Use of NTP pool in NTP configuration
I had the following queries with respect to the use of NTP pool in the NTP configuration on RHEL:
1) I see the following public servers from the pool.ntp.org project in the default /etc/ntp.conf file.
server 0.rhel.pool.ntp.org
server 1.rhel.pool.ntp.org
Would using these servers be fine or are there servers specific to India as we are located in India?
2) Time to be taken from the public servers above may not be ideal, I was wondering how much could the difference in time be say over a 1 month period?
I hope, my question is clear.
Please revert with the reply to my query.
Regards

Use the <n>.in.pool.org servers because they are much closer to you.

How long is a piece of string? Your question is unanswerable. Syncing with external clock references is fine because you can use as many reference clocks as it takes you to feel comfortable; I'd suggest 4 or 5, and also turn on the local software reference clock.

Hi,
I've got NTP configured according to wiki.
My /etc/ntp.conf:
# With the default settings below, ntpd will only synchronize your clock.
# For details, see:

# Associate to public NTP pool servers; see http://www.pool.ntp.org/
server 0.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 1.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 2.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 3.europe.pool.ntp.org
# Only allow read-only access from localhost
restrict default noquery nopeer
restrict 127.0.0.1
restrict ::1
# Location of drift and log files
driftfile /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift
logfile /var/log/ntp.log
# NOTE: If you run dhcpcd and have lines like 'restrict' and 'fudge' appearing

It apparently works:

I can't convince KDE Configure Date and Time Settings to take the setting, though. Before I started the NTP service the Set date and time automatically checkbox used to be grayed out, which makes sense. It recognizes my time zone (Europe/Moscow (MMT)), but I can't apply the settings:
Unable to connect to time server: europe.pool.ntp.org
Where is the catch? KDE taskbar clock keeps on showing, say, 07:36 AM UTC; even the Adjust Date and Time... dialog itself shows the right time!
Last edited by Llama (2012-10-25 07:58:43)Which version of KDE are you running? I have got ntpd up and running und I do not have any problems with kde time settings. In fact, iirc, I had to fire up ntpd to make it work (but I'm not sure, has been some time). Greying out can also mean that there some rights issues... have you tried running systemsettings with sudo?
Oh btw: if time and date shows the correct time, but clock doesn't, it's often because the clock isn't updated instantaneously. Wait a bit or remove and add the clock again -
Can i use same address pool for different remote access VPN tunnel groups and policy
Hi all,
i want to create a different remote access VPN profile in ASA. ihave one RA vpn already configured for some purpose.
can i use the same ip address pool used for the existing one for the new tunnel-group (to avoid add rotuing on internal devices for new pool) and its a temporary requirement)
thanks in advance
ShnailThanks Karsten..
but still i can have filtering right? iam planning to create a new group policy and tunnelgroup and use the existing pool for new RA and i have to do some filetring also. for the new RA i have to restrict access to a particualr server ,my existing RA have full access.
so iam planning to create new local usernames for the new RA and new group policy with vpn-filter value access-list to apply for that user as below, this will achive waht i need right??

MS Project Very Slow and Project Files Large when Using Shared Resource Pool
Hello,
We are using MS Project 2010 Professional in our organization and using a shared resource pool so we can easily identify resource conflicts. When we started this process many months ago the resource pool worked great. Now that we have nearly
all of our projects (~40) using the resource pool, it has become essentially unusable. Each project file that is sharing the resource pool is 12 MB or greater in file size, and most of the project files contain less than 100 lines. Saving any file
takes ~4 minutes. As a result, many of the resource managers and project managers are starting to avoid using MS Project which is undermining our original intent.
Any thoughts on what we could try to regain the usability, make the file sizes smaller, improve save times, etc.? Will MS Project Server fix all of these issues?
Thanks,
JoshIf any of your PMs renamed, moved or over-wrote their project file whilst linked to the Resource Pool or a master, then the file may well have corrupted itself or the pool or both. With 40 files, you can guarantee one or more PMs will do one of the above,
so file corruption is a when, not if (2days or 2 years or more).
For 40 projects Project Server or any solution that copies data to a database so the resource data can be consolidated is needed. Project Server is not a simple application, it's a full server and requires proper training and processes to add value. And
it needs configuring by someone who knows what they're doing!
In the mean time try unattaching all project files from the pool, then create a new blank pool and re-attach.You will also need to File, Save as to repair each project file if needed. For bad corruption save as to a .xml format then re-import to a blank
project.
Or, create a new master each time by inserting all projects into a new blank project, but deselecting the Link option. All tasks are then copied and the resource data consolidated. Record a macro to make creating this very quick and easy (provided your network
isn't too slow).

Hi,
I am Shanmugavel, SharePoint developer,
I am facing the below SharePoint 2013 deployment issue while deploying using VS2012.
If i will deploy the same wsp or existing wsp
(last build) using direct powershell deployment, the solution adding properly, but the same timeout exception coming while activation the features. Please find the below error.
I tried the below activists:
1. Restarted my dev server, DB server.
2. tried the same solution id different server
3. tried existing wsp file (last build version)
4. Deactivated all the features, including project Active deployment configuration.... but still i am facing the same issue.
I hope this is not coding level issue, because still my code is not start running, before that some problem coming.
Please help me any one..... Last two days i am struck because of this...What you need to understand is the installation of a WSP does not do much. It just makes sure that you relevant solution files are deployed to the SharePoint farm.
Next comes the point when you activate the features. It is when the code which you have written to "Activate" certain features for your custom solution.
Regarding the error you are getting, it typically means that you have more connections (default is I guess 100) open for a SQL database then you are allowed to.
If you have a custom database and you are opening a connection, make sure you close it as well.
Look at the similar discussion here:
The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool
size was reached[^]
I would suggest further to look at the
ULS logs[^] to get better insight.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction with this? Configuring the Datasources through the Admin Console creates a single Datasource configuration file that contains its relevent connection pool configuration, but the Weblogic Upgrade wizard creates a Datasource config file and a separate connection pool config file. What would I need to do to use the config files generated by the Weblogic Upgrade wizard?
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Simplified JDBC Resource Configuration
In WebLogic Server 9.0, the number of JDBC resource types was reduced to simplify JDBC configuration and to reduce the likelihood
of configuration errors. Instead of configuring a JDBC connection pool and then configuring a data source or tx data source to
point to the connection pool and bind to the JNDI tree, you configure a data source that encompasses a connection pool.
Note: Because of the new configuration design, you can no longer have multiple data sources that point to a single connection
pool. Instead, you can create additional data sources, each with its own pool of connections, or you can bind a single data source
to the JNDI tree with multiple names. See Binding a Data Source to the JNDI Tree with Multiple Names for more information.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction with this? Configuring the Datasources
through the Admin Console creates a single Datasource configuration file that contains its relevent
connection pool configuration, but the Weblogic Upgrade wizard creates a Datasource config file and
a separate connection pool config file. What would I need to do to use the config files generated
by the Weblogic Upgrade wizard?
Any help appreciated
Thanks

How to use JDBC Connection Pools in a standalone application?
Hi, there,
I have a question about how to use JDBC Connection Pools in an application. I know well about connection pool itself, but I am not quite sure how to keep the pool management object alive all the time to avoid being destroyed by garbage collection.
for example, at the website: http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626291, there is a simple connection pool implementation. there are three classes:JDBCConnection, the application's gateway to the database; JDBCConnectionImpl, the real class/object to provide connection; and JDBCPool, the management class to manage connection pool composed by JDBCConnectionImpl. JDBCPool is designed by Singleton pattern to make sure only one instance. supposing there is only one client to use connection for many times, I guess it's ok because this client first needs instantiate JDBCPool and JDBCConnectionImpl and then will hold the reference to JDBCPool all the time. but how about many clients want to use this JDBCPool? supposing client1 finishes using JDBCPool and quits, then JDBCPool will be destroyed by garbage collection since there is no reference to it, also all the connections of JDBCConnectionImpl in this pool will be destroyed too. that means the next client needs recreate pool and connections! so my question is that if there is a way to keep pool management instance alive all the time to provide connection to any client at any time. I guess maybe I can set the pool management class as daemon thread to solve this problem, but I am not quite sure. besides, there is some other problems about daemon thread, for example, how to make sure there is only one daemon instance? how to quit it gracefully? because once the whole application quits, the daemon thread also quits by force. in that case, all the connections in the pool won't get chance to close.
I know there is another solution by JNDI if we develop servlet application. Tomcat provides an easy way to setup JNDI database pooling source that is available to JSP and Servlet. but how about a standalone application? I mean there is no JNDI service provider. it seems a good solution to combine Commons DBCP with JNID or Apache's Naming (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/index.html). but still, I don't know how to keep pool management instance alive all the time. once we create a JNDI enviroment or naming, if it will save in the memory automatically all the time? or we must implement it as a daemon thread?
any hint will be great apprieciated!
SamTo my knoledge the pool management instance stays alive as long as the pool is alive. What you have to figure out is how to keep a reference to it if you need to later access it.

How to use one module pool program in another module pool programming?
Hi
I have one moodule pool program.
In one of my screen i want to use some code which already developed in another module pool program.
Is there any direct way for using one module pool programcode in another module pool program.
If there any approaches for this plz help me in this issue.Dear,
If you want to use the code.
first you can write your code in a subroutine in module pool program 1
and then you can use it from module pool program 2 by
perform subroutine_name(program_name)
using P_1
changing C_1
if you wan to use one module pool data into other module pool.
so that is another requirement. -
What's the difference between using a connection pool and a datasource
Howdy. I figure this is a newbie question, but I can't seem to find an
answer.
In the docs at bea, the datasource docs say
"DataSource objects provide a way for JDBC clients to obtain a DBMS
connection. A DataSource is an interface between the client program and the
connection pool. Each data source requires a separate DataSource object,
which may be implemented as a DataSource class that supports either
connection pooling or distributed transactions."
In there it says the datasource uses the connection pool, but other than
that, what is the difference between a connection pool and a datasource? Thanks for the info. I think it makes some sense. But it's a bit greek.
I'm sure it'll make more sense the more I work with it. Thanks.

Peter,
Here is a more formal definition of a DataSource from the Sun site
"A factory for connections to the physical data source that thisDataSource object
represents. An alternative to the DriverManager facility, a DataSourceobject
is the preferred means of getting a connection. An object that implementsthe
DataSource interface will typically be registered with a naming servicebased
on the JavaTM Naming and Directory (JNDI) API.
The DataSource interface is implemented by a driver vendor. There arethree types
of implementations:
Basic implementation -- produces a standard Connection object
Connection pooling implementation -- produces a Connection object thatwill automatically
participate in connection pooling. This implementation works with amiddle-tier
connection pooling manager.
Distributed transaction implementation -- produces a Connection objectthat may
be used for distributed transactions and almost always participates inconnection
pooling. This implementation works with a middle-tier transaction managerand
almost always with a connection pooling manager.
Does that help clarify the distinction?

How to make use of AM Pool Monitor
Hi,
I get Java.lang.OutOfMemory when i run my OA application depoyed in the server.
(It works fine for 5 to 6 rounds of testing.next time when i access the page I get the error)
Oracle FAQ answer suggests to make use of AM pool Monitor.
What is this AM Pool Monitor.
How can I use it?
Thanks,
Gowtam.Enabling AM Pool allows re-use of AM objects thus saving creation of new AMs and consuming less JVM memory.
To enable AM pooling you need to set the profile FND: Application Module Pool Enabled value to "Yes". -
Create web application in powershell using existing app pool
Hi all,
I am trying to create a web application with this script:
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Create-SharePoint-2013-1d7c3337
The problem is that I want to use an existing app pool, but when I do I get this error:
Aborting: Application Pool SharePoint - Applications already exists on the server and is not a SharePoint Application Pool
Obviously this is wrong, since I use this app pool for most of my web apps.
So how does one go about creating a web app in powershell with an already existing app pool?

What is the use of Streams Pool in oracle Architechture?
Dear All,
I am new to oracle, Could you please explain me what is the use of streams pool in oracle Architechture?
My Understanding :- ( As far as i know it is an optional memory buffer, used in distributed environment like multiple servers hosting a database, like RAC or GRID ) Please correct me if i am wrong.
Is the Streams pool a new feature in 10g or is it since earlier versions?
What is the importance of its in performance tunning?
Thank you,

How do I find out what is using a connection pool
This morning weblogic 8.1.5 complained it couldn't expand a connection pool because it had reached is max concurrent connects limit.
The issue I have is that I don't actually know what is using the connection pool. It should be defunct and redundent but obviously not.
This caused all the threads to be consumed and the managed server hung.
Does anyone know wether it's possible to interigate the pool to find out what it's doing ? I can't check the db as it's managed by another company and I have a v limited read only account.... I can't even select from v&session.
Cheers in advance for any help.Dave Snaith wrote:

What is exactly use of module pool
hi guru.
please tell me in real time exactly what is the use of module pool programs.
thanks.
subhasis.Module pools are directly created using the ABAP Editor and are introduced with the PROGRAM statement. With the exception of reporting event blocks and function modules, module pools can contain all processing blocks supported in ABAP and as many local classes as required. While they are executed, all events of the ABAP runtime environment may be triggered.
The most important technical attribute of a module pool is that it can only be controlled using screen flow logic. You must start them using a transaction code, which is linked to the program and one of its screens (initial screen). Another feature of these programs is that you must define your own screens in the Screen Painter (although the initial screen can be a selection screen).
When you start a program using a transaction code, the runtime environment starts a processor that calls the initial screen. This then calls a dialog module in the corresponding ABAP program. The remainder of the program flow can take any form. For example, the dialog module can:
· return control to the screen, after which the processing passes to a subsequent screen. Each screen has a following screen, set either statically or dynamically. Screens and their subsequent screens are components of freely definable screen sequences.
· call other screen sequences, selection screens or lists, from which further processing blocks in the ABAP program are started.
· call other processing blocks itself, either internally or externally.
· call other application programs using CALL TRANSACTION or SUBMIT.
It is appropriate to use module pools when you write dialog-oriented programs using a large number of screens whose flow logic largely determines the program flow of screen sequences. -
