User Rights Assignment should WLi have
Hi:
No matter what system user I try to use I can't start the WLserver for WLi.
What am I missing? or what rights should be assigned system user for WL to start?
A system user name and password. WebLogic Server user names and passwords can
contain any character from the JDK supported character sets, including international
characters.
Thank You

Hi ikrambuneri,
Based on your description, I have an idea .But I won`t guarantee it will work .
We can use the AccessChk tool with parameter "/f /p"to check the token information and privilages information of this specific software process .Then we can create a group and authority the realted privilages to this group from the group policy .

As a work around ,you can create a shortcut with "Runas" command line for the user .Here is a link for reference of doing this .
Please note that this method will ask for the administrator password for the first time to run the software short cut and it will save the administrator privilages and this may result in security issue .We don`t recommend to do this.

Missing user rights assignment entries for many security policies in list exported via secedit
Hello,
First of all, I posted this same question on The Official Scripting Guys Forum! but didn't get the answer to this exact question (even though I received a lot of useful relevant info). That is why I am posting here. This is a more appropriate
forum for the question. (Also posted on Windows Server 2012 General two days ago and didn't get a response at all).
OK, question time:
I want to modify the user rights assignment for a local security policy. In the GUI, find User Rights Assignment as follows: Win+R -> Enter "secpol.msc" -> Go to Local Policies -> Go to User Rights Assignment.
So, to modify a particular use rights assignment via a script, I need to export the INF file using secedit, modify it and then configure using the modified file using secedit. To export the INF file, I am using:
secedit /export /db C:\Windows\security\database\secedit.sdb /mergedpolicy /cfg SecPolicy
Now, the problem is that the INF file exported doesn't have all the user rights assignments that I see in the GUI. For example, the policy "Restore files and directories" has users/groups in its settings but it doesn't show up in the INF file.
In fact, most don't. Only five do and all these five have a different symbol next to them in the GUI. How are these policies different? What do I need to do to export all the policies?
EDIT: Adding screenshot of what I see:
Thanks!

Can you post a screen shot? My guess is that what you're seeing is that
secpol is only exporting the local settings and not ones that are set by a
GPO in AD and that will also be the difference between the icons.

"Local Policies User Rights Assignment" not applying
I bought Dell Vostro series computer with a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM.
The OS cannot apply the changed User Rights Assignment in Local Policies.
Here is the step to re-produce the problem:
1. Launch "cmd"
2. Type "date 2014-06-20" in the command prompt. (i.e. try to change the date)
3. A error shown "A required privilege is not held by the client."
4. I go to "Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy".
5. I open "Local Policies > User Rights Assignment", and add "Everyone" to "Change the system time" and "Change the time zone"
6. Restart the computer
7. Launch "cmd" and type "date 2014-06-20", the same error message shown. That is, the policy is not applied.
Note: If I launch the cmd as administrator, no error will show.
I am not familiar with Local Security Policy and related and I tried to search online but not thing found (maybe I didn't know how to apply).
I would like to know how to resolve this problem from you. If you need more information like the log in Event Log, please tell me which one you need.
Thanks so much!Hi,
I tested this issue, after adding everyone to the group you mentioned above, I can successfully change the system time as a standard user. and the format is date 06-20-2014
I suggest you logon as admin, and manually check the policy, see whether it has been updated.

Remote Desktop user rights assignment
I have a 2012 server that I'm using with Remote Desktop Services. Users connect to this server to work with QuickBooks 2013 Premiere. The problem is that QuickBooks would not run unless users had administrative rights. To get around this I made
everyone an administrator. The problem is that a user inadvertently shut down the server. How can I assign enough rights to enable users to use QuickBooks, but not shut down the server?
More specifically - how can I more granularly adjust the rights and permissions users have when they log in via Remote Desktop.
Thanks!Hi,
As QuickBookes requires the Windows administrator privilege, I’m afraid that we cannot limit user rights and prevent them to shut down the server.
However, as a workaround, you may try to publish QuickBooks as a RemoteApp so that users will just connect to the App instead of the server.

ERR_WIS_30253 and user should not have 'save' rights to public folder
Hello
Environment - BO XI 3.2 SP2, FP 3.6
Source is SAP - BI 7
I am trying to implement the security in the project for the very first time from scratch , and requirement is -
there should be 3 type of user Groups - Super, Power and End users
All the users have their own specifications, along with that, one common requirement is, in-spite of the group user belong to, should not have the rights to save the BO reports in the public folder but may save it to its Favorites.
I have created one super users group and also assigned some rights to Reporting folder.
But
1. I am not getting any option to achieve the above mentioned requirement.
2. I am getting Error ERR_WIS_30253 while trying to refresh the reports.
Looking forward to have a quick reply from experts.
Thanks in advance.
Zeenat
Edited by: Zeenat on Nov 14, 2011 7:20 PMHi Zeenat,
If you have observed in BO right collections are categorized as:
General
Content
Application
system
For Err_WIS_30253:
We generally follow the practice of creating custom access levels as per the business requirement and apply them on the folder level. If you're one of us, to resolve this issue for WEBI reports you would have to edit the custom access level applied on the folder by providing "Refresh report's data" privilege for 'Web Intelligence Report' in 'CONTENT' rights collection.
The key is 'CONTENT' right collection. Its similar in BIP 4.x Platform with 'owner' privilege.
Issue is resolved.:)
If above practice is not followed in your org you could also provide above stated privilege on the folder containing the WEBI report.
Hope this gives you some idea.
Kind regards,

Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`
Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
on the local PC.
Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
having is related to Security Settings only.
I enabled Group Policy logging on the Windows XP workstation and include it

What type of license should the user be assigned when passing transactions through the DI Server?
We used to assign indirect access licenses to users that were just using the DI Server. We have one add-on developer that says that the user has to be a Profession license. Current environment is SAP B1 9.0 PL10. My understanding was that you could have up to 10 users assigned to a single DI Server license.Hi,
From the license guide,
Indirect Access – has access to any SSP solutions (developed with the SAP Business One DI-API) only. The Indirect Access license is bundled with the DI server. Users who have an Indirect Access license can access a limited number of application forms, but cannot perform any functions with the SAP Business One application. Users who have an Indirect Access license can access an unlimited number of SSP solutions

ACL rights assignment in new user script
I've been tasked with converting an old new-user script that runs at least once a day written in VB to PowerShell. This script takes as input a CSV file we get from HR that has all necessary info and creates a user, adds them to specific groups based on
the info in the CSV, enables their Exchange mailbox, and creates their home directory. I'm having a bit of trouble planning out the rights assignment part on the user home directory; I need to be able to add the specific user (set by variable at the beginning
of the script) and three static groups. What is the best way to do that? I can easily grab outside modules if needed (a section of my script checks for and if necessary installs modules and adds snap-ins), but I'd rather keep this 100% PowerShell - no icacls
or outside commands.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

$acl_access2 = "domain\$samaccountname"
$fullrights = "Fullcontrol"
$modifyrights = "Modify"
$inheritrights = "ContainerInherit,ObjectInherit"
$rule1 = new-object system.security.accesscontrol.filesystemaccessrule ($acl_access1, $fullrights, $inheritrights, "none", "Allow")

Enable User Rights in Adobe: how to always have that on?
I finally figured out why most PC users were not able to save any of the fields they filled out in my PDFs: I didn't know about the user rights feature.
Is there a way to always "Enable User Rights in Reader" to be turned on, so I don't have to remember to go the Advanced menu and select "Enable User Rights In Acrobat Reader" ?
Many thanks!> It took years, and years, and years of beging and pleading. And Adobe finally threw us a Bone.
Yes. And then poisioned it with this ridiculous and undecipherable license limitation.
> ...you would presumably know which users sent you a PDF that you enabled with Acrobat.
The mumbo-jumbo seems to assume the use of saveable forms is always for data collection, sent back to the form's creator. That is the use of
least interest to me.
For me, it's all about creating a design-intensive document
once (a placement ad or a marketing flyer or a spec sheet), adding a few simple boiler-plate fields to it for contact information, and sending it to my client, who then sends it to his dealers. Each dealer can then edit the contact info, save it, have it printed or placed in a newspaper, use it for trade show hand-outs.
How is the creator of such a document supposed to police the 500 "uses" limit? Who is liable when that limit is exceeded? What constitutes a single "use"? (I only used the file once. The client only used the file once. Each Dealer will
edit the form content once, but may have it printed in 501 local newspapers.)
The terms are unintelligible and probably unenforceable. This confusion has existed ever since Adobe finally threw the bone. The stupid paranoia poison just needs to be removed.

It says on the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8" pg that this download is for all users and supercedes all earlier versions. Yet to the right is says you HAVE to HAVE 10.6.8 as a requirement. WHICH is it? Is it for all versions of 10.6 or not? Why isnt this made more clear?
And question is STILL not answered. WHICH is to be downloaded and used?
I would like an answer.Thank you for the clarification! It is really kinda circle-speaking to state on an information page to put forth info people need in that manner. It really does add to the confusion and frustration when you need a simple,
straight answer, such as you gave, and you dont get one. Kind of like that . . other... software company....
This rabbit hole still continues, though. I'm going to ladder it out, just to see for myself:
Have: MacBookPro / 2.4 GHz/ Intel Core i5/ running OS X 10.6.3 -
Need: latest version of Java, so Flash update can be loaded;
(want html5 to be the standard so badly, but client wants Flash)
Attempted: Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2 on Apple website. No Joy.
Found: Update 2 is proper update for Mac OS X 10.6.3. Could not find download on Apple website;
- No Joy.
Attempted: Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8. Half Joy. Confusing, no straight info.
Found: In order to install update for Java, must update OS X from present 10.6.3 to 10.6.8
Attempted: Tried to find update to OS X 10.6.3 to 10.6.8. on Apple website.
how far does the rabbit hole go? -
Files an folders have wrong user rights on OS X Server with 10.5.6
Hi there, since updating to 10.5.6 we have a strange behaviour in our network. All Leopard clients are not able to search on our network volumes (OS X Server 10.4.11). The user rights are owner: admin; everyone: read only
All groups and users which are defined in the server management where not shown. The rights on all machines which are working under Tiger show the correct rights.
Any ideas?Try the server products forums.

How to restrict user rights so they can add list items but cannot edit them once saved?
I appreciate if you can help me with this. My beloved company uses SP2010, and I got the task to solve this issue using it, though I am not a programmer (basic html is still ok).
I need a simple annual leave list with the following capabilities:
1. Group of users (~100 members) should be able to create list items in a list that contains annual leave data. Columns are: Name, Leave start date, Leave end date, Team leader, etc.
2. Once they fill in the new item form, a workflow notifies the team leader to visit the item and set a column "approval status" to approved or rejected.
3. Based on this column value, another workflow notifies the requestor about the decision.
4. After approval, users should be able to see their items in the list, but they should not be able to edit it.
Sounds so simple, but I have big issues with point 4. as Sharepoint does not differentiate create and edit rights to a list item. As a result, requestor can edit dates of the approved items.
Any hints how to solve this? Can impersonation help with this? Or should I add a new permission level to the site?Hello
We are going to do the following things to accomplish your task
create a new security permission level that will allow submit only
create your annual leave list
assign everyone the submit only permission
add a workflow to send the email and modify the item permissions
Ok first things first, on the sharepoint server open a powershell window and type the following powershell:
$spweb=Get-SPWeb -Identity "<site url>";
$spRoleDefinition = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPRoleDefinition;
$spRoleDefinition.Name = "Submit only";
$spRoleDefinition.Description = "Can submit/add forms/files/items into library or list but cannot view/edit them.";
$spRoleDefinition.BasePermissions = "AddListItems, ViewPages, ViewFormPages, Open";
$spweb.RoleDefinitions.Add($spRoleDefinition);
$spweb.Dispose();
Now in your site you will have a new permission level called 'Submit Only'.
Create your annual leave list and give all users read and submit only permissions.
Now create a workflow against this list in sharepoint designer.
Add a new step which should be an impersonization step
1st action
add permission: give the user and their manager (i am presuming you are capturing this information in your list so it will be recorded against the item) whatever control you wish, i.e. full control, contribute, etc.
2nd action
remove list permission: remove the group you initially gave read and submit only permission to and select the read and submit only permissions to remove from them, i.e. if you added the 'All Users' group, then when performing this action choose to remove
the read and submit only permissions for the users 'All Users'.
3rd Action
Send an Email: Email Manager with notification.

i just face the same issue and i create a new Permission level named "Submit Only". but i also have a custom web part that is added to my Create form . so when users tried to access the Create form they will get Access Defined. so is there a way to
modify the permission level to be able to read web parts ? -
When using the camera downloader in Adobe Bridge CS6 with Nikon D5200 we are unable to see previews of the photos and it is very slow to download. The issue occurs under a the users rights, but not under admin level. This is a new issue.
Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to
“X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
2. Delete all the files in this folder.
3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
Best regards,
Eric

Saving Extended User Right Forms
Hi,
I'm attempting to bring my office up to date by using forms on computers. Currently we still the type writer for some forms. I fought to get Adobe Acrobat Pro and now that I have it I'm not sure it's doing what I want. Suggestions on how to use this program better or get the 'right program are appreciated' (no disrespect to the Adobe Team). I converted a form that was created from Word Document into a PDF. I then Extended User rights. I have the form made but everytime I go to save the form, I have to Save As: that is to say I just can't save the stuff I filled-in, in the same file and a new file is created. With MS Word, even though I can't tab between forms, I don't have to make a new file. Am I doing something wrong, is it possible to just hit Save in a fillable form and not have to create a new document or version?
In the office, I am the only one with Adobe Pro 9 and the other people in the office mainly have Adobe Reader and not acrobat, so I want to save the forms using Adobe Reader.
Thank you for your insights. I've been researching this but no answer has come my way.
Ricardo
P.S. I am not trying to collect data from them, I just need forms to fill out and print and also save in the computer. You should apply the Extended User Rights as the last step in the process
of creating the file. Once you do that, it creates a sort of signature on
the file which prevents you from editing it further, unless you remove
those rights. So get the file working the why you want it, apply the
rights, and then save it under a new name. You can then publish the version
of the file with the Reader rights, and continue working on the one without
them.
