be using NI-IMAQ 2.6. The WindDraw window that comes with the Vision module for LabVIEW doesn't work with Remote Panels; you should be using the new embedded front panel image display instead.
    I'm not sure where exactly you got the driver for the USB camera, but I'm pretty sure it didn't come from NI. You should probably work with whomever provided the driver.
    Good Luck.

  • Web cameras and photo booth

    I just picked up a Creative Live ! Cam video IM Pro.
    The device is UVC complaint. However it will quit occasionally while in photo booth and I will need to unplug/plug from the usb port to get it operating again. This web cam stuff is all new to me. Can I use this device to record into Imovie ? I'm running 10.5.2on a mac pro.
    Thanks

    You're welcome, joe musich
    what can I do with the camera I've got with imovie ?
    Nothing directly with iMovie.
    As shown in this Apple kBase article, you need an external (Firewire) iSight or other "IIDC" webcam for recording directly into iMovie with any external webcam. All IIDC webcams connect via Firewire, so no external USB webcam will work to record directly into iMovie.
    You can work around this limitation by recording video clips with an application that can use USB webcams like QuickTime Pro. Then import the saved clip into iMovie for editing.
    FYI, the built-in iSights in many current Mac models are the only USB webcams that work and allow live monitoring of what is being recorded directly with iMovie. EVERY external USB camera, whether camcorder or webcam, would need to record the video first and import that into iMovie for editing.
    Will I be able to see live action form the camera in imovie ?
    No, not with your external USB cam and iMovie. Using QT Pro or another app that can record directly from your USB webcam, you will be able to monitor the video action in that app.
    Or do I have to import something I capture with the camera ?
    Yes, when using your USB webcam and trying to edit with iMovie. To get video from your (or any) external USB cam into iMovie, you must import a previously saved compatible file.
    Please let us know if you need any other info before you can mark this topic "Answered."

  • How to do Audio/Vedio streaming between web cams and back end servers?

    I want to implement an internet chat  application, I mean, I want a front end, which connects a web cam (mic  and speaker). So, I can send videos and audios to a back end server (do  flash streaming? but I am not sure what good product out there I can  use), and also send both A/V to another computer on the internet. In  other words, need a front end that sends local a/v from webcam  (&mic) to backend and receives remote a/v from backend to webcam  (and speaker) + backend streaming server.
    Any suggestions of techniques to be used? What back end flash streaming  server should I sue? How to acquire A/V from web cam (& mic) and how  to send A/V to web cam (&speaker) to play?
    Thanks a lot!

    Front end development:-  You can use Flash CS4/CS5 or Flex Builder.
    Back-end Programming - Server-side programming is basically done using ActionScript. You can use Flash CS4 , but there is no need for special authoring tool, you can do with even text-editor. After you author, you just need to place files at proper location on FMS.
    Front-end runtime - You just need Flash Player installed , basically active-x or plug-in in your browser - which you would already have by now
    Also if you decide to write AIR application for your front-end, you will need AIR - which is again free
    Hope that answers your questions

  • Digital camera and LabVIEW

    Has anyone ever controlled a canon digital camera from LabVIEW?  I am using a Canon EOS Kiss REBEL 300D.
    I tried using the software from the following link (http://www.hytekautomation.com/Downloads.html)  , but the "take a picture" button was disabled.
    I did download the SDK from canon but am not sure if LabVIEW can handle some of the data types to pass to the DLLs.
    Here is one example of a function
    cdCAPI RCOpenSource ( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource )
    where cdSourceInfo is defined as:
    typedef struct{
    cdSourceType SurceType; // Type of the device
    cdUInt32 rsrvd; // Reserved
    cdStr63 Name; // Device model name
    //(Invalid if cdSRC_TYPE_HOST)
    #ifndef macintosh
    cdStr63 NameInOS; // Device model name in OS
    #endif
    cdPortType PortType; // Port type
    cdPortDescripUnion u; // Union of I/O port descriptor
    } cdSourceInfo;
    Thanks for any help.

    If you use Windows, easiest way to access external code is .NET
    interface. Is there a .NET interface for the Canon camera? If there is,
    use it.
    If there is no .NET interface and you have problems calling the SDK DLL directly,
    It's quite easy to write a .NET interface (wrapper) for C++ code (if
    the SDK is written according to C++ standards and works with Visual Studio .NET). Check MSDN to find out how to write managed extension (.NET wrappers) on existing C++ code. There is a simple example
    of such a wrapper for an existing C++ class. If you have existing C++
    methods, just write a class that has similar methods that upon call
    call these SDK methods.
    After having written the wrapper, build it (having the managed
    extension turned on!) and you can access the class from .NET interface
    of labview directly. If the data types cause problems, you can try to
    transform the data types in the wrapper methods.
    Something like the following may work:
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    // You need a class for your method.
    // If you have many methods, you can add them to the same class
    __gc class CanonClass
    public:
    // constructor
    CanonClass() { }
    // destructor
    ~CanonClass() { }
    // method
    cdCAPI MyMethod( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource )
    return RCOpenSource ( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource );

    i want to do steganography on web cam data, untill now i am able to do the video transmitting using jmf and now i am trying to get the actual video frame data and try to edit that and hide my secrete message. can anyone have any idea how to do this ?? i am a newbie in JMF please help me to get out of this stuff...!!!
    thank you

    http://web.archive.org/web/20080216001605/java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/RotationEffect.html
    For my senior capstone project, we had to hide binary data in a BMP image by encoding the bits into the LSB of the components of the pixel colors. You could do a similar thing with video data.
    The above sample code demonstrates the concept of a custom Effect class... something that modifies a data stream. You can extend it to create two Effect classes, one of which that would write secret data, and one of which that would read the secret data.
    Implementation details of how to get it working are up to you, but you can use the BufferToImage and ImageToBuffer classes to decode and encode the images into buffers.
