Use of Single UIX form to Create/Update

I have created a Struts flow to do the following:
browseForm - Browse records in View1.
browseForm has two buttons. One to create a record and one to update a record.
DataAction1 - Execute the Create method on View2 and, on success, transfer control to detailForm for Create.
DataAction2 - Set the current record on View2 to the one selected in the browseForm and, on success, transfer control to the detailForm for update.
The create part works.
The update button is tied to an event that routes control to a struts DataAction that does a setCurrentRowWithKeyValue on the same view object (UIModel) used for create and sets the value using param.rowKeyStr. (I have also tried setCurrentRowWithKey) When the Form shows it is pointing at the first record indicating that the current record was never set.
What am I doing wrong?

Remember, I'm using the standard UIX search page which has a radio button on each line and the 'Select and ...' do something pattern.
In the end I added another line to the 'select' generated code to keep the second (edit) UI model in sync with the search UI model:
