Missing user rights assignment entries for many security policies in list exported via secedit

Hello,
First of all, I posted this same question on The Official Scripting Guys Forum! but didn't get the answer to this exact question (even though I received a lot of useful relevant info). That is why I am posting here. This is a more appropriate
forum for the question. (Also posted on Windows Server 2012 General two days ago and didn't get a response at all).
OK, question time:
I want to modify the user rights assignment for a local security policy. In the GUI, find User Rights Assignment as follows: Win+R -> Enter "secpol.msc" -> Go to Local Policies -> Go to User Rights Assignment.
So, to modify a particular use rights assignment via a script, I need to export the INF file using secedit, modify it and then configure using the modified file using secedit. To export the INF file, I am using:
secedit /export /db C:\Windows\security\database\secedit.sdb /mergedpolicy /cfg SecPolicy
Now, the problem is that the INF file exported doesn't have all the user rights assignments that I see in the GUI. For example, the policy "Restore files and directories" has users/groups in its settings but it doesn't show up in the INF file.
In fact, most don't. Only five do and all these five have a different symbol next to them in the GUI. How are these policies different? What do I need to do to export all the policies?
EDIT: Adding screenshot of what I see:
Thanks!

Can you post a screen shot? My guess is that what you're seeing is that
secpol is only exporting the local settings and not ones that are set by a
GPO in AD and that will also be the difference between the icons.

  • User Rights Assignment should WLi have

    Hi:
    No matter what system user I try to use I can't start the WLserver for WLi.
    What am I missing? or what rights should be assigned system user for WL to start?
    A system user name and password. WebLogic Server user names and passwords can
    contain any character from the JDK supported character sets, including international
    characters.

    Hi ikrambuneri,
    Based on your description, I have an idea .But I won`t guarantee it will work .
    We can use the AccessChk tool with parameter "/f /p"to check the token information and privilages information of this specific software process .Then we can create a group and authority the realted privilages to this group from the group policy .

    As a work around ,you can create a shortcut with "Runas" command line for the user .Here is a link for reference of doing this .
    Please note that this method will ask for the administrator password for the first time to run the software short cut and it will save the administrator privilages and this may result in security issue .We don`t recommend to do this.

  • "Local Policies User Rights Assignment" not applying

    I bought Dell Vostro series computer with a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM.
    The OS cannot apply the changed User Rights Assignment in Local Policies.
    Here is the step to re-produce the problem:
    1. Launch "cmd"
    2. Type "date 2014-06-20" in the command prompt. (i.e. try to change the date)
    3. A error shown "A required privilege is not held by the client."
    4. I go to "Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy".
    5. I open "Local Policies > User Rights Assignment", and add "Everyone" to "Change the system time" and "Change the time zone"
    6. Restart the computer
    7. Launch "cmd" and type "date 2014-06-20", the same error message shown. That is, the policy is not applied.
    Note: If I launch the cmd as administrator, no error will show.
    I am not familiar with Local Security Policy and related and I tried to search online but not thing found (maybe I didn't know how to apply).
    I would like to know how to resolve this problem from you. If you need more information like the log in Event Log, please tell me which one you need.
    Thanks so much!

    Hi,
    I tested this issue, after adding everyone to the group you mentioned above, I can successfully change the system time as a standard user. and the format is date 06-20-2014
    I suggest you logon as admin, and manually check the policy, see whether it has been updated.

  • Remote Desktop user rights assignment

    I have a 2012 server that I'm using with Remote Desktop Services. Users connect to this server to work with QuickBooks 2013 Premiere.  The problem is that QuickBooks would not run unless users had administrative rights.  To get around this I made
    everyone an administrator.  The problem is that a user inadvertently shut down the server.  How can I assign enough rights to enable users to use QuickBooks, but not shut down the server?
    More specifically - how can I more granularly adjust the rights and permissions users have when they log in via Remote Desktop.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    As QuickBookes requires the Windows administrator privilege, I’m afraid that we cannot limit user rights and prevent them to shut down the server.
    However, as a workaround, you may try to publish QuickBooks as a RemoteApp so that users will just connect to the App instead of the server.

  • Has anyone else noticed that the iOS 6 Maps App is missing the area code for many places it has listed?

    If I try to look up a local business on the Maps App it drops a pin on all of the locations matching my search parameters. However, when I get details about a dropped pin, the phone number is usually missing the area code! For example, if the phone number is +1 (123) 555-5555 it would show up as +1 (555) 555-5. This makes it impossible to call directly from the maps app or to copy and paste infront of a manually entered area code (because of the '+1'). Has anyone else noticed this?

    Have you checked to make sure that your region settings are correct?

  • Any way to assign value for  variable of type Class List String ?

    I'm puzzled why I can declare a variable:
    Class<List<String>> clazz;but I cannot assign a value to it as
    clazz = List<String>.class;The compiler also complains about
    Class<List<?>> clazz0 = List<?>.class;yet it has the nerve to warn about raw types when I give up and use
    Class<List> clazz0 = List.class;Even using a dummy instance does not work.
            List<String> dummy = new ArrayList<String>();
            Class<List<String>> clazz1 = dummy.getClass();I only care because I've declared a method like
    public String useless( Class<List<String>> unSetable){
      return  unSetable.getName();
    }And now there seems to be no way to call it.

    Hello chymes,
    there is no way to get an instance of Class<List<String>> without at least one unchecked warning. Otherwise you could get away with the following:
    List<Integer> ints = new ArrayList<Integer>();
    Class<List<String>> clazz = List<String>.class;
    List<String> strings = clazz.cast(ints);
    strings.add("No Good");
    int i = ints.get(0); // CCETherefore the only way to get it is via unchecked cast:
    Class<List<String>> clazz = (Class<List<String>>) (Object) List.class;With kind regards

  • Do I need to add new users under sun-web for declarative security to work?

    Hello,
    Do I need to add a <principal-name> element under sun-web.xml whenever a new user registers on my website? I am planning to use declarative security for my website, so I went ahead and created a custom realm that uses JDBC to get users information from MySQL. To do a simple test I added a new user under a new group that does not have a mapping under sun-web.xml. However, web.xml has the needed security-constraint and security-role elements that define the role and the protected resources. The problem is that when I deploy the application under SJSAS PE9 I get the following warning: "No Principals mapped to Role [jdev]". Does that mean I have to add each and every use to sun-web.xml for the declarative security to work?

    Good question. I am having the same problem with my LDAP realm. Funny thing is that the exact same approach worked fine and dandy with Sun AS 8. Sounds to me like something broke under AS 9 ...

  • Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`

    Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
    In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
    Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
    the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
    taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
    configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
    on the local PC.
    Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
    taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
    having is related to Security Settings only.

  • SCCM 2007 - Uninstall user rights installed program

    We are facing some issue when we want to uninstall Programs in Windows 7 which have been installed with the logged on user’s rights.
    We are using SCCM 2007 and have packages installing “Only when a user is logged on” and “Run with user rights”. We did this way package to run with user rights due to the application functionality.
    But the problem comes when we try to Uninstall the current package, we run a vbs script with admin rights to uninstall the current version before the install of the upgraded version, the VBS scripts runs with admin rights and a result the can’t the application
    under programs and features on the system.
    When we run the .vbs script with user right it work for the only that user who had previously logged on to that pc, so if the second user logs on get error when uninstalling the pervious application as it was installed under his user rights.
    I know this is a very tricky situation but can please help.
    Regards,
    Sabi

    execute the un-install from SCCM by means of a package and run it under the system account

    suggest me...
    Thanks,
    srii..

    Hi Sri ,
    first u need to find out  in which user rules u are using this object , after that if u want to restrict users then remove create/change values from that object values .
    make use of Tcode SUIM to find out all roles which are using this Object.
    or
    ask ur basis guy to remove authorizations to create/change....

  • In BDCP table I am not getting any entries for EKKO,EKPO,EKBE,EKET,EBAN

    In BDCP table I am not getting any entries for EKKO,EKPO,EKBE,EKET,EBAN tables.
    But there are entries for many other tables.
    I have got objects for EKKO,EKPO,EKBE,EKET,EBAN tables from TCDOB tables.

    Hi Avishek,
       Let me explain the meaning of Change pointers.
    If you have entry in BDCP table for MARA, that means everytime a material is created in MARA table in one system, a corresponding Material is created in another system which is connected to the current system VIA ALE. and whenever you change that material in your source system, then the change is propagated to the target system also(If you have done the change pointer set up).
    The you do not have entries for other tables becuase the configuration for change pointers is not done for those Objects(In your case the change pointers are not defined for Purchase Orders and hence no entries in BDCP table).

  • Security Policies and System Time

    I'm trying to remove the right for all users\power users to change the
    system time. I've hiden the timedate.cpl but they could still change the
    date and time from the system try. So I removed the right for
    users\powerusers in Computer configuration\windows settings\security
    settings\local policies\user rights assignment\change the system time in our
    default users policy and enabled the security settings for that policy. When
    I look at the local policy after I reboot with gpedit the rights to change
    the system have been removed, however they still can change the data and
    time. If I remove the rigth manually it works until I reboot. I tried the
    workaround in TID10096722, but that did not help. Am I missing something? I
    am running ZfD 4.0.1 IR5, Windows 2000 SP4, NWClient 4.91 SP1.
    Thanks Jason

  • Entry for host name is missing or empty (Secure Store key: admin/host/).

    Hi All,
    I am in the process of installing EP7 on SLES9 and MaxDB 7.6 on a clustered HA environment where the SCS, DB and JC components are installed under and referenced by their virtual hostname (eg. sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME <virt name>).
    The SCS instance is installed, the Database Instance is installed and I'm currently in the process of Installing the JC and Deploying the EP packages.
    During the installation, SDM is put into standalone mode and sapinst tries to deploy the package EPBC06_0.SCA where it fails and the sdm_server.err shows :
    "com.sap.sdm.serverext.servertype.inqmy.TargetEngineConfigurationException: Cannot retrieve Engine logon data from Secure Store: Entry for host name is missing or empty (Secure Store key: admin/host/).        at com.sap.sdm.serverext.servertype.inqmy.InQMyTargetSystemConfigurator.getLoginDataFromSecStoreInQMyTargetSystemConfigurator.java:286)        at com.sap.sdm.serverext.servertype.inqmy.InQMyTargetSystemConfigurator.getEngineLoginDataInQMyTargetSystemConfigurator.java:197)        at com.sap.sdm.serverext.servertype.inqmy.EngineStateServiceImpl.determineCurrentEngineStateEngineStateServiceImpl.java:53)        at com.sap.sdm.app.proc.deployment.states.State.determineJ2EEEngineState(State.java:97)        at com.sap.sdm.app.proc.deployment.states.StateBeforeFirstDeployment.getJ2EEEngineStateChangeDescriptionStateBeforeFirstDeployment.java:75)        at com.sap.sdm.app.view.proc.deployment.mapper.StateMapper.map(StateMapper.java:56)        at com.sap.sdm.app.view.proc.deployment.mapper.FlowMapper.map(FlowMapper.java:28)        at com.sap.sdm.app.view.session.AppViewUpdater.updateAppView(AppViewUpdater.java:22)        at com.sap.sdm.app.view.session.AppViewUpdater.sessionStateChanged(AppViewUpdater.java:18)        at com.sap.sdm.app.proc.deployment.impl.SessionStateObserversImpl.notifySessionStateChangedSessionStateObserversImpl.java:46)        at com.sap.sdm.app.proc.deployment.states.InstContext.processEventServerSide(InstContext.java:85)        at com.sap.sdm.app.proc.deployment.states.InstContext.processEvent(InstContext.java:59)        at com.sap.sdm.app.view.controllers.DeployEventProcessor.processEvent(DeployEventProcessor.java:11)        at com.sap.sdm.client_server.deployserver.DeployCmdProcessor.processEvent(DeployCmdProcessor.java:264)        at com.sap.sdm.client_server.deployserver.DeployCmdProcessor.process(DeployCmdProcessor.java:108)        at com.sap.sdm.gui.server.GuiAdminRoleCmdProcessor.processGuiAdminRoleCmdProcessor.java:72)        at com.sap.sdm.is.cs.session.server.SessionCmdProcessor.process(SessionCmdProcessor.java:67)        at com.sap.sdm.is.cs.cmd.server.CmdServer.execCommandCmdServer.java:76)        at com.sap.sdm.client_server.launch.ServerLauncher$ConnectionHandlerImpl.handle(ServerLauncher.java:286)        at com.sap.sdm.is.cs.ncserver.NetCommServer.serveNetCommServer.java:43)        at com.sap.sdm.is.cs.ncwrapper.impl.ServiceWrapper.serveServiceWrapper.java:39)        at com.sap.bc.cts.tp.net.Worker.run(Worker.java:50)       at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:816)"
    The same problem occurs if I try to deploy this package or any other package using SDM in standalone or integrated mode.
    configtool -> Secure Store -> admin/host/<SID> is the virtual hostname of the JC instance.
    I've tried the following to no avail:
    - Changed configtool -> Secure Store -> admin/host/<SID> to be the physical hostname of the box.
    - Changed configtool -> Server -> Dispatcher -> Service -> P4 -> bindhost (from 0.0.0.0 to JC virt IP).
    - Changed the <Host> entry in sdmrepository.sdc from <phys hostname> to <jc virt hostname>.
    The SAPLOCALHOST, SAPGLOBALHOST all seem to be set correctly in the SAP profiles.
    Has anyone had this issue?  If so, what do I need to check/change?  Any ideas?
    Notice the message does not reference the <SID> in "admin/host", could this be related to the issue?  If so, what can cause this?
    TIA
    Anthony

    Hi All,
    Just an update, I was able to get around my problems by patching the 2004s media from sp6 to sp8, uninstalling my scs, and database and re-installing from the patched media.
