  • Huge user trace files being generated under udump

    last few days one of my database is generating huge number of user trace files under udump. I tried to investigate in alert.log file. But as I am not very expert to analyze the alert.log file I could not find the cause behind it. Only the ORA-00600: internal error code is found there. But it is a generic error . Please help.

    Thank you again. I got the clue from your reply.
    The error message is pasted below in short.
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [12333], [0], [0], [0], [], [], [], []
    Current SQL statement for this session:
    BEGIN :1 := TESTDBA.LOCAL_SYSDATE_SFT_FNC( 1,:2,:3 ); END;
    And it is obvious that the function had some problem recently. We need to investigate on that. Now my request is
    Please guide me how to check in metalink with the value '12333' which came as argument of ORA-00600 error. Here my job was easy as I got the problem function name . By I want to know the art of analysing the error message in alert.log file.
    Also tell me which places I should check regularly as a responsibility of a DBA ?
    What are the common errors in Alert log file? Where I should be cautioned ? Where I should ignore. Give me some tips please. Do not restrict your discussion on Alret.log only . Also please cover all important areas. If you think I am taking much of your time then please send me some link or source of PDF etc.

  • Where is the user trace file?

    I have issued the statement below to enable sql trace in session 260 ,and it execute successfully.but i can not find where the trace file in directory $ORACLE_BASE/admin/testcs/udump (testcs is my database name).
    SQL> execute dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(260,34880,true);
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    where is the trace file?
    By the way,how can i find the information about the package DBMS_SYSTEM which is not in ORACLE references?

    Did you issue some queries after turning tracing on? The trace file might not be created until there is some activity in the session.
    I know that DBMS_SYSTEM is documented in the O'Reilly Press book "Oracle Built-in Packages" by Feuerstein, Dye & Beresniewicz.
    However for tracing I think that Oracle expects you to use the dbms_support package:
    execute sys.dbms_support.start_trace_in_session -
      (sid => &sid, serial => &serial, waits => true, binds => true)Or for Oracle 7.3.4 or 8.0 you can use oradebug. Example:
    select pid, spid, username from v$process;
    PID    SPID   USERNAME
    8      25807  oracle
    SVRMGR> oradebug setorapid 8
    -- or -
    SVRMGR> oradebug setospid 25807
    -- turn on
    SVRMGR> oradebug event 10046 trace name context forever, level 12
    -- turn off
    SVRMGR> oradebug event 10046 trace name context off

  • Create a new trace-file

    hello together,
    i have a question according to creation of new user trace files in user_dump_dest:
    with the following command:
    EXEC dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(18,628,TRUE);
    I created a new file in the trace directory.
    Then I stopped the tracing with:
    EXEC dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(18,628,FALSE);
    I disconnected with the traced session sid=18 and connected once again.
    With retracing the session I didn't get a new trace file but the existing trace file was actualized.
    => what do I have to do to achive a new trace file for the second session-tracing?
    Thanks and Regards
    Stefan

    Hello Maran,
    I only want to trace one session; but I want to create a new trace file for the second run when tracing; but at the moment the first trace file will be continued...

  • Trace file and control files !!

    hi,
    I have created trace file of the control files by using 'alter database backup controlfile to trace' command. i have two questions..where can i find this trace file and how can i use this trace file to generate the control files.
    Waiting for the replies...
    Regards,
    Saad Bin Khalid

    1. You can fine the trace in the udump folder ... you can check the file time stamp to check when you created the file as it may be possible that here are other user trace files too
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    Database altered.
    SQL> show parameter USER_DUMP_DEST
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    user_dump_dest string /PROD/udump
    SQL> exit
    $ cd /PROD/udump
    $ mv PROD_ora_30823.trc cr_ctl.sql
    $ vi cr_ctl.sql
    edit the control file script
    Now you have a new control file script to re-create your control file.
    2. You can edit the same and execute at nomount stage to generate new controlfiles ... remember controlfiles should be removed before creating the new ones

  • How can stop the bdump and udump trace files from accumulating?

    The files are growing so until it is filling up the user's c: drive. It's hundreds of files over 20 megs.

    Angela,
    The management of those files is a reposnsibilty of the DBA. ie The files dumped there are from background processes, session traces and your alert log.
    The alert log in bdump should be checked daily and errors investigated. Some errors will result in trace files being dumped. The alert log will always grow during normal operation and you can simply delete it or better yet zip it up and store it somewhere for a period of time.
    You can clean up the udump user traces files by simply deleting them periodically. For other traces you should have a look to see what they are for. Any ORA 600 traces should be investigated.
    If you are not a DBA and this seems to much trouble then you can just delete the files to reclaim the space.

  • Tkprof : 0  user  SQL statement in trace file

    Hello!
    Please explain , what is difference of tkprof-converting of user session trace file and an internal/background process ?
    Get I message "0 user SQL statement in trace file" cause this difference?
    In my target session I issued :
    begin
    sys.dbms_system.set_ev(...., .., 10046, 12, '');
    end;
    begin
    sys.dbms_system.set_ev(..., .., 10053, 1, '');
    end;
    /Thanks and regards,
    Pavel

    Did you try to tkprof a 10053 trace ?
    That is not going to show anything. 10053 traces are meant to be read as they are. tkprof is there to deal with 10046 traces.

  • How to stop the generation of the trace files relate to the particular user

    Dear All,
    Please advice:
    Is it possible to stop the trace file created by a user for a particular job (sql/exp)
    For example :
    Trace files create whenever the user run the sql/exp command from his application server.
    This will created a huge files and caused the file system getting full (not in bdump but it is generation in application user home directory).
    Is there any method to stop the generation of the trace files relate to the particular user base on that job.
    thanks,
    Shanoj

    Dear SHANOJ
    This trigger will created for that specific user by dba or person who have sysdba privs. it will triggered at the login time of that user and alter the sqltrace.
    for example we have write one trigger in our database for every ddl operation in database.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "SYS"."SYS$DDLTRIG" after DDL on database
    declare
    v_machinename VARCHAR2(100);
    v_osuser VARCHAR2(100);
    v_dbuser VARCHAR2(100);
    v_host VARCHAR2(100);
    v_program VARCHAR2(100);
    v_instance VARCHAR2(100);
    v_date VARCHAR2(100);
    begin
    select to_char(sysdate, 'mm-dd-yyyy HH24:MI:SS'),user,sys_context('userenv','OS_
    USER'),sys_context('userenv','HOST'), (select instance_name from v$instance),(se
    lect program from v$session where sid = (select distinct sid from v$mystat)),(se
    lect machine from v$session where sid = (select distinct sid from v$mystat)) int
    o v_date,v_dbuser,v_osuser,v_host,v_instance,v_program,v_machinename from dual;

    ora_sysevent = 'CREATE' or ora_sysevent = 'TRUNCATE' or ora_sysevent = 'ALTER'
    Then
    insert into ddl_log_new(v_date,v_dbuser,v_osuser,v_host,v_instance,v_program,v_m
    achinename,V_EVENT,V_OBJECT_NAME,V_OBJECT_TYPE,V_OBJECT_OWNER) values (v_date,v_

    obj_name,ora_dict_obj_type,ora_dict_obj_owner);
    END IF;

    i hope above example will helpful for u,

  • Trace file event set....need the file for the user...

    hello all,
    i had a question about the trace file, I was asked by one of ur manager to set events for trace file...he asked to do this...
    ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '10046 trace name context forever, level 12';
    alter system set events '1483 trace name errorstack, level 12' ;
    i understand they go to the udump, but my question how am i suppose to know which trace file to look as there are tons of them in udump??? We actually want this for a specific schema that we are lookin for. Could anyone explain what the above are doing and how to get the trace file for it. Thanks

    If you are running this from your session and want to check the file that has been created for your session,from Effective Orcle by design,this may be helpful,
    select rtrim(c.value,'/') || '/' ||d.instance_name ||
    '_ora_' || ltrim(to_char(a.spid)) || '.trc'
    from V$process a,v$session b,v$parameter c,v$instance d
    where a.add=b.paddr
    and b.audsid=sys_context('userenv','sessionid')
    and c.name='user_dump_dest'This would tell you the exact file that would had been created for your session.

  • Unable to generate trace file

    Hi,
    I have written the stored procedure for starting sql trace on a given session for say n number of seconds.
    create or replace procedure start_trace
    v_sid in number,
    v_serial# in number,
    seconds in number)

    v_user varchar2 (32);
    duration number;

    db_name varchar2 (32);
    no_session_found exception;
    stmt varchar2(100);
    stmt1 varchar2(100);

    begin
    select username into v_user
    from v$session
    where sid= v_sid and
    serial# = v_serial#;
    exception
    when NO_DATA_FOUND then
    raise no_session_found;
    end;
    dbms_output.put_line('Tracing Started for User: '|| v_user);
    dbms_output.put_line('Tracing Start Time: '|| TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'MM-DD-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'));
    dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(v_sid,v_serial#,true);
    if seconds is null then
    duration := 60;
    else
    duration := seconds;
    end if;
    dbms_lock.sleep(duration);
    dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(v_sid,v_serial#,false);
    dbms_output.put_line ('Tracing Stop Time: '|| TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'MM-DD-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'));
    select value into dump_dest
    from v$parameter
    where name = 'user_dump_dest';
    dbms_output.put_line('Trace Directory: ' || dump_dest);
    exception
    when no_session_found then
    dbms_output.put_line('No session found for sid and serial# specified');
    END start_trace;
    The above procedure compiles successfully and when I call it from sql prompt it gives me the message that the pl/sql procedure was completed successfully and all put_line statements are displayed.
    Real problem comes when I check udump for the trace file. I can not find it there. It seems all the statements in the procedure are executed successfully except dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(v_sid,v_serial#,true) and dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(v_sid,v_serial#,false) for some strange reasons.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.
    I do not get any error message. The following is the output:
    SQL> exec start_trace(118,6243,30);
    Tracing Started for User: SVCWRK
    Tracing Start Time: 09-26-2011 16:28:29
    Tracing Stop Time: 09-26-2011 16:28:59
    Trace Directory: /orasoft/app/oracle/admin/testsvcb/udump
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    But the trace file is not generated.
    I am using Oracle 10.2.0.4.0.
    Will try using DBMS_MONITOR.
    Thanks again.
