Use INDEXCOL only for localization (without LOOKUP)
Hi,
I've to setup data localization in OBIEE 11.
The manuals say to use LOOKUP and INDEXCOL.
Anyhow LOOKUP seems not a mandatory step to me.
Lets say I have to translate a dimension PRODUCTS which at first only have 2 columns: CODE and DESCRIPTION.
I could add translated columns directly to the physical table like this:
CODE
DESC_EN
DESC_IT
DESC_ES

Bike
Bicicletta
Bicicleta
2
Car
Auto
Coche
3
Airplane
Aereo
Avion
Then in the Business Model layer I could add a logical column "DESCRIPTION" like this:
INDEXCOL (VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.LANGUAGE_INDEX), PRODUCTS.DESC_EN, PRODUCTS.DESC_IT, PRODUCTS.DESC_ES).
To me these seems easier (no need for extra lookup tables) and faster (no extra join to get the translations).
Does anybody tried this before?
Any pitfalls?

I'd like to shed a little light on this for you. Some HP printers are able to scan without ink installed, but most do not. If the cartridge lights on the product are blinking and there is an "E" in the copies window, then the printer is in an error state and will not function until cartridges are installed. If the printer is in an error state, that would describe the message you are getting that "An error occured while communicating with the scanning device", as the printer would not respond when prompted by the software. vicckeyGSX, if you're referring to Apple's service by that name, is available only to employees of Apple-authorized service providers or self-servicing accounts. Unless you are employed by such an organization, you cannot access GSX. If you are employed by such an organization, they should set you up and give you the appropriate login information.

I have a pc that is one year old and the hard drive is crashing we use it only for quick books to run our small business I would like to buy a macmini and install the OS from the pc to the apple product i will not use the pc after, can i use the OS off the pc or do I have to purchase another?
I think you can get Windows 7 for around $99. Install the 64bit version as the 32bit version will not be able to use all your new computer's ram if you have more than about 3.5gb.
Back up your quick books data now before the old hard drive dies. You can copy your data over to your new installation of Windows and quick books.

I have no external devices connected to my Mac mini but still everytime I use it after about half hour to an hour in whatever I'm using wether it's the Internet or iPhoto or iTunes the beach ball appears and I cannot get it to stop I always have to press and hold the power button and force it to switch off I then do a safe reboot and it starts up again fine but same thing again after a certain amount of time it will freeze. I have also had on some occasions a bright white screen with a folder and a flashing question mark appear but it's not because of any external devices as they have all been removed please can someone help me as I have no idea why this keeps happening to my computer and I'm worried that there's something seriously wrong it's only about 6 months old and I have no experience in dealing with computers ??

I have an iMac, version 10/68, My iTunes is, reluctantly, up-to-date. I use iTunes to organize my music, with over 100 playlists, all song rated, dated,commented on, and added to as many of the playlists as they ought to be heard in. I have no use for the album covers - I don't even keep them.
Can I re-enter an earlier iTunes version without losing my comments,dates, ratings, etc? I would like to randomize the order in which songs are played wittin their playlists and I don't waant to lose th I would much prefer this to the current tedious sytem today.

PS A bit of Mac history on its birthday. II had one of the first 50 Macs sold in the Washington area and made good use of it the very first time I sat down to try it. It was very expensive, over $4000 and worth every penny. I was running the office of a group of people running for political office as a team. The artist we had hired to design political flyers for each of them did not do her job, and I was able, the first time I ever touched a Mac, to design and print 20-odd flyers, with no trouble at allI I was enchanted, and have never used anything other than a Mac ever since.iTunes will always store the backups to the same drive or partition it is installed on. A couple things that might help:
-If you have multiple backups sitting there you can delete extraneous ones by opening itunes and click on the Edit menu and choosing Preferences. In the window that cames up click the Devices tab and delete the backups you don't need.
-Alternately you can move the backup files to a different location. Use this article to locate the backup files:

-If there is really not enough room on that drive, just uninstall itunes and reinstall it onto the larger drive. Make sure to follow the steps in this article if you uninstall:

We use mini HR in a FI/CO system (no payroll) . We would like use costcenters, witch are only allowed for secundary postings. When we use such costcenters we get an error message:
KI260 Cost center 1000/xyc blocked against direct postings on 01.01.2009.
What can we do ??

Possible to use FB4.5 for PHP without Zend Studio?
I've watched a really helpful tutorial on FB4.5 for PHP by Mihai Corlan and am hoping to use some of his techniques but would like to use a different PHP server because Zend Server costs money and I'd rather avoid polluting my workstation with still more daemon-type services. I've set up numerous Debian and CentOS servers from scratch and would like to configure FB4.5 for PHP so that I can debug both my Actionscript and PHP. Has anyone done this? I could certainly used advice from someone who's gone through all the trouble already. I'd very much like to capitalize on all of the ways that FB4.5 automatically generates code and creates links for you rather than writing all that stuff by hand.
There may be other ways to do this but I built a flex 3/php web site winter 2008 on a Rackspace based server. PHP is the standard configuration of the cloud server offerings and I have NO maintenance with the server. It just runs. I only program the PHP and client side (Flex for pc and AJAX for Mobile). At the time I looked at Zend (cost money as noted), BlaseDS, AMFPHP and straight dumb text transfers. Zend, BlaseDS, AMFPHP are all AMF and at least for me were a little tricky to get configured correctly and maintain during development (I would usually break something and have to debug which is harder for me in AMF). I quickly decided to just use straight text transfers and create my own protocal with concat and decode on both sides. You use RPC with POST settings. It was easy to put in print statements for debugging whatever I was breaking at the time (client commands, comm channel, server command processing, MySQL interaction) and I could always see exactly what was breaking when related to the comm channel.
So for me, Zend and BlaseDS are hard to set up and maintain during development. AMFPHP was easy to set up and sometimes tricky to debug when things went south. RPC POST text transfers are easy to set up and debug data streams. If you look at the cookbook section of adobe flex and search for any of the above, you will get an ap note or 2 discussing how to set up and a simple usage example.
One last point was after I got done with the pc version of my web site, I started to do a browser based mobile solution for a trimmed down version of the web site. It turns out, since I was implementing in AJAX, I could not figure out how to do AMF type transfers and the text based comm channel easy enabled the client side to change from Flex to AJAX but the server side stayed untouched. It greatly reduced my development. The pc version took about 2.5 man years (70+ main views) and the mobile version took on 3 weeks (15 main views)!
All of the above comments assume you are developing a web site that just uses the server as a data wearhouse. The solution may be different if you are mostly a streaming based web site (streaming off your own server).

When abroad it is better to use only WiFi (where available as Roaming is too expensive) but most of the times all calls are again going through local phone companies, despite making "off" for Cellur data, 3G and Roaming on Settings.
