User specified formatted Excel File

Hello all,
this forum has been extremely helpful to me earlier...i'm hoping for
the same this time around.
here is my query:
I need to write information to an Excel file in a formatted fashion,
as usual i'm using open book, open sheet, set value with range... i
would like to format the data that i read from the PLC in to the EXCEL
file in a specified manner is there a way to do this...
date on the first row,
columns seperated by colons ":" and then column names and the
respective data below them...
thanks,
cheers,
-U

Try using the format into string function in the string subpalette. This will allow you to enter all of your inputs and build a string to write to file. You can use string constant to create the ":" and you can use a variety of tabs, end of lines, etc. to build the string the way you want. If you have LV 7 you can use the Build Text express vi. This will allow you to format easier with a nice property page. The drawback with using the build text is a limit of 8 inputs. The format into string will allow more than 8. Hope this helps.

  • HTML formate excel files

    Hi,
    I just recognized that the excel files which I can download from my OBI/Answers reports or which I used to send to customers are HTML formated excel files. I also found a remark in the Oracle OBI documentation.
    Now my problem ...those files are much bigger then the ordinary excel files. Opening those files and saving them again as pure excel decreases the size by the factor 10x.
    Unluckily some of those files a bigger then 10MB which is the size limit of mails of our mail server. My question is there a way to create normal, non-html formatted excel files (especially for sending them)?
    Thanks.

    The link is very helpful but unluckily it is no solution (maybe there is no solution). If the excel file is in MHTML format it is much too big ...on the other hand it needs to be Excel 2003. So finally the question is still whether it is possible to get am Excel 2003 file without MHTML?

  • Format excel file when it is downloaded

    How to format excel file when it downloaded from SAP table

    Hi,
    In my opinion this would not be straight forward . Actully there are two possibilities :
    1. Create a dynamic itab with the structure as you desire in your requirement. But is it possible to have a itab where each row has a different structure. ? experts pls comment on this. ( extract & field group concepts are used to acheive the different structures for each line ).
    2. The more possible way i feel is to use the OLE excel concepts. Here we can add data to the excel sheet as wanted by you. Pls check for a beginners article by Rehan Zaidi ( SAP tips ).
    In this case you can keep on adding values to the excel ( may be in a loop over your data table ) . For ex : you can add the title Annual Price Book for Program - B4, then the customer & date data & finally the material data. This needs to be repeated again for the next Sales order.

    Yes the report painter report especially in the hierarchial format will not make much sense when you download to excel. Until now I also have not seen any solution to this.

  • Can't place formatted Excel file into ID?

    Can't place formatted Excel 2010 data base into InDesign CS5 on Mac? Won't place into newest version of ID either. Will place if I unmerge cells first, but I need thousands of the cells to be merged.

    I thought you might want to do that. No, once a PDF you can't edit to your heart's content.
    So, as to the matter of thousands of cells? You may have to look that one up but there is a limit on what you can do with an Excel file and InDesign; there are only so many cells, columns and rows that can be imported and let alone worked on inside InDesign.
    And you want to merge the cells in InDesign? What ever for? If thousands of cells then edit in Excel to your heart's content and output a PDF. InDesign is not designed as a spreadsheet and not the tool you need and will really bog down with thousands of cells to merge. Just do it in Excel.

  • Remove Email Addresses From a Formatted Excel File

    I have an excel file that has some formatting in it that I
    would like to preserve (some cells have background color, etc). I'd
    like to remove a list of email addresses from this file. My first
    thought is to use cffile with action read, use the following in a
    cfloop: replace(emailAddressToDelete,
    excelFileVarCreatedFromCffileRead) and then save it back to excel
    format with cffile using action write. I tried this and the Excel
    file would not open. The error was:
    test.xls cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or
    you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server
    the document is stored on may not be responding.
    I'm guessing something went wrong in the process of reading
    and writing the files contents and it's not as simple as I want to
    make it. Anyone have something to tell me that might help me remove
    email addresses from a formatted Excel spreadsheet?

    Yup, .xls is a proprietary encrypted file format and
    <cffile.... is not
    going to be able to successfully read and modify it's
    content. You can
    copy it or move it, but not modify it with <cffile...>
    If the file format was a plain text such as .txt or .csv you
    could do
    what you are thinking about, but then you would probably not
    have the
    proprietary excel formating in the file.
    I've heard about the POI library that allows some native
    Excel access
    and such, but I am not knowledgeable in its ins and outs.

  • Allow user to import excel file without using wizard ?

    Hi !
    How can i realize an application where the user can import an excel sheet. The user should just choose the file to import and all the other things should happen automatically. The files are allways equal, allways same colums, allways same delimiters and the destination table is allways the same, too.
    With other words : how to build an own import wizard ?
    I know that i can easily upload a csv file to the database. But how can i get access to the uploaded file from sql or pl/sql ? If this would work, i could make simple selects and insert them into the destination.
    Perhaps someone can help me.
    Greetings
    Bernd

    Bernd,
    You're on the right track. For now, you'll have to write your own parsing routine and do your own inserts. If you follow the how to on uploading files, you can then simply take the blob and parse through it in pl/sql.

  • Some users can't open Excel files. It is trying to open it in Internet Explorer "An error has occurred. Please try again."

    I have some users in my company that can't open Excel files from any document libraries on SharePoint 2010. The receive the error message "An error occurred. Please try again."  We don't currently use the Excel calculations services. When
    a user opens an excel file they are prompted to either Read Only or Edit.
    This affects less than 5 people in a large company.  They have the Full Control permissions and have been able to open the files previously.  There has been no changes made to the server either.  I can't find anything that points to this in the
    event viewer.
    It doesn't matter if which computer that they try to open this up from either.   All computers are Windows 7 Professional with IE 9 and Office 2010 x64.
    I can't find anything that points specifically to this exact error. None of the excel files contain pivot tables.    This one has me stumped.

    I would make sure no one has open on machine / locked on machine (Would assume you checked this, but wanted to add)
    Also would have assumed you restarted the machines (:))
    Make sure the file security did not change (check to ensure no one changed the sercuity of the excel)
    Make sure the version of excel is the same (Changing from 2010 back to 2007 affects the file, etc.. on convert) that no one converted and saved thus causing error in file.
    Can they open other excel files?
    It sounds like the excel file it self has changed if you cannot see issue in SharePoint logs.
    If it is all SharePoint excel files - try deleting one persons access and readding them to see if that helps.
    SharePoint has issues ;)

  • User is not able to download specific excel file in sharepoint

    Hi,
    Could you please help?
    thanks
    srabon

    Hi Srabon,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot download the excel file from SharePoint.
    I recommend to check if the Download a Copy buttons can be used in the Excel web app and in the ribbon of the library.
    If both the two buttons cannot work, I recommend to check the permission of the user on the excel file and check if the Information Rights Management is enabled in the library.
    When Information Rights Management is enabled in the library and the user has only read permission on the document, then the file cannot be downloaded.

  • Reading an EXCEL file from Oracle PL/SQL (HP-Unix server)

    Hi,
    I have the following requirement:
    1. Get the EXCEL file from the remote FTP location
    2. Read the EXCEL file and convert it into the CSV file format.
    3. Put the CSV file into another FTP location.
    I need to get all these points done using Oracle PL/SQL procedure.
    I am using the Oracle 9i installed in HP-Unix environment.
    Please help me in getting this done.
    Thanks

    Ok, setting up Excel as an External Database connection....
    1- Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>System DSN and create a data source with appropriate driver. Name it EXCL.
    2- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Tnsnames.ora fie add entry:
    EXCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.0.24)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = EXCL)
    (HS = OK)
    Here SID is the name of data source that you have just created.
    3- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Listener.ora file add:
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = <hs_sid>)
    (ORACLE_HOME = <oracle home>)
    under SID_LIST_LISTENER like:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORA9DB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (SID_NAME = ORA9DB)
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = EXCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\ora9db)
    Dont forget to reload the listener
    c:\> lsnrctl reload
    4- In %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin create init<HS_SID>.ora. For our sid EXCL we create file initexcl.ora.
    In this file set following two parameters:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = excl
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
    5- Now connect to Oracle database and create database link with following command:
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK excl
    2 USING 'excl'
    3 /
    Database link created.
    Now you can perform query against this database like you would for any remote database.
    SQL> SELECT table_name FROM all_tables@excl;
    TABLE_NAME
    DEPT
    EMP
    But you're limited to Windows based servers for this.
    As for converting Excel to CSV and doing it yourself. I hope you know the internal format of MS Excel files cos you're gonna need to know it. It would be far easier if the "user" creating the Excel file could save a copy out in CSV format for you and then it's just a case of FTP'ing the file and using external tables to read the data.

  • Re: Import an Excel file

    Serdar,
    There are three approaches to this problem
    (a) use the excel spreadsheet as an ODBC data source
    (b) read the excel spreadsheet as a tab delimited text file
    (c) use OLE
    (a) this requires defining column headers for each "section" of data in the
    spreasheet, and
    naming each "section" of data. Thus it works for spreadsheets where you
    have tight control
    over the formatting & content, and not for arbitrary spreasheets. There
    are numerous drawbacks
    to this approach, most notably that the ODBC datasource controlled by
    the ODBC Manager
    sets the file name, and not the DBResourceManager (you have to copy your
    spreadsheet into
    a fixed name, hope the other one isn't open in another session, etc etc)
    Blech.
    (b) this requires a manual step which is to read the spreadsheet into Excel
    and save it to a
    different format, or have the spreadsheets saved as comma separated
    values format (csv),
    then it is simply a parsing problem...
    (c) this requires that you sublaunch Excel through OLE and access the data
    somehow
    (issue a "select all", "copy" - then paste the data into some text
    field in Forte and read it,
    or programmatically access the spreadsheets boundaries and individual
    cell data.
    Sounds like this would work best for "arbitrary" spreadsheets for
    which special formatting
    or exporting would be problematic.
    We have had success (using the word loosely here) with a and b and not had
    occasion to do c, though it will probably yield the best flexibility for
    the effort you'll have to
    put into getting it to work. The common perception about doing OLE
    integration is that
    you are at the mercy of the application to which you are integrating - the
    OLE APIs are not
    all universally well designed, implemented, nor documented, however since
    this is Excel you
    might have lots of retail technical books to help you.
    Part of the problem is that the Excel spreadsheet file is in a proprietary
    format only understood
    by Excel, therefore just "reading" the file will give you a whole bunch of
    garbage.
    Good luck,

    Just thinking off the top of my head here, would a variation of (c) work.
    Launch Excel and trigger a macro that outputs the spreadsheet data as a CSV
    file to a known location. Once that completes, it becames a parsing problem
    as stated below. Or, extending this thought, if you have control over the
    spreadsheet, establish a macro to output the data in CSV format. And
    include in the procedure for accessing the spreadsheet a requirement to run
    this macro after every data change. (Maybe the macro initiation can be
    automated too.)
    my 1 1/2 cents worth....

    I can create a query object out of the excel dosument using the cfspreadsheet tag.
    I'm able to use xmlparse to create a xml document object from the xml file.
    What I would like to do is add col_3 from the excel spreadsheet as a new node when col_2 is equal to gpx.wpt.name.xmltext of the xml object.

  • Help with uploading an excel file to a table using an application

    Hello,
    Can anyone please help me out with this issue. I have apex application where in the end users upload an excel file to a table. For this I have followed the solution provided in this link
    http://avdeo.com/2008/05/21/uploading-excel-sheet-using-oracle-application-express-apex/
    Using the above solution, I was able to upload the excel data to a table "sample_tbl1" successfully with fields Id,acct_no,owner_name,process_dt. But the thing is I want accomdate a particular condition while uploading the file data, to check see if the acct_no already exists in another table say "sample_tbl2" or not. If acct_nos already exists in sample_tbl2 then give out an error displaying the list of account numbers that already exists in the database. Orton,
    From your code it appears that the account No comes in the second column of the file = > v_data_array(1)
    So You can put a conditional block around the execute immediate code that inserts the records
    For instance
      SELECT count(1) INTO ln_account_no_exists from <"sample_tbl2> where account_no = v_data_array(1);
      IF (  ln_account_no_exists > 0 ) THEN
         --Account No: already exists
        <Do what you want to do here >
      ELSE
        EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ...
      END IF:
    {code}
    Inorder to handle the account no records which exists you can
      <li>Raise an exception
      <li> Write record to table or insert into collection and then use a report region in the page based on this table/collection to show error records
      <li> Append errored account No:s to the Success Message Variable programmatically(this variable is used by PLSQL process success/error message )
       {code}
        IF ( record exists)
          apex_application.g_print_success_message := apex_application.g_print_success_message||','|| v_data_array(1) ; -- Comma separated list of errored account no:s
        ELSE ...
       {code}
    Hope it helps

  • Read from Excel file in SP2013

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to read data from a formatted Excel file which is located in a document library, and put the contents in a List via code. This functionality should check - if he record exists  update the list item, if not create a new list
    item.
    I have installed the PIA assemblies and have referenced the excel iterop services dll from
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Visual Studio Tools for Office\PIA\Office15\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll
    I am trying to use the excel interop services but getting the below error :
    public void readexcelfromExcelOp()
    using (ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext("http://development002/"))
    List docList = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("MDRDocuments");
    lblstatus.Text = " got the document library ";
    Excel.Application xlApp = new Excel.Application();
    Excel.Workbook xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(@"D:/C.xlsx");
    Excel._Worksheet xlWorksheet = xlWorkbook.Sheets[1];
    Excel.Range xlRange = xlWorksheet.UsedRange;
    int rowCount = xlRange.Rows.Count;
    int colCount = xlRange.Columns.Count;
    for (int i = 1; i <= rowCount; i++)
    for (int j = 1; j <= colCount; j++)
    lblExcel.Text = xlRange.Cells[i, j].Value2.ToString();
     Error 1 at the above highlighted section of the code -  One or more types required to compile a dynamic expression cannot be found. Are you missing a reference?
    Pallavi Sharma http://letsgetalittletechnical.blogspot.com/

    You might want to look at Excel Services and use the .../_vti_bin/ExcelRest.aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee556820.ASPX
    This will allow an ajax call in the browser or web request to return Xml.  To ease access to content within Excel file setup Named Ranges.  http://development002/_vti_bin/ExcelRest.aspx/MDRDocuments/c.xlsx/model/Ranges('MyNamedRange')
    Hope this helps.
    If looking to access Excel server-side use the OpenXML API, but avoid
    accessing the physical hard drive; put the Excel document in SharePoint.
