Use of sequencing in query

help.
I have two tables
student table
with fields
-studentid
-fname
-lname
-address
payment table
with fields
-studentid
-date
-payment
examples of data
student table
101,jane,smith,112 pine street
102,john,james,113 johnson street
payment table
101,5-3-2006,50
102,5-4-2006,30
102,5-7-2006,50
101,5-15-2006,20
101,5-20-2006,70
102,5-22-2006,200
I want to be able to display the ouput so that for every payment the student makes a sequence number is incremented by 1.
My output should be as so below.
101, jane smith, 1, 5-3-2006, 50
101, jane smith, 2, 5-15-2006, 20
101, jane smith, 3, 5-20-2006, 70
102, john james, 1, 5-4-2006, 30
102, john james, 2, 5-7-2006, 50
102, john james, 3, 5-22-2006, 200

Not tested, but should get you close:
select stu.studentid,
       stu.fname || ' ' || stu.lname,
       row_number() over (partition by pmt.studentid order by payment),
       pmt.date,
       pmt.payment
  from student stu,
       payment pmt
where stu.studentid = pmt.studentidas I warned, this is not tested (I'm too lazy to create the tables), but it should give you a start
