Use of Lightroom 1.1 with Leopard

Hey guys,
I currently run Lightroom 1.1 with Mac OS 10.4.11. I'd like to upgrade to Leopard, but I'm wondering if I'll have problems with Lightroom when I do so.
Has anyone had any experience of this ? or can you give me some useful advice ?
Many thanks for your time,
John.

Lightroom runs fine in Leopard.
BTW: you would be better served by upgrading to Lightroom 1.4.1 (free upgrade from 1.1). Lightroom 2.x (paid upgrade) adds many more features and is capable of running in 64bit mode with Leopard.

Unable to find the Print Dialog Box when using Photoshop Element 6, G4 with OS Leopard(10.5.8) and Canon S9000 printer in order to choose the media type(paper type) to print photos.

Okay, let's try it this way. You've got that dialog box onscreen. Click PRINT (see circle and arrow):
    Then you should see this:
Click that arrow and that window should expand to show you this:
Your actual choices in the last menu may read a little differently but that's the pulldown where you choose.

Do I have to reinstall Boot Camp & XP? Or can I just boot it and use it with Parallels / VMWare as I did with the Tiger version?

Does Lightroom 5 include access to Lightroom mobile?
Lightroom mobile is included as part of the following Creative Cloud membership plans:
    Photoshop Photography Program
    Creative Cloud complete plan
Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition
Creative Cloud for teams complete plan
If you have access to Lightroom 5 via your Creative Cloud membership, then you have access to Lightroom mobile.

You need to purchase Leopard if you don't have the DVD and reinstall OS X:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • How do I use CS5, Lightroom 5 & PSE11 with Windows 8?

I am about to purchase a new Windows 8 64 bit computer. I own copies of PhotoShop CS5 and PSE10 (also PSE11, not used yet) and want to buy and run Lightroom 5 once I have the new computer. Your website says CS5 is not Windows 8 compatible What are my options?

If you check the Moicrosoft site for Windows 8 you can see that Photoshop CS5 has been found to be compatible with Windows 8:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/Home
You should search this forum using "Photoshop CS5 Windows 8" as search terms to see if there are any issues that have been addressed to help make installation easier.  In one case it was recommended to install in compatibility mode.

  • Can I use Classic on a G4 with Leopard?

I have a bunch of old mid-90s games that I desperately would like to play on my newer G4 with 10.5.  It's my understanding from my searching that Macs ceased compatibility upon hitting Leopard, but I think people are using "Leopard" as a catch-all to describe not just 10.5, but G5 Intels too.
Apparently Tiger (G4 PowerPC) was compatible with Classic Environment, and that's what I have, I just use Leopard on it.
Semantics aside, I have an old G3 with 10.3 on it that lets me use Classic Environment to run OS 9 so I can play those old games and use Starcraft's StarEdit.  Thing is, it's a piece of crap next to my G4.
I do not have ANY of the Mac Installation discs for Classic (or any OS for that matter, so I can't use any of the emulators like SheepShaver and what-not), but is there some way to transfer OS 9 and Classic Environment from my G3 to G4 so I can play this stuff?
Is it even possible that they'd play with these things?

    Hi, MasterDogma -
Just adding some info in correction -
I know Leopard doesn't come with Classic, and I know the difference between operating systems and computers, that's my whole point.
Not sure that's correct. When you said -
Apparently Tiger (G4 PowerPC) was compatible with Classic Environment, and that's what I have, I just use Leopard on it.
    and
...but I think people are using "Leopard" as a catch-all to describe not just 10.5, but G5 Intels too.
    it indcates you may not.
The terms "Tiger" and "Leopard" do not describe nor refer to any hardware or computer model. They are explicitly the names for different releases of the family of operating systems known as OS X: Jaguar = OS X 10.2; Panther = OS X 10.3; Tiger = OS X 10.4; Leopard = OS X 10.5; and Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.
Just as important, there is no such thing as a G5 Intel machine. All Power Mac models, of which the G5 is one, use the PowerPC processor. When the Intel processor machines were released, the "G" designation ceased applying. For example, the Intel successor to the G5 desktop is called a Mac Pro; the Intel succssor to the PowerBook is the MacBook Pro.
It does get a little fuzzy with the iMacs, since the iMac designation was retained for the Intel machines - hence the common usage of references like i3 and i5 to differentiate the Intel machines from the earlier G5, G4, and G3 models all of which use the PowerPC series of processors.

  • Upgrade HDD using Time Machine, but no Snow Leopard DVD, only Leopard installation DVD = kernel error on startup

    Hi guys and girls.
    Background
I have a MacBook Pro (March 2009 vintage).  It was loaded with OS X Leopard on a 250GB HDD.  When Snow Leopard was released, I upgraded using a DVD bought from Apple.  In time, I added an external USB HDD to use for Time Machine Backups.  I am now, however, knocking up against the capacity limit of the original hard drive.
Given the above, plus the fact that I no longer appear to have the Snow Leopard DVD (upgrade version I believe) - what is the recommended way to get back to my old setup (files, OS, settings etc), but with my new, larger HDD?
    So far I have tried:
    1. Formatting new HDD as Mac OS Extended (journaled), GUID partition having booted using my original (Leopard) installation DVD.  I then selected the latest Time Machine (Snow Leopard) backup.  After a couple of hours of restoring from that backup, the system restarted, but had kernel errors on bootup.
    2. As above, but when formatting, chose to zero all data.  This had the same end result.
    Questions:
    1. Are the kernel errors I'm experiencing due to the mismatch of booting off Leopard and restoring a Snow Leopard backup?
    2. Would finding my (or even a) Snow Leopard upgrade DVD help?  If so, how?
    3. What am I doing wrong generally?  I do like to try to understand these things!
    4. As above, what is the recommended way of doing what I'm trying to do, given the limitations of release DVDs etc.
    Many thanks

Simplest thing would be to buy the retail SL installation disc ($20 USD) and use it to do the migration. There might be an issue trying to use a SL TM version with Leopard.

  • Can I use migration assistant from a mac with leopard to a mac with tiger?

My old mac was upgraded to leopard, (don't ask me why), and I just got a new mac with tiger, although I ordered leopard up to date. Can I use migration assistant to move stuff from the old mac with leopard to the new mac with tiger, or do I have to wait until I get the copy of leopard? Plus, if I move files over now- like through email and/or network connection, and then when I get leopard and archive and install, what happens to my files?

That is correct. You'll need either an ethernet cable or a firwire cable and a firewire to thunderbolt adapter to connect the two macs together. Here's info on Migration/Setup assistant

  • Can I boot up a Tiger Disk IMage HDD using my Macbook Pro (with Leopard)

Before my Ibook G4 crashed (tiger 10.4) I made a disk image using super duper. I purchased a Macbook Pro (leopard) and when I tried booting the disk Image I had made using superduper on a smart disk firewire drive, it would not recognize it.
I held the option key when booting but only the Mac drive on the Macbook pro showed up. Is that a bug/flaw with leopard that you can't even boot an external HD disk image made using Tiger?
I know the disk image is good because it boots on my G5 which has tiger installed.
    Thanks for a reply..

    Allan Eckert and BCC99,
Thanks for the responses. I REALLY appreciate it becuase I usually spend a lot of time spinning my wheels trying to make something work that doesn't.
The reason I wanted to boot it was that my old IBOOK crashed and I wanted to boot up the old "clone" (not disk image - my poor choice of words) so that I could view some of my older emails that contained information that I wanted to view. I know I could do it on my G5 but I wasn't home and wanted to try my new Macbook.....
    Thanks again...

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • Lightroom 5.2 freezes when using the spot edit tool with Wacom Intuos 5

    Hi,
I've been using Photoshop 6.x with my Intuos 5 for almost a year and it's been great.  I recently purchased Lightroom 5.2 only to discover that when I use the spot edit tool that it freezes when i use this tool as a brush.  It starts off smooth, but after brushing across my area i want to clone/heal, Lightroom seems to freeze up, and the spot edit tool is unusable.  I can lift my pen off the tablet and a few seconds later Lightroom comes back, but the tablet is basically unusable to me.  The mouse works perfectly fine.
I've read other posts at the end of last year '12, that walks through some regedits and disabling some other tablet functions, but none of those work for me.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks Ed

I solved my own issue.  I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.
    Step 1:
    Walcom Tablet Properties
    Step 2:
Click on Customize and change the default line graph from this:
    Step 3:
    To this
    Step 4:
    Click OK.
After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.
Prior to doing this, I also did the procedure listed here:  http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8036
So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop.  I hope this can help others.

  • Can I use Logic 9 on a G5 with Leopard

Is anyone using Logic 9 on a G5 Quad-core with Leopard? I have been told by tech support that it won't work, but I have heard from other people that it will. Before I buy it, I would just like to make sure it will run. Any feedback would be helpful.

There are several people on this forum who are currently running Snow Leopard on their G5. If Apple says you can't do it, that just means they haven't put the time and resources into testing it. I just talked to Logic technical support and he told me that Logic 9.0 will not run on my G5. Yet, you say it will. So forgive me for questioning the validity of your statement. I was just wondering if anyone out there is actually using it.

  • Can I use InDesign CS with Leopard?

Is anyone successfully using InDesign CS with Leopard?

    Hi Tim
I came across the very useful blog recently:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignchannel/2007/11/indesignleopard_updateiii.html
by Tim Cole which may help to explain the problem you (like me!) are having. If you can't be bothered to read it all then the gist is that this is an Apple problem which they know about and are trying to fix (no date for release as yet). It relates specifically to IDCS3 and Leopard, in particular the linking of files that is unique to ID as opposed to the other Adobe programs (other CS3 programs are unaffected I think). For me the only workable solution has been to trash the ID preferences file which can be a nuisance (as you have reset prefs afterwards) but it has enabled me to continue using IDCS3. The problem appears to affect those using PowerPC more than Intel machines. For those having problems with CS and CS2 you should be aware that Adobe have no plans to make these versions compatible with Leopard; not now, not ever! Check the Adobe site for a list of compatible software (yes, IDCS3 is listed but as mentioned this is not an Adobe problem). Why Apple have not made an announcement about this is quite beyond me.
    Hope this is useful.
