User Defined Lists Setup Alternatives

I have a rather large system project coming up.  One of the pillars of this system is to have the ability for users to create generic lists that can then be referenced by the UI and backend processes.  In order to data-drive this setup, I'm searching
for different suggestions / links about setting up the tables necessary to build such a generic list setup.
As an example, a user might want to create a list containing a simple name/value pair.  Or, something more complicated where two values make up the natural key and are associated with a date value, a money value, and a couple of text values creating
a 6-column list.
I've seen a couple out there:
80/20 Rule Approach
Create a registry to store the list names and also a registry for column names and how they would be referenced / called.  The list would be stored in something like the following:
CREATE TABLE list.StandardListStore
EntryId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWID(),
ListRegistryId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL,
KeyColumn1 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
KeyColumn2 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
KeyColumn3 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
TextColumn1 nvarchar(200) NULL,
TextColumn2 nvarchar(200) NULL,
TextColumn3 nvarchar(200) NULL,
FactorColumn1 decimal(15,9) NULL,
FactorColumn2 decimal(15,9) NULL,
MoneyColumn1 money NULL,
MoneyColumn2 money NULL,
DateColumn1 datetime NULL,
DateColumn2 datetime NULL,
CreateDate datetime NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
CreateUser nvarchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT SYSTEM_USER,
UpdateDate datetime NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
UpdateUser nvarchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT SYSTEM_USER,
CONSTRAINT PK_list_StandardListStore PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED (EntryId),
CONSTRAINT UQ_list_StandardListStore UNIQUE(ListRegistryId, KeyColumn1, KeyColumn2, KeyColumn3)
GO
Obviously a lot of wasted space plus sooner or later, someone would want a list that wouldn't fit.  Expansion would be by adding a new datatype-based column to accommodate a larger list.
Second Approach - More Flexible but more complicated to manage
In this one you would have a trimmed down version of the list store above with just the row/entry id and key columns such as the following:
CREATE TABLE list.StandardListStore
EntryId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWID(),
ListRegistryId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL,
KeyColumn1 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
KeyColumn2 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
KeyColumn3 nvarchar(100) NOT NULL,
CreateDate datetime NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
CreateUser nvarchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT SYSTEM_USER,
UpdateDate datetime NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
UpdateUser nvarchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT SYSTEM_USER,
CONSTRAINT PK_list_StandardListStore PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED (EntryId),
CONSTRAINT UQ_list_StandardListStore UNIQUE(ListRegistryId, KeyColumn1, KeyColumn2, KeyColumn3)
GO
Then each possible datatype would have it's own dedicated table by data type such as the following:
CREATE TABLE list.StandardListTextColumns
DataId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWID(),
EntryId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL, -- From the list store
RegistryColumnId uniqueidentifier NOT NULL, -- Column being referenced
TextColumn nvarchar(500) NULL,
CONSTRAINT PK_list_StandardListTextColumns PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED (DataId)
GO
So, there'd be an int table, a datetime table, a money table, etc.
This approach a lot more flexible.  The challenge here is how to combine 1-many data columns from various datatype-based column tables into some semblance of a row that can be presented to the user without hard-coding any column names (no pivot).
So, do you guys know of any books, links, samples, or have suggestions for lists such as these?  Should I install a local SharePoint instance and see how they created their user-defined list database objects?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like you're over thinking this. A list is just a list...
Just off the top of my head, the following structure would allow a user to build whatever type of list they'd like and then be able to come back later and apply any of their lists to a given policy (for example), and store the values.
CREATE TABLE dbo.ListCategory (
ListCategoryName VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY
CREATE TABLE dbo.ListHeader (
ListHeaderID INT NOT NULL IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY,
ListName VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL,
ListCategory VARCHAR(50)
CONSTRAINT fk_ListCategory FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.ListCategory(ListCategoryName),
ListOwner INT
CONSTRAINT fk_Users FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.Users(UserID),
CreatedDate DATETIME
CREATE TABLE dbo.ListItems (
ListItemID INT NOT NULL IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY,
ListHeaderID INT NOT NULL
CONSTRAINT fk_ListHeader FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.ListHeader(ListHeaderID),
ListItemName VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL,
OrderBy INT NOT NULL
CREATE TABLE dbo.PolicyListResponses (
PolicyNumber VARCHAR(50)
CONSTRAINT fk_Policy FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.Policies(PolicyNumber),
ListHeaderID INT NOT NULL
CONSTRAINT fk_ListHeader2 FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.ListHeader(ListHeaderID),
ListItemID INT NOT NULL
CONSTRAINT fk_ListItems FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES dbo.ListItems(ListItemID),
ListItemValue VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT pk_PolicyListResponses PRIMARY KEY (PolicyNumber,ListHeaderID,ListItemID)

  • FR - User defined list not editable

    Dear Techies,
We are having an issue off-late with respect to editing the User defined list that we created within Financial reports. When we open the FR Studio we are not able to see the list and not able to add new items to the existing user defined list. The creation of new user defined list is also not working.
I was wondering there should be some place where this user defined table is being stored like kind of tables in some database (not sure some repository) within Hyperion servers. I searched in all places and no luck.
Could you please tell me where the User defined list created within FR is getting stored, so I can go and in add new items?
    Thanks

Only Admins can create and edit these, so you'll need admin permissions.
FYI the lists, named ADMxxx.txt, can be found on the server (11.1.x):
    \Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\app\<app_name>\<db_name>
although its unsupported to directly edit ;-)

  • Working with a user defined list

I should point out before I start, we have only really just got SharePoint and are trying to mirror things we used to do in Excel.  I really dont have any technical coding experience.  So if possible can we stick to OOTB functionality, but if that
isnt possible then so be it.
We have a timesheet based system in excel where there is a list with the headers
Contract Name and Contract Code.  This is a long list and most users are only working on a fraction of this list at any given time, but it is dynamic.  A user can move in and out of contracts at
the drop of a hat.  So what I want, or what I think I want, is the following
Is it possible for a User to create their own custom list (UserContractList), based on another list (CompanyContractList) that they can add and remove from at will.   And when the user
goes to add entries to the company wide TimesheetList and they go to add a contract to the list it gives them the choice from their specific
UserContractList and this changes on who logs in.
Im really sorry if Ive got any of the SharePoint 2013 termanology mixed up.
If it helps, we are using Enterprise for Non Profit E1
    ta in advance
    Lee

There's a few tricks you can use to make this more manageable for users
Recreate your headers as custom columns. If you're going to be using them elsewhere then Managed Metadata Columns would be best.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/office365-sharepoint-online-enterprise-help/introduction-to-managed-metadata-HA101974326.aspx
Once you've added that column you can add 'Metadata Navigation' to the list, allowing a user to filter the list down to only the relevant fields.
(2010 instructions but still valid for 2013:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint-server-help/configure-metadata-navigation-for-a-list-or-library-HA101820113.aspx)
When a user wants to add an entry to the list they would click on the 'add item' link, then start typing the code/name into a box. After the first two or three characters they will then be presented with suggestions below the box (in the same way Google
does). Or they can use a hierarchical structure to browse to a code/name.
If you wanted you could also set the list so that most users can only see their own entries. The ability to view all items can be restricted to a select few power users. This can be done by going into 'List Settings>Advanced Settings' and ticking the
box labeled something like 'only allow users to view/edit their own items'. There are other options available.
Your suggested approach could be done but it's going to be a lot more work than you'd like. Think of it as creating a spreadsheet per person and then amalgamating it later. The real problem would be if and when you want to update the lists, you'd have a
    heck of a time.

  • 11.1.3 - Reporting - User Defined Member Lists

I exported a report from our production environment which is version 9.3.1 and imported into our development environment which is version 11.1.3 via Workspace and the user defined member list was not imported. Is there a way to have them included when reports are exported or do they have to recreated after they are imported?
    Edited by: DPA1101 on Apr 8, 2010 11:55 AM

I'm running 11.1.1.3 and just ran into some problems with user-defined lists and found out that, for reports using Essbase as the source, the lists are stored as txt files in the database directory. So exporting the reports will never include the lists. You would need to copy the files from one server to the other. There are at least 3 files. Two of them are like indexes. The third contains XML with the actual list.
We're just starting to play with user lists so I haven't figured out if the naming convention I'm seeing is consistent everywhere. In my case, I have a file named ADMDir.txt. This has a single entry that points to another file. That file contains the list names and references to the files that contains the list (in xml).
    I hope this helps.

  • UDT and UDF - User-defined Tables and Fields

    Dear All,
I am writing a Query to permit the Cashier to check her Cash entries and balances on a Daily basis.
Basically, it's a General Ledger, but I want the Query - Selection Criteria window to display only a few GL codes namely GL codes 1240601, 1240602, 1240603 etc.
I don't know if I am doing it right. This is what I did (SAP B1 8.8):
    UDT
    I created a UDT called TEST2 using:
    Tools -> Customization Tools -> User-defined Tables - Setup
    UDF
Then I created a field in the UDT called GlCod using User-Defined Fields - Management
    Title : GlCod
    Description : GL Code
    Type : Alphanumeric 30
    Field Data
In the Field Data window, I ticked the Set Valid Values for Fields checkbox and filled in the blanks as follows:
    #                  Value                Description
1                 1240601             Cash in Hand (Rs)
2                 1240602             Cash in Hand (USD Notes)
3                 1240603             Cash in Hand (Euro Notes)
    etc...
    Query
Then I wrote my Query (see below).
When I run it, I get the Selection Criteria screen as I wanted:
    Query - Selection Criteria
    GL Code                                   ...............   (arrow here)
    Posting Date                              ...............
    [OK]                [Cancel]
When I click on the GL Code arrow, I get a window with the exact choices I need. It looks like this:
1240601 -  Cash in Hand (Rs)
1240602 -  Cash in Hand (USD Notes)
1240603 -  Cash in Hand (Euro Notes)
    Executing the Query
The Query seems to run normally, but nothing is generated on the screen, and there's no Error Message.
What can be wrong about this query?
I suspect that the GL codes in JDT1 and TEST2 are not of the same data type, so that INNER JOIN returns nothing.
    Thanks,
    Leon Lai
    Here's my SQL
    declare @TEST2 TABLE
    (GlCod varchar(30))
    declare @GlCod nvarchar (30)
    set @GlCod =/*SELECT T0.U_GlCod from [dbo].[@TEST2] T0 where T0.U_GlCod=*/  '[%0]'
    declare @refdt datetime
    set @ref=/*SELECT T1.RefDate from [dbo].[JDT1] T1 where T1.RefDate=*/ '[%1]'
    select
    t1.Account as 'GL Code',
    t1.RefDate as 'Posting Date',
    t0.U_GlCod as 'Restricted GL Codes'
    from JDT1 T1
    INNER JOIN @TEST2 T0 ON T0.[U_GlCod] = T1.[Account]
    WHERE
    t1.RefDate <= @refdt
    and
    t0.U_GLCod = @GlCod

    Try this:
    declare @GlCod nvarchar (30)
    set @GlCod =/*SELECT T0.U_GlCod from [dbo].[@TEST2] T0 where T0.U_GlCod=*/  '[%0]'
    declare @refdt datetime
    set @refdt=/*SELECT T1.RefDate from [dbo].[JDT1] T1 where T1.RefDate=*/ '[%1]'
    select
    t1.Account as 'GL Code',
    t1.RefDate as 'Posting Date'
    from JDT1 T1
    WHERE
    t1.RefDate <= @refdt
      and
    T1.[Account] = @GlCod
(There is no need to declare the memoria table @test2 if you already created one table with this name.
And there is no need to a join.)

  • Creating user defined table

how make new table as i need in sap b1 and also tell me how to insert update data in that table
    thanks and regards
    Parag

If you need to add table using a program, you have to use the UserTableMD object. Once table is created you can add fields using UserFieldsMD object.
Help is available with SDK help center.
Once table is created, you can add data using RecordSet objects, UserTables Objects etc.
You can also create table and fields using SBO (Tools->Customization Tools->User-Defined Tables - Setup...) and
    (Tools->Customization Tools->User-Defined Fields - Management...) etc.

  • User-defined selection list support in HA Release 6.5

Dear all, As in Hyperion Wired for OLAP v4.1.2 and Hyperion Analyzer Release 5.0.3, it can allow users to create user-defined selection list for a dimension under "Advanced" option of Cube Navigator, is there the same function in Hyperion Analyzer Release 6.5? If no, is there any turnaround or alternative? Thanks for your help.Regards, Zero

    Hello,
You must have defined user command for the radio button. This is not required. Just try putting it in at selection screen. AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON RADIOBUTTON GROUP rgp1.
the moment the user clicks the radio button it will go to this event and call the screen. Just use AT SELECTION-SCREEN.

  • How to display user define value in list screen from detail screen

    Hello Experts
I am working on task in which i have to display the user define value on list screen. like i have one list list screen which have one button for add..once i click on add which navigate to detail screen and detail screen has two fields one for ID AND other for name and detail screen has one button for save once i put value for id and name and click on save button which will navigate to previous list screen and those values which should be display on list screen.
    Regards:
    Sumit

    Hi Sumit,
To navigate to the Master page on button click , you need some thing like,
    oSplitApp.toMaster("masterpage_id");
to understand the navigation for Master/Detail page , have a look at,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_uiaddon10/helpdata/en/df/adb6b7247e4826b0fcde472b029840/content.htm
Also to pass value from Detail page to Master page, you can use a Global variable to store your values on click of the Save button. For eg. You may have a global JS file which both Master and Detail page can access like App.Js, Application.JS etc.
After navigating to the Master page, you can read the Global variables and show it on your Master page.

  • Use of user define field in Task list

    Hi,
Please give the solution for the strange requirement of the client as:
My client wants to define the operation for preventive maintenace in two parts like
check temperature  :  45 deg celcius.
check temperature should be like operation and rest what he has to check to be defined in other field  i.e. both should not be together.
so i find the solution as user defined fields in the task list where i can define this second parameter.
But the problem is that system is not proposing this second field in the preventive order, only operation field is proposed.
Please suggest some solution, how can this requirement can be mapped.

Both operations of the inspection lot will need to be completed at some point.  They are in the same lot so they belong together.  Both operations should be available to the user.  (Unless you used workcenters and security to limit users to specific workcenters).
Once set up, it will only be available to new inspection lots.  Few things in SAP are retroactive.

  • User Defined Attributes in Tree List

Does anyone know what the User Defined Attributes is used for in the tree list (when in Create / Edit List Entry screen)?
I'm trying to put a title tag on my list entries so I get a tooltip when hovering the mouse over each entry and thought this might be the way to do it.
If not then User Defined Attributes sounds like it could be useful anyway but I can't find any documentation on what it does.

    Hello Antilles.
The user defined attributes that you refer to it´s used to specify additional attributes.
You can find more useful information about this topic in this link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/nav.htm

  • User defined fields in task list

What is the significance of adding user defined fields in task list operation?

    Dear Maniaba
We have used user fields in task list to capture quantity in terms of nos & its weight for each operation. This we used as a work around to capture the repair jobs quantity & tonnage. While mapping repair of a particular machine with out any reference to material(that is we have not created them as serialised material as in the case of refurbishment) we have created task list for its repair and user wanted to capture the quantity of repair (say how many & also its weight) so we have maintained the tonnage per 1 no in these fields. later when order is being created user selects the task list & changes the quantity field then we have developed report where we calculate the total tonnage of that job & also no of items repaired.

    Dear all,
I need to make list of User Defined Values at the field in SO. Is there any limitation of row quantity for that ? because the list will grow until thousand..
    Regards

    Dear Ho we,
There is no limitation of user define filed for document level and document row level.
At present i think no budy use 1000 UDF at row level so its very difficult to say after creation of 1000 UDF what is impact on system performance.
You have to work try basis.

2.1 added in the User defined field list in Users form - branch
2.2 Added the entry with proper tags in formmetadata.xml
2.3 And also updated it in the xlWebAdmin_en_US.properties file
    3. Restarted the server.
    4. And in the DBAT provisioning process added a new task, attached a process task adapter in integration.
    4.1 in Adapter variable mapping
    Adapter return value

    Qualifier - DEFAULT_BRANCH ( I think target attribute name)
    4.2 input value

    5. Added the USR_UDF_BRANCH CODE , Update DEFAULT_BRANCH to the the lookup usr process triggers.
When an end user modifies from the account profile, it only reflects in the process form and not in the target table
It gives the following error and also an error for email notification which i have not configured. it is using OOTB user profile edit process.

The other usecase is - when xelsysadm logs into idm console and updates the attribute on the user form, it updates the process form and the target table column also.
    Please help me...
    Thanks & Regards
    Kunal Jain

You need to give permission to update the process form to any users who would be the source of the change. So if joe schmoe is updating the user, they need permission to update the process form for any user they update.
