User Defined Field in Material master

Hi Friends,
Can we add any user defined fields in any views in  material master (preferably with F4 help)
If so, please let me know how to do it and its impact.
Regards
Ram

Hi Ramachandran,
Of course.
1.  If there is an existing Material Class, use it, unless modifying that class interferes with existing business processes.  Otherwise create a new class using CL01.  Use class type 001.
2.  Create a characteristic using CT04 that represents your new field.  The characteristic will be your new field name and the description will be the description.
3.  Using CL02, assign the characteristic to the existing material class, or to the new one you just created in step 1.
4.  If this is a new system, you will have to create user instructions as to how to maintain the field.  The field will exist in the Classification view of the Material master in MM01/02/03, and the contents can be edited just like any field.
5.  If this is an existing system, you will have to populate this field in all of the existing material masters.  Depending on the size and complexity of data, you may have to create a Legacy System Migration Workbench (transaction LSMW) project to bring all the fields up to date.
As far as F4 help, depends on where you want to see it.  Within the classification view of the material master, it is possible to establish a validation in CT04 that will require your users to pick from an established validation list when they select the F4 key.  If you want F4 help in other places, you should consult your ABAP'ers, who should be able to set this up for you.
Impact of a new characteristic/class is zero.  Impact of adding a characteristic to an existing class is dependent on your current use of the existing classes.  Writing reports which use these data is a well understood technique within the ABAP community.  Although the field will not exist in MARA table, it can still give you the same functionality as if it did.
I do not recommend that you add a field to MARA, even though this is possible.  Although hotpack upgrades will leave a customer generated MARA field alone, whatever functionality you create to use this new field will be endangered with every OSS note and every hotpack upgrade you install.  Since Characteristics and Classes are considered master data, SAP hotpacks pretty much leave them alone.

  • Linking a User Defined Field in Items table

How to Link a User Defined Field in 'Item Master Data' table, to my own User Defined Table?
    Example:
In Item Master Data table, I want to add 3 User Defined Fields, for e.g, Country, State and Region.
When the value of Country combo is changed, values loaded in State and Region combos should change automatically.
I'm storing the relationship between Country,State and Region in my own user defined table. I want to load the comboboxes with a query from that table.
Or, if there's no solution to the above problem:
when the Item Master data table is opened, can we launch our own form?
Is there a way to specify that?
Please reply me back.. I'm a beginner learning SAP.

    Hi,
There is theoretically no limit on the number of UDF for a table. there is however a maximum number of characters for a record in SQL Sever.
As far as I know this is 4000 in SQL Server 2005 and older and 8000 in SQL Server 2008.
pls check Microsoft for the exact numbers

  • User defined field:item master

    Hi,
In item master data, I want to create a user defined field which is linked to an external table wherein the end-user can automatically upload new item master details into the sap appl frm an external table.

    Dear Ayesha,
As far as I understand, what you would like to do is the following :
    1. A user adds some data into an external table.
    2. The user defined Field in SAP B1 is automatically updated with the data in the external table.
If you would like to achieve the above, then I would suggest you to use one of the following methods :
    1. DTW to import the tables' content.
    2. Import/export option from Excel
    3. or an Addon created via the SDK.
If I understood the issue incorrectly, please let me know.
    Regards

  • User Defined Field

In Item Master Data ( General Tab)  an Option is available as  <b>Excisable</b>
Under neth Specified as Material Type :<b>1. Finished Goods
                                                              2. Capital Goods
                                                              3. Raw Materials</b> which are Predefined.
Now can we Have a provision as <b>Define New</b> in this Box.
If I would like to add with the Help of User Defined Field process will it be help ful can  any body guide me.

User Defined Fields can be managed by choosing User Defined Fields and Manage User Defined Fields from the Tools menu. I'm not sure about yours but on our system the UDFs we use are under the Marketing Documents tab.
Click Marketing Documents and Title. Make the Title row highlighted in yellow and click ADD. It is then up to you what you call your UDFs. Make sure they are in the correct format (Alphanumeric etc)

  • Adding user defined field in print layout design of Bill of matrial Report

I want to add "Drawing No" which is user defined field in Bill of Material report need immediate help .

    Hi,
If you add the UDF in BOM-Title then the UDF will be in OITT table.
If you add the UDF in BOM-Rows then the UDF will be in ITT1 table.
You will find BOM-Title or BOM-Rows in Production Module (ie., in User Defined Fields --> Manage User Fields)
In PLD, You can print the UDF if you search in the above said tables.

  • User defined field insertion problem in Stock Taking Report (PLD)

We are creating one PLD for one of our customer for Stock Taking Report by modifying the existing sytem report. We will insert two user defined fields (Rack & Bin) from OITW table and link these with the warehouse code field which is at report header as there are different warehouse for the item and material is kept in different rank and bin in different warehouse. But after inserting these fields we found that repetative area becomes blank in the report.
So please let us know how to overcome this problem.
    Thanks & with regards.

    Hi Aloke,
This PLD is one of the hard coded PLD. You are not able to add UDF freely. I believe you may only add UDF from OITM table. Try you own report instead.

  • User-defined field assignment  in Contact object

    Good Day
    Experts:
I guess this might apply to all SAP Business Objects.  Specifically, I am working with the oContact object.  A User-defined field has been added to the OCLG table.  I need to populate the field with the current logged on User.  I see that I can do the following with the intellisense but I am not sure where to go from here.
    vContact.UserFields.Fields.Item
I tried but I get a message "Expression is a value and therefor cannot be the target of an assigment:
    vContact.UserFields.Fields.Item("U_Creator") = (GetUserCodeSess(g_B1Connection.Company.UserName))
It feels like I should be able to set the User-defined variable through the object but I don't think I am doing it correctly.
    Any helpful hints?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hi Robert,
I think the only supported way is to give full rights to the users and block changing field in the Item Master Data form through your addon.
A non supported way is to use a query to update the item master fields

  • Update user defined fields in MARA using bapi_material_savedata

    Hi,
    I have this problem:
I am creating materials from a Z table filled by another application (not SAP). I am using the bapi "bapi_material_savedata" to create the materials and it is working fine. But now I need to fill user defined fields in the MARA table from this Z table, and this fields, are not filled after using the bapi.
I am using the bapi tables "extensionin" and "extensioninx".
I have modified the BAPI_TE_MARA structure adding the ZZ fields of the MARA and the BAPI_TE_MARAX structure with the same fields but different data elements. So I have this structures/tables:
    BAPI_TE_MARA:
       MATERIAL - MATNR
       ZZDIM1   - ZZCHDIM1
       ZZDIM2   - ZZCHDIM2
       ZZDIM3   - ZZCHDIM3
    BAPI_TE_MARAX:
       MATERIAL - MATNR
       ZZDIM1   - BAPIUPDATE
       ZZDIM2   - BAPIUPDATE
       ZZDIM3   - BAPIUPDATE
    MARA:
    ..(standard fields of the MARA)....
       ZZDIM1   - ZZCHDIM1
       ZZDIM2   - ZZCHDIM2
       ZZDIM3   - ZZCHDIM3
Here is the code that i'm using to update the extensionin and extensioninx tables:
    DATA x_bapi_te_mara TYPE bapi_te_mara.
      DATA x_bapi_te_marax TYPE bapi_te_marax.
      it_extensionin-structure = 'BAPI_TE_MARA'.
      it_extensioninx-structure = 'BAPI_TE_MARAX'.
    * the internal table it_material contains the data of the
    * ZZ fields
      MOVE-CORRESPONDING it_material TO x_bapi_te_mara.
      x_bapi_te_mara-material = it_material-matnr.
      x_bapi_te_marax-material = it_material-matnr.
      x_bapi_te_marax-zzdim1 = 'X'.
      x_bapi_te_marax-zzdim2 = 'X'.
      x_bapi_te_marax-zzdim3 = 'X'.
      it_extensionin-valuepart1 = x_bapi_te_mara.
      APPEND it_extensionin.
      it_extensioninx-valuepart1 = x_bapi_te_marax.
      APPEND it_extensioninx.
Also i have an entry in the table T130F that i'm not sure i need.
Please help me to fill this user defined fields !!
    Regards,
    Jesus

    I'm using both,
    x_bapi_te_mara-material = it_material-matnr.
    x_bapi_te_marax-material = it_material-matnr.
The first line is from the x_bapi_te_mara structure and the second for the x_bapi_te_maraX.
    Thanks

  • User defined field usage

Hi, we have a user defined field in our item master data.  It's for a link to a pdf on one of our servers.  I can enter a URL into this field and when I double click it, the pdf loads.  This is what we want.  But I can't for the life of me figure out how to clear or change the value of the field.  If I click the field it does nothing or if I double click it opens the document.  If I right click one of the options is "Cancel" but I'm terrified of cancelling the entire item.
How do I manage the value of this field?
    Thanks!

  • User defined Field Size limit

    Hi,
would anyone know if there is a limit of the number of user defined fields that can be addeded to SAP Business One (2004A on SQL server 2000)?
I think there is (in a diffrenet way). It looks like there is a maximmum byte size  - 8060.
I have the following user fields already in the business partner master data screen .
    A - alphanumeric size = 50
    B - alphanumeric size = 20
    C - alphanumeric size = 20
    D - alphanumeric size = 20
    E - alphanumeric size = 254
If I try to change B to size 254 ,This is the error message I get.
"[CUFD] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Warnning: The table 'ACRD' has been created but it's maximum row size 'User Fieds - Descr' (8522) exeeds the maximum number of bytes per row (8060)..."
there is nothig else wqrong with the field exept I cannot make it size 254 (I can if I delete the field E though), so I definitely think it is SAP restricting the size. SQL Server does not have this size restriction. I can manually go and change the size using SQL Server Enterprise manager for example.
I have managed to change the size directly on ACRD, and
CUFD but dont thinks this is a very approprite way of handilng it.
Is this an undocumented restriction/feature in SAP or have I missed reading about this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Indika.

    Hi Spiros,
I hope you are right. But I have experiences this with many atleast 3 other seperate installations. They were all SQL Server, ranging from Enterprise versio, to Developer version to standard.
However I can directly change the size in SQL Server without an issue as I mentioned. This proves that this not an issue with SQL Server. Could it be some sort of a flag in the SAP? I get this on the SAP US demo company for example.
If anyone else had the problem please do respond.
    Thanks,
    Indika

  • User Defined Fields greyed out for one user

    Hi Experts,
One of our users is a Super User but on the Business Partner Master Data screen, the User Defined Fields are greyed out.
This is user specific as the issue is happening for the same user on 2 seperate PCs.
Other users can update these UDFs - any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Greig

    Hi
take a look at this SAP Note :
Cannot access settings for the user defined fields
    Symptom
Cannot access settings for the User Defined Field(UDF)
    Other terms
UDF, user defined field, sbo-udf, settings for UDF are inactive, the settings for the udf are greyed out.
    Reason and Prerequisites
Need to use the Settings option to order the udf.
In Tools -> User Defined fields -> Settings the option 'Settings' is greyed out and inactive.
    Solution
If in Tools -> User Defined fields -> settings and this option is not available then return to the document and click anywhere in the main document window.
Now return to Tools -> User Defined fields -> settings and this option will now be active.

  • User-defined fields in cost calculation

Hi, I'm working with process order in customer service process.
I would like to make a cost precalculation based on a user-defined field.
    To let you know.
    I created a new user-defined field.
I affected to it a new parameter ID so that this user-defined field value can be used in formulas.
I created a new formula with my parameter ID.
    This is allowed for costs.
Now in my work center I defined these data for costing
price for pre calculation is defined for IN9020 and cost center.
Now in my service order I fill the required field.
I would have thought that according to formula, SAP would use this value (6 PC through the formula) to calculate costs.
    This is not the case.
    Did anybody already use this?
    Regards
    Olivier

    Dear Maniaba
We have used user fields in task list to capture quantity in terms of nos & its weight for each operation. This we used as a work around to capture the repair jobs quantity & tonnage. While mapping repair of a particular machine with out any reference to material(that is we have not created them as serialised material as in the case of refurbishment) we have created task list for its repair and user wanted to capture the quantity of repair (say how many & also its weight) so we have maintained the tonnage per 1 no in these fields. later when order is being created user selects the task list & changes the quantity field then we have developed report where we calculate the total tonnage of that job & also no of items repaired.
