File weirdness since moving to Vista

Edit - Never mind. Idiot error... I was placing files in the
document directory of another user profile. Still adjusting to the
differences in Vista. *sigh*
Scenario: Work on a file outside of DW, save file to site
local directory on hard drive, or into another unrelated directory,
then try to access that file from within DW and it doesn't show up.
For example, edit a file in PhotoShop and save it. Exit PhotoShop
and get into DW, then try to call up image for insertion into a
page, but file open dialog in DW doesn't show it's there. Windows
Explorer sees it fine. This happens whether I place the image into
the local site directly, or save it elsewhere on the hard drive...
Dreamweaver won't show it. Reverse is also true... if I create a
file within DW and save it, then look at my local site directory in
Windows Explorer, the file isn't there. I CAN drag and drop file(s)
from Windows Explorer into the site directories within DW and
they'll work fine, but it's driving me nuts that I can't see them
otherwise.
This behavior just started when I got a new system with
Vista. With previous XP system I could edit, add, delete files
outside of DW and the site's file list within DW would update
accordingly (or I could open a file dialog and see them in some
other directory). Cache is enabled and I've tried recreating the
site cache manually. I suspect it's some Vista thing, however,
since I had similar behavior in other apps (create a file in
Windows Paint, save it, then I'm unable to locate the file from
within PhotoShop's Open File dialog, for example).
Any clues? At best, this makes it difficult to work. At
worst, it's going to drive me insane!

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

The specs of this iMac are:
iMac 27 inch, late 2009 model with a 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 Gig 1067 Mhz DDR3, using OSX Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I have Mackeeper installed and according to the scans I have run, everything is fine. No virus, no junk files . . . no problems at all . . .
Except that for all practical purposes, my computer isn't working.
I am nearly totally deaf and live in an isolated, rural area of NW Missouri and this computer is what I mainly rely on to contact friends, relatives and business associtates!
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.

To anyone who has viewed this post and is having similar difficulties, the answer came on a different forum: I dragged & dropped the files from Mail to iCloud Drive. Opened them on my MB Air, they were saved in Templates and are now accessible across all my devices.

I'm getting the infamous 'Files Cannot be Moved" error when partitioning

I'm on my Intel iMac, and currently have 186.55 GB of free space on my hard drive. I wanted to make a 32 GB partition for Windows Vista, but I keep getting the error message telling me back up my info and format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (which it already is). I did have VMware Fusion installed, but I deleted it after I found out that it can cause this problem.
At one point, I was actually successful at creating a 15 GB partition, but upon trying to install windows, it told me I needed to have at least 21 GB free for some reason. So I deleted that partition and tried to create a new 32 GB partition. But once again I got the same message from Boot Camp telling me that "Some files couldn't be moved".
I'd rather not have to defrag my HD (unless you can point me towards some defraging software for Mac), and I've tried deleted plenty of huge files that were several gigs in size.
I'm at a loss here, so are there any other solutions out there?

Not a computer expert, but in recently installing Leopard and then boot camp, I've experienced a lot of the common issues discussed on this forum (mail issues for leopard and "files cannot be moved" with boot camp). I followed the idefrag path (paid the $30), created the bootable dvd, ran it (took less than two hours), freed up only a GB or two, but I was able to then partition my drive (15GB for Windows) without an issue and installed windows xp pro without a single issue. It took a bit of time, but I would say it beats reformatting your HD. Whether or not you "should" have to defrag a mac, the reality is that boot camp wouldn't work before I defragged, but worked smoothly afterwards. Definitely worth giving it a shot.

The permissions thing may be a red herring, but if there is a problem with file access rights to the designated media folder iTunes has been known to place files on the desktop instead since it can access this location. The most common cause for such problems is working with a folder on an NTFS drive via a differnt account or on a different computer. In the normal course of events folders created inside user profiles have limited rights for other users.
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Normally the iTunes folder will be created at <User's Music>\iTunes with the media folder inside it. The library files should all appear in the same place so your comment about there not being an iTunes Library.itl file is confusing. Is it just the case that the .itl extension is hidden? The two .xml files makes sense from the above and indicates that the active library is not in <User's Music>\iTunes, but you have a recovered file from when it was.
If, in fact, the situation is that your desktop is acting as the main iTunes folder, and contains the library file, Album Artwork, iTunes Media and (optionally) Previous iTunes Libraries folders, with all other content being inside the iTunes Media folder, then it should be relativly easy to rearrange your into the correct shape and move them to the correct location.
If things are more complex, with something other than a library folder containing a media folder, then reestablishing the normal order is more complicated. The iTunes consolidate function is used to bring copies of files stored outside of the media folder into the media folder. It may sometimes be needed as part of the process of tidying up, however it leaves behind originals. There are circumstances where there isn't room for two complete sets of the media files on the same drive which is why I suggested the script might be useful as it produces the same results for the library without leaving the originals for manual clear up.
I think before you do anything however, we should get a clearer picture of exactly what is where. Could you perhaps take a screenshot of the desktop and post it here? Take a look at this post on making a split library portable. The same techniques I outline there can be used to lick your library into shape, it is just a question of working out which to use in which order for the best effect.

Unfortunately, this "Publish Error" problem is all too common whenever there is a change in your iWeb publishing environment. This can be a result of Apple updating iWeb or MobileMe (as happened a couple of months ago with MobileMe), it can occur when you change ISPs, or it can happen when you upgrade your Mac OS or get a new computer. I'm going through it right now because I migrated (i.e., copied my Domain file) over to my new Mac mini for my iWeb work, and have since been unable to publish to my MobileMe account.
Apple Support provides no guidance as to why this happens or what to do about it. It's clearly a software/communications problem that's related to uploading files from your client (iWeb) to the server (MobileMe). The only advice they've given me when I call them is to completely rebuild the Website, which in my case would mean redoing the several hundred Web pages that are part of my site. Apple's inability to take the issue seriously is a sure sign that they don't consider iWeb/MobileMe a serious Web publishing medium, that it is only intended for small sites, hobby stuff, photo galleries and the like.
The only real solution is to create a new Website in iWeb, and to gradually move your Web pages to the new site and to Publish to MobileMe a few pages at a time. If you encounter a publish error again, you can at least isolate the problematic Web page and, if necessary, redo that page to get it to publish correctly. This solution has always worked for me, though it is very tedious and time-consuming.
It's very frustrating that Apple is unable or unwilling to improve the publishing capability of iWeb/MobileMe, and to make it more robust. It's otherwise a powerful publishing environment.

Finder Weirdness since 10.4.4

So I'm getting some Finder Weirdness since updating to 10.4.4...
1) File sizes are not being updated in the list window, even after a file is completed. For example, when FCP is finished exporting a Quicktime or when Compressor finishes compressing an mpeg-2
which leads into the next bit of weirdness...
2) Mpeg-2 Files ending with the extension .m2v have their "Kind" listed in the Finder as "MPEG-2 File <!DO..." followed by a bunch of weird characters.

When I do a "Get Info" on that file, the Finder locks up (SBBOD) and I get what looks like part of a .plist file under "General:Kind." See what I mean here:

I've deleted the Finder Prefs which had no effect. I am unsure where to go to from there.

Since moving iWeb site my podcast won't publish to iTunes

Ok, I have just recently moved my iWeb site from MobileMe to LCN and they seem to be hosting it fine EXCEPT my podcast is no longer downloadable from iTunes. This is obviously cos it's still pointing to the old MobileMe address so, using iWeb to try and republish the podcast from the new site I get the message "We had difficulty reading this feed. Bad http result code: 404"
It seems to be the case that, since moving my site, I no longer have an rss feed to send to iTunes. I have asked LCN about this and I got this response:
"Unfortunately we are not able to assist with this functionality of the iWeb software - as the publishing to itunes via the iWeb software is not something over which we have any control or any advanced knowledge to be able to advise if this functionality is simply not possible if not publishing to the Mobile-Me service.
I would recommend raising this enquiry directly with Apple support as they should be more able to advise on a resolution to this problem."
Does this mean I have just moved my site to the wrong people and should use a different hosting service or is there something I can do here? Please help, I'm kind of lost here!

Web should create the RSS files automatically - there are links to them on the sites - and they should be at

(two separate podcasts) but there are no files at these addresses. The first thing to do is to check that these checkboxes are enabled in the Inspector:
though I would have thought the fact there are links to the feed would mean that these boxed were checked.
Then you should do a Publish all files from iWeb, using the FTP option in the publish pane. (If you had simply copied the pages over from MobileMe, that could cause problems; you need always to publish from iWeb).
If that doesn't do any good you have some ongoing problem in iWeb and the best place to ask would be in the iWeb Forum.

VI Analyzer "Some VIs and/or tests have been added to or removed from your file system since you last saved this configuration file."

When I run VI analyzer and open our standard config file, the message "Some VIs and/or tests have been added to or removed from your file system since you last saved this configuration file." appears. Upon clicking OK, selecting something to analyze, and moving on to the VI Analyzer - Select Tests dialog, the Tests selection control is completely empty and the Analyze button is greyed out.
I'm runing LabVIEW 2013 on Windows 7, VI analyzer did work before, and I have tried both repairing and uninstalling LabVIEW (then reinstalling) already. If I do not select a config file or try to reset all test configurations, the Tests control remains empty.
Is there any way to reinstate the tests, or fix just the VI Analyzer toolkit?
The only thing that I remember changing since I last ran the analyzer is that I installed DIAdem.

I cannot transfer files from XP to Windows Vista notebook

Hi,
I recently bought laptop with windows vista on it. My other computer has windows xp. I would like to transfer files from wndows xp to vista, when I do I am unable to open this. I also receive e mails that have excel (xls) files attached and I am unable to open them, Can anyone advise? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

How do you exactly mean: transferring files? Would you like to copy them to the machine with Vista?
And regarding the Excel (*.xls) files, you need Microsoft Excel which is in the Microsoft Office Package. That means if you have no Microsoft Office for Vista then you will need to purchase one to open and edit Excel files.

Some Files Cannot Be Moved

I had to kill my old partition because it was only 32 GB, and now I get the error "Your hard drive cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." I've defragged my HD, deleted some large files, and done pretty much everything I can think of to get this working. I downloaded Disk Inventory X to see how fragmented my HD is, but it shows a block of empty space (93 GB, though I have 100 free I assume the rest is scattered). I still get this error no matter what I try. Boot Camp suggests that I back up my entire computer to an external HD, then restore it to my internal HD. 1-That is absurdly risky and I don't think it is a good idea, but I would anyway if 2-I HAD AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Apple sells this software, but when somebody tries to use it they tell them to go out and spend $150 on an external Hard Drive. That is not OK. Does anyone else have any ideas I can try?

I've had this same problem on two macs now.
The first time it happened, I solved it somehow but couldn't recall - I think it may have been fluking a partition size that worked.
That didn't happen second time around so I googled and found many forum tips, some that I tried, to no avail.
These included, defragging the harddrive (which took 6 hours for my 250gb HD!), performing maintenance with Onyx, and one that I didn't try but most people attempt - backing up your HD and reinstalling Macosx.
I tried to partition the drive manually with Disk Utility just for one last hurrah and unlike Boot Camp, it gave me more information as to why this couldn't be done - "error 0".
I googled this and found that it meant the HD was having problems and needed to be repaired (I think it is a filemapping error caused by erasing the partition) - I verified this in Disk Utility so then booted off an external HD and successfully repaired the internal HD. Now Boot Camp Assistant works with any given partition size!

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

Since moving to OS 10.7.3 one of my animations quit working in Safari

Since moving to OS 10.7.3 one of my animations quit working correctly in Safari 5.1.7 (it works correctly in all other browsers on Mac and PC). I restarted the computer to make sure that wasn't a problem. Other animations on the site are working correctly.

It's the "menu item indented on mousover animation." It's not supposed indent only one line of text.
You'll have to view it in another browser to see how it's supposed to work.
Anyone know what could be causing this?

I have created another user and both browsers are perfectly fine and instantly responsive.
My security settings are on WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK).
Any suggestions what in my main user causes the problem?
