User Account List
User Account List
Is there a way to extract all user accounts from Request Center? Ideally into a spreadsheet that includes their names and user id's as well as whether they are active or inactive. We have a "no longer with the company process" and we need to make sure when someone leaves we make their account inactive. If I can pull a list of accounts they can be compared against a monthly list of users that are no longer with the company.
We are using RequestCenter 2007.1.2
We're on 2006.0.6, but as long as the DIR tables haven't changed much, this SQL should extract what you're looking for:
select p.FirstName, p.LastName, n.LoginName, p.IsInactive
from DirPerson p,
DirContactInfo c,
DirNetworkInfo n
where p.Personid = n.PersonId
and c.Personid = n.PersonId
and c.ContactTypeId = 1
order by lastname, firstname

How can I export user account list in Oracle EM 10g
Hi all, I don't know whether i post here is correct.
I started working with Oracle 2 weeks ago.
I have 4 server; PORTAL, SSO, OID and Database
I had a request that he need all users in portal in text file (.txt, .doc, v.v...). Anyone could you please show me how I can export this list.
I just feel like an year old :(
Thanks for your help,If you use third party tools like Toad, you can easily save the list to file in CSV, XLS, HTML etc format.
If in SQLPlus, Spool the result to a txt file using spool filename. Run the query. Then spool off. Pickup the filename and clean it up where necessary -
Cannot create or rename a user account in Windows 7 HP x64
Hi. I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with one single account with Administrator rights (it's been set up in the computer shop).
It turned out that I cannot create a new user account with it. I try to create one from Control Panel / User accounts menu / Manage other user account. It asks me to enter a name of the account and its kind, after it is done and Create button is pressed
it returns to the User accounts list, which stays blanc (no account created). No error messages or warnings.
I cannot even just change the name of my exsisting account, it looks almost the same: it asks for a new name and when the the name is typed in and Rename button is pressed it returns to the previuos screen where I can see that the name remains unrenamed.
The only thing I can do with my account is to change its image for Logon screen. :)
Please help me to fix this issue.Hi.... I have the same problem with my laptop and my netbook. Same OS in my laptop and Win7 Starter in my netbook.
The only way I found to address this issue was as following:
- Start your computer in 'Safe Mode'
- Logon as 'Administrator' (preferred, but also works with all local users)
- Go to control panel and 'User Accounts'
- Create the new user with administrator rights
- Then close Admin session
- Logon as the new user
- Once logged on, and desktop and icons shows up for you, is done.
- Then, close new user session or restart your computer normally
This started to happen to me after a Windows 7 update for 'Service Pack 1'.
It seems to be an error in this update because the normal process to create a new user only creates the name in the list but no folders and other files necessary to start sessions. The profile is not fully created by the normal process. Then you need to
start the process in SAFE MODE, because it only loads the very basic functions for the OS, no drivers, no services, no antivirus....
Hope this can help...!
Thanks.

Duplicate users in accounts list
I've just migrated my account and all it's data to a new machine using Apples Migration Assistant and everythings working fine, however, I have multiple instances of my account in the Accounts preference pane (22 duplicates).
In the Login window I just see the one account, but on the preference pane, in 'get info' on files, and in 'swith users' on Butler, I see multiple instances of the same account. I cannot delete them in the Accounts pane as the '-' button is greyed out.
It's not causing me problems, but it is annoying to see 20+ accounts in lists, because I'm not sure which one is the real me (cue Twilight Zone music).
Any suggestions?Open the Terminal and NetInfo Manager applications in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following from the Terminal:
id -u
This command will give you a number. In the NetInfo Manager, click the padlock, type in your administrator password, and delete all the user accounts which are listed under your name and where the account's numeric UID doesn't match the output of the Terminal command. Don't delete an account if its name isn't the same as your account's name, and don't delete the only account with a numeric UID matching the output of the command; if multiple accounts have that UID, delete all but one of them.

Hi all,
This problem just happened these last 2 days, and I believe it started after the itunes 11.2 and camera raw 11.2 update on 16 May 2014.
The "guest user" login keeps appearing in the Login screen, i've checked the status of it in my 'System Preference / User & Groups' in 2 Admin accounts, both lists it as 'off'.
I've tried enabling it, restarting, disabling it and restarting my macbook pro, but the guest user account just stays on the login screen.
Could someone please help me out on this? thank you for your kind advice and help!Hi Esquared,
Nope, Find My Mac is not activated under my iCloud settings. Checked both Admin accounts, both are unchecked.
I did see this article before, but some of the steps, specifically the one in System Preferences / Security & Privcy / General is not applicable for OS Mavericks.
Thank you for the tip, but sadly the guest user account somehow is still active. -
Login password not accepted/user accounts not listed
I woke my laptop from sleep today and it didnt accept my password. I tried several times and it just wouldnt work anymore.
I restarted the computer and my account wasnt even in the list as an option to login to. So I logged into root and I was able to see all my folders and files intact under my user folder.
I thought I should just reinstall the system software, so after doing that, NO USERS were available to login to. I had to reset my root password by starting up via the Tiger installation disc.
Now I am able to see all my folders again, but I just cant login! I opened the Accounts preference pane and the only account listed is root. I am afraid to add my old account, as it may re-write over the existing one.
Can soneone PLEASE explain what the **** happened? And how can I fix such a mess? This is seriously screwed up here.I'm seeing a lot of posts like this one - it seems "Tiger" is much more prone to corruption of the "NetInfo" database (where entries for user accounts among other things are stored) than "Panther" ever was, although I can't imagine why that would be...
You didn't mention what type of reinstallation you performed but if the option to preserve user and network settings was selected, then it is likely that the "NetInfo" database is still corrupt (if that was the original problem). If that is the case, then recreating the account might not be the best idea at this time. Under normal circumstances however, when recreating an account with the same shortname as a previously deleted account for which a user folder still exists, the user will be presented with the option to use the existing folder so there should be no data loss. However, it is generally considered prudent to back up data if its loss is a concern.
The output of this command, entered using "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" might be informative if there is something grossly wrong with the user records in the "NetInfo" database:<pre>nidump passwd /</pre>Note that the output consists of user records (one per line), each consisting of several colon (:) delimited fields. If the second field for any user consists of anything other than "*" or "******", don't post those seemingly random characters because they could potentially be used to determine the password for that account - just substitute "x"s or something instead. I mention this because a 1.25 GHz PowerBook (as listed in your profile) may have shipped with Jaguar, which used the older, less secure method for storing passwords which might still be in use by some accounts if the computer was upgraded.
Otherwise, you may want to skip all that and just go ahead and reset the "NetInfo" database to defaults (wiping out user records, etc. but not user data), though it will be 10.4 defaults, not 10.2 defaults... -
PowerBook G4 boots to unfamiliar login. List of known user accounts does not appear and original admin user name and password is rejected. What is going on here?
There are no children, nor other suspicious characters that have "played" with my computer. One moment I'm in, the next time I turn on/restart the powerbook I'm at a screen with the name of the hard drive and two fields: username and password. Not a list with pictures and names ie 'Katie Jo' with an orange icon and 'Guest' with a silhouette of a head.
In an attempt to remedy this problem, I backed up files using target disk mode and firewire cable. I then, rebooted in single user mode, typed in the correct script and essentially made the computer appear virgin again. Original start up welcome screen display with multiple languages, and then set up prompts such as language, network, and registration. After completing the cues and the "just a few more questions" page, I press continue and am left at a grey standstill, with the continue button greyed out, and no other actions. I'm only able to "go back" by clicking the go back button, all the way to the beginning of the set up, and as I proceed through the steps a second time, I'm greeted with the same halt. What is this? -
Second User ID listed for My Email Account
I had forgotten my Skype ID so i went through the procedure of getting my user ID on the website. when i got the email and followed the link i was surprised to see two User IDs listed. one was familiar and the other i never saw before. when i looked through my account info i could not find anywhere where the second account was listed. how can there be a second user id for my email address and where can i go to delete the invalid user ID.
You need to configure Mail preferences correctly.

Unable to log in to the user account [username] at this time
My Powerbook G4 is running Mac OS X 10.4.11
Processor: 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4
Memory: 768 MB DDR SDRAM
Startup Disk Macintosh HD
Serial # 4H511OAJRJ5
Capacity 74.4 GB
Available: 2.3 GB
My problems began when I had a warning message that read something like, “your startup disk is getting full. Delete some files”
Around the same time my battery was showing signs of being spent (wouldn’t take a full charge) and would shutdown my powerbook in the middle of operation. I replaced the battery within 12 hours, rebooted, and everything seemed normal; I could log in and access all programs, files, photos, music, etc. The error message reappeared to deletes some files. I ran TechTool Deluxes and it suggested repairing my Volume Directory. There were a few suggestions in green and one in red. I accepted the ones in green and made the changes. It reopened TechTool and ran again, this time everything showed up as a “red” (drastic) directory change. I did not accept. I shut down. I rebooted, and that is when my heart sank.
My account log in screen appeared (I have my master account and a “test” account available) and I entered my log in password. After several moments, the message “You are unable to log in to the user account [username] at this time.” I can log in to my “test” account but I have not been able to access any of my files from that account. Also, my Test account appears to be running Panther instead of Tiger; could that be? Anyway, I read some similar problem posts here and was hopeful that DiskWarrior could help restore me. I purchased and ran it successfully (at least DiskWarrior said it was a success) but I still have the same results.
I tried to access both my caches folder and my Desktop folder from my “test” account, but these are the error messages I received:
The folder “Caches” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
The folder “Desktop” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
I was shocked to see my Available space was only 2.5 GB. I don’t know how that can be right.
I’m open to anything to retrieve my files – Any suggestions?Around the same time my battery was showing signs of being spent (wouldn’t take a full charge) and would shutdown my powerbook in the middle of operation. You need to delete some file not try to repair the disk volume. but anyway...

You need to develop a full backup plan. Get an external hd and backup to it.

Would you be using filevault? Which would mean you need more space.

Doubtful. What does apple > about this mac say?

I buy an external disk with both fireware & usb and use carbon copy cloner to duplicate you hd.
run batcmd from an admin account to let you change permissions.
From an administrator account enable root & be careful. This will let you look at any file on the system & delete everything!!!
Get a new admin id.
"BatChmod is a Cocoa utility for manipulating file and folder privileges in Mac OS X. It allows the manipulation of ownership as well as the privileges associated to the Owner, Group or others."
http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/Welcome.html
As an aside, I just noticed that the button to "apply to all enclosed items' is greyed out. I started checking other folders and best I can tell, all folders on my startup volume will not allow me to apply any permission changes to all enclosed items. Think this might have something to do with the alias issue?
I noticed that my "apply to all enclosed items' button is greyed out too. I use BatChmod fps instead.
Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
# Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /var/db
pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.
mv -i .applesetupdone .applesetupdone.old
reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!
Limnos adds detailed explainations:

"Unable to log in to the user account"
I'm having a problem I'm hoping one of you may have come up against and
solved. We have two Mac OSX.4 servers - one a login server, the other
contains the student Homes folders. Now when a student who has an account
from last year logs in, a message says "You are unable to log in to the user
account "username" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an
error occurred. The home folder for the user account is located on an AFP or
SMB server. Contact your system administrator for help."
It seems there is a problem with the hand off from the login server to the
data server. I can connect to the data server through Connect to Server
while logged on as admin, so the server is accessible on line. I double-checked the Sharing info of the shared points and they are set correctly. Also, when I run Server Monitor, the stats summary for both servers says "waiting for response."
Any ideas? Thanks!Mike
Server Monitor is an application that monitors XServe hardware providing feedback for the administrator. It has nothing to do with the Server Operating System. If your trying to use it on anything other than an XServe all you'll see is "Waiting for Response" all day long.
If your hardware is an XServe then you need to use either localhost or the server's loopback address (127.0.0.1) in the name field followed by the default admin's account's password.
+"The home folder for the user account is located on an AFP or+
+SMB server. Contact your system administrator for help"+
This error is usually down to (but not always) a DNS/DHCP issue or some other obscure network related issue affecting DNS. What does the logs say server and client side when the log-in fails?
Its possible the affected user no longer exists as a principal? Does the same thing happen to this user regardless of which client computer is used? You could search the schema using dscl from a client to see if the affected user is listed in the LDAP database? Alternatively you could issue:
sudo kadmin.local -q list_principals
On the server itself. If the affected user is not listed but exists in WGM then review the password type. It's possible its been set to Crypt? You could delete the user and re-create the account again and re-locating the home folder and trying again. It's also possible the student's home folder has developed a problem? Does the 'jiggle' and error occur immediately or after a slight delay? Do you have a strict Password Policy in place? Sometimes problems can develop with the Password Policy (it does get logged) that affects single accounts only.
You could try and create a completely new account and home for the affected user. Transfer the data from the old home propagate default permissions and go for a log-in again. Does it work now?
I'm assuming the two servers in question are in a Master/Replica relationship?

How to set up user account and share folders
We are a family of four sharing our first iMac. I would like to set up one account for my wife and I and one account for my kids on which I plan to enable Parental Controls.
I have struggled with setting up my kids user account. After setting up a Standard account for the kids - I noticed none of our music or files were visible in the kids accounts. I spent 20 min on the phone with Apple and the tech was clueless. He had me copying my music folder all over the computer until I had about 6 copies of the same folder. I did figure out how to move the music library to SHARED folder and redirect iTunes source folder to the same shared folder.
My problem now - when I copy my documents to the SHARED folder my kids can see the files and open them, but they can not save them. How do I give the kids account read write privileges?
Should I set up a GROUP account instead?
I need the best way to have two or three users who can access all data on the same iMac, while giving me the ability to enable Parental Controls on the accounts.Do this:
Here's how to set it up by using ACLs:
1. Create a new folder in /Users/Shared. Call it "Sharefolder".
2. Log in to an Admin account, open Terminal and paste in all of this at the same time:
chmod -R +a "everyone allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
/Users/Shared/Sharefolder
That will automatically make everything copied or created to the sharefolder writable by all users. Note: After setting this up, if you have existing files that you want to move to the sharefolder, hold down the option key when dragging them in. That will make new copies of them in the sharefolder. Dragging existing files in (i.e. simply moving them there) won't cause the ACL to inherit properly and they won't be writable by all users. Files that are copied or +newly created+ in the sharefolder shouldn't have this problem.
Make sure you keep good backups. One user accidentally deleting a shared file will affect everybody else who uses it. -
Dear Scripting Guys,
I am working in an AD migration project (Migration from old legacy AD domains to single AD domain) and in the transition phase. Our infrastructure contains lots
of Users, Servers and Workstations. Authentication is being done through AD only. Many UNIX and LINUX based box are being authenticated through AD bridge to AD.
We have lot of applications in our environment. Many applications are configured to use Managed Service Accounts. Many Workstations and servers are running batch
jobs with AD user credentials. Many applications are using AD user accounts to carry out their processes.
We need to find out all those AD Users, which are configured as MSA, Which are configured for batch jobs and which are being used for different applications on
our network (Need to find out for every machine on network).
These identified AD Users will be migrated to the new Domain with top priority. I get stuck with this requirement and your support will be deeply appreciated.
I hope a well designed PS script can achieve this.
Thanks in advance...
Thanks & Regards Bedanta S MishraHey Satyajit,
Thank you for your valuable reply. It is really a great notion to enable account logon audit and collect those events for the analysis. But you know it is also a tedious job when thousand of Users come in to picture. You can imagine how complex it will be
for this analysis, where more than 200000 users getting logged in through AD. It is the fact that when a batch / MS or an application uses a Domain Users credential with successful process, automatically a successful logon event will be triggered in associated
DC. But there are also too many users which are not part of these accounts like MSA/Batch jobs or not linked to any application. In that case we have to get through unwanted events.
Recently jrv, provided me a beautiful script to find out all MSA from a machine or from a list of machines in an AD environment. (Covers MSA part.)

A script can be designed to get all scheduled back ground batch jobs in a machine, from which the author / the Owner of that scheduled job can be extracted. like below one...
Function Get-ScheduledTasks

[Parameter(Position=1,ValuefromPipeline=$true,ValuefromPipelineByPropertyName=$true)]
[string[]]$Name = $env:COMPUTERNAME
[switch]$RootOnly = $false

$schedule = New-Object -ComObject "Schedule.Service"

Function Get-Tasks
Param($path)
$out = @()
$schedule.GetFolder($path).GetTasks(0) | % {
$xml = [xml]$_.xml
$out += New-Object psobject -Property @{
"ComputerName" = $Computer
"Name" = $_.Name
"Path" = $_.Path
"LastRunTime" = $_.LastRunTime
"NextRunTime" = $_.NextRunTime
"Actions" = ($xml.Task.Actions.Exec | % { "$($_.Command) $($_.Arguments)" }) -join "`n"
"Triggers" = $(If($xml.task.triggers){ForEach($task in ($xml.task.triggers | gm | Where{$_.membertype -eq "Property"})){$xml.task.triggers.$($task.name)}})
"Enabled" = $xml.task.settings.enabled
"Author" = $xml.task.principals.Principal.UserID
"Description" = $xml.task.registrationInfo.Description
"LastTaskResult" = $_.LastTaskResult
"RunAs" = $xml.task.principals.principal.userid
If(!$RootOnly)
$schedule.GetFolder($path).GetFolders(0) | % {
$out += get-Tasks($_.Path)
$out
ForEach($Computer in $Name)
If(Test-Connection $computer -count 1 -quiet)
$schedule.connect($Computer)
$tasks += Get-Tasks "\"
Else
Write-Error "Cannot connect to $Computer. Please check it's network connectivity."
Break
$tasks
End
[System.Runtime.Interopservices.Marshal]::ReleaseComObject($schedule) | Out-Null
Remove-Variable schedule
Get-ScheduledTasks -RootOnly | Format-Table -Wrap -Autosize -Property RunAs,ComputerName,Actions
So I think, can a PS script be designed to get the report of all running applications which use domain accounts for their authentication to carry out their process. So from that result we can filter out the AD accounts being used for those
applications. After that these three individual modules can be compacted in to a single script to provide the desired output as per the requirement in a single report.

Set up new iMac user accounts & storage locations
I just made the switch from Windows PC to a new iMac since it is still in the box I thought I would take some time to think about how I want to set it up before opening it and starting to dump all my files onto the new machine. I'd like to have an efficient setup and get it right from the start!
My current (PC) set up is this:
I have one 500Gb internal drive. Using Windows 7 I have four user accounts: me, my wife, and one each for the kids with parental controls. I would like to duplicate this setup, and I understand OS X Lion can do this.
Now the messy part: under my account I have a bunch of docs (word, excel files, PDF's, etc, let's call this stuff "data"), a couple thousand songs, a bunch of pics and some movies. Email etc too. When I log into my account I have a my documents folder with my data files. I have an iTunes folder and in it a bunch of music. Some is from ripped cd's, some from iTunes store, some from amazon mp3 store. When I open iTunes I have a library with all of the music avail on my machine. Oh, I also have an iPad 2 and when I plug it in, it syncs with my library and apps and movies etc. I open Thunderbird and I get my email. So far so good.
When my wife logs in she has her "my documents" folder with her data. She opens thunderbird and gets her email, not mine. More mess though: she doesn't like half the music I like, and she doesn't want to see it. When she opens iTunes she gets a library with fewer songs available, and I'm moderately sure that her songs are *copies* of what's in my music folder. Well some are anyway, some point to the music in my folder (I was not very consistent in how I added music to her library). She has an iPad 1 that syncs to her library, with only a fraction of the apps that I have. She has her own pictures too (different from mine - basically she would copy pics from the camera to her "space" but I wouldn't know it, and wouldn't see them).
The kids accounts are relatively "clean" - just accounts with parental controls for web browsing (online kids games) etc. EXCEPT my daughter has an iPod shuffle (2Gb) and a small library of songs. I *think* this library points to my files but hey might be copies.
I *dont* want to end up with a ton of duplicate files on my new machine like I *know* I have on my windows machine. It just eats up too much space.
What I want to do is have one place for all of the pictures to go, and all of the music files to go, and every time there are new pics or music, it all goes there. But I want my wife to have a "smaller" music library than me (she just plain doesn't want the "clutter" of seeing my music and having to sort through it to check it/uncheck it to put it on her iPad - she's a clutter-free freak even with digital files). For photos I want to use one iPhoto library so that if she goes in there and tags some phots with some keyword or event or adds new pics, then I see those things when I open my iPhoto (I honestly don't even know how to use iPhoto to manage my pics, my iMac is till in the box). I want her to have her data under her login and my data under mine, etc. In short, there things I want shared between the two of us, and things I don't, without duplicate files eating up the space on my 500Gb internal hard drive.
Additionally I am considering a 500Gb external drive, and rather than using it for straight up storage, using it as a time machine backup of the whole system. I am looking at a FireWire800 drive for better performance.
I'd like to get this right the first time, but don't know enough about how os x works/sets up user accounts, and/or the best, most efficient way to set up the new iMac from the get go. I don't know if I should set up all four accounts first, then add my data/music/pics manually, or use the "migration assistant" (I have read a bit about using it but honestly don't know how it works, or if it will do what I want).
Perhaps I could just print out this email and pay for apple one-to-one service, but I thought I'd check here first! Sorry for such a long post - but I am hoping I'm not the only one who has wanted to make the switch and start off on the right path! And it's a lot easier to learn from other peoples experience than to figure it all out on my own!
PS: don't know if it matters much, but I also hav an iPhone that I sync with my iTunes, and I'm concerned about losing the configuration/apps/music/movies on both my iPad and my iPhone when I make the switch. Thoughts? Should I be concerned? How do I do it correctly?You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. Give them a call and they can help you set it up, however to be honest you are way over thinking this, those old PC habits die hard! My recommendation is, take it out of the box, read the manual carefully and turn the thing on following the on-screen instructions and start enjoying your new iMac.

How do I remove user account with UID=0 (except of root)
Macbook Pro 13; I have Parallels software and did not realize I needed to upgrade to version 10 before upgrading to OS X Yosemite. I get an error stating Parallels 10 cannot be installed because there is a user account other than root that has UID=0. I checked UIDs in Terminal Utilities and there is one other username with UID=0 How do I remove username peggy?

MacBook-Pro:~ pmcvicar$BobM53, That would be needed regardless of what front end my users log in with, in my case I was looking for them to access the DIT via the DSCC/DCC, which is not possible. Regardless, thank you for your reply, it is reassuring to know I am headed in the right direction.
I am now looking towards installing something else like Apache Directory Studio, or some other GUI for users to manage the directory.
I will most likely create one or more ACI's to build groups, adding members to those groups as needed; each group being allowed to perform functions such as create users, lockout users, add/modify hosts, etc.
I will most likely follow the steps outlined in:
Directory Server Groups, Roles, and CoS - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7.0)
Slightly OT, does anyone have a suitable and similar proven method to "lockdown" root accounts, and who has root access?
Thank you
